This is the place where the helpful hardware man lives. His name is James. I had a list. James stepped outside the booth to walk me down the aisles to grab the items in stock that were on my list. James gave me suggestions for the items on my list that he did not have in his store. I like James. Moral of the story...be like James.

Convenient, affordable, and helpful locally-owned store. 'Nuff said. On My last visit, I arrived frustrated after I had tried to get My car key copied at Wal-mart 4 times without success. One visit here and the problem was solved. The employee's have always given Me a friendly greeting immediately, and are eager to help Me with anything I need. And unlike the sometimes clueless young employee's seen on the Home Depot floor, these people actually seem to know their stuff and can tell you what will and what will not be useful for your situation. Of course, you will not find the vast selection of items found at their large chain-store competitors but if you know what you want you can get what you need and be out of the store in 3 minutes flat. Plus, the location is so convenient that you'll be back to your project in half the time it might take otherwise. The prices seem fairly reasonable and I've spied some really good deals in there from time to time. Tip: If you need an item not seen on their floor, they may keep it in the back.

Since moving to Smyrna and moving from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house, we've frequented Vickery's a number of times and have always had positive experiences. There are always several people wandering the store who are willing to help and they seriously have EVERYTHING!! After one of our cats jumped up on the stove and turned on one of the burners we knew, to keep our cats safe and prevent the house from burning down, that we needed to child proof the oven knobs. I highly doubted they would have child proof stuff here and we went to Target instead, were unable to find them, and returned to Vickery's to find a pack of 5 knob protectors. We love coming here because it's not a big box Home Depot where I easily get overwhelmed. Also, they have a really cute black cat that wanders the store and requests love.

They always have the best signs (on their changeable sign). I make a point of cutting through that way, to see them!

Friendly, helpful service. Huge range of products. Many locally produced products, such as honey, locally crafted mugs, etc.

Great staff, family owned, cool vintage feel inside. Much better feels supporting small business rather than Walmart or Home Depot

Super cool people, and beyond helpful. Customer friendly, and a 1000 times more helpful/knowledgeable than the big box stores!

Great little hardware store, a nice change of pace from a Home Depot or Lowes.

I like to order online and have it shipped to the home if it's free shipping. My ladies experience, however, was most disappointing! As I ordered four large wooden moving dollies and had it shipped to my home. When I got the notification that it had arrived, I looked at the picture of the proof that it had arrived, and on my doorstep was four boxes of staples! I called up the customer service at the store that I thought it was purchased at explained the situation to them. Ultimately it got resolved, but it took a long time! As they were out of these wooden moving dollies it almost every store in Atlanta! The major reason I got chipped the rug merchandise is because Home Depot now uses Uber to deliver! A really bad decision on Home Depot's part!

Save some time as well without having to drive OTP for a non-empty shelf. The only delay for us was picking from the mildly vast choices for each item. Should it be the plastic rings in one of three colors, or metal? Which of the five plunger types? We could stay for hours, but let's not get carried away. Near the register we noticed the array of fun non-hardware type items for sale. We'll have to hit that section up next time when not running to setup a college student's bathroom on the fly. Friendly speedy checkout experience--nearly surpass the Big Green Egg aroma outside the front door, almost. We'll drop these items off with the college peeps and head back to the burbs until next round.

I think one of the aspects that I've enjoyed most about moving outside of the city, is the fact…read morethat you have wonderful small business stores. My husband and I have really enjoyed getting to know the folks at Barnes hardware store. We just bought a house this past summer about 7 minutes from this store, and have had so many great experiences. Our first encounter here, we knew that we needed a lawn mower. Desperately. Our home sits on a half acre lot, and we were starting to look like those neighbors that you really wish had NOT moved in. We finally had enough cash reserves after dumping nearly all we had into down payments. We knew that if we got a push mower, it would take a full day of "family togetherness" for us to accomplish the task of mowing our lawn. We decided to check out Barnes, since it looked like a nice little place right off of Veterans Memorial. We received warm greetings right upon entering the store. We made our inquiries on riding mowers, and sure enough- they had a nice one that had recently been traded in and fixed up by their mechanics. Steve, who owns the store with his sweet wife, was not on location that day, and so his wife got him on the phone for us so that we could get the specs on the mower, and work out a reasonable price. In the end, we ended up getting a great little mower that has a cart that can be attached for half the price of a new one. Talk about being fortunate! (PS- I can't wait until this summer. I fully intend on rocking out to P!ink's "Rock Star" while mowing). As is the case with many smaller stores- They don't have everything. But you know what? I don't care. Sure- we cheat on them every once and a while by going to the big box hardware stores, but not until we've assured that they don't have exactly what we're looking for. Time and again this little hardware store has proven that they will take the time to help us. None of this "push the button and we'll have a store associate with you in a few minutes" stuff. One additional note- They're very competitive price wise with larger home improvement/hardware stores. I was very impressed with their seed prices (they buy in bulk locally) when we dropped in this past week.
