Got a call from a staff member as we were driving to the hotel who wanted to make sure we understood the check in process and who told us about some good restaurants in town. I want to come back in summer. Love it!

If you are banished to the closet-size rear rooms, you might want to re-think your accommodation choice. Yes, the back tiny rooms might be a step up from wilderness camping, but still. I thought I was getting a nice modest room in a lovely inn for an overnight before attending an early a.m. meeting the next day also in Peru. What I did not bank on was a closet-size room that was overheated, barely enough room to walk around the bed, and struggling for over half an hour to get the wifi connected since there was no writing table or chair to do something other than lie in bed, so I thought at least I could watch a new episode of Goliath. No luck with the internet. There's a text number you can call (text) for help, who told me that the rooms in the back don't really have internet connectivity -- despite representations online and in fact even in the room. Joke's on me! Eventually the unnamed texter allowed me to move to a front of the Lake room for the internet. Much of the experience had me mentally comparing it to wilderness camping, as in: well there's running water, which is better than . . . camping outdoors. And it was clean and didn't have me wondering about the person who stayed before. So there's that. But someone in management should sleep in the rooms and see all that is lacking to be comfortable for overnight guests. Here's what they might think about providing in the room for the comfort of future guests: A trash can. A water glass. A shelf in the bathroom for toiletries and the like. Bedside tables with outlets. A box of tissues in the bathroom. Oh and the drains for the sink and shower were SLOW. The shower that is the smallest I have ever experienced is a challenge. There is no way to get out of the way as the water temperature fluctuates greatly from scorching hot to cold. And just try to turn on the water in the shower without it spraying over the bathroom floor! Quite a challenge in the a.m! One hand towel, that's all you get. Fortunately lots of large towels, which are handy to mop up shower water sprayed out to the floor. Oddly the "kitchen" is in the hallway right outside one or two of the rooms (including mine, unfortunately) because if people decide to set up camp over the coffeemaker, you're gonna wake up then because the walls are thin. Same for your next door neighbor's bathroom, which is really your closet. This despite the texter's insistence that the reason the wifi does not work in the back is because of the age of the building and the super-thick walls. Hah! Not in the hallways. But . . . the magnificent view of Lake Champlain in the morning! Almost makes up for the near-camping, rustic, non-luxurious accommodations. But that view does not come cheap. That is if you reserve and pay for the high priced rooms rather than go through the agony of trying to hook up wifi in vain and then complaining and the anonymous person lets you change rooms, which is a route I do not recommend. The downstairs/lobby level is oddly sparsely furnished. They could set the coffee up there since there's a lot of unused space. But I imagine that's the conference center part. Good luck!

The king room upstairs is better than home. The bed is comfy, the recliner was great, the bathroom was large and spotless. The room comes with its own large balcony right on the bay. We arrived by boat and the owner was great enough to drive us to a local restaurant and then come and pick us up. When we got back to the B&B, Jeanne had made us dessert! Strawberry shortcake. Breakfast the next day was incredible. All home made breads and coffee cake! All the eggs, pancakes, waffles, bacon, ham and home fries you could eat! We knew then we would be back. Since that first visit, we have been back here 6 other times and make sure to stay longer each time. Our last long visit was for 17 days. It was so wonderful, we never wanted to leave. Going to Heron's Way is just like going home to visit with family. Jeanne is incredible! Her family knows us well and they are all family. Our last visit was to spend our 10 year anniversary there. When we started thinking about where to go to celebrate, the choice was obvious. Heron's Way B&B, just like going home. If you are ever visiting Lake Champlain, Burlington VT or Plattsburgh NY area, you must make this one of your stops.

The proprietor, Jeanne, is very welcoming and accommodating and is also very knowledgeable about local wildlife, the lake, restaurants in the area, biking in the area, etc. Our room was upstairs and it was very clean. It was also very large, with a very comfortable king bed, sofa, several comfortable upholstered chairs, large screen TV, large bathroom with double sinks, view of the lake from the windows, and a private balcony overlooking the lake. I think it also had the complete works of Stephen King in a bookcase, if you are a fan of his. Jeanne likes to cook, and the breakfasts are just over the top. Every morning we were served about 3 selections of fresh fruit plus applesauce that Jeanne makes herself plus oatmeal (I am not usually a big fan of oatmeal, but she cooks hers for hours, and it's REALLY good) plus something she bakes fresh (muffins, coffee bread, etc), along with coffee, tea, juice. Then, she brings out the rest of the breakfast, which could be eggs and sausage, french toast, or frittata, etc. Then we would waddle to our bicycles. Jeanne is flexible about when she serves you breakfast. If you eat a bit later, you'll get to meet the neighbors, who are very pleasant. In addition to the balcony outside our room, there is a deck and screened porch outside, and there is a dock and a small beach on the lake, so you can swim in warm weather. She also has a couple of kayaks that you can use. We kept our bicycles in her garage downstairs. I was sorry to leave. Definitely going back.
