    yeti or not show 9/7/2025
    Lucy M.

Had a great time a few weekends ago at the Yeti or Not improv show at the Elysian Theater. We waited in line outside starting around 6:45PM and were let inside around 7. The waiting area before we were able to go to the seating area is pretty warm, not least because of the fresh popcorn and all the bodies waiting inside, so it's not the most comfortable, but it was cooler inside the theater and the chairs were nice. We had a great time and I would love to come back for more shows the next time I'm in LA!

It's small yet noticeable place on Riverside Drive. The theater itself is pretty intimate. We could hear mid to back row audience member reply to the actors on stage while sitting in the front row. The Fuck June comedy night was amazing and full of laughter. It was a great way to end the month. There is street parking but it's a first come, first serve situation. The area seemed pretty safe and rather quiet. The bar had a small selection of non-alcoholic drinks, water, beer, and wine. 2 restrooms. Colorful and fun decor all around. There are some neighborhood eateries and bars nearby (within 5 min drive) so you can easily do an after show hangout! I'd be happy to go back when the opportunity arises!

I have driven passed this theater for so many years and never realized how intimate and nice it was. My friend hosted her annual holiday show here and it was perfect. The space itself is really cute. It's completely with a concession area, box office (indoors), and a small lobby holding area. At concession they sold snacks, sodas, wine, beer, etc. Staff was nice and helpful. I would definitely come back for another show.

Cool space (for what it is)! Of course the bathrooms could be a little newer and better maintained, and the seats are a bit worn down, BUT that is all part of the charm of a down and dirty performing arts space that is affordable and not all gentrified yet. Enjoy it while it lasts! Parking is FREE along the street in both directions. That's unheard of in LA. We've seen a bunch of top level comedians here for affordable prices. People like Chris Estrada, Frankie Quiñones, Moshe Kasher, and Marcella Arguello.

We love it here. Perfect little theater to see some of our favorite improv peeps. Love the location for optimal pre or post show eats.

Nice small theater in LA with a variety of offerings each week. It's a bit dated on the inside. Staff and talent were great.

This theater needs central AC. They only have two wall mounted units and for a packed show, it gets unbearably hot.

Nice hub of comedy. A cozy and inviting venue. If I lived closer to the theater I would come every week to a random show.

There are some stairs to get up, but it was very spacious and had a lively ambiance! The comedians were hilarious, and I could definitely see myself coming on consistent Tuesdays with a lineup like that! It felt more underground than the more mainstream comedy spots, which was refreshing & felt like the comedians were hungrier! The service was great, but my only complaint would be a lack of food options. I believe they only had popcorn and perhaps a pretzel. That definitely wasn't sufficient for me for the time we were there! But food aside, it was a great spot and I definitely see myself returning!

Ended up ordering some pizza and wings, to enjoy the comedians. Second time was a little better, hence the 4 stars. I think this place would be an amazing 5 star location, if they sold food. Customer service is okay, and they only had 1 server on hand. I wish they would have closed the rear windows by the reserved tables, it was raining and the back of my neck was getting wet. Overall, I'd give this place another try, I like the whole layout of the place, and the comedians are funny as hell. #1 Sell food That's it. Only downside.

The sound was fine and views seem good enough from just about every section, although I didn't go up on the balcony. The seats are small, as is the norm for theaters of this era. They were much more comfortable than other venues I have been to in the area. My only complaint was I am not sure the doors close (or there actually are any doors) from the (sumptuous) lobby, so sadly we could hear the staff from our seats. They were talking loudly by the doors to the orchestra area, super distracting. It was a live podcast, so probably not an issue if it's a loud concert. The beauty of this theater and it's history is the thing, and it makes for a memorable experience.

No long lines or congestion. Definitely recommend coming around an hour early if you want to get a drink, merch, and go to the bathroom before an 8pm show. We showed up at 7:30pm and barely made it through the doors at 8pm due to only 3 security lines. The line wrapped around the building down the street. I really appreciated the staff for managing the line and preventing line cutters. It was very exciting to see Lucy Darling and her right hand man, Mark. They were very funny and it was amazing to see them up close. The camera crew did great showing everything on the screen with subtitles and an ASL interpreter, but I still recommend getting seats as close as possible. I hope they come back!

There is something special about this heightened level of performance, which includes elaborate set design, masks, avant-garde costumes, and unique story-telling versus the traditional performance merely involving actors proclaiming rehearsed lines. This depth I speak of is encompassed with the Roque Artists whom evoke emotion using puppetry, masks, lighting/special effects, various media, and illusion to heighten all of your senses. This isn't your typical drama club. A product of graduates from the University of California; the Roque Artists are relatively new (founded in 2001) and yet have taken the theater world by storm... and they deserve the recognition. I had the honor of watching "Hyperbole" which implemented the aforementioned effects and it tickled my entire body. Hyperbole didn't include any "lines" and yet enticed and kept your attention for the entire hour and a half while also incorporating indie (think KCRW) music into the mix. The actors are passionate, talented, and convey such emotion without ever speaking a word. The most impressive is their talent with the puppets whom look so real in their actions (soft and personified versus a puppet on strings). One should certainly check out a Roque Artists performance if you want to spice up your traditional theatrical cup'o' joe. "Off with their heads!" is not something King Henry would have shouted had he seen this troupe perform.
