It's a tidy, smallish, clean room with a very comfortable bed and en suite bathroom that features a stand in shower. The decor in the room is nicely quirky and the room is in the front of the building, facing the town park, lake, and the main road through town. A window mounted air conditioner provides capable, quiet cooling. There was a bit of noise one morning as a group of motorcycles passed by but it was a minor issue. The lobby of the Inn is on the side of the building - there is an obvious sign. Check-in was handled by a gentleman named Anthony. Keys (real keys) were provided for the room and for the lobby door as the lobby was locked after hours. Anthony walked through the policies, toured the public areas of the hotel, and then a tour of the room. All of the rooms are upstairs - I don't recall seeing an elevator and the stairs are a bit narrow. There's a coffee maker in the hall for free coffee and snacks and cold beverages that are $1 each on the honor system. The Inn offers a buffet breakfast for $20. I didn't partake in the breakfast due to my dietary preferences but my traveling companions mentioned that it was a standard and satisfactory offering - eggs, bacon, sausage, pastries, cereal, tea, and coffee. The public areas are on the main level. There's a comfy, well stocked library, an interesting collection of art, a gift shop, and some outside seating. The Inn sits across the street from a town park that sits on the lake. It has a pavilion and some seating scattered about. The free Wi-Fi was always available and seemed adequate. Parking is available on the street for free. The Westport Marina is just down the hill from the Inn and includes The Galley Restaurant and Bar along with a gift shop and full service docking facilities. JAMBS on Main is a block away. It's a deli and offers a variety of fresh morning coffees along with fresh, warm pastries. I do recommend the Inn and would stay there again if my travels took me to Westport.

Everything is made to order so it does take a little longer than some restaurants but to be expected at a nicer place like this. The vibe in here is super cute, it's a little inn and is very clean and well taken care of. We had the spring rolls as an appetizer and they were great. We split the chicken francaise for dinner and it was perfect. They even split it for us in the kitchen which was very nice. Will definitely be coming back here more often! Such a cute hidden gem in Essex.

Before you enter the dining room, be sure to visit the sitting room. The Inn has a pleasant, historic vibe and elegant charm with portraits of Lila Vanderbilt Webb in the sitting room. I replied to Basin Harbor's post-stay survey but have had no response. I normally give rave reviews to places we've stayed around the world; BUT, our unit at $330+ per night after taxes was horrible. We stayed, in basically an upstairs attic space with no refrigerator, no coffee maker (they were in the hall outside the room to be shared and the coffee maker didn't even work!) There was no TV which was ok in a rustic place but not even 2 seats to sit for us both in the unit. The attic ceilings were so low, I continually hit my head and literally had to kneel(!) to see my reflection in the bathroom mirror to shave our comb my hair. I have pictures if you don't believe it. The shortage of convenient electical outlets in this attic space that really should only be rented to a single person who doesn't mind all of these inconveniences and at a much lower rate. Truly overpriced for this unit. We were there for a wedding and my wife could not see her reflection either in the tiny mirror to prepare. We did not complain since this was a celebratory event and we were sure to tip all of the wonderful staff; BUT feel like we really got mistreated even though we booked with very ample time for this event. If you go to Basin Harbor, do NOT accept accommodations listed as Penfield Place, particularly the 2nd Floor which we had no warning of. Had a wonderful weekend for this event but the absolute worst accommodations.

I had to go out two times to tell Sam we had ran out of coffee and omelettes. Again just like Megan was with an attitude. We had just stayed at Niagara Falls and they had superb customer service. Oddly enough there are tip QR codes everywhere you look. Well if they deserved it ---of course. Tip even at the check in desk. 5-Rooms 1- Customer Service Please train your staff to be more hospitable.
