The technician was rude. Didnt know the door, just storm in to the yard, not ringing bell. We have a dog sign and our dog was running in the backyard. $170 just to come out. Couldnt say whats wrong, just 2000$ repair. And told us need to charge $30 for stand by fee extra. Sat there not doing anything. Rude, attitude was so bad. And racist! Shake his head and yelled just give me 170 and thats it! When we said about not justifying another 30$. He took the cash, shake his head and left. Didnt even give a receipt!! DO NOT USE IF U WANT SOMEONE RACIST AND RUDE AND DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT REPAIRS! Certainly not surprised to see so many 1-star reviews. From my experience, Mr. Vigil is essentially a human wrecking ball, only more rude and expensive. Not the qualities you want from an appliance serviceman. We called Mr. Vigil to fix the ice maker in our refrigerator. During his inspection, Mr. Vigil removed the filter from our refrigerator without turning off the water supply to the filter.  He did not reattach the filter before leaving.  Water therefore leaked from the open hose overnight until our contractor found the wood kitchen floor flooded the next morning.  The flooding inflicted permanent damage to the wood floor throughout the entire kitchen and into the living room. The cost of the labor and materials for this repair was around $10,000.  Of course, Mr. Vigil is trying to deny any responsibility for the damage. On top of this, Mr. Vigil did not wear a mask when he entered our house despite it the pandemic. He also complained nonstop about how "political" California is the whole time he was with us. I would give this business ZERO stars if I could. While driving west bound on Stoneridge in the far right lane, between Denker and Johnson Drive right before the 680 on ramp, the driver of Vigil Appliance nearly caused an accident with my vehicle. We were both traveling at the same speed side by side when the driver of the van began recklessly forcing his way into the my (right) lane from the middle lane, almost forcing me into the bicycle lane and curb. When I honked, alerting him he was about to hit my car (which he no doubt knew), he continued to merge into my lane, forcing me to swerve into the bike lane. Then - to make matters more dangerous- once in front of my car, he slammed on his brakes, causing me to slam on mine , potentially causing a multi -vehicle accident. I know this happens all the time with clueless and/or rude drivers. However, when it's a business vehicle, representing their company out in the roads driving aggressively and dangerously-I want to alert potential customers if theirs to be aware of total lack of professionalism while driving a company vehicle dangerously. Might be a red flag when considering doing business with them. I would reconsider using this business. read more

I saw Heather's experience with the Vigil Appliance van yesterday. She has given a fantastic and ACCURATE description of her encounter with Vigil Appliance. Very scary to watch and the driver was being very vindictive when he slammed on his brakes as he forced his way in front of her. There was no danger in front of him. He was HOPING to cause a rear end collision. After reading the other REVIEWS, he probably had a BAD (read: USUAL) day and needed to get money into his Sales column for the day. If I could give this man negative stars I would. THIS PLACE HAS BY FAR THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE !!!!!!!!!! The man is a grumpy, rude person who has no business trying to "help" people. It's bad enough he's only in the office from 8-9 am only. But when you do make an appointment with him and tell him you will be home all day and happen to miss his call -he doesn't come. Excuse me but some people are busy with young kids as explained previously. TWICE he came to our house and didn't end up fixing anything. The first time, he didn't have the parts. The second time, he didn't even start his work because we got into a feud over his dirty shoes. It was raining, and I didn't want him to walk all over our new carpet (where the baby crawls, by the way). He refused to take his shoes off and told me he is suing another customer because he did take his shoes off and got hurt. He refused to wear booties. He just wouldn't relent, so as I was looking for towels to lay down on the ground, he takes off. That was it, no trying to work on a solution. He just leaves and says when I have things set up for HIM , he'll come back. NO THANK YOU. Shame on Maytag or any other big corporation for using such a shoddy repairman with a nasty attitude. I came into contact with Vigil Appliance because they were the contractor recommended by Whirlpool when I called about my refrigerator. I will never make that mistake again. As others have said, the owner is very rude and unaccommodating. He refused to accommodate my request that he not come between 11-1 because my toddler is napping at that time. When I asked for an early appointment he said, snottily, "Everyone wants the first appointment of the day." When I volunteered that we could do a late afternoon appointment, he said his afternoon is 12-4. I asked if we could do 2-4 (foolishly assuming he could go somewhere else in the afternoon before my house). He said, "My afternoon appointments are 12-4." I cancelled the appointment. I then called Contra Costa Appliance, which was more than happy to work with my schedule. read more

He was sent out by whirlpool to service my new kitchenaid dishwasher and bad manners, wouldn't put down any protection for wood flooring before pulling out unit even though I requested him to and said he would leave if I want him to! Of course I wanted DW fixed so...My 11 year old girl was a bit frightened. And later I found out when he put DW back into place he bunched the outer sound insulation such that it would not go all the way in. read more

I called him because I was referred by Vinotemp as someone who fixes their wine refrigerators. He quoted me over $150 to come out just to diagnose what was wrong. He refused to give me any sort of range of what it could cost to fix the unit when I told him I can't justify spending $150+ just to find out what's wrong with the unit. I ended up calling around, found someone who's fee is $85 AND they apply it towards the cost of the repair. Plus he was able to give me a range. read more

What a waste of time! I made an appointment and stayed home for the assigned 4 hour window from 8 am to noon. At noon, I called to find out if he was running late. I never heard from him again. I was in need of a repair for my U Line refrigerator. We called to schedule an appointment and set up time to drop off the unit. I dropped it off and after a brief conversation we agreed to have him look at the problem and he would get back to me. He called me back the next day to tell me it would need a control replaced and would have it ready for me the following Monday. I stopped off to pick up the unit and he invited me in and asked if I needed anything to drink ( it was 102°). It was the controller as he indicated. I really appreciated that he would let me drop off my refrigerator for repair and the graciousness by which he treated me. His service was better than most I've experienced and was executed flawlessly. Kudos to All!! No other repair service would allow me a drop off or schedule to my home. I would use him again if the occasion arose. read more

Had a refrigerator/ice maker repair this afternoon. Al called at 12:02pm on my house phone and cell phone I was in the bathroom. He was not at the house at this time. He did not have the courtesy to leave a number to reach him except his office that he would check on Monday morning. I called his office at 12:07pm. I stayed home from work to meet this man and he does that to a new customer. I don't care how good a repair man he is that is UNACCEPTABLE!!!!!, if not downright rude!!! We love Vigil Appliance - its old school, but the owners is straight-shooter who knows what he is doing, and can fix most things. You don't find guys like this anymore. I'm surprised at some of the comments around the owner's attitude - he's been nothing but polite and courteous to us, fixing a refrigerator, washing machine and a dryer over the past 10 years. I suspect that people are unhappy when they get a repair bill, so they take it out on the repair guy. In any case, I highly recommend. read more

I concur. He wasted six hours of our time. He gives you a window of four hours and calls you once before he gets en route. If you miss the call and call back he won't answer the phone!! I left my work number so a secretary will answer right away and confirm that someone is at the house waiting to let him in. He refused to call the work number!!! I had a very good experience with Vigil Appliance Service. Mr. Vigil has fixed both are Subzero refrigerator and our washing machine at different times. Both times he was prompt, courteous, and professional. And his prices were reasonable. He is highly competent and very experienced at what he does. He diagnosed the problems very quickly. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY (OWNER/TECHNICIAN) !!! HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! I requested a service call because our ice maker stopped working. The owner/technician came to our house and quoted about $500.00 to fix the ice maker and recommended replacing the refrigerator door gasket. He ordered the parts and completed the service in April 2015. By early August, my ice maker stopped working and the door where he installed the new gasket no longer seals causing temperature issues in my refrigerator. When I called and explained the problems, he told me nothing was covered because it was outside of the 90 day warranty. I am now out $500.00 and both things he repaired broke within four months.... and according to his "warranty" nothing is covered! What an awful experience. This is a one person operation. To start with he only returns calls between 8:00 and 9:00 of the following day. We had to wait weeks to get the our dishwasher repair done. A week or two after the "repair" we realized that the heating element was not working and that the dishes were being washed at the temperature of the hot water coming out of the tap. Also, heated drying was not working. I called to asked him to come back and fix the problem and he stated that the we need to run hot water into the sink until we have purged all of the cold water out of the line every time we run the dishwasher. He said that this was the way that the dishwasher was designed. I explained that this was not the problem and that as far as I could tell the heating element wasn't heating at all. When I asked if there was a simple test to see if the heating element was heating up he became belligerent and said that there was not a way to do such a test. I strongly recommend avoiding this business. read more

If I could give ZERO stars, I would. I have never received worse service from any technician before. My experience with Vigil Appliance Service is hands down appalling. My KitchenAid dishwasher was broken. I called the KitchenAid customer care hotline and they made an appointment with a KitchenAid certified technician - Vigil Appliance. The appointment was on Friday, June 6, 2014. From the moment the Vigil's owner Al walked into my home, his attitude had been unpleasant. For example, when he asked me what was the problem with my dishwasher, I was cut off twice because apparently he didn't like the way I described it. Twice when I started to describe the problem, he scolded me like a school teacher: "That's not what I asked, tell me the problem again!" The bigger issue came later. After he diagnosed the problem and ordered the replacement part from a warehouse, I asked him when he would come out again to make the repair. He said the part would arrive the following Tuesday, latest Wednesday. He charged me $75.95 for making the trip and $25 as a deposit. The next Thursday, after receiving no calls from Al, I called him to follow up. At first he said the part hadn't arrived yet, but a couple of minutes later he realized that the part did arrive. He then moved on to making the next appointment for this Monday, June 16. He only said it would be between 8 a.m. and 12 noon. I had to stay home to wait for him for that whole morning, but he never showed up. I then left a message on his voice mail. He called back at 3:30 p.m. Monday and said he had no appointment with me and had no recollection of my service ticket. After my detailed description of my dishwasher issue, he remembered, but he said he put down the wrong date of service. His calendar showed Tuesday service. On Tuesday June 17, which is today, I arranged to stay home again (imagine the trouble of not being able to go to work two days in a row). At 8:30 a.m. he called and said he would arrive at my home in 30 minutes, maximum 40 minutes. I told him to be here on time since I had an errand to run at 9:45, and will be gone for 25-30 minutes. He said no problem. The reality was - he was late. Al showed up at 9:40 a.m. I explained the situation to Al - that my neighbor would stay with him while I run my errand, and I would be back in 25-30 minutes. He said my arrangement was unacceptable. His repair work would only last for 20 minutes (which means he would have waited for only 5-10 minutes if he did finish that fast) and unless he got paid upon completion of work, he would bill me for the extra waiting time. I explained that this short wait was because he missed his commitment yesterday and he arrived late today. Then Al said, "Make an appointment when you are in a better mood. I won't fix your dishwasher today." He simple stormed off and drove away. Vigil Appliance's service was extremely dissatisfactory due to 1) the rude demeanor Al uses to treat his customer; 2) his inability to stick to his appointment which created chaos to his customer's schedule; and 3) lack of work ethics. Additionally, I took the time to look up the pricing of the replacement part. The part was the electronic control board of KitchenAid dishwater model KUDT03FTSS2. I went to a few Websites and made a couple of calls to appliance part dealers. The prices range from $150-$172. Al was going to charge me $229.02 + tax, which was written on his service slip. And on top of that, he was going to charge me another labor cost of $147.95 +tax. I am sort of glad that he didn't go through with the service. I would have been ripped off AND treated rudely! read more

HORRIBLE experience! Please do not waste your time or money using Al from Vigil appliance. I contacted Mr. Vigil in December to fix my 2 year old ULine ice maker. I should have known better when he missed our first appointment. When I called to find out where he was, he apologized but admitted that he forgot. We rescheduled and when he came he determined that we needed to replace a part, which he said would take 6 weeks. Really? So, I waited the six weeks plus 2 more to make it onto his "busy" schedule. He came out to replace the part and when he left, our ice maker was WORSE off than when we originally called him! It was making a beeping/error sound every 2 minutes and not making ice at all! I had him come out once again and this time he stopped the beeping and got the unit to make ice again, but after he left we realized that it still had the original problem (which was that the water would not ever shut off and it was making too much ice). Although he did say he would come out to TRY to fix it again, I can not afford to waste anymore time off of work to wait for him. His hours are only 9am-3pm so I would need to take time off of work to sit around and wait for him. So, 3 months and $500 later we still have the same problem. When I asked for a refund, he said he would refund only the $75 service call, not his labor. I really wish I had read the Yelp reviews. As I read them now, all others are so true to my experience as well. Please heed this warning! read more

Vigil is great. Yes, it's a one-man shop, but he's one man who knows appliances inside-out. He has a system that works just as he says it will: catch him between 8 and 9 am or leave him a message and he'll return the call either that evening or between 8 and 9 the next morning. He walked us through one problem on the phone so we resolved it without a service call. When we had a problem that we couldn't solve over the phone, we scheduled an appointment two days out. He called that morning to confirm the time of the appointment and he arrived on time. He diagnosed the problem immediately and had it fixed in very little time. He left the service tag open in case we still had issues, but it worked perfectly. I couldn't have asked for better service. read more

Very difficult to work with. Appointment window is from 8 to 5. He will make his calls from 8 to 9am. If you missed his call then too bad, he is not going to show up. He only has a land line and you end up leaving him a v-mail, very old school. The guy has an attitude problem too, as other reviewers have mentioned, he is a grumpy old man. Do not use this service! Total rip-off and VERY slow to respond and complete work. I had this guy come look at my dishwasher, he pulled a piece out in about 15 minutes and said he just had to soak it in cleaner for a day or two. A week went by and after a few phone calls he finally came back spent 15 minutes putting a little part back in and handed me a bill for almost $200! I could have purchased the same model new for $250. What made it worse is that this guy literally lived around the corner from me and he charged me a $75 traveling fee! This is after he had quoted me $40 to come take a look at the dishwasher with no mention of a $75 traveling fee. Stay away from this company, they are crooks. read more

We called Al to see what's wrong with our electrical stove top. He came and checked it out, indicating two switches need to be replaced. The invoice he gave us listed: Parts $277 (the actual cost is about $110), labor $24.95, and what's more - a sales tax $147.95!!! so the total is $449.88 (he did the calculation wrong - it added up to $449.90). We told him "just forget it", but he charged us $125.95 for a no-service fee. read more

How can I give this crook a zero? Jenn Air hooked us up with this guy. I tell him the error code showing on the microwave, "inverter". A week later he shows up without the part. He wants $75 just to confirm the error code. I complain; he assures me he will stick to his estimate of $150, and I will owe $75 when he returns. Okay I say. A week later I call, he says Jenn Air has dropped him (I assume too many complaints) so he won't come back. Where's my $75? He says he's keeping it. read more
