There was an incident where the maintenance guys blocked our car and we contacted Maria about it.

They are postponing rentals for an indeterminate amount of time, I didn't feel like I got true or honest information about that. Josie kept referring to her boss, "the lawyer," as the reason they were not accepting move ins. I want to say I have spoken to her a few times over a month or so of apartment searching. Here's my takeaway: if they are always going to drop the "boss is a lawyer" bit, how awful is this place going to be to live? It seems ominous already and I don't even live there. I could lawyer up too (I have needed to before). But why would you want to put that energy out there. If a "lawyer" is taking actual months to draw up such an advantageous lease for them, where will that leave us? Up shit creek, that's where. I literally never have seen an apartment put move ins on hold to write up a more self serving lease. Josie seemed nice, but I felt put off ultimately by the constant "my boss is a lawyer," name dropping. I was told, no bankruptcies, period. Everyone says that. I had a hard time physically and lost a business. Hence, the bankruptcy, several years ago. My credit is solid now, really good. Most NORMAL people can figure that out. Then Josie says, "for 7 years or more." They clearly do not have a clue on what they are doing. After 7 years, you actually can file ANOTHER bankruptcy. Not that I'm planning on it, but that's what the 7 years mark is. I was really shocked that she didn't know the basics of that. My credit is good enough to obtain a mortgage at this point (I have spoken to a lender), but not rent at the Mellmanor. Maybe it's a nice place, I will never know. Good luck to you, fellow apartment hunters.

I had an upstairs neighbor who would run constantly, and although I reached out to management multiple times, there wasn't much they could do about the noise. I also had a garage, and my electric scooter was stolen from inside it. I was extremely upset and contacted the office to ask about security cameras, but unfortunately there are none covering the garages. At one point, a resident was using the touch-down study room as a massage room for outside clients, which was surprising. There were also photos shared with residents showing people using the amenities who didn't live in the community, asking us to report them if we saw them. On the positive side, the team is very helpful and friendly overall -- especially Alex . My first year here was really peaceful because the complex wasn't too busy, and I loved it. But more recently, it felt overcrowded and not as comfortable as before.

After a year living there it never went away. I stayed in apartment 8 facing the freeway, at night the walkway lights never worked so you could not see our building which made it feel unsafe especially in the evening for my wife walking alone. Its easy for anyone to hide in the bush and mug her. Once in the early morning I heard people rummaging into the apartments below me and then hurried off into a car. I reported it to management suggesting fixing the lights, they said they would and never did. My biggest gripe is how the management handles your move out. Dont expect to get your deposit, and in fact expect to pay on top of it. I took care of the apartment very well. Never wore shoes in the house, and had very little guests over in my year there. It was just me, my wife, and newborn son. Before moving out We cleaned the property thoroughly, vacuumed, and steamed the floor. We never mounted anything, or even touched the walls. First we agreed on a date and time for my final move out (afternoon slot) and an hour before it the property manager conveniently emails to cancel instead of calling. I show up, shes present and says they did the walk through in the morning without giving me a notice. I get my final statement, and they charged me for paint ($90.00), carpet repair, and cleaning. On top of my deposit that they took I had to pay extra. Again, we were clean and simple residents. What they charged me would be for anything outside normal wear and tear, but even at that there was nothing damaged, or needing to be replaced that we caused. They sent pictures of the wall with a little paint scuff smaller than a penny, and charged $90 to repair that. So it looks like they do this to every resident moving out, but dont actually do the work, because if they did especially the paint then I wouldnt have to pay anything because we didnt damage any walls. They basically pass all the fees that come with preparing for the next resident onto previous residents which isnt right especially if you didnt do anything to damage the property. I hope this helps anyone considering moving here. This is the first time Ive dealt with property managers like this. Your deposit should come back to you if you've respected the property.

I believe ownership & management are only interested in lining their own pockets to take days off at Petco Park. At one point, the barbecue grill actually had mold in it. The only thing you can really count on is The Cove La Mesa increasing the rent 10% annually. One bedrooms are about $2600 and two bedrooms go for about $3000 minimum. I would not recommend this apartment complex to anybody who's trying to save money in San Diego.

It's sad they get a bad rep. I recently moved out. I got a call saying I owe more money. My utility bill was more than double. I was completely moved out August 1. How my bill doubled is beyond me. The staff claimed they took the payment for utilities out of my security deposit and I still have a remaining balance of 56.58 for repairs. My utility accounts should not be paid for from the security deposit. I've been paying my utility accounts on auto debit. Any repairs needed should have come from the security deposit. HG Fenton is horrible! I will never live at another HG Fenton community. The 2 statements the office likes to make here: "This is how we do it here" in reference to their general operations when it's convenient for them. When you request significant repairs: "We don't normally do this but we'll try to make an exception". This is a terrible way to operate. I would be embarrassed if I was the leasing staff here. So many residents complain and are itching to move. So many residents complain of the exhaust problems as well. Do not move here! As bad as it is you can't really blame the leasing staff either. These are all HG Fenton policies. They're just following the rules of head quarters. Conservice the company used for utilities is not answering. I've tried to pay my bill directly through them. Their automated answering service is a hotline for medical devices making the company seem fraudulent. It seems Portofino cancelled my account with Con service as a means to double charge me to keep more of my deposit! They can keep the deposit I won't pay anymore fees.

First of all they were built sometime back so even though these pricey pricey condo type apartments for even more money than here which isn't too bad here Shasta Lane apartments have living rooms that are large and spacious connected to a dining room and a kitchen then there's a hallway and then a bathroom on one side the bedroom on one side and wow walk inclosets! I say this because this feels like a home it is not compacted at all I believe it was built in the seventies but it might have even been the 50s and they just read you the parking lot as well as the roofs so everything is wonderful and they are remodeled in different ways at different times so everybody has some special kind of thing about their apartment that makes it special to them we talk amongst each other and it's a friendly place. But more than that it's been the people that work here that make it real community for me. When I left to go to a funeral in Denver where I am from, the resident relations manager who is in my building and we keep a quiet building said Shasta Lane is a family we will welcome you back. That touched me because I haven't made a lot of friends yet in california! I also want to mention somebody else, somebody very special at fixing anything you can think of someone that any business would want if they didn't need a lot of trouble and other experts and just wanted one man that could do it all and sometime with an assistant his name is Brandon Fronhoefer, the senior service manager. I never have to worry about things costing here even though renters insurance is required because the place really doesn't need a lot of repair in all of these apartments are sturdily built and not only that, the senior business manager Lorraine Seward seems to really have work with some people that took advantage of the covid no pay rent because they did not read the law and suddenly were left with oh my goodness I have to pay it all at once all back. They did not read the statute, and that is unfortunate. For some time the rain worked with these people, I noticed that people were allowed to stay for some time past the time they could repay it so that seems to have come to an end it is understandable and that is why the rent has gone up all over town. I have bad credit but I always pay my rent first. I also want to say that the staff has been especially patient with me because I have a mental illness combined with a head injury, I appear normal speak normal and do a lot of things just like everyone else, but the staff is aware of my condition and they are so sensitive it it is unbelievable! I highly recommend moving here is a wonderful place don't worry about the price I couldn't find anything cheaper in Chu la Vista you'll do well here you'll enjoy it it even has a hot tub and heated floors in my bedroom and living room amazing amazing view out of the patio facing west and a palm tree for my Colorado fun time I love San Diego and this has been a wonderful experience thank you Shasta Lane apartments. Thank you to everyone that works here, and thank you Kantis Tindall for being the friendly neighbor that you are. All of the property folks live right with us as neighbors fun people enjoyable and often busy but cool to conversate with.
