Oh my goodness! This is a family-owned restaurant and it is simply the best! Upon walking in we were greeted and seated with menus. The food was amazing and everything was cooked to order. So, if you are in a hurry then isn't for you. It is cooked to order and comes out fresh homemade food. It is filled with history and family oriented. They also have a little store to the side where you can purchase homemade apple butter which my husband purchased 2 quart jars. I love this place! It's a must-stop and supports local businesses . Thanks, everyone here for an amazing meal and good old-fashioned family-friendly loving hospitality! I'd give more than 5 stars if I could!

Arrived a half hour before closing on Sunday. Beautiful older building with lovely interior. Still about 3/4 full when we were seated. Quiet overall and plenty of room to move around with your chair. I had the omelet aka victory and it was just average. A bit dry and could not taste all the ingredients or distinguish them individually. The potatoes would have been better if there were some onions cooked in. Iced tea was weak or diluted. My partner had shrimp and grits. She never had cornbread in the form of a pancake and really enjoyed it. The shrimp and grits were plentiful and tasty. She shared some with me and I agree. Next time I return I think I will order scrambled eggs with cheese and meat on the side instead of an omelet.

Great little restaurant. Had a chicken sandwich that was most excellent. The server was very nice and refilled our drinks regularly.

This restaurant is in a White House with a front porch. We had the fish fry on the Friday special. Perfectly prepared perch, with home made coleslaw and homemade tartar sauce. Fish was quite delicious. Hush puppies were slightly sweet. Dinner included fish, fries, hush puppies, drink and dessert. Peach cobbler was superb. Lots of peaches, served hot. They are only open 5-8 on some evenings because they are mainly a breakfast and lunch place, closing at 2. We waited in a short line at about 4:45 to get in and it was well worth the wait. Check facebook for specials.

Absolute heaven. The 4 of us were all incredibly happy with our food and the service. I got the shrimp and grits - big portion of creamy comfort-food goodness. Then, I shared an extremely delicious pancake. We will definitely be back!! Highly recommend.

This place seems to be the talk of the town and it comes highly recommended from anyone that's been here so naturally I had to try it. Everywhere around this part of North Carolina requires a drive it seems, fortunately for me I was staying next door at the AVF MotorCoach Resort close enough to walk but not this early in the morning. The wooden porch gives this place a certain nostalgic kinda feel this feeling continues when you walk through the door and photos doesn't do it justice - it's definitely one of those places that prides itself for its home cooking and time seems to stand still once you find your seat. The staff is very friendly and they wear many hats and share the duties so chaos is not out of the question, they clean the tables, take the orders, work the cash register and disappear into the kitchen often, only to reappear carrying plates of food table to table looking for the table that matches the food in hand. When a restaurant reaches legendary status complacency can become the norm no matter the frustrations by the customers they will continue to come I will say the quality of the food is outstanding but expect to wait for it each dish is prepared to order one order at a time the kitchen is not known for its ability to multitask. We ordered eggs, country ham, grits, hash browns and biscuits with coffee. The coffee is really good and I drank plenty of it, the wait was excruciating as I watched one plate at a time come from the kitchen and we had at least a dozen people ahead of us - once the plates arrived everything was perfect and delicious and the staff although unapologetic are really friendly and professional and the prices are moderate I wouldn't mind paying a few extra bucks for a meal if this would improve the wait time and get them fully staffed. There's no doubt I will return when staying in the area so I guess it is what it is...

This place is so cute! It's sort of like a house that's been converted into a restaurant so it has that homey feel. Loved the breakfast potatoes here. I'm not a huge breakfast food person but my group loved everything they got!

Excellent Local spot. Avoid the chains and eat real food here. Food is actually cooked and locally sourced.

Overpriced for what we got for breakfast which was okay. But nothing to return again for the quality.

There were maybe 3 other people sitting there when I arrived. I ordered the chef salad with Balsamic Vinaigrette dressing and the Turkey Melt which I had once before and recall it being THE best melt I ever had. When I got my salad, it had ranch dressing. I asked the waitress what was the dressing and she said, it's our special made ranch dressing, it's sooo good. I said 'I ordered balsamic vinaigrette', she said 'oh my, you're right, we'll get this fixed for you'. Oh well, I thought it was simple. When I got the Turkey Melt, it was so messed up, I could not EVEN pick it up, it was sliding off the panini. I had a guy sitting next to me who could not even order a pizza. He didn't know what his choices were. When the waitress told him his options, he said ' wait a minute, I have to make a call'. He was talking to someone about what he could have on his pizza. When the waitress came back, he couldn't remember what he wanted, finally he just said 'I just want cheese'. Then this couple at the end of the bar are SO loud, everyone is looking at them. They were locals because the kept talking about local stuff. Then as more people came in, they all went to the end of the bar to see this couple and all of a sudden it felt like a party. I was enjoying the HDTV, it had the golf Channel, ESPN and CNBC all at the same time, three of my favs' Then the sound of rolling THUNDER and all the channels went blank. It was more than I could deal with, I ask for my bill and a go box.

The host came back and said there wouldn't be a problem as long as it was an inside table. When the waitress arrived with the water we asked her for two Bloody Marys and we went to serve ourselves from the buffet Food was delicious starting with the omelette station and the rest of the items including the prime rib. The drinks never arrived and the waitress never came back with water, she actually never came to our table, we had to ask for water to the busser same for the check. I am not sure what their system is but looks chaotic since you help yourself to the food it should be fairly easy to assign zones or tables to each server. We walked out to the veranda and came back in the building to seat in the lounge where a pianola was on auto play, really nice environment that takes you back a few decades. Margret was our server somehow I don't think this was by accident I had met her a few days earlier at the hotel bar - she has been here for years and years and some of our friends have been enjoying her amazing personality and high level service for a decade or more. Once seated she offered to put our drink orders in while we explored the feast laid out in the adjoining room, the drinks are made at the hotel bar but they have a table set up to allow you to customize your specialty drinks i.e. Bloody Mary's are amazing before any modifications. The food was simple but elegantly displayed, the quality of the product was exceptional and the preparation was very creative and professional. I started at the omelette station two burners and a limited selection of ingredients but all delicious and being I'm not a veggie guy the meats and cheese exceeded my expectations. The neighboring stations were both carving stations, beef and ham both cooked to the perfect temperature and very tender and flavorful - yes I made two trips. I tried a few of the other sides trying my best to stay away for the carbohydrates that most of the side dishes bring with them. Well as much will power and restraint that I have it all slowly eroded away each time I passed the dessert table. The chocolate fountain surround by sliced pineapple, strawberries and cubes of moist cake, lemon and chocolate pies, cheese cake, chocolate cake, cookies and omg peach cobbler - trust me you can gain a few pounds just by being close to this table. The service was spectacular and the total package price is ridiculously reasonable - I don't think you need to lower your expectations to throughly enjoy this brunch but you do need to keep things in perspective this is a small community and this nostalgic hotel / restaurant puts it all out there so enjoy...

My Smokehouse Burger was not only massive, but also dripping with BBQ flavor, with the crisp onion rings adding a delicious texture to the perfectly cooked patty. My wife enjoyed the restaurant's signature Riverwatch Burger -- a more traditional choice that was just as large and almost as delicious. Riverwatch says it serves the best burgers in North Carolina, and it's hard to argue with that claim. There are nearly two dozen different burgers on the menu, and they all look amazing. If burgers aren't your thing, the restaurant also serves salads, sandwiches, hot dogs and other fare. But they're famous for their burgers, so find one that fits your taste and dive in. The beer selection here is also terrific, with a number of local and regional NC crafts on tap and in bottles. And the service on our recent visit was outstanding. Seating is available outside or on the spacious deck overlooking the Broad River, which is a great place to enjoy a good meal and a fantastic view of the Hickory Nut Gorge and the distinctive Chimney Rock, towering high above the valley. Like much of this area, Riverwatch endured traumatic damage during Hurricane Helene, but reopened in September 2025. Well worth the drive from anywhere in North or South Carolina!
