I should clarify before I begin, this review is only for breakfast. We were not able to have lunch as they only serve breakfast on Sundays. Got seated pretty quickly, though there was a large line of larger parties waiting. Took about 10 minutes to order, though they were busy so I can't fault them for that. I had the Canadian Special with a side of challah toast and sausage, and my wife had an omelet with rye toast. When our food finally came there was a lot of confusion as to whether or not it was our food or another table's food. Then we noticed that neither of us got the toast we ordered, though we were assured it was. For the food, the eggs were very overcooked and thin. The potatoes were okay. The sausage was very bland and overcooked, almost dry. The french toast was decent; nice and thick. Wife's omelet was okay. She said the "rye" bread tasted like whole wheat. I felt bad for out waitress, she was very clearly trying her hardest and had too many tables to take care of. I plan to come back and try lunch (what I was hoping to get originally), but won't be back for breakfast. read more

If you're looking for a calm, comfortable, homey feeling this place is for you! Staff were very friendly and came throughout to check for coffee! I loved how they weren't coming every 5-minutes to check on how the food was, making jt feel like home. Very relaxing spot and the food is fantastic! Quaint spot but service is slower as there's only 1 cook and 1 server. Our server was friendly though & we weren't in a hurry. However, we were disappointed with the food. Cinnamon roll is more like a small loaf of cinnamon bread, the bacon was very greasy with no crispiness & had a strange flavor. The french toast was too doughy, and low quality. The service was even worse. Our waitress only approached our table a few times and we were not able to ask for things like hot sauce or ketchup because of it. Eventually our friend had to get up and walk to the kitchen to ask because we waited for a while, and they laughed and called her 'needy'. Eventually was brought what we asked. Perhaps the slowest service we've had in years. Pretty straight forward order - 3 omelettes, 2coffee and 1 hot chocolate. The initial coffee and hot chocolate made it to the table within 10 minutes. Refills were about as rare as unicorns. The restaurant was less than 50% capacity - still can't figure it out. Kind of a bummer, because we had heard so much good about this place but I can't recommend it because after an hour we had to go and never got our omelettes. By far, the worst service I have had. Quite often I find myself ordering omelette's however when I have tried the lunch menu it did not disappoint me. The only downside to Vicktorias Kitchen is the chance that if you come on a very busy day, perhaps welcome weekend up at MTU you may have to wait a bit for your food. Stopped here for breakfast on our first day and we already decided we will be back at least one more time before we leave. The food was fantastic. I had the Canadian Combo with a slice of French toast, eggs and some toast. All of the breads are homemade here. My son had the Finnish Pancake and wasn't thrilled to share bites of it with the rest of us. It was delicious. I highly recommend this spot for breakfast. Really sad to have had such a bad experience here. I have come here 3 times now and have regretted it each time. The service is always awful, rude, and accountability is never taken from them. Being that I work in a restaurant, I'm a little more patient and understand things happen but when It's hard to get the servers attention for refills on coffee or anything really, it can be really frustrating. She walked passed us multiple times without checking on us. Only half of our food was brought out and we were never told if/when the rest would be out. When my friend finally went up to ask for hot sauce and ketchup she was called needy. The food itself was not very good and wish it could have been better. I just had my worst dining experience ever at Victoria's Kitchen in Houghton. It's a busy day, lot of outsiders in town, so I called ahead to check on the wait and was told 10-15 minutes. Finding that reasonable, we arrived between 12:00 and 12:05 (busy time) and it turned out that the wait was shorter than anticipated. We were seated by 12:10; so far, so good. We quickly got our order in and then relaxed. And relaxed. And observed. And wondered. After 90 minutes, people who came in after we ordered had already eaten and left so I tracked someone down to check on our order. We didn't get an explanation (presumably our order had somehow gotten lost in the busyness of the day), but when our food finally arrived the cook/owner came out from the kitchen and chewed us out for complaining, saying that there was no way we had been there for 90 minutes (at which point it had been an hour and 40; even had phone calls and photos texted from inside the restaurant to prove it). So, instead of an apology we got crapped on. It was at this point that I realized that this is no longer a "these people are having a bad day" situation, but rather a "these people are batsh*t crazy and we should never come here again" situation. I cannot recommend Victoria's to anyone. read more

We came her for breakfast. We will be back tomorrow morning before leaving town. The food and customer service was incredible. My wife ordered a Denver Omelet and I ordered the morning special 2 eggs potatoes and toast. I added bacon too. What we got: the sever omelet had fresh perfectly grilled peppers and onions and the best cheese. The Mrs says it might be her best served omelet ever. The bread is freshly made with homemade with sides of homemade honey butter and jam. The bacon was just to our liking too. My eggs were great but I really enjoyed the perfect potatoes. Diced up chunks of baked potatoes grilled and served with her secret seasoning. Really good! The thick cut bacon was served not limp but not over crisp either. I've been coming here my entire life. Vicki really takes care of her people, if you pay attention she has regular customer that have come everyday for YEARS (even decades some of them). There is an elderly community near by and they love coming here because she treats them so well. She also has several dogs that will come and stop in front of her shop for a treat that she has for them. The food has always been amazing, I enjoy the J&N Omelette, Canadian Combo, St. Petersburg beef, Siberian Chicken (Or Turkey), motherearth salad, I could go on and on! She is very accommodating to food allergies, and this is the top place in the Houghton area for vegetarian/vegan options. I notice that a couple people who'd written reviews and critique the food. However, they really need to read the description for the item before they order it. (IE the J&N Omelette and Fiesta Omelette's come in pastry shell and eggs/ingredients are scrambled and held in the shell) read more

Victoria's Kitchen is a great little breakfast spot and deli in the old Marie's Kitchen location. They do have a room in the back for large groups but call ahead to reserve it. All the fruits and jams are grown on a nearby farm. There is a gift store off to the side full of Finnish candies - a real hidden gem for the locals. The waitresses were really friendly and joked with us. We had the soup, salad and 2 sandwiches. They were all great and we will definitely return. read more
