Scratch your itch for a retro night out. Here comes a lineup of classics that take you back to the old school days of cinema. Vidiots will satiate any Flashback Friday, throwback Thursday, and even that twanging ache of nostalgia. We attended a private event for a school fundraiser and were greeted by pleasant surprise met with charm and nostalgia. For starters, right up front, there was an Instant Picture Machine. With a push of a button it captures the moment on thermal-heated printout. It's FREE and it makes a cute & whimsical memento. Next, the all-gender bathrooms on the 2nd floor were squeaky clean and thoughtfully stocked with feminine amenities and extra rolls of t.p. The Bar & Concessions offered popcorn, nachos, candy, and sodas on one side of the Lobby with beer, wine, cider, and kombucha on the other. For a little guilty pleasure, there were Blood Sweat + Butter cookies at Concessions too. When it was showtime, we took our seats in the historic Eagle Theater, where wooden cupholders and fabric seats added to the old world charm. In fact, its vibe took me back to the old days of watching independent films at the iconic Laemmle theaters. It was cool and I got my 80s fix while "The Neverending Story" unfolded. + RENT THE SPACE Want to host an Oscar viewing party, a screening, a fundraiser, a red carpet event, or a birthday party? Reserve in advance as space books up. - The Eagle Theater has 271 seats - MUBI Microcinema seats 35 + MOVIE RENTAL NEXT DOOR Browse through a selection of flicks that take you back to the days of "be kind, rewind". You'll also find everything else--from the newest films, to those straight-to-DVD titles, and lots of shorts, music vids, and experimental work from around the world. Their library is made up of 60,000+ titles on DVD, Blu-Ray, and 4K Ultra HD, including impossible-to-find titles. Rentals are priced like the good ole days too. Only $2 (members) and $3 (non-members). + LA (FILM) HISTORY Before Vidiots moved into this space, this location was once The Yosemite Theatre (opened in May 1929), then later became The Eagle Theatre in 1940. Over the course of the years, it was an adult movie theater in the 70s to early 80s, a church, and went dark after 70 years during the pandemic. Then, in 2023 Vidiots, touted as "LA's non-profit video store since 1985" revamped their business model and moved into this spot. Founded and led by women over the last few decades, Cathy Tauber & Patty Polinger, helped raise $2MM, and they've kept the doors open 7-days/week ever since. The End.

I haven't rented from the video store but the theater is fantastic. Great bar and affordable concessions, unique lineup of movies, and a good audience. People were respectful, but reactive. Solid audio and picture. Can't wait to visit again.

Vidiots is such a cool spot. I've been here several times to rent movies and also to catch a screening in their theater, and it's always a great experience. The rental selection is amazing. They have thousands of titles across all kinds of genres, so whether you're into classics, horror, rom-coms, or hidden gems, you'll find something you love. Everything is organized in a fun and easy-to-navigate way, and their full catalogue is online which makes it super convenient to search ahead of time or while you're in the store to see if they have what you're looking for. Rentals are just a few dollars and it doesn't matter if it's a DVD, Blu-ray, or 4K. We recently rented "Lawrence of Arabia" in 4K and it looked incredible. The quality of the film was top notch and the colors were so vibrant. The theater at Vidiots is also a great place to watch a movie. We saw "Bride and Prejudice"there and loved it. They show all kinds of films and often host special events with actors, directors, and producers, etc. in attendance. The seats are comfortable, the space has a cool vibe, and they have a bar and snacks too. Parking can sometimes be difficult, especially if there's an event happening, so plan ahead. There is some street parking in front of the rental store and on Addison and Yosemite (residential areas). I sometimes also need to park across the street if those residential areas are full. If you're a movie fan, definitely check this place out. It's a great mix of nostalgia, community, and seriously good film curation.

The theater is so clean and the concessions were decently priced. I got a large popcorn that was $7. The candies were $5 but I passed on grabbing them this time since my hands were full XD The staff were so kind! It was an amazing experience to watch a movie in this theater. I'll definitely be back!

    A pristine restoration!

A great combination of a video store and a revival theater. I never visited the original location but have since been to several movies at this new spot and it's great! Spacious with state of the art accommodations. It's now in my regular theater rotation.

Vidiots is a great theatre plus video store. This is a piece of history and they even have a hallway of memories since they've been around (but relocated) since 1985. The theatre itself doesn't have fancy seats or anything, but it does the job. The video store seems to keep physical media alive and has nearly every genre you can think of. In addition to the regular theatre, they even have a mini theatre for smaller or private events. They show some great movies here, have vegan friendly concessions, like vegan popcorn with fun shaker toppings. +Bathrooms are clean +Parking is on the street/neighborhood, so not great but manageable +Staff is friendly and inclusive

Came here for a screening of Casper and loved the place. Very nice theatre (except the seats are too tight) with lots of seats, a food bar and an actual bar. I was really impressed with how many restrooms they had (all gender neutral) and how clean and tidy they were. Afterwards we walked next door to the video store and had fun browsing around, I love all the personalized signs made for categories. Employees were all very nice in the theatre and at the store. Street parking a plenty around here. Only a bit of a walk but sidewalks in residential areas are not ADA accessible so maybe drop off your friends and loved ones who may have difficulty and then go and park.

    Gender inclusive, accessible bathroom

This is a cute lil theater. I've only been here one time and I enjoyed myself. This does have a hipster vibe but without being pretentious. I imagine they show quite a bit of indie productions here. Giving this 5 stars specifically for the inclusive bathroom situation. I know it's random. I appreciate and want to acknowledge places that have gender-inclusive bathrooms. Even though I myself am not trans, I have friends who are and I like to pay attention to spaces that would make them feel comfortable and welcomed. Also, biiiig thumbs up for providing feminine supplies in the bathrooms as well.

Great screening of a great Fellini movie!

Vidiots rules! A great new addition to the current revival house renaissance going on in LA. Love looking through the video store but mostly go for the top notch screenings. Very good programming with frequent special guests. Also love getting a beer at the nice bar in the lobby. I've seen a lot there and I hope to see a lot more! It holds a special place in my heart as Vidiots in Santa Monica was the first video store I went to when I moved to LA over 20 years ago. Long live Vidiots!

Tickets are bought online and range in price. Astro turf seating is $13 per person or $20 for two. No car parking is included (so you have to park outside the event) and you have to bring your own chair or rent one from them. Early Bird Car Entry + Driver is $28 ($20 for the car fee, $8 for the driver). Additional passengers are $8 per person. VIP is $75 and covers 1 car and 4 people for front row seating (just behind the astro turf area). Doors open either an hour or an hour & a half before showtime. When we scoped out the place, there was a sign that said exactly when the doors were going to be opened in the driveway. Since we had time (we were a wee bit too early), we went around the corner to get some grub. When we came back, we were second in line roughly a half hour before opening. Not too shabby and I definitely recommend showing up early to get a good spot (unless you're a VIP fancy pants). The line formed shortly after and wrapped around to Central. Pro tip - don't be a jerkasaurus and try to cut in line! The employees do notice anyone trying to pull a fast one and will make you go to the back of the line. Electric Dusk Drive-In is located off of Central Ave and California Ave in the old Sears parking lot. You cannot turn left into the parking lot on California! You have to enter from Central so that you turn right into the lot and don't block traffic. It was entertaining seeing so many people not grasp this simple idea. Once inside, the employees will scan your tickets and direct you where to park. If you want to back up and watch from your trunk, tell them and they'll help you out. If you're worried about your car battery dying out - bring your own radio or you can rent a transistor radio from them. If you listen via your car radio and it dies, they'll help jumpstart your car after the show. For restrooms, they provide two porta potties in the back side along with a hand washing station. If you're feeling munchy, they have a concession stand near the entrance but I'd encourage just getting your food beforehand from any eatery around the area (The Great White Hut is directly across the street). If you're thinking about trying Electric Dusk Drive-In, stop thinking and just do it already! They have a wide variety of movies to choose from (some are double-features) so you're covered no matter your taste of genre. It's such a fun nostalgic night and I can't wait to go back!

Every Friday, I find myself here, slipping away from the noise of everyday life to just sit back and take it all in. There's this familiar, almost haunting feeling as I settle in, like the quiet echoes of a simpler time when life had fewer responsibilities and the weekends felt endless. It reminds me of the freedom of youth--those days when we'd get together just to laugh, talk, and sometimes just sit, high on life and each other's company. Coming here alone gives me space to think, and maybe I'm pining for something that's already slipped away. There's a beauty in watching everyone gathered, all ages connected in the moment of a shared movie under the open sky. Couples sit close together, holding hands behind the truck beds, while kids are practically bouncing as their parents grab popcorn and candy, their joy so pure and unrestrained. This place is a gem, perfect for unwinding, reflecting, or even sharing a quiet evening with someone special. The staff here are warm and attentive, and the food choices are simple but affordable. With plenty of room between cars, you get enough privacy to feel like you're in your own world but not so alone that you can't feel the presence of others sharing the night. It's a place to escape, to remember, and to take life just a bit slower
