Went to Vidiots last month for a special screening of "Crushing Wheelchairs" in the reserved theater and liked what I saw. I only went into the lobby and the theater itself, but it was comfortable, clean and had a great atmosphere. $11.00 for a glass or orange wine may be steep (or it may not, I'm not sure how the price market is at the mo) but it's not a necessary expense. I look forward to returning and seeing more of this space! read more

I loved Vidiots so much that I became a member! I first learned about Vidiots after being invited to attend a season premiere watch party. After becoming a member, I was able to attend similar special screenings, including 'Sinners' and their Oscars Viewing Party. Many of these screenings are free or low cost. After around 10, the membership basically pays for itself. I also love the mix of classic and contemporary films. During Christmas week, I treated myself to a screening of 'Meet Me in St. Louis,' which was so specially seeing on the big screen for the first time. The picture and sound quality was phenomenal! The only negative is the street parking; it can get competitive on the weekends. read more

I hate the name of this place, but I come here often because it's within walking distance. I would not otherwise since there is nowhere to park. More importantly, the staff at the theater sides at times lives up to the poor choice of name. They need to be trained in customer service. Many others here have commented that the greeters are awkward and off-putting. They are. Also, the bartender ignored me to chat with a friend who showed up even though I was in the middle of placing my order. The first time in my long life I have not left a tip for bartender, smh The rental side has friendly and knowledgeable staff members. The DVD collection is pretty good, but rarer titles might be unplayable due to wrong region code or damage. read more

Forgot to check in here when I went. This place was.. interesting to say the least. Didn't know anything about it until I walked in. I thought I was walking into like a retro arcade at first, because I entered through the theater, but I was wrong. This is an old movie theater with a small bar, and attached is a small video store where I believe you can still rent movies. There was also a Photo Booth. Didn't have much staff interaction aside from when I first walked in the theater area. Once I got to the video store section, no one greeted me or even looked my way. Vidiots is such a cool spot. I've been here several times to rent movies and also to catch a screening in their theater, and it's always a great experience. The rental selection is amazing. They have thousands of titles across all kinds of genres, so whether you're into classics, horror, rom-coms, or hidden gems, you'll find something you love. Everything is organized in a fun and easy-to-navigate way, and their full catalogue is online which makes it super convenient to search ahead of time or while you're in the store to see if they have what you're looking for. Rentals are just a few dollars and it doesn't matter if it's a DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K. We recently rented "Lawrence of Arabia" in 4K and it looked incredible. The quality of the film was top notch and the colors were so vibrant. The theater at Vidiots is also a great place to watch a movie. We saw "Bride and Prejudice"there and loved it. They show all kinds of films and often host special events with actors, directors, and producers, etc. in attendance. The seats are comfortable, the space has a cool vibe, and they have a bar and snacks too. Parking can sometimes be difficult, especially if there's an event happening, so plan ahead. There is some street parking in front of the rental store and on Addison and Yosemite (residential areas). I sometimes also need to park across the street if those residential areas are full. If you're a movie fan, definitely check this place out. It's a great mix of nostalgia, community, and seriously good film curation. read more

I like that they're a non-profit focused on supporting the community and providing more interesting movies. Their prices are pretty good for food, drinks and movie. Their membership is also a write off since they are a non-profit. Workers I interacted with were all nice. Theater is on the smaller side and not stadium seating so a short person could get screwed over with a tall person in front of them. read more

Absolutely never go to vidiots for a first time experience of a classic movie. there was someone sitting behind me loudly talking to himself the entire movie, spoiling lines, scenes, and climactic moments. at no point did staff attempt to stop him. I have waited years to be able to watch Trainspotting and it's safe to say that after tonight I have still not watched it. Safe to say i will never go to vidiots again. Best theater on the east side for sure! I love the kiddie matinees on the weekends, staff is super friendly. Tickets are fairly priced as well as snacks/drinks. Bathrooms are impeccably clean. Also very much appreciate the staff not tolerating phones in the theater! Came here for a screening of Casper and loved the place. Very nice theatre (except the seats are too tight) with lots of seats, a food bar and an actual bar. I was really impressed with how many restrooms they had (all gender neutral) and how clean and tidy they were. Afterwards we walked next door to the video store and had fun browsing around, I love all the personalized signs made for categories. Employees were all very nice in the theatre and at the store. Street parking a plenty around here. Only a bit of a walk but sidewalks in residential areas are not ADA accessible so maybe drop off your friends and loved ones who may have difficulty and then go and park. read more

Aside from not the easiest parking, this place is hands down a great place. You can be a movie fanatic or just have good taste in the niche and want a different experience, this place is here for you. You can be on a solo night or a group hang or a throuple night-- and this place will still hit right. This is a cute lil theater. I've only been here one time and I enjoyed myself. This does have a hipster vibe but without being pretentious. I imagine they show quite a bit of indie productions here. Giving this 5 stars specifically for the inclusive bathroom situation. I know it's random. I appreciate and want to acknowledge places that have gender-inclusive bathrooms. Even though I myself am not trans, I have friends who are and I like to pay attention to spaces that would make them feel comfortable and welcomed. I love love love that this business was able to preserve one of the last video rental stores as well as a historic single-screen theater, for us all to continue to enjoy! Vidiots was a video rental store in Santa Monica, since 1985. After they had to relocate, the historic Eagle Theater was renovated to include the new and improved video store in the same space. It's now a 501c 3 nonprofit and you can become a member. They kept all of the historic charm of the main theater but added a cool bar/lounge area with quirky decor and plenty of movie memorabilia. They screen a wide variety of films, including well-known and loved classics, kid-friendly movies, new releases, and artsy or indie stuff. Love how inclusive they are with the all-gender restrooms. There are 2 separate bars; one with draft and canned beer, wine and NA beverages, and one with popcorn and snacks. The popcorn comes with real, hot self-serve butter! And a small bag is only $5, perfect for a snack but small enough so that you wouldn't get mad at yourself for finishing it before the movie. I've been here twice, once for the Cat Video Film Festival and recently this weekend for the World of Tomorrow animated trilogy. Everything about this theater is amazing except for 2 things: the main auditorium isn't soundproofed super well against the rest of the space. There were a few times when there would be a really quiet scene in the movie, and we could faintly hear people talking and laughing from the video store. I know it's a very old building and is run by a nonprofit, but I think soundproofing would be a good investment if they can. Also, even though the vintage seats with the wooden armrests are really cool, the cupholders are too small for the reusable wine cups they give out. It was very easy to knock over your glass and we did it a few times. Wine glasses with slightly smaller bases would do the trick! Really looking forward to coming here and seeing more films! read more

The seats were very comfortable and just a great set up. The parking in the area is NOT the greatest and you will be circling the block a few times but you'll find something. I received 2 tickets from Yelp Elite for an advanced screening of Saltburn here and I took my boyfriend to see the film. The event itself was amazing! There were free drinks from the bar, photo ops with costume props, and free popcorn! The lobby area was decorated in the Saltburn theme and the aesthetic and ambience was so well done! Now for a review of the theater - Vidiots has just one theater but it's pretty large and there's a good view of the screen from any seat. The sound quality is incredible and I really enjoyed the preserved vintage aesthetic of Vidiots (along with the attached video store). During the film, my boyfriend started to feel a bit light headed and left the theater. The staff were so sweet and immediately rushed to help, providing water, apple juice, and suggested he rest on one of the seats. Absolutely 100/10 staff service and they really went above and beyond to make sure someone in their theater was safe/okay - special shout out and thank you to the staff working on 11/13! Very much appreciated and I hope to come back for another event/screening! read more

I came to watch an advanced screening of Saltburn and was very excited to explore one of LA's many intimate, indie theaters. The premise of this theater being a nonprofit is one that I support, and its facilities and ambience are really taken well care of and so lovely. This theater is part vintage video store and part cinema. When you enter, the video store is immediately to the right where VHS tapes line the wall in a neat organized grid, and Blu-ray DVDs for rent flanking the window display. During the advanced screening, a section of the lobby was transformed to a mini photo booth complete with props related to the movie which I thought was super cute! The little embellishments such as vintage tapes lining the walls, niche cult favorite movie posters, ambience lighting, and floating candles created a very cozy, gothic vibe. Towards the back, there are two gender inclusive individual bathrooms and another set up the stairs. The theater itself is very moderately sized - it reminds me of a university theater space, the way the chairs are split up and spaced. I sat on the very left, and the view of the screen was great which I don't always feel whenever I watch a movie in an AMC, for example. The most impressive of the theater is the sound. Very high-quality, surround sound that is crisp and immersive especially in the space. Vidiots is a beautiful creation for those who are film buffs dedicated to enjoying this craft and art! Parking-wise, there is no lot adjacent to this theater, so they advise street parking (while being mindful of driveways into homes) and a parking lot structure that is a 6 minute walk away! read more

Vidiots rules! A great new addition to the current revival house renaissance going on in LA. Love looking through the video store but mostly go for the top notch screenings. Very good programming with frequent special guests. Also love getting a beer at the nice bar in the lobby. I've seen a lot there and I hope to see a lot more! Sure you can watch some of these films if you have them on DVD, but nothing beats watching everything from The Thing to 2046 to Hellboy (and this coming weekend: Marie Antonette) with a crowd who loves the film just as much as you do. They also show recent releases like the Materialists, etc. Socialize before/after the screening or just sneak away to rent something off your watchlist (or twenty) from the video store in the back. What a great addition to our small community of Eagle Rock! Not only does Vidiots bring a sense of Nostalgia but it brings the community together! We came here with the whole family, my fiance, our kids and pops, They were showing "The Bride of Frankenstein" we all had such an amazing time. We love what they did to the place, nostalgic with a touch of 80's modern, I also love how they personalize each showing, management welcomes everyone before the start of the show which truly makes it special! Popcorn has real butter and the concession has plenty of goodies to nibble on - they accept cash & cc payments. They are very welcoming to ONE AND ALL which is great especially in this day and age where intolerance has become a part of daily news (sad). Parking is street parking, Eagle Rock has plenty of little nook & crannies if you don't try to squeeze in the main artery of Eagle Rock Boulevard. This is such a gem in our beautiful city of LA. I came here for the first time to visit the Criterion Closet pop-up, and the staff were wonderful. They even passed out candy, popcorn, and ponchos! I didn't have a chance to check out the store and the theater that day , so I came back to see a screening (compliments of Vidiots, I won some tix on IG) and check out the store. The theater is almost 94 years old and it's in great condition. The lobby has a bar and concession stand that is very clean and well stocked. There are plenty of restrooms that are also impeccably clean. Again, the staff were gracious and welcoming. Their passion for film and Vidiots shines through. I can't wait to come back. They also have reasonably memberships with some nice perks. Can't wait to come back. read more
