I honestly wish I could give this place lower than one star. A few months ago, I ordered pad thai for take out and had said multiple times that I was allergic to peanuts. When I got home, there were peanuts in a corner of the take out box. I go back and ask for a new order as I am allergic to peanuts. The woman at the desk said "oh yes we put them on the side!" I insisted on a new order and she said that she'll just "scoop out the peanuts" which still does not solve the fact the food is now contaminated. I just asked for a refund and went on my way. I decided to give this place another chance today and went in to eat. I didn't realize that the customer service could get any worse. There was only another couple in the restaurant with my plus one and I and yet, we still waited 20 minutes to put our order in. Food was sub par but what really turned me off was the fact that I found, not one, but two strands of hair in my food. Not even half way into our meal, our server dropped off our check. All in all, do not recommend. If you want good asian food, try Simply Khmer or Campus Express or Red Rose, which are all fairly close by and have good customer service on top of being clean. read more

Besides the older lady waitress, every waiter or waitress there are unpleasant and act like you are wasting your time by asking them questions. Service was really slow considering there were only 4 tables taken, even had to go up to the front to pay because no one came by our table. I have been coming to this establishment for over 10 years. I frequented Viet Thai when I was in high school eating everything from the pho to the old buffet they used to have in the afternoons. Sadly this past Friday was the final time I will ever come here. I got the chicken pho which I have had once or twice as opposed to the special beef based pho I typically get. The chicken tasted a little off but I proceeded to eat the entire bowl anyways thinking it was all in my head. The next morning I woke up dizzy, vomiting, having cold sweats and having diarrhea. These symptoms lasted until Monday after I flushed out all of whatever the hell bacteria they fed me. I was tested for covid Sunday because I wanted to be sure before bad mouthing this restaurant but results came back Tuesday as a negative. I'm really disappointed that I got food poisoning here because I have heard similar stories from others about this place but never chose to believe it. Now, I would give them 0 stars, and urge consumers to steer clear of this place or bear the consequences, sorry that's my review. read more

My family and I have regular customers here for many years. Usually, everything is fine, we go here for quick lunches and that's about it. But for the last year, there's this other Vietnamese lady working here, she's rude, she brushes us off easily but yet we come here all the time. They should be treating us way better. On tonight's episode of "My Empty Fridge", I again found myself hungry with only condiments to eat. But instead of downing a bottle of ketchup and calling it a night, I decided to venture out and try the cuisine at Viet-Thai. (Note to self: Next time bring quarters or wait until 6 to go out so you don't have to feed the meter. I didn't get a ticket, thankfully, but I was stressed the entire time I was waiting.) The girl working the counter was on the phone when I arrived so I asked quietly for a takeout menu to peruse. She seemed a little annoyed by my presence at first and I must have made some sort of "Excuse me for asking you to do your job, biatch" face because she was very friendly after that. If she was taking an order, I'm sorry for interrupting, but if she was on a personal call, then whatever. Aaaaanyways, on to the food. All the menu items have Thai (or Viet, I really don't know) names that I couldn't even begin to pronounce, followed by an English description. Either way, I like that they don't dumb it down and Americanize the names for us English and whatever-Spanish-I-retained-from-high-school speakers. I had a dish called Pad Ke mao with chicken that I've had at other Thai places. Viet-Thai's version was...err...is delicious, as I'm still eating it now as I write this. It could be spicier to begin with, but they gave me a little cup of hot sauce which I've been adding liberally and now it's perfect. I also broke my pho virginity tonight. I read a lot about this stuff and didn't quite understand the PHOnomenon. Ha ha ha...I slay myself. Anyways, people seem to LOVE this stuff, but after tonight I'm on the fence about it. I tried Dac Biet which is described as "a special combination with rare steak (well done), brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef ball." Now, I do eat tripe and the thought of tendon didn't gross me out, so I don't think it was either of those things, but the flavor was just a little weird for me. Also, I was confused by the menu description of "rare steak (well done), brisket, etc). How can rare steak be well done? Turns out it's the brisket that's well done. The steak is RARE. As in uncooked. But a few minutes sitting in the hot soup cooked it up a little bit. Is that what you're supposed to do with it? I don't know. I'm new at this, remember? Three stars for the food quality and an extra star for the food quantity. $15 bought me enough for at least two meals, possibly three. I should also mention that I found their menu online at menupix.com, but the prices on that menu are not accurate. I'm not a native Lowellite, nor do I spend a lot of time there. Actually, I have no idea why it's there and not closer to me. But, every time I come to Lowell for super-secret-spy-stuff...I make sure to make a pit stop here. This place is delicious. I think I nearly cried when I had the calamari for the first time. Cried tears of fried joy. They hurt, a little, but totally worth it. Stupidly fresh seafood. Everything is cooked...just right. Excellent flavor and use of sauces. Crispy vegetables. Also...great amount. It's not a 80% noodle, 15% veggie, 5% shrimps sort of place. They pile on that fish. Look, I've lived in Thailand, grew up in NYC, and now live in Somerville. I know my way around Thai food. (No, of course it doesn't taste like food in Thailand, but I've never been anywhere stateside that did. It just tastes amazing.) read more

I believe different restaurant serves different functions, the function Viet Thai serve is for you and your colleague to have a working lunch, but not for your and your family to have a decent meal. Regardless of its name, Viet Thai does not taste 'Viet' nor 'Thai' (I have asked so many people from both country). It's more like a American style Asian food exist solely to satisfy the need for food diversity. It's a good place for mass production and connivence. However, if one day Viet Thai disappears, there will be other restaurant take over its place really quick and no one will remember Viet Thai. We absolutely love this place! They have a really good 'all you can eat buffet' monday - friday before 2:30pm for only $6.95! What a steal! We barely catch their buffet hours, so we usually order their pad thai chicken, beef fried rice, chicken wings, crispy yellow noodles w/ beef, or pho; depending on what were craving of course! If I ever need a quick fix of cambodian or vietnamese food in Lowell, this is the spot. The Chow foon, esp the "crispy" chow foon is the best hands down. This place isnt a fancy place and the food is really cheap, so dont expect the best service. The new spot in Dracut isn't too good. The cook is from the previous owners and its more vietnamese style than cambodian. Do try the chicken wings though. delish! read more

For decor, it is average but they have expanded their restaurant and now have a lunch buffet section. I have been to their lunch buffet and it is a steal for what you get. 7.99 for eggrolls, chicken wings, crab Rangoon, pad Thai,dessert, fried rice, spring rolls, pork and eggs, vegetable dishes, and other dishes i cant remember. I highly recommend ordering seafood Mee Ka Thang there. This is a Cambodian dish but they make it the best compared to other Cambodian restaurants around Lowell. Mee Ka Thang is a flat noodle dish with eggs, vegetables, fish cake, type of meat and a gravy. Its a mouth watering dish that i never get tired of ordering. My favorite appetizer i would recommend trying is the shrimp wontons. These are wontons warped around shrimp and fried to a crisp. And these are served with a sweet and sour sauce. Appalled. Came here for buffet lunch at 1pm on Friday. There were 10-15 trays with literally 1/2 serving in each if any. We were there for 20 minutes from start to finish. I've eaten here 5-10 times over the years. I have always found the food to be fresh and consistently tasty. I really like the Pho, which is normally what I order. Huge servings - unless you are an extremely hearty eater, you will not need to order the larger size. Plenty of meat slices and tasty noodles; you'll be full for hours! This is my favorite Thai place. They seem to have very authentic Thai and Vietnamese dishes. The pad kee mao noodles are delicious, big portion, fresh ingredients, lots of veggies, and costs $7.50. The pho is tasty too according to a coworker. They also have a lunch buffet which is $7 and has some common Thai and Chinese style foods. I think this place is much better than Mango II Thai on Main St Tewksbury. Bigger portions and tastier food. The decor inside is very basic and there is only one waitress, but I am there for the food. P.S. I got yellow curry with fried tofu with a side of rice for take out and loved it. It was perfectly seasoned, a little spicy, and the fried tofu was the best I've had in a while. So delicious. The only thing missing for me, as a personal preference, is the fact that I love a little potato in my yellow curry. However, this curry is delicious with or without potato!
