My husband wanted Vicky's coffee and a sandwich. I'm not a fan but I figured I would try a sandwich out. I called and the woman who answered the phone, spoke in English but I did notice that she had a heavy Spanish accent. Now, mind you, I speak fluent Spanish and English, however, I usually start off speaking English. However, if someone prefers Spanish, I immediately switch, it's not a big deal to me. Anyway, I proceeded with my question, the woman sat there listening and instead of saying - I don't speak English, she just hung up on me! When I called back, several times, would not pick up the phone! I decided to go to my favorite down the street- the Bonjour French Bakery, but my husband did order from Vicky's. I bookmarked this place a while ago but for whatever reason, have not visited yet and I live really close! The reason I finally made it here was because a fellow yelper posted pics from their recent trip and I was drooling over them previously that day. I was working until 6:15pm that evening all the way in Miramar so I was cutting it close (they close at 7pm). I rushed all the way there and made it! It's sucked though because there was not much left due to closing time in fifteen minutes. I ordered what croquettes were left, 6 empanadas (2 veggie, 2 fried chicken, 2 baked chicken), and a chocolate mousse. It was a little strange because the girl kept telling me what the total was and did not get the mousse yet so I kept responding, "yes I would also like a chocolate mousse please". I just paid to shut her up and prepared to fight if I didn't get my mousse that I paid for. Maybe she thought I was going to run out with the old food? Whatever. I have read on other reviews about stale personalities here and I saw for myself. I know my experiences are always more pleasant with bubbly people. Since I went grocery shopping after, we heated up the food later for dinner. We both enjoyed the food a lot. Hubby's favorite was the veggie empanada and mine was everything except that lol. I ordered a pan con bistec and a bread pudding. The sandwich was pretty bad, but edible. The bread was soggy, the "bistec" was soooo thin and sooo burnt.. the tomatoes were yellow etc. however, that's not why I am leaving a review - I am leaving a review because my bread pudding or pudin de pan in Spanish has MOLD. If I would have given this to a child they may not have noticed and could have easily eaten it. This is completely unacceptable and disgusting. I do NOT recommend this bakery. I have been to two different Vicky bakeries now and I am so disappointed. The Cuban bread is not the authentic Cuban bread. The color, the texture is not anything close to what Cuban bread really is. It is more like a French bread almost. Apart from that, it has almost doubled in price, I will never be purchasing their bread again. I have noticed that some of their other supposedly original Cuban items are not authentic either. I work in the area and always pass Vicky's and constantly hear people talk about it, and finally made my trip into the actual store front! I have had their empanadas quite a few time at catered functions and they are delicious! Upon walking into Vicky's you see the whole showcase filled with lots of options! It was a little early for empanadas so I vowed to try something new and went for the Guava and Cream Cheese pastry and a cafe con leche. It was a delicious way to start the day! I stayed in to eat and enjoyed my pastry inside, away from the Florida humidity, although they have some nice outside seating as well. Be prepared if you get a pastry, the crumbles will be everywhere! Definitely not recommended for a car ride snack, unless you're planning to vacuum out your entire car after the fact. The pastry was super flakey on the outside and soft on the inside with just enough filling of guava and a spread of cream cheese. The sugar cafe con leche was a perfect add on to wash it down. I do just wish it was a little bit hotter, otherwise was very creamy and a good balance of sugar. This place was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Pan De Bisto. Which was a HUGE steak sandwich with little straws of potatoes. Let me tell you, this sandwich had some flavor going on there. The steak was juice and tender. The potatoes straws were semi hard for a light crunch and the bread was thick, which was perfect for this sandwich. The spot was very chill. Nice addition to the neighborhood! This location has been so many businesses, a dry cleaners, hookah lounge, and many years just empty. So happy to see an established business take this spot. I have been to the Vicky Bakery in Cooper City but this place is so much nicer. There is plenty of seating: A long high top communal table, some booths, a sofa. Tons of cakes, pastries, cookies, and pastelitos are on display. I often come here to buy sweets for customers and my customers love them. I often treat myself to a coffee here, hot or iced cafe con leche. Love the coffee! Vicky also serves basic hot breakfast and sandwiches. Vicky has become popular rather quickly and there is often a line. There are two registers but the lines can move slowly. I suggest they get more help to speed things up. I absolutely love Vicky's Bakery. Before they opened this location we ordered delivery from here quite often. There's nothing better than on a Sunday morning to bite down on a homemade guava and cheese pastry! I was so happy to see they opened one closer to us. I came in right at open in the morning the coffee was brewing and there was a delightful smell in the air. I needed to just grab a few things and head out because I wanted to surprise my husband with breakfast in bed. Coming in I instantly was helped and let Jesus take the wheel in the situation since my baking expert (completely forgot her name) told me exactly what I didn't want to miss out on when enjoying pastries from Vicky's Bakery. I normally love this place. Grew up on Vicky Balery. Lived in Chicago and always had to bring a care box home with me for the family to enjoy. Not sure what happened today, but I ordered a cafe con leche normal- normal milk normal sugar level. Got it and milk was cold and the coffee was so sweet it was like I got a cavity on the first sip. Definitely not their normal good quality. Got a media Noche sandwich. Sandwich was smaller than normal. And pressed but as a panini. Now in fairness I usually buy Cubanos but decided I wanted a media Noche. I'm used to the presses sandwich not panini. And it was smaller than normal- should've taken a pic. Got a staple- pastelito de guayaba. Was perfectly wrapped and taken back to work perfectly to eat. Opened my pastelito for an afternoon snack and it was destroyed on the underside. 12/14/2017 - Que Sweet it is!!!! Had a surprise housewarming party at work. My boss went to Vicky Bakery and brought all kinds of baked goods, from pastelitos de carne, pastelitos de queso, empanadillas de pollo, and pastelitos de guayaba. She also brought a brazo gitano cake. The cake was very fresh and not too sugary. I had the first piece and had to make everyone tried it. Everyone thought it would be super sugary, but it ended up being a hit. It was so nicely decorated too. Stopped in on Christmas Eve to pick up essentials before La Noche Buena. Location is clean and spacious with many comfy seating options. This location seems to have a modern approach since they have TV screens with the menu and a loyalty program. (What can I say, as a marketer I appreciate loyalty programs.) There were several employees waiting on customers so the process was quick and efficient which is always a plus. And as for the food, it was comforting/nostalgic as these items always are for me. The pastelitos were good, although I wasn't a huge fan of the tequeño, which was sad considering it's cheese wrapped in bread and one would think it would be hard to mess that up. Either way it didn't taste fresh. Vicky Bakery is the product of sweat, blood and tears of Cuban immigrants Antonio and Gelasia Cao. First location opened in Hialeah in 1972. The two had originally met while working in a famous bakery back in Cuba. Today their pastelito-fueled empire is roughly 15 stores strong and we are graced with 3 locations in Broward. This oocation is at the south end of a strip mall off of University in Davie. There is a small porch area to sit outside located on the side of the building. I was waiting for my friend to get to Davie to eat dinner, but needed a quick pick me up so I thought I'd take advantage. Having spent 3 years of my professional training in Hialeah, I am a café fiend. I ordered a snall cafe con leche (with the sugar- calories be damned, its not the same without it). I also ordered a chicken croqueta and a tequeño. Now I know what you are all thinking... pollo? Well I dont eat pork so chicken will have to do and I guess I don't know what I'm missing with the jamon, but the chicken one is delicious! The teqeuño is gooey goodness, because how can you go wrong with fried bread stuffed with cheese? Service is always quick and friendly. There is ample seating. I am a very huge fan of Vicky Bakery, when I moved out of Miami I was so happy to find this location. The food is always yummy, typically never have issues. However, I've visited twice these last three days and I've been less than impressed. For the first order, I got chicken croquetas instead of what I had ordered which were ham croquetas. This time, I got the right food item as ordered but the coffee tasted burnt. To note, watching them making the coffee leaves you wondering- they don't wipe down or wash where they place the coffee which is what amounts to the burned coffee taste. And if you order cafe con leche, then pay close attention to what they use to wipe down the milk frother. The same piece of cloth and they don't release the remaining milk that sits inside the frother. (You're supposed to wipe it and turn it on again so it pushes all of that out) which leaves you to wonder about sanitary practices. Small technicalities that can make something as simple as flavor AND experience much better. read more

The food was so good and reasonable I must have gained 5 pounds trying a few Cuban Pastelitos (guava, guava and cheese), having the Breakfast special with a cafe con leche and a Colada to go! My breakfast was two eggs, bacon, fries and cuban bread for around $6, so cheap and good. Oh my the pastries, flakey, buttery and so good. The best coffee around. I mentioned that I stopped by to a friend of my mother's so the next day I had to stop and bring her some guava pastelitos and ham croquettes. The only drawback was the wait for my breakfast around 15-20 minutes. If I could get them zero stars, I would. I arrived. They were taking care of a customer. There's three workers out at 7:30 AM. I stopped to Vicky bakery for the first time I visit this location. I feel discriminated disappointed. I was told I had to wait until it was my turn which I did for five minutes. When it was my turn, they took my order and then they started taking the next customer order before I finish mine. They are no point in time. Did they tell that customer to wait for their turn, the greedy at customer and took her order before any other customer there which I was there, and it was my turn. There's a lot of Vicky bakeries, but this one in particularly is one of the worst as customer service when I ask for a manager or a supervisor the girl who I was asking tells me she's the manager supervisor, which is the person who was mistreating me just because I am young. You are not entitled to mistreat your customers. Specially, a first time customer the worst experience. Now I'm not even happy to drink this coffee. It ruined my whole morning. read more

That logo just brings me joy. I will say I sometimes question Broward County's ability to deliver but they earned their stripes on my visit here. Empanadas are known to save lives and due to their strategically placed location right at the border of Nova Southeastern University, this lifesaver has certainly been placed at the right place and at the right time. The service was quick when I entered. I grabbed an empanada, a cortadito, and a croqueta for good luck. If you're not agotada by the time you leave Nova then you gotta go back and keep studying. It's a nice touch of South Florida's food culture implemented in a perfectly progressive and energetic part of what can be regarded to as the boondocks. I am so excited to enjoy Vicky Bakery who now has vegan Cuban bread and almond milk for the Café con Leche. I love that I can share these childhood classics with my family now and the kids have begun to take up the habit as well. It's just something that I grew up with and am happy that I can share it. Anyway the prices are really good I mean honestly can you get almond milk coffee at Starbucks for such a great price so you are saving in the bank and enjoying great taste. I really wanted to love this place (tried it twice) but unfortunately I never did. I ordered the a beef sandwich and empanadas. I tried various empanadas and they were all delicious but unfortunately the beef sandwich was extremely bland and flavor-less and a little dry (it just needed some more sauce in my opinion, which they had more sauce options!). I wouldn't mind coming back to try some of their pastries and eat their empanadas for a light breakfast or snack but unfortunately I wouldn't come back here for an actual meal.
