Rarely get to give a 5 star review but my experience at River West was wonderful. The office staff…read moreand maintenance crew were friendly and helpful. The park is very quiet and kept clean. It has security and someone is available on site for those coming in after hours or who may need assistance. The long term stay area has a community full of nice and respectful people, which gives the park a nice, safe, and friendly neighborhood feel. The spaces offer a good sized lot with parking, and many have fences for pets and privacy. Most all have mature trees among them. There's a nice, shady, grassy area to enjoy a picnic or for lounging, a patio area for sitting and enjoying the view of the Truckee River and Idlewild Park. It's located close to everything Reno has to offer. Whether you just need a space for the night or somewhere to stay a little longer, this park really is a hidden gem for those wanting a friendly, conveniently located, peaceful and quiet stay.

Can't say enough great things about this little hidden gem…read more My hubby and I usually book our campsites as we go based on our eta, weather, pit stops, etc. As hubby drove yesterday, I looked on Yelp and found a little site just outside of Reno along the river that looked promising. I tried to book online but it wouldn't let me so I called the number and spoke to a very pleasant woman who took my reservation over the phone and even offered me a first responder discount! Upon arrival, they were set up for after hours check in and very organized and timely. Chris, the security officer guided us right to our site and was very pleasant. Our site was a premium river side set up that did not disappoint! We backed up to the river with lush trees and greenery all around. There's a beautiful patio with chairs, tables and Edison string lights overlooking the river where we would sip our drinks after a long day of traveling and watch the geese and ducks in the river. There's also a couple of benches and fire pits established for campers to use. There are long term residents throughout the park, and some sites are pretty close together so we were very lucky to have gotten a premium, roomy luxurious site at last minute. We definitely recommend paying the little extra for a river front site. Site 11 & 12 are the best! PS: the staff is very responsive to texts and questions and they were a delight!

We didn't have time for the whole weekend or else we would of headed back to Mammoth. I forgot how long of a drive it was from the highway, and the scenery wasn't as I remembered.... I think last weekend spoiled my point of view ( higher elevation and gorgeous mountains at Mammoth).... We stopped at Lunker and Snallygaster. Nothing and nothing... (I forgot to grab the rod holder).. hubby won't let me live that one down)... We got to Turkey point and it was much nicer. As we were unloading and started to walk down to the bank another two trucks pulled up. They were friendly with kids, and a huge German Shepherd! Glad he was on a leash. Out of 7 rods in the water and a few boats passing, no one had either a bite or a fish. An hour and half oases and another big group arrives and scatters. I was ready to go, didn't feel like the fish were hungry(but I was)!... I was really impressed with the bathrooms. Extremely clean and sufficient Tp!

Water levels are lower than I remember, but it was nice to take a trip down memory lane. Every Summer, my parents drove their RV and I watched from the top bunk. My brothers and I could never stay in our seats. My parents never knew what we were up to. We always booked the same block of camping sites and we invited three other family's every year. The old tires swings on the cottonwood trees were always a hit with us kids and staying up late catching June bugs, telling scary stories around a campfire and roasting marshmallows for smores. It was cool showing my kids where my parents brought us camping.

It's freezing for me so no thank you LOL. We have been camping at this lake for about 15 years now. There are many ways to camp here. There are tons of beaches that you could just Camp with tents or trailers/RV right on the beach or they have some improved camp sites with designated camping spaces. The price is around $8 a night. The first time we came here, it was completely flooded out. We stayed in the improved campgrounds, and over a few days the water came all the way up to our trailer and about a week later it was completely covering the trailer tires. After a year or two, the water level started to recede, and the lake seemed to be drying up. And after a few years we saw a pattern of flooding and then drying up. We tend to camp at this lake mostly when it is flooded. The water seems much cleaner, and there's so much more of it LOL.

(A coffee shop [Coffee Connexion] is just up the way, an easy walk in the morning.) That said, the site is very close to the road, so it's noisy, even at night. Earplugs recommended for a good night's sleep. The road quiets down considerably in the middle of the night, but that doesn't mean the occasional cargo truck won't come roaring by. The facilities are good, with restrooms and showers conveniently located. The men's restroom ran out of paper towels by Sunday evening, but was restocked by Monday afternoon. The showers cost quarters: minimum 50 cents for 5 min (although I times it twice, and it goes closer to 6 or 6 1/2 minutes). There are no lights at the site, except for at the restroom, so have flashlights or headlamps. There are bear boxes to stow food and smellies overnight and while you're away (bring a lock for when you're away). You can't wash dishes at the site spigots or the bathroom, so have an alternate dishwashing plan. The spigot provide good drinking water. Overall, nice campsite. I'd be willing to return.

I wanted a real camping trip. However being my first trip I shortly realized that I actually really liked that fact. We were able to pick up the things we didn't bring and it was so great. It's not a very busy town so I still felt like we were camping in the woods. The campgrounds themselves are great. We stayed at site 19 and it was facing the parking lot and like I said I was initially upset but honestly I loved the spot. It has a water spout right next to it, a short walk to the pier and if you're paddlboarding a short walk to get into the water. (Just know that you'll be walking on a short rocky path so sturdy sandals or water shoes will be helpful) It's also close to a coffee shop and I spent almost every day waking up for sunset and then getting a coffee right after. Such a peaceful experience. The check in process is very easy. The majority of the campsites had pros to their location and the area is so beautiful that if you don't like your spot, you'll be too busy with activities to care. The restrooms are clean and always stocked. They have showers that cost $1 for 10 minutes or 50¢ for 5 mins. The campsites have a fire pit to make your s'mores as well as grills to make food. They have food lockers and some have locking capabilities so bring a lock just in case. They also offer 10$ bundles of firewood. Some spots don't have too much shade and some have no shade over the picnic benches so having a canopy was so helpful especially since the sun can be very strong. Make sure to bring a hammock and sunscreen!

It's a nice campground , close to the stampede…read morereservoir so you just walk down to the water and can swim in it, and plus the drive to this campground is so beautiful, I was mesmerized the whole drive to and from. Just a few things to remember if you decide to camp here though: 1. You can have campfires with the pit, but you will need to bring your own firewood as the camp was sold out when we went and from what we were told by other campers there, they said it was $22 for the firewood. So be prepared to bring your own. 2. It's a bit of hike to get to the water plus if you want to go somewhere more flat and you are coming from the campground you may find yourself walking far to the other side , so keep in mind what you bring and what time you decide to go down to the water 3. There are deers that you may see, even this past weekend that I went , a deer was right by our campsite and close to our tent. 4. If you are tent camping or don't have a trailer and you are to use the bathrooms here.. beware it is pretty gnarly , so when booking a site you may want to be a little away from the bathroom as it does smell pretty bad even from a distant and you will also want to bring your own TP as they always are out by the end of the day into the next morning 5. Regardless if it is summer, bring yourself a jacket and be prepared for the cold , especially if you are tent camping. It get cold here at night and early morning. I was surprised also based off of someone elses review that they said they got talked to by the camp hosts/ ranger , because when we went this camp site on the other side of us were blasting their music and partying all the way till 2am without consequences , so maybe they have became more lenient. But for those that want a quiet camp experience if you are tent camping and don't have a trailer or camper to block out the noise, just be cautious that the sites are pretty close together and you will hear everything especially those that are partying while camping. Overall , I did enjoy this campground and happy to say I had my first woods camping trip here after a long time of not camping in the woods.

The ground is pretty level, reasonably shaded, plenty of fun spots to stop for a snack or break, and there is no real elevation gain, which is what makes it perfect for the youngins. My 2.5 yr old loved every second of it and my 5 year old enjoyed thinking he was in charge of the adventures, and I was just happy to be out there with them soaking it in.
