My husband and I lived at the ridge for over three years. When we first came to La Mesa, we were looking for a gated apartment complex that was affordable, and this was by far the best option. Mike was easy to work with when getting our lease signed. What made the ridge absolutely like home and desirable was definitely the maintenance man, Trace. He definitely puts love into the work he does to provide a community. He consistently keeps the apartments clean and on top of all requests and repairs needed. We did not experience any major issues in the apartment. Very quiet and small unlike normal complexes which made it nice. Shaded parking and the large plants up front and the hill in the back provided privacy. We lived in both upstairs and downstairs apartments. I would not recommend this for anybody who is handicap or unable to go upstairs because they are steep. Laundry is not 24/7 and only has 4 machines which got taken up often. Otherwise we loved living here and would definitely recommend the ridge. They have been progressively making upgrades as well. read more

I love our complex! we've lived here for 3 years and the units are up to date and beautiful inside and out. We live in a one bedroom and the space is perfect! The amount of stairs keep me in shape too :D Any maintenance requests I submit are addressed same day or the next and they constantly keep units up to date. When I requested some trees to be trimmed for my car parked underneath, they heard me out and had a landscaper there within a couple weeks! I've had absolutely no issues or qualms living here and will continue so long as possible. The apartment itself was pretty good, but management and maintenance people were awesome! The location on a busy street - it was a little dangerous sometimes turning left onto Jackson - and without a lot of green space up front near the parking lot was just ok. The positives were that it's close to Grossmont Mall and Costco. The landscaping on the inside was better. The maintenance guy, Trace, really tried to add color and greenery and keep the place neat. He's friendly and helpful, so if there's ever a problem he takes care of it quickly. There's a little bit of grass for dogs, although with the number of them in the building, it was hard to keep it green. The apartment itself was ok. I left before the upgrades, so I'm sure other units were nicer. I didn't like the bathroom set up. Having two doors to the shower area was a little awkward. The living room space was also weird, with the dining area farther away from the kitchen than the living room area. The kitchen was small, but nicely functional, and I cook a lot, so that was helpful. Only having one AC way back in the bedroom was a pain - the kitchen was painfully hot in late summer. The manager was very responsive and fair. He was available by email and phone whenever the office was closed, and I was happy that when I left I got most of my deposit back (minus the ending trash/water, etc.). read more

I recently was a tenant at The Ridge on Jackson and enjoyed the small community environment and peaceful neighborhood. The property manager Mike and staff were always attentive, alerting residents whenever any maintenance would take place. The property maintenance team was one of the best I've seen, especially Trace. This apartment complex sucks. I signed a lease and my apartment wasn't being done renovated by the time my contract started and I moved from a different state. They continued to work on it even after I moved in. They could care less about me having no place to live (I moved here not knowing anyone in the state) It was a total mess moving in all they did was wipe the floors. There was wood and dust everywhere! Now I'm breaking my lease because this place is way to expensive especially for la Mesa. $1200 for bullshit find a better place somewhere else. My husband and I have lived here since August of 2015. When we first moved in, it was under a different management company. At that time, the woman who helped us sign our lease didn't mention they were selling the property, and two weeks later, it was under a different property management company. However, it wasn't entirely a bad thing. Initially, the new property manager was barely in the office at all. She would constantly post signs that she was out of the office due to family emergencies. I was lucky if I saw her talking to the maintenance guy, that way I could catch her if I needed anything. But she was only here about 8 or 9 months. Our current property manager, Michael, has much MUCH better hours and availability than the previous property managers. He actually extended the hours that were originally listed by previous managers. He is always available to take care of anything that needs to be done, and is pretty good about responding to calls and emails. We recently had a mold problem due to the recent rains and high humidity in our apartment; I walked to the office and told Michael and it was taken care of the same day (within 10 minutes of me asking). To add to this, Trace is an awesome maintenance man. When my husband and I went on our honeymoon, we came back to backed up drains due to lack of use. I walked outside and told Trace and he immediately stopped what he was doing and came up to our apartment to clear them. We haven't had a problem since. There is a community laundry room, and even though I hate having to share washers and dryers, the availability of washers and dryers isn't an issue. Very, very rarely do I have to wait to do my laundry (basically if you wait until Sunday afternoon, you'll have to wait like an hour tops). The pool is well maintained and the BBQ grills are regularly maintained. I thoroughly enjoy living here and have zero complaints with the current management and maintenance staff. We get a monthly newsletter, they recently installed a gate, and are working on renovating the complex and different units each week. Yes, the older units in the complex are a little dated, but it's overall a genuinely nice facility. The price is a bit higher, but you have to take into consideration the location. We are so close to various different places in La Mesa and Grossmont that it's worth the cost. The noise from Fletcher and 8 freeway is minimal, so it's a very quiet complex. There have been multiple bad reviews under different management companies, and even different managers, but the current management is great and attentive. read more

When needing a place to live, I came across The Ridge on Jackson. It's in a convenient location close to my job, tons of shopping and many restaurants to chose from. When i called for information, I spoke to the property manager Kimberly. She answered every question I had and was extremely helpful. I made an appointment to meet with Kimberly and see the property. The complex is very quiet which I loved! It has your basic amenities: pool, laundry room, trash bins, and parking. I just moved into a studio which is nicely set up. It has an updated kitchen, dining area, full bathroom, walk in closet and small patio. Very spacious and not like your typical studio layout. I am very excited to be living here and definitely want to give a big thank you to Kimberly! She made this whole process so easy for me! read more

The Ridge is an awesome place to be. When I got out of the Marine Corps and my wife and I made the decision to move SD area, the Ridge stood out (in a good way). The manager was very friendly and helpful. When we decided to make the move, they helped us make sure we were set up, and everything was taken care of in a timely manner. Since the new Manager, Kim, has started she has made sure all of our needs have been taken care of. For example, we had a plumbing issue once at near midnight so we called the maintenance emergency number and spoke with a representative about the issue. The next morning I got a friendly call from Kim saying everything was getting taken care of and that the repairman was on his way. It meant a lot how much she cared about getting the job done! As for the apartment itself, it is definitely a great place to live. For the square footage, the layout makes it seem very spacious. We have a first floor apartment on the hill-side so we have a nice little backyard. It is definitely worth the extra rent. It makes the place feel more homey. A HUGE plus is that everything is within walking distance; i.e. Costco, Target, the Mall....and the best part, Chili's! If you are looking for a place, and the Ridge has an opening, I DEFINITELY recommend leasing here. read more

I was living in a one bedroom. The apartment it's self was nice. And roomie, the only down side the the apartment is that they have windows/wall units in the living room for the one bedroom. Where in two bedroom it's in the bedroom. The air circulation SUCKS!!!!! The ac air never makes it to the bedroom and more times then not my husband and I wake up dripping with sweat. (Sooo nasty) as everything else gose. The pool is tiny, and the laundry room is OK. Seen better. It's pretty quit most the time, there in was the neighbors dog barked all the time!!!! Hours on end sometimes. The reason I'm giving it a two is because: 1: more times then not I have woke up to my whole apartment smelling like pot. And that's not okay with me. 2: the strange people looking through the trash at night is pretty scary when your alone. 3: there has been a few times where I have seen drug deals going on in the complex. 4: with the last leasing office lady she was hardly ever in the office at the time she said she would be. 5:there was a time my husband witnessed her ex husband/husband/ I don't know what he is. Go in to apartment that was vacant with other people. 6: I was on the top floor and the people under me apartment was infested with cockroaches, so they wanted to spray the surrounding apartment! That awesome no problem. Other then my husband just got home from deployment and we was about leave. They give a 2 day notice. And we was to leave for Palm the next day. So we get the house ready as the list said. And waited.....and wait.... so I called the pest control company in use. And i was informed they they was not sure why we had been told.they was coming because they did not have the apartment scheduled for service that day. Witch immediately pissed me off. After a hour the pest control company called me and said they would send someone out there to spry since we was already ready. Once the man got there. He said he just got the call to do the other 5 apartments. 7: the two bedroom apartment face over the driveway. And there was this one apartment that let there dogs pee and poop all over the balcony witch smelled god awful, just down right horrible. They hardly ever cleaned it and when they did they spread it with water off their balcony in to the driveway, so most the time it was cover in dog poop and pee. There was this one time, my husband went to walk under the balcony and the dog went to go pee and my husband was hit with it. I was so angry. And told the leasing office person. And was told I should go tell the people my self. These incidents made me hate leaving hear, witch is a shame cause like a said the apartment it's self was really cute. read more

I have lived here for almost a year now. I saw the reviews about the past management and I was a little worried, but the new manager Mike is very dedicated and hospitable. He's always walking the property make sure everyone's taken care of and always responds to emails and calls. Since they changed owners, things have definitely been looking up! They have gated the property and seem to be putting more effort towards creating a community in the complex. They post a monthly newsletter on everyone's doors with events in San Diego and important information and procedures. Very informative! We have a newly renovated apartment and it's very nice! The only reason for the 1 star is solely on the management of this apartment unit. The current manager is a joke. Office hours state open I believe Tuesday through Saturday from like 10am till 5pm or whatever. I believe that she is in the office maybe once a week for about an hour! Good luck ever finding her when you need her. Good luck ever getting a hold of her on the office phone that is listed on the office door! She is never there to Anwser the call. I had to literally call the emergency phone just to get a hold of her. I find that when your leading manager lives in the same complex she works at it is to easy for her to slack off and just chill in her unit and neglect all the resisdents. I recently moved out over two months ago on military orders and had to break the contract early but it was good being that the lease stated that I could break due to official military orders which I had. I also gave her 40 days notice well enough time for her to find another tenant. So when I was leaving I have her my forwarding address for her to mail my security deposit sense we did a post walk through together and she said the apartment was in great shape and she would get me the full refund. Well here I am 2 months + later and about a million phone calls later and still no check. She had made a thousand exuses as to why I have not received the check and she has been giving me the run around on everything. She refuses to give me her supervisors number or anyone else to talk to about her performance. I am half way tempted to buy a plane ticket and fly back to San Diego to see this lady in person and rip her a new one about being lazy and getting her act together. Worst customer service worst care an apartment can treat there tenants with. I highly recommend finding another place to rent unless you wanna deal with all the management issues I listed above. I've lived here for a little over a year and love it! The management company is fairly large so I didn't think service would be great but I was surprised when I moved in and the manager they have here, I think her name is Jamie, has been more than accomodating and pleasant. I had a couple concerns last month that were small but she made them top priority and got them done immediately. The location is wonderful and close to everything and it's very quiet here. Very impressed with the customer service and my apartment. I am hoping to stay here as long as possible. read more

I am currently living here and the service is bare minimum. The woman in the front office will not look in you eyes at all when she speaks to you. She does live onsite but you will NEVER see her. The office is closed a lot due to "meetings" (the meetings might be true but its pretty convenient that she lives onsite and is never there) so don't try to go and report a problem or a maint. request. I own a dog and have been told to pick up my dogs poo (which I do, EVERY TIME) but her husband can't pick up theirs. My rent has gone up 3 times, well if i decide to renew it will for a third. The other two post are true about the homeless. I don't see them onsite but don't think you won't be able to walk to 7eleven without being asked for change. The complex is pretty quiet. They just did renovations so they are nice (looking). All of the money they spent they couldn't spend an extra $10,000 or so to replace ALL of the wood on the banisters. Instead, they just painted over rotten wood. My patio was "fixed" by replacing ONE of the corner 4x4 and half of the other. JOKE!!!!!!! They get two stars because all-in-all the apartments are pretty cool the way they are laid out and they are quite big. Last thing my friend was told that they had one bedrooms available when he was ready to move in and when he was she didn't have any. Besides the three that were around me of course. If you are the type to not complain and don't require much then this would work for you. But I would suggest just looking elsewhere. You can find pretty much the same for less. 1 star is being overly generous! I was going to help someone and co-sign on a unit here and it was an absolute disaster. They are UNPROFESSIONAL, do not follow any laws, request $400 to pretend it is an exclusive sight and you will be placed on a waiting list. After deciding this little hell hole (surrounded by a homeless community and the parking is not gated, the only benefit is the area is not too far from Grossmont Center), well, we requested the priority list money back (as they promised) over 45 days ago and to date it has not been returned. And god forbid you need to call these people, get used to talking to an answering machine only so can you imagine what happens to the people who live there. The staff are incompetent (her name is Nelly) at this facility and again, unless you are desperate, do not rent here. The bumbling fool ended up saying we agreed to a unit we did not and that's a reason she wanted to keep the "wait list" notification list money. This place is a disaster and I should have known when the property managers switched in the middle of the process. Also, I would not advise this location for any single woman who come in at night time (it looks crazy) Another odd thing about this place is for some reason there are other YELP reviews for this place but they are not on this search! In a nutshell, if you have any standards do no rent here but if you have no options you might consider it! read more
