I lived in a 2 bed, 2 bath on the third floor, and one of my favorite things was how spacious and updated the actual apartment was. The unit had newer flooring, appliances, and finishes, which mattered more to me than having a ton of fancy amenities. A lot of the more popular apartment complexes around UTC may have bigger gyms or more amenities, but the actual units aren't always as updated or spacious.
The bedroom setup was also really good for roommates. I had the primary bedroom and my roommate had the other room, but the rooms and closets were actually pretty similar in size. There was only about a 13% difference between what we paid, which made splitting rent much easier. As a student living with a roommate, that was a huge plus.
I also thought I would hate having the washer and dryer on the balcony, but I actually ended up liking it. Even during winter it wasn't really an issue, and it was nice not having to hear the machines running inside the apartment all the time. Our 2 bed, 2 bath also came with one parking spot in the garage.
Location-wise, this is a really convenient place for UCSD students. UTC is close, there are nearby bus stops, and there's a large park nearby. There is also a business lounge where I would see a lot of students studying, especially during finals. The gym is pretty small, and I personally had a membership somewhere else, but it was clean and maintained well. The pools and hot tub were probably my favorite amenities.
I did have an issue with a bathroom leak toward the beginning of my lease, and I couldn't use my bathroom for a few days. However, management reimbursed me for the inconvenience, which I really appreciated. I also lived on the third floor and personally never had an issue with smells. I did notice the first floor sometimes had a slight smell, but nothing horrible.
I also have to mention Bryce and Aaron because they were a huge part of why I had such a positive experience here. Bryce was my leasing agent when I moved in, and he was genuinely one of the best leasing agents I've dealt with. He was basically the backbone of the leasing office while I was there. He was helpful, easy to talk to, and made the whole moving and leasing process so much easier. Aaron, who was in maintenance/maintenance management at the time, was also amazing. They have both since left, and I genuinely miss seeing them around. They made a huge difference in the experience of living here, and I hope the current team is able to continue the level of service they provided.
Overall, I'm really glad I chose to live here. I think a lot of UCSD students overlook this place because it isn't one of the big-name apartment complexes everyone immediately searches for, but I would definitely recommend checking it out. Obviously pricing changes depending on the market and when you're looking, but I personally got a really good deal for the amount of space and quality of the apartment.
I cared much more about having a spacious, comfortable, updated home than having extravagant amenities, and this place gave me exactly that. I honestly miss living here, and if the circumstances were right, I would move back. I would recommend it to both students and families.
