Vickery Hardware is located on Spring/Concord Road about a block from the big South Cobb intersection. It is an Ace Hardware branded store, but it is better known to the Smyrna community as Vickery Hardware. So, big box name and inventory with small town and local vibe service! They have a pretty decent selection of all things you may need from hardware, tools, equipment, sporting goods, lighting, etc...and even have a good selection of locally sourced products and goods. The place isn't massive, but they pack a lot of useful stuff in. I have made many trips here for minor repairs around my house. Pricing may not always be the cheapest, but the convenience of not having to get in the middle of all the action at Lowe's or Home Depot is worth the minor price difference. Another thing that makes Vickery's so special is the service. It is a family owned place and you can tell once you enter. All the associates are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful from entry to exit. Also, while I have never encountered them, there are a few cats that live here. They are the resident experts from what I hear and go by "Nuts" and "Bolts"! Overall, Vickery's is a solid neighborhood hardware store that I will certainly pop into when needed! read more

I have been meaning to review this place for a while. It's small local hardware store. You might pay more than if you ran to HD but that's now why we come here. It's closer to hour home, offers unique items and a great selection. It's very well organized and everyone is darn friendly. There is always someone around to help answer my questions. I always come straight here when I need a tool, lawn chemicals, or a quick handy man item. It's the way hardware stores used to be back in the day and I hope they stick around. I also love the little library on the side of the store. It's one of those with free books, "take one, put one back" kind of deal. read more

Convenient, affordable, and helpful locally-owned store. 'Nuff said. On My last visit, I arrived frustrated after I had tried to get My car key copied at Wal-mart 4 times without success. One visit here and the problem was solved. The employee's have always given Me a friendly greeting immediately, and are eager to help Me with anything I need. And unlike the sometimes clueless young employee's seen on the Home Depot floor, these people actually seem to know their stuff and can tell you what will and what will not be useful for your situation. Of course, you will not find the vast selection of items found at their large chain-store competitors but if you know what you want you can get what you need and be out of the store in 3 minutes flat. Plus, the location is so convenient that you'll be back to your project in half the time it might take otherwise. Since moving to Smyrna and moving from a 1 bedroom apartment to a 3 bedroom house, we've frequented Vickery's a number of times and have always had positive experiences. There are always several people wandering the store who are willing to help and they seriously have EVERYTHING!! After one of our cats jumped up on the stove and turned on one of the burners we knew, to keep our cats safe and prevent the house from burning down, that we needed to child proof the oven knobs. I highly doubted they would have child proof stuff here and we went to Target instead, were unable to find them, and returned to Vickery's to find a pack of 5 knob protectors. We love coming here because it's not a big box Home Depot where I easily get overwhelmed. Also, they have a really cute black cat that wanders the store and requests love. read more

Finding and shopping at green / environmental-friendly places is important to me, I take "shop local" seriously, not just because of the gas and travel of shipping in products but also to support local economy, when $ stays in my community. SO I was glad to hear that Vickery is part of that movement. Like, you pick out and buy just how many nails you need - instead of all the plastic and packaging, when I only need three nails and a package at [big box] make me buy 24 AND have to get rid of the packaging afterwards. They could do a better job of promoting their "green" aspects (beyond rain barrels, vegetable gardening) like they have a thing that explains IFC light bulbs and how to choose what you need, they have cleaning products like Mrs. Meyer's and low-flow shower heads. I know this sounds like an ad for Vickery, but I love them. And I am so determined to support family-owned, conscientious businesses!! I hope they stay in business for another generation. read more

I was extremely pleased with the service of my Weber gas grill purchase. When the ACE website was not working as expected I called Vickery Hardware and they were able to order and deliver the exact same grill for less money than on the website. The gentleman, Walt, who helped me was informative about the delivery process. They had great communication in scheduling the delivery with my availability and calling before they arrived. At first glance a friendly local hardware store but lacking in any real expertise beyond what your local Depot offers, which for me all but defeats the point of shopping there. I've taken my chainsaw here to be sharpened twice. The 1st time the high schooler who did the job put the blade on backwards. The 2nd time I had to wait over an hour and as soon as I started cutting a bit flew off that hadn't been secured enough. Happy to shop local but not if the experience is significantly worse than what I would find at a big box store. If you live nearby and need something fast, go for it, otherwise stay away! read more

Our favorite local hardware shop that is family run. I can call and have my supplies ready and waiting for pick up. I called re lavenders and the nice lady called be back to tell me she ordered them for me. I had a question on how to clean my floors which are complicated and they showed me all the product options I had and actually how to clean it. Genuine people with genuine customer service. I love this place. It is on my way home from work. So if I need to pick up anything hardware related, I don't have to make a huge detour to go to Lowe's or Home Depot. It looks like a family owned business. I think they even have a cat in the store. Either that, or some customer brought their cat in. Any business that has kitties in their store is good enough for me. They are very friendly, knowledgeable, and eager to help. I do like the family-like atmosphere they provide. Love this old school hardware store. If you need help, direction or a specific or unusual piece of hardware - come here. They can help. And while they might not have every piece of hardware ever made, they will sure try to help devise a solution. Things like furniture polish might cost a little more, but I would much rather the money go the owner and staff than the yacht-fund of a CEO of a big box hardware chain. My husband and I have been customers of Vickery (formerly Ace) Hardware for years. They usually have what we want and, more importantly, they're close to our house. It's usually hard to find someone in the store to help -- but we can usually find what we want without help. I went to their store this morning to buy some screws for a project I'm working on. After looking at the screws in the back, I couldn't find what I was looking for, so I went up to the desk, which nobody seemed to be manning. I waited patiently for someone return to the desk. Finally, two employees appeared -- and completely ignored me. After a minute or so, another customer, (who apparently had stacked some stuff at the checkout while going back into the store to look for some more stuff) came to the front with the rest of his purchases. The employee with the grey beard immediately started checking him out. Meantime, another customer entered the store, and the other employee asked him what he could do for him and proceeded to help him with his "chainsaw" sharpening. After the initial customer had finished checking out, the grey-beard guy asked me if I needed some help. I pointed out that two other people had been helped ahead of me while I was standing there. He curtly replied that the first customer had had a key made earlier and was, therefore, a "customer" -- and that "customers" got helped first. (I always thought that any person shopping in a store was a "customer", but this guy had obviously never heard of this concept). I then enquired about the man who had just walked in the door and was immediately helped. He just shrugged and looked bored. Since there didn't seem to be any interest in customer service in the store, I said that I would go elsewhere to find my screws. "Fine with me", he announced. As I left, I mentioned that my husband would probably no longer be shopping there either. "That's fine with me, too", he retorted. This store has now lost two long-time customers (myself and my husband). I wonder how many other customers they've lost because of their rudeness and indifference? read more

Right near me so its convenient. It's really a hit or miss in customer service. There are one or two older gentlemen who know how to really help you, others are polite but lack knowledge. One older woman is downright rude. Also questionable return policy. They want packaging to be in the same condition as when you bought it. That's impossible. I like how close this store is to my house, but literally every time I go here it frustrates me in some way. They didn't have freaking 18 gauge staples today. They only had tiny bottles of spackling.. I mean SPACKLING! I had to get a shop vac the other day and didn't have the time to go to Home Depot. That cost me 15 bucks. I stopped by the Vickery Ace hardware just to make a duplicate car key as it was just on my way . The place and staff seemed friendly although it became very obvious to me right off that the nice young man attempting to make my key was not really experienced and somehow managed to make the key and i paid for it and wishe the cashier the older gentelman with white beard a merry christmas on my way out . I tested the key and it did not work on my car so i went back and the young man asked another employee to help out . The second employee did not really seemed experienced but i just waited patiently for him to hopefully do his majic and make the key right . I did notice he was using a peice of angled metal ( used in carpentry ) as a guide with his key machine as if the machine was missing a piece . He handed me the key and i went out to my car and this time my origional key along with the copy did not work and i was very upset since i couldnt even start my car . I went inside and complained about the key and another employee of black ethnicity started to educate me of how there is noway they had done anything to my key and i pointed out that my origional key which is a few years old never had sharp edges on it after they placed it on the machine to make a copy perhaps they put it in place of the duplicate or whatever they did that somehow now it absolutely does not turn my cars ignition . The black man got impatient with me and bluntly just told me to " remove yourself from the store " . I was shocked by his response and told him i need my key fixed first so i can even start my car and he threatened to call 911 and approached the phone as to scare me and i told him to go ahead and start dialing because im not leaving . I noticed the cashier white bearded man behind me as if they are expecting trouble and i never went in their looking for trouble and had to be in a meeting in one hour so i just told them to refund my money and ill go . The white bearded quickly volunteered to give me a refund as the black man had said he wont refund me and i left and went to a real locksmith shop and the older locksmith man agreed with me that Vickery Ace hardware had filed my key and also they had applied too much pressure when installing my key on their machine to make a duplicate . I will never go to that store again and tell all of my friends and contacts about my experience if asked . The black man also had said they have been there 40 years and have made thousands of keys as if every key they ever made had been perfect . I wish i had even noticed a name tag on that black mans shirt so i could refer to him by his name but his unproffessional behavior and telling a complaining customer to just remove himself from the property was absolutely uncalled for . I hope and wish theres a receptive ear at that store , maybe the owner or a higher positioned manager i did not ask for since i had to attend a meeting . read more

Fine old time hardware. They carry a wide range of products, the "regular stuff" you would expect and also a wide collection of housewares, pet supplies and garden items. They have a pretty neat display of old hardware curiosities on display at the front of the store. I get the reeling they have at least one of everything stashed around there somewhere..or at least it seems that way. Today I needed a replacement window pane and after going to home depot to find out that they only have two sizes, and of course not the size I needed, I called vickery and was pleasantly surprised to find that they will cut glass to the size you need. What a great little hardware store! It has the feel of a small town store with everything you need to get the job done. They can even tell you how to do it too! The prices are not as great as the big stores but I don't mind. I am helping keep good business going in our town and they are so conveniently located. I have gotten my kitchen knifes sharpened, keys made, gotten advice and parts to fix simple pluming problems in my home. I just love going here! Bad experience. Went in to get battery for my mother's watch. When they installed it & returned the watch the device was running but the hands were lose. The young black man who returned it said it was broken before he worked on it. Why would I replace a battery on a broken watch? Made no sense. Not only did I have to pay the $9.99 but my mother was called a liar. Never again. They are dishonest. Be warned. read more
