After we decided we would not be staying at the Hotel Saranac (after staying there for several years), we really wanted to find a local place that was very low-pressure and friendly. Amanda's seriously fit the bill. It is more affordable than most of the other properties in town, and the owners are super friendly and a lot of fun to talk to. They even set out coffee in the small lobby every morning. Can't say enough good things about these folks. Keep in mind, this isn't the Ritz - It's an old-school 1960s style roadside motel, and guests should be aware of that. We find that sort of thing charming, and even though it is an older property, it is absolutely spotless and well kept. If we ever need a local place again, this is where we will be staying.

If you are looking for an affordable and convenient motel with friendly hosts, Amanda's is the place to stay! There are plenty of botique hotels and B&Bs in the area, but you won't get as much bang for your buck anywhere else. I highly recommend a stay at Amanda's Village Motel to anyone who is planning on visiting the lovely town of Saranac Lake.

I also booked weeks prior for 10 days and something came up so I asked to switch dates to 2 days earlier- was told they could not do that, although they were not fully booked. Then, because of the lack of even trying to accommodate, I attempted to cancel but they refused a refund and said there would be an additional charge if I cancelled. It was obvious since this is a self-check in, self-serve motel that this is just an investment property as the owner and manager who are not onsite showed zero interest in making anything right, nor was there a willingness to be flexible- far from hospitable. Zero stars for customer service. I did keep my reservation but would not choose to stay here again. To be fair, the rooms were clean and nicely renovated, as well as the grounds, and self-serve area. That is the only positive experience but unfortunately, because of their horrible customer service, they lost repeat customers.

I was excited because it is one of the few desserts Incan eat. I just don't eat the crust. When it came, my husband's was the usual cheesecake but mine was special. However, you can hear people in the kitchen/dining room as if they were in bed with you so dont expect to get any sleep after a long days hike. The kitchen doesnt open until 8am, which is a bit on the late side for getting an early start hiking. In addition, the most you get here is bread and cereal. I have been to many B&B's with continental breakfast and they at least offer a hot vat of oatmeal, especially for your hikers who need the heartiness. The kitchen also completely closes at some point. I couldn't even boil water to make my own oatmeal before we headed out. I will say that the bread that was made and coffee were delicious. I just expected a little more especially because I have stayed at other B&B's in the area. The bed was lumpy and sagging....not what you want to rest a sore tired body on. The bedroom was clean and the shower provided great hot water pressure. It is walking distance to the town which is great and a short drive to the main trail heads. Location is good.

The second story new construction has doors that don't close properly, and be prepared for a lot of ants. It's a shame, we travel to the area 3 times a month (about 10 days) customer care means a lot to me. I can only imagine the other White Rainbow lodging is the same. If you remember the warm and friendly days of Keith's management, these days are gone.

The breakfast was great and a staff named Barb was very accommodating, asking us several times whether we'd like a burrito, eggs or anything else. There was also a games room where we were able to hang out at night and play foosball, ping pong and play pool (not to mention there was also a badminton/volleyball court in the back. Best of all, we got to use the fire pit and sit there for a few hours with access to logs and a hose to douse the fire at the end of the night. Overall 5 star for me! Thanks guys!
