    Pad prik khing chicken
    Zain R.

I feel like Vieng Thai has seen better days based on the Yelp reviews from mostly 9+ years ago. Unfortunately the inside looks very outdated. I picked the place because these types of places usually bring a nostalgic feeling of how the restaurants used to be but sadly here you can see that the place is now been through some rough times. There were splashes of curry and hot sauces on the walls/windows/tables that have been neglected. But let me talk about the food. The pad thai had a very good flavor but that is if you are eating it blindfolded and are lucky to not get a piece of the egg or the chicken. The chicken was rubbery and dry. And so was the egg. There were times when I couldn't tell the chicken and the egg textures apart. I would try and get a vegetarian pad thai next time because the noodles at least had a very good flavor. The other dish that my friend had ordered, the pad prik khing chicken was not good at all. The chicken and the beans both tasted like they had gone through several reheating sessions. The beans had no flavor left from being reheated. And the chicken had the same dry texture as the chicken that was in the pad thai. The rice was good as thankfully it didn't taste like it had previously been sitting in the fridge. Overall, I still think that this place has potential to be what it once was based on the previous reviews. I saw that they were very busy with to go orders during the late lunch time when we went in. I think it is one of those areas that people don't really visit often but if you are craving Thai and are in the area then this might just fix your craving.

Been here a couple of times now with okay results. This place has been here for quite some time! It use to be a highly recommended Thai option, but I feel like it falls short amongst the ever growing Thai options. The much talked about sausage is underwhelming. I mean, it is and coarse ground, but I'm not sure why people rave about it. You can find equally good sausage at most supermarkets. The green curry is definitely a change from what I am accustomed to eating. Their rendition is thin with a layer of oil on top, though the most distracting part is the heavy herbal taste. It really threw me off and dominates this dish. While definitely adding a bit of uniqueness to it, It took awhile to adjust to it. The crisp French green beans and bamboo shoots add a perfect bit of crunch. The spicy heat is pleasant and lingering on the lips. On my last visit I ordered the pad prik khing and tasted the pad thai. We ordered both with chicken, which was incredibly dry. The flavors of both dishes were nice, but the dry chicken was really disappointing. Portions were also on the smaller side. Overall okay place, but a remodel and a bit of change in the preparation of the dishes would do a lot of good.

I recently returned to a family-owned restaurant that I hadn't visited in a while. My friend loves the Pad Thai, and I was pleasantly surprised to find many vegan options on the menu. The food is outstanding, the service is friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. It's located in a strip centre with ample parking.

Great food great service. We arrived at 11:15 on a Friday. It was slow however, it did pick up as time went on. I understand why because the food was very good. If you like spicy get hot because I ordered my dish medium hot and had zero kick. Other than that the food and service was good. I do recommend and will visit again.

    Fish Cake 2/5 - it's meh, and it's $7 for 4 small pieces.

I had been craving Thai food. And I had heard from a guy who had done Peace Corp in Thailand that this is the most authentic Thai spot in Houston. So my husband and I went last weekend. There was no one there when we walked in around 2pm but one group came in for dine in and another two guys for takeout while we were there. The service isn't gushingly warm but fine. We got the fried fish cakes, green curry, and drunken noodles: Fish cakes, 2/5: Interesting herb flavors but $7 for 4 little pieces. I think pricing them lower would encourage turnover. Took a star off for the portion compared to price. Drunken noodle, 4/5: Tiny portion but really great wok flavors. Took a star off for the portion compared to price. Green curry, 2/5: This rendition was salty, not creamy, no sweetness whatsoever, overall underwhelming. And the rice was really watery and not fresh. The peppers in the fish sauce are bomb though, and I picked them out of the sauce - I am certain my body temp was at least a degree higher than normal eating them, but that was so good. Keep in mind the recommendation came literally a decade ago through a guy on a dating app. Maybe this is authentic and I don't like authentic Thai food - doubtful, since I had winter break in Bangkok and Pataya one year and loved the food. Maybe the guy wanted a cheap date when dishes here were $6.95/plate - more likely. Would I come again - not super likely but not a definitive no. I see on reviews that the red curry is good here. So maybe that next!

Solid Thai food with Thai natives waiting tables. Went here for lunch today. Tried several dishes & thought most were solid. The green curry was ok. The Tom Kha & fresh spring rolls were excellent. Thai tea was too sugary, but perfect once I diluted it a bit. Ambiance is not fancy. Very much a local place.

One of the most memorable part of this restaurant experience was their soft spring rolls and their spicy Thai curry! This restaurant is truly a hidden gem. I've gone to many Thai restaurants but this one has got to be the best so far. The spring roll was fresh, but it was the sweet peanut dipping sauce. It tasted incredible, almost like a caramel peanut butter sauce. It was to sweet but just perfect. I could taste the caramel and I loved the nutty flavor. The red Thai curry was fully bodied and rich with those traditional curry flavors. Loved the subtle taste of coconut milk. They added spicy oil for that additional kick. I didn't eat the rice. There was honestly no need to eat the rice as I gobbled the veggies up and drank the curry broth!

Love it. BYOB. Service is also good and friendly. The food is amazing and it's pretty big to bring friends. Restrooms seem a little weird they go up but nothing out of the ordinary. It's very low light but we likes it.

This place looks so run down outside in the little strip mall it inhabits but in my experience that's usually a sign of good food. The interior was very 1997, simple and quaint. Definitely a very casual spot. The service from out waitress was very friendly and fast, everything was on our table in a matter of minutes. We got the soft spring rolls and they were really good and the sweet peanut sauce they were served with was so yummy. I got the hot basil fried rice for my entree. The presentation of the food wasn't the best, it kind of just looked slopped on the plate but it was really good and flavorful. It was literally the greasiest fried rice I've ever had but luckily I'm a pig and I'm into that type of thing. My brother said his food was pretty good but very very sweet. It was pretty good all around, I'd be back but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Overall, I would give the place a 3! The place is nice, it was a little hot inside. A cute, nice, small & quiet restaurant. We went for dinner at 5:30 on a Sunday. We ordered dishes & shared family style. The appetizers of wings & sausage were alright. I have had better sausages at different Thai & Lao restaurants. The wings were cooked/fried to perfection, but lacked a lot of flavor. Again, I have had wings at Thai restaurants that taste better. My favorite dishes were Pad See Ew & the sweet chili fried rice! Both dishes were flavored well & enjoyable to eat. The pad Thai and green curry were good, but not the best I have ever had. Wish they had dessert here since we were craving someone sweet. The ladies and service were great! They were efficient and we got and ate our meal within 45 mins. I love a good family owned restaurant. I would go back for the sweet chili rice only!

I ordered it with beef, and the beef was very tender and not dry at all. Furthermore, the overall dish has the wok hay flavor and was one of my favorite pad see ews I've ever had. Thai Iced Tea - it was your average thai iced tea where it wasn't mixed at first(which I think is a sign of authenticity!) and sweet at the perfect level with condensed milk. What makes this a four star was that the service was a little iffy in my opinion. Even though we were in a large group which makes it harder for waiters to order, the waiter stared at one of my friends and started mumbling despite him already ordering which made it pretty awkward.

The Tom Kha had a lighter, more watery base than the rich coconut flavor I'm used to. As for the entree, I ordered the Khao Soi with shrimp and my friend ordered the spicy red snapper. We tried their appetizers including Salmon Rolls (flavorfully packed with cream cheese, salmon, and spinach in a crispy shell and loving that actually spicy mayo on the side), Thai Style Jerky (deep fried and sun dried marinated pork and beef served with sticky rice rolls and side spicy tamarind sauce, a bit too dry/chewy), Fried Tofu (perfect little triangles, so good by itself or with the side sweet and sour sauce with crushed peanuts), Chive Pancake (deep fried and chive packed triangles with a slight chew to it, great by itself or with it's spicy soy sauce companion). As for the mains, the Spicy Seafood Fried Rice is a good value as it was loaded with all sort of fruits of the sea (shrimp, squid, and mussel), with prominent lemongrass and kaffir lime aroma, but a bit wet or moist for a fried rice dish, the Crabmeat Omelet is served with a nice portion of lump crabmeat where you can taste the flavor of the seafood and add sriracha to liking, and the Beef Pad See Ew is made appetizing with wok charred flat rice noodles along with a savory blend of soy sauce, Chinese broccoli and egg. The portion size is alright and filling for a moderately hungry individual, though it would've been even better a tad bigger for those coming in hangry. I'll be back for more when I'm craving some modern Thai food and especially want to try their curry dishes. Service was quick and efficient, attentive to refills on drinks and friendly!
