He was very comforting saying our room will be ready and waiting for our arrival. He gave us the room's number, so we could focus only on getting to our destination and not worry about anything else. After arriving I was deeply touched. Our room was not only ready for us, but with warm lights, a quiet TV on, and a slowly spinning ceiling fan. We felt extremely invited. The atmosphere was homey and cozy. After many hours on the road it was exactly what we needed and even more. Our accommodations were clean and pretty. Even the shower had a new curtain for us. Breakfast was basic, but I don't have bagels often and it was like a treat, toasted with butter and cream cheese, yum! There was more stuff to eat but I remember the delicious bagels the most and hard boil eggs of which I'm a big fan. I met the owner and shared my appreciation for his hospitality. He has a dog. The dog looked like a statue at first, but he was just chilling and it was easy to take picture of him. This unusual looking fellow was seated perfectly still for my photo and got little bit excited around my breakfast, but so was I, so it was totally understandable. After that I knew he was alright. The breakfast area was a great spot for having a morning meal or coffee during the day or just relaxing reading paper etc. Our room wasn't with 'a view' like I expected, but honestly I didn't know what to expect. The biggest window was in the front, a typical motel style setting. During the day, being located closer to the road could be little bit annoying because of the traffic noise. As a side note, if you are looking for a place to stay that's close to a lot of food options or shops. This is not it. Most places close early or are not open every day of the week. We've never had a hotel text us before so it was very nice knowing how helpful they are with their customers. They truly care about their business. The room was exceptionally clean and the beds were cozy. Though the inn itself is small (with about 10 rooms total), it felt safe and secure. Our room (7) had a fridge and microwave in it, two extra blankets, a fan, space heater, AC, shampoo, conditioner, and there was a little goody bag for us. I love that they have breakfast in bags set out in the fridge for everyone. Our bags had an apple, hard boiled egg, yogurt, granola bar, and apple juice. There is a ton of grass area for dogs IF you get a pets-allowed room. If you come in and don't tell them you have a pet, they will charge you $50 so it's best to be honest. I put four stars instead of 5 because there are some strict rules here. Let's aren't allowed on the beds and they will charge you for dog hair on the sheets. You also have to crate your dog if you leave them in the room (because if your dog is crying and they can't get a hold of you, they will go into your room). Pet owners clearly have made the rules like this for a reason. There are also major quiet rules and they ask that you don't shut your car doors and hotel doors loudly. They also have a wash cloth set out for makeup use only and will charge you $40 if you ruin the other towels. So it felt like walking on eggshells sometimes with all of these rules. However, it is owned by a husband and wife and they want to make sure everything stays nice. Overall, we did enjoy our stay and there's a nice river running through behind the inn. There's also a garden and a large fire pit with plenty of seating. On top of that, there's a game room with a pool table, fooseball table, board games, and more (outside of rooms 7 and 8). This is a very cute inn and as long as you follow the rules, you're all set for a nice vacation in the mountains!

My husband had the honors of picking our accommodations for our first solo trip without our son…read moresince he was born & he did a great job picking the Roostercomb suite at the Roostercomb Inn! Keane Valley is about 30 mins south of Lake Placid and only an hour from Plattsburgh. It's an incredibly beautiful area with plenty of hiking, waterfalls, peaks, rivers, and crystal clear lakes. The Roostercomb Inn is the perfect location because most of the trailheads we went to we're 5-15 minutes away by car. It's right off the main road in town, next to Black Mountain Coffee, and down the street for a little market named Valley Grocery. The Inn is mostly hostel style with 6 bedrooms varying from queen size bed, to twins, to even bunk beds with communal bathrooms. There's 2 bathrooms with showers/tub, and 2 bathrooms with just toilets. The suite we rented had it's own private bath, which to us was worth the extra money. The inn has a fully stocked kitchen so you can cook all 3 meals a day if you want, though I would recommend eating at least one meal at Forty Six restaurant down the street! There's two dining tables inside, and an outside table on the back patio which also has a grill, lounge chair, place to hang wet clothes, and a gorgeous view of the mountains. There's a fire pit out back, and the garden around the inn has beautiful flowers. The bottom floor of the front of the inn has a real fire place, some super comfy chairs for lounging, and another small kitchen with dining table in case there's the need. The rest of the downstairs are living quarters for the tenants. This building is from the 1800s, and although the hallways are a little crooked, there's so much character to this place! Most of the furniture is hand made wood and there's a lot of unique touches throughout. I will say that the bed definitely wasn't queen size and that the mattress needs to be replaced. Most guests probably sleep quickly and leave early, but we were really wanting to enjoy our time without our son and sleeping in was one of the goals! Noise levels weren't really a problem from inside, but there is a church across the street that chimes every hour and you can hear road noise. I also need to add that the windows need some curtains, because they don't block the sun and at night they are very lit up from the street lights. These are just a few touches that would've changed our stay from a 4 to a 5 star. I would say that being a suite they might want to add some more upgrades for couples who might be celebrating their wedding or anniversary. However, we would definitely stay here again! The little details in the room like the blow dryer, soaps, kitchenette that had both a coffee machine and hot water kettle were so thoughtful! They provided coffee beans and grinder for fresh coffee. They also had a tin with different teas. They provided all the cups, dishes, and silverware you would need so you could stay in your room. There's a small refrigerator and microwave as well. The closet had a cot bed that could be used for children, as well as additional pillows and blankets. There was a dresser for storing clothes, and a small electric fireplace. Magdalena is one of the owners and she was quite charming. She gave us recommendations of hikes in the area, and was very accommodating when asked for help. She gave me some of her chamomile tea when I didn't see any in our room or the shared kitchen, and she allowed us to come back and shower on our last day after we had checked out. We were hiking and swimming, and taking a flight later that night, so it was really nice for her to let us come back, especially since it ended up pouring rain in the afternoon! This place is quaint and lovely and has all the things you need for a wonderful vacation in the North Country of New York! The location is the perfect mix of small town amenities & close proximity to the nature trails! Check out my pictures as I've included some of the trails that were just a short drive from the Inn. All throughout you will notice the historic feel from the architectural details. Room and bedding- luxurious linens made for a very restful slumber. The bath products are by lockwood, a very high end soap, shampoo and lotion that leave you feeling refreshed. Fitness center- spacious with nice equipment. This includes a rowjng machine, multiple high end treadmills and a fully functioning cable tower. Campfire restaurant - we had breakfast included so had a limited menu but the food was very nice. All three items - yogurt parfait, pancakes and the egg dish were delicious and we always felt like we got our moneys worth. Staff - helpful, friendly, welcoming. They advised thoughtfully on dining options and local attractions. great hall - the hotel's "Great Hall" is an expansive bar and lounge that is really nice. The massive leather sofas, high ceilings, and wood throughout makes you feel like you've been sent back in time as royalty. Bonus -a wooden shuffleboard set and piano. Lastly they have several information boards near the fitness center that tell you about the rich history of the area and the hotel including its haunted past! Spooky yet fun! She was charming, knowledgeable, and genuinely excited to share what to do and where to go. My fiancée and I ended up chatting with her almost every day we saw her, not because we needed help, but because she consistently pointed us to the best experiences and shared her own local insights. Absolute gem of an employee. Sam, her coworker, was also lovely and welcoming. We also spent several nights hanging out at The Camp Fire, which quickly became one of our favorite spots. We were lucky enough to meet Tyler, who provided fantastic table-side service -- attentive, friendly, and on point every time. And then there's Danny... we first met her at the 2nd floor bar and later again at The Camp Fire. She was warm, engaging, and made us feel instantly at home. We swapped stories, laughed, and she even gave us great recommendations for our next visit (yes, we're absolutely coming back).
