Very dry fish and shrimp, didn't even look like the picture

I felt like I came to a completely different seafood restaurant, total 180 from the one I used to love. This nightclub, sorry I mean restaurant is slowly going away from being a reputable seafood spot. Now it's just a bar to enjoy small bites and a beer so avoid it if you want to enjoy it with your family. We can't even talk! Now the food was the worst I've had! My fish which was pictured on the menu looked nothing like it! It was so dry, burnt and awful, the shrimp was also overcooked and rubbery, like who wants to eat that? I felt so bad asking for a new dish only because the server was nice and we already had to wait a long time for our food to be served. I feel like a lot of things are being overlooked when they are so focused on the loud karaoke singer and having those beers full. I will not come back, this place is now overrated. Once a gem in the area now just a dull rock! P.s. watch out when you pay, the itemized receipts are different when it comes to the tip.

On Friday August 15, 2025 we went to celebrate a birthday party in a party of 4 adults to the 22400 Hwy 249 location & enjoyed good food, with appetizers and one michelada for 3 of the 4 of us. When it came time for clearing the check, I had the waitress Giselle (Yosi M on the receipt) hold a machine to pay the tab in front of me and said sign. I asked how do I know how much or the tip and she said it will print after you sign and since the bill was over $150, tip was automatically added. I said really, how much and she said 15%. I signed and she printed a receipt right there at the table, off the machine & I guess she expected I couldn't do math & she walked away, paid. Immediately I saw our bill was not in fact over $150 it was $149.60 with tax. So I then factored 15% of that and saw the tip was not that but 25% of that; $37.40. So, Not $150 bill,not 15% tip! So I asked for a manager and Nancy came over at the hostess stand and we she asked we step outside to the entrance and I told her and showed her what happened. She mentioned upon seeing the bill & the added tip the waitress chose, that they don't add tips even to big parties or any size check. She also mentioned there had already been complaints about her adding tips to checks with thar waitress & just that day, they had reprimanded her about 3 similar complaints!! Not fired! The manager Nancy agreed it was a problem, went back to get a copy of the receipt and as she came back with that copy I saw she has cash for my refund of my tip I hadn't given, but it was cash, despite I paid with my debit card(). Then another customer came out, very upset and said that same waitress added a 40% tip without his approval and she had done it before to him and he wanted action. We were floored and as we were there now, 2 customers at the door exposing being ripped off with tips, then a man came out all in black and said "enough, she's out of here", huffed around a bit & went back in. Perhaps the GM?? I was given my tip back but in tip money, 1 ten, 3 fives, and 12 dollar bills... odd bill choice for a debit card tip refund. No offer to comp the bill. I sat there for a few minutes with our birthday party outside, watching the other ripped off customer, who seemed he had a few drinks, getting real pissed. We left it looked like it was going to be a much bigger scene about to break with that. Now the next day, we have to wonder; Why the refund with tip money, is it for no paper trail with the credit card receipts?? It happened to us and another customer at the same time and that's not coincidence, plus he said it happened to him before there. What? This has happened tonight and before and the waitress Gisele (aka Yosi M from Guatemala) is still there!!??!!?? That quick show by the possibly general manager was great, but he didn't offer to comp a meal, didn't get involved and was simply there for a minute maybe 2 with 2 customers that just got ripped off by his staff. He went right back in and his momentary appearance was simply that, momentary. No apology, no pleas come back, not much but a bit of a huff in a so so cameo appearance.... Is this a scheme involving more than the waitress? How often has this happened? Are ALL their customers checking their receipts and tips? Very disturbing and now, I'm concerned about the machine at the table the waitress used to scan my card and pay herself a better tip! She was going to probably get 20%, she chose 25% in my case, 40% with the other customer but he had been drinking and maybe she thought she was an easier mark... Does La Vida Seafood know this is happening ing, what about Los Cucos next door run by the same company? Does the owner know his staff is allowing multiple instances at this location of stealing from customers? Are they stealing from him or just loosing his customers? Very troubling!

Pescado al vapor with jicama and fried rice upgrade

Great ambiance, service was professional, ordered the Pescado al vapor, was tasty! Would consider coming back for another Saturday night.

This is a regular stop for us and I was surprised to see I hadn't previously left a review. It's a big boisterous place with a big bar, a couple of covered outdoor seating areas and plenty of indoor seating with an elevated stage. It gets quite busy at peak times and sometimes there's a bit of a wait, especially for larger groups, which the tend to attract. The seafood is consistently very good and the non seafood items are up to standard as well. Favorites include Fish Plays Azul, Seafood all Vapor and Mango Fish. Their ceviche is very good as well. They have some nice lunch specials that aren't on the dinner menu, and it is a bit quieter in the afternoon. Lots of big screen TVs with a focus on soccer /futbol. The service is good for such a busy place; the wait staff hustles and does a pretty good job of keeping up. Generally fairly noisy at night with folks celebrating birthdays, etc. If you want a bit more quiet, choose the outdoor patio. Karaoke night are pretty crazy but good fun. Evenings they also some times have strolling mariachi musicians as well. Our pet name for Vida is "The Crazy Mexican Fish Place" which kind of captures it all. We have been many times and have never been disappointed.

I went last weekend with my brother and it was lovely. Their Halloween decor was photo worthy and I love their ambience. Reminds me of beach I always get their large house shrimp fried rice and it's perfect for 2 people. Do ask for habanero if you like it a little spicy. Also, they had some great alcoholic and virgin drinks to try. I would definitely go again and again.

This place is big! Lots of space for seating and outdoor seating that is covered. Sucks bathroom is far away is my only complaint. Food was excellent and very authentic. I love aguachiles which is hard to find and one that tastes authentic as if you were in Playa De Carmen. Micheladas were good and I recommend as well. The basic and the fancy one too. Fish tacos are delicious and not fishy. They come with the best refried black beans and homemade corn tortillas. The beef quesadillas are so delicious. The beef is perfect also aligns with the queso flameado which is just as good if you add beef to it as well again comes with homemade corn tortillas which you don't find everywhere. That the only dish that was not liked in my visit was the chipotle shrimp that comes on the Delmar plate, which is shrimp and beef (surf and turf) Other than that, everything else was delicious I can't wait to be back. I just wanna make sure I don't go when the band is there that is too loud for me but if you like the band, they have it on the weekends about 9 PM so it should be a party But when I was there they had mariachis which were very good. We actually stayed to listen to them after we closed out. If you're expecting chips and salsa, this place does not do that. They serve you warm bread and butter. No complaints about the service. Everything was on point.

We came here for a business lunch on Tuesday two weeks ago, and had a solid experience! My group was able to get seated immediately and without a reservation, which was nice. The hostess was very friendly, and Lucy did a great job taking care of us as our waitress. As for the food, it was delicious! Definitely recommend the guacamole as an appetizer. The fish was fresh, and everything was brought out warm. The only thing I would say is for the mojarra frita, it is a lot of fish to peel with small fish bones inside the fish. I would probably get the shrimp the next time instead. Overall though, it was a great experience!

I remember visiting this location about a year ago and enjoying it, so decided to visit again. This turned out to be the last time I ever go back. I ordered the beef fajitas, which is a pretty basic dish. They somehow managed to be hot and cold at the same time. The fajitas were all burned on the outside but cold and rubbery on the inside, as though they had been reheated from earlier in the day. The tortillas were hard and just fell apart in your hands as you picked them up. Asked for new tortillas and they brought the "fresh" ones pictured. Never going back nor do I recommend.

Been here soooo many times! Never disappoints!! My top favorites are the shrimp botana and ceviche. The red sangria and margaritas are sooooo good as well!! Bar service is always on point. They do have live music on weekend nights and can get very busy so always try to get there early!!!! read more

So happy I finally got a chance to come here! This place is always packed so it must be good right? YESSSSSS. Ok so let's start by saying, the moment you walk in you know you are at an authentic Mexican restaurant by the music, the vibes, and the smells. We ordered the raw oysters for appetizers they were extremely well priced and FRESH. Before that arrived we got carrots and warm baked bread. The bread was soft and freshly made and the carrots were good with a spicy kick. I split the MOLCAJETE (for 2), MORE LIKE for 4! It included beef fajitas, chicken fajitas, huge grilled shrimp, queso fresco, fried rice, refried black beans and pico de gallo. The flavor in every single item that I just listed was amazing! We got the flour tortillas and they were homemade and so good. The price made me think it would only feed 2, but it could of fed 3-4 people in total. This places lived up to the hype and the prices were right. I'm ready to go back and try some of their other dishes. Overall, I highly recommend trying this place out. read more

Very busy Saturday night. Loved the food we ordered. I had tostados and my had soup. We started with the empanadas. The crab got lost in the empanadas but loved their pasty. Oh and the drinks were fab! We will be back! There is ample parking and lots of TVs with sports. read more

Decided to give this play a try. Menu is very extensive which is nice. We were thrown off by the dinner rolls and no tortilla chips and salsa offered. We started with the fajita beef queso flameado which was wonderful. My husband chose the fajita beef tacos and I had the cazuela de mariscos. My husband loved his tacos but they came with Asian fried rice. Once again, strange. My bowl of seafood goodness was wonderful. I would definitely order again. The atmosphere was not very inviting though. There was a mariachi three-man band playing, which would have been nice, except they literally were standing two tables away from us in the restaurant area with portable speakers. It made it impossible to talk to each other and impossible to hear our poor waitress through her mask. We assumed when we sat down that they were moving throughout the restaurant, but no. They stayed there the whole entire time. Then it started raining (not their fault) but there were raindrops coming down from the roof and also a flood of water coming in from the outside. Will we go back. Yes. But we will avoid the music section. read more

I was not expecting to have such good mariscos in Houston. I was pleasantly surprised with this place. Authentic Mexican seafood. I had the mangonada and it was delicious. The fish tacos were made with "tortillas hechas a mano". My family members got the molcajete with surf and turf. I was worried that we were going to get weak service based on the reviews, but our waitress was awesome. She was attentive and sweet. I wish I could give this place 4.5 stars, but Yelp doesn't do that. Looking forward to coming back. read more

Do not try the oysters! They are farm raised and have no flavor! Do not even try their $15 special margaritas! Overpriced and not even great! We sat at the bar and the girls at the bar are too busy gossiping then serving their customers! We've had the ceviche before and it was good, they are definitely losing the good taste! I went yesterday like a new customer we some questions then we ordered the bill should be only $33 plus some cents I cannot remember bec the cashier told how much it is but when she turned the monitor the us is $38 plus and I notice the tip percentage is already been press by the cashier that's why the total $38plus. it's like telling me that i need to pay extra Bec I asked questions. I always give tip but it's my choice how much is it and it my right to press the tip percentage because my money. I will not comeback in this restauran. read more

First time trying out the food and it was delicious!! Will definitely be one of our go to spots. Beware though! I didn't get my credit card back and I know they didn't place it in with my receipt because I would have seen it and grabbed it. I've never left a card in a restaurant ever. I called the next day when I couldn't find my card. They had it. I went to go get it and had to wait because another customer was waiting for her card. The restaurant had 4-5 huge stacks of credit cards in their register!! Not sure how far these misplaced cards go but I got a clear picture that somehow the servers forget to place your card back when they drop off your signed receipt. Yes it's our responsibility to make sure we grab our card but it's also the restaurant's responsibility to return it. So I highly recommend this restaurant for their awesome food but I would advise you all to make sure you grab your card!! read more

I stumbled upon this gem one day while I was working in the Houston area. I was on the hunt for some seafood enchiladas and boy did this place fit the bill. Very reasonably priced, and everything was so authentic and fresh! Flour tortillas filled with crab meat, shrimp and topped with a heavenly creamy seafood sauce. The entree came with black beans and fried rice. The special fried rice is seriously something special, it has bacon in it. The flavor profile is so unique and delicious. One time that I went there I had a problem with my bill. The girl taking my order didn't speak very good English and there were some communication issues, however the manager quickly resolved the issue and all was well. I dream about that special fried rice, and I am certainly going to try to replicate it. This is a great place to try. read more

Saturday night here was the best. The vibe, the music, the service and the food were great. My wife had a Michelada de mango and she loved it. The Mojarra I ate was fried perfectly. Better than most places I've had it before. Definitely recommend this place. read more

The service was quick! They start you off with wonderful fresh bread and butter. My drink was delicious and it came quickly. We did have to wait a bit for the food which is understandable. They forgot my rice but once I i formed then it came promptly. The fish was HUGE, it was delicious. Could use a bit more seasoning tho. Also I feel like the extra stuff they put on the plate is just so unnecessary and overwhelming. read more

Felt like for some seafood today 09-25-2020, haven't been here in awhile due to the pandemic. Maybe should of just gone to Los Cucos that's our usual Friday night spot. Well since restaurants are allowed to operate at 75%, the wait staff couldn't even keep up. Hopefully service doesn't get worse at full capacity. Where do I start, the Fish Playa Azul had no flavor what so ever a little salt and pepper for grilled fish gives a little flavor (Hint, Hint) cooks. My wife's plate the Carne Margarita which is under the chef's special, well come on chef a little seasoning on the meat goes a long way, no flavor as well. The best thing of the night was the micheladas and the margaritas. Thank you!! read more

My mom and I stumbled upon this place looking for the Jason's deli. We both got a cup a gumbo and a small special fried rice to share. The cup of gumbo is the size of a large gumbo elsewhere. It is delicious and taste like a cross between a seafood gumbo and a bisque. The special fried rice is crazy delicious too with bacon, shrimps & chicken. I am so glad we stopped here! read more

Always always my hubbies and my favorite place to dine and have drinks! Hands down the Mangonadas are delicious and on point! We typically have hust fish n friwd Shrimp! The Rice is tasty too! Fridays and Wknds tend to get super packed so got before 800pm! However live Music on Fridays and Saturdays make itnand Epic Party!! read more

The worse management, Claudia is very unhelpful, she was drunk while she was working, the service is getting worse every time and they don't take their job seriously. The one time I spoke to the manager she was drunk and very unprofessional. Love their food but can't keep on coming. Their customer service is a joke. read more

I started getting into micheladas because of this restaurant. A friend of mine suggested it and he was not wrong! Micheladas are in another level. I've been trying them in several restaurants and no one has beat this one yet. The have really good food and prices are affordable for seafood meals. I have gotten a salad bowl with chicken and stuffed chicken, both meals have impressed me. I believe the place could be better, but the food and micheladas outweighs the atmosphere. I'm very disappointed in the management / owner of this restaurant!! I visited this restaurant for the first time last week with a friend and we commented that it was similar to Mambos but more expensive. I ordered the 6 jumbo shrimp with fried rice for just under $10.00. I went back today and wanted to order it again but couldn't find it on the menu. The waitress found it for me on the menu. It was on the right side of the menu. Last week it as on the left side that's why I couldn't find it. I looked closer and the price had changed as well. That dish went from just under $10.00 to $12.99. I was shocked. I could not believe my eyes. The comment I made to the waitress was that they had not even been open two months and they already increased their prices. If I'm going to pay 13.00 for 6 jumbo shrimp and fried rice they could at least provide cloth napkins instead of paper towels left on the table and the waitresses could at least dress better than shorts and t-shirts. Since this restaurant is in a nice area, I feel they felt they could raise prices by $3.00. I feel taken advantage of. I will not be returning. VERY OVER PRICED....NOW! read more

We visited Vida Mariscos on Valentine's Day, hoping for a great experience, but it was disappointing. On the plus side, parking was ample and easy, which was a relief. However, once inside, the atmosphere was overwhelming--the mariachi band was blaring in our ears, making it impossible to have a conversation. This probably led to miscommunication, as my daughter's kids' chicken fajita taco order somehow turned into a full fajita platter instead. I ordered the Coconut Mojito, expecting a creamy, tropical drink, but it was watery and lacked the richness I've had at other places. For my main course, I got the Vuelve a la Vida (fish, shrimp, stuffed shrimp, stuffed jalapeños, hush puppies, and rice). The rice portion was tiny, the hush puppies were cold, and overall, the meal was unimpressive. To top it off, the worst part was the automatic 20% gratuity charge, simply because it was Valentine's Day. We had no choice in the matter, which felt unfair given the poor service and food quality. This place used to be great, but it's gone downhill. Between the food, noise, and sneaky charges, I doubt we'll return anytime soon. read more

My husband and I ate here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch. They didn't have a lunch menu so we split an appetizer Camarón (shrimp cocktail) and an entrée Pollo Del Mar (grilled chicken Brest stuffed with shrimp. Also, you have to pay for soda per bottle. As soon as we ordered our food the waitress brought us 2 rolls with butter. About 5 minutes later our appetizer and entree arrived at the same time. Which was odd but we were surprised by how fast it was cooked. The cocktail glass had a large chip in it, so we asked for a new one (just incase it was freshly chipped, didn't want any broken glass in our cocktail) the manager apologized and took care of the dish quickly. The food was pretty good and was fresh. The sauce on the chicken tasted like crab bisque and delicious! We also had to wait about 20 minutes cause their system was down and they couldn't print our check to pay. This place is suppose to be a sports bar, but didn't seem to have a lot of "bar food" on the menu. But I would like to come back and on a weekend evening. read more

Fourth times a charm, right? Just walked out to witness a brother trying to break into our F250... this is the fourth time! Stay away from this retail center. Luckily due to timing we scared them off before they could get behind the plate on the door (put there due to the last time it got broken into in this parking lot) and most importantly lucky we weren't armed (because THE TIME BEFORE LAST when broke in in that parking lot where they stole a pistol, we no longer leave a gun in our truck) because I would be on the news right now instead of at home putting out this PSA. Each time I've tried to reach management to give them an opportunity to try some type of security measure as a deterrent to no avail. Was skeptical at first because the menu has variety from paella to Mexican ceviches but ordered the chicken plate filled with shrimp n cheese and it was pretty good. The rice was tasty and it's served with a shrimp bisque that got cold pretty quick (it was approximately 60f that night) It was close to midnight and there was a festive environment. All I can say is AMAZING FOOD. Been there three times and each time tried something different and couldn't believe how insanely delicious it was each time. I wanted to speak to the head Chef (yes they actually hired a Chef to create the menu and recipes) to let him know the ceviche was the best I had ever eaten in my life.
