I didn't write a review the first time I went to Vicino - because I forgot to take pictures of the amazing food!!! What a perfect excuse to go back and verify that my first experience was no fluke! They impressed again with what could be the best calamari fritti I have ever had. The calamari itself was melt in your mouth tender and the breading was both light and flavorful. The lemon herb aioli? On point! The first time I ate there, I ordered the branzino - which was amazing. Tender, flaky, and mild with the perfect crispiness in the exterior. Everyone who ordered it on this second visit raved about it. For my second visit, I branched out to the carbonara which was as beautiful on the palate as it looked in the bowl. A perfect crunchiness of the pancetta counterbalanced the tenderness of the pasta which was prepared to a perfect al dente. I reviewed a carbonara from a different restaurant earlier this year and now have an apples to apples comparison that heavily favors Vicino. Service was outstanding despite being very busy that evening and the interior had a nice modern chic appearance - if that matters to you. What matters to me is the food and Vicino is now 2 for 2 in providing an experience that will definitely bring me back again! read more

Consistently a great experience here! This place is clean, modern, and upscale chic. There's a smaller dining room with intimate booths and tables, plus a bar area with a handful of high-top tables with a decently sized bar top. Brunch: Every time we've visited, it hasn't been too busy and we've gotten seated right away, even though we make a reservation just in case. They offer a great selection of brunch cocktails and mocktails, plus a variety of brunch options, including appetizers and sweeter dishes. I went for a solo lunch and the food was amazing ! I sat outside enjoying the fresh air and a nice cocktails. I started with the meatball appetizer...and I would go back for those alone ! 10/10. I then asked my server, my famous question "what's your favorite thing..from each category?" He was very knowledgeable and helpful. He talked the chicken parm sandwich up, and it didn't disappoint! I typically cannot finish all of my food, but this day, I DID!! Everything was so yummy, and I will visit again. I crave Italian cuisine quite often, but I don't just want an olive garden. We asked for outdoor seating and given table on sidewalk, which was not so great. Ordered spritzers which were good, not stirred. We got Arancini which was our best plate. They were properly done with shell and on a bed of marinara that was lovely. I got the Ragu, which advertised capers and peprocini in the dish... I didn't find them and it was cohesive with lamb and bits of mushroom, carrots and zuchini they add after the long cook, so they have texture. Missed capers. My wife is Lasagna fan and Beschamel Sauced lasagna is something we learned from our milanese family. This Lasagna has a goat cheese variant in it and the Beschamel sauce was just on plate prior plating. Not good. Unfortunately. The watermelon salad had candied hazelnuts which took it beyond something you might make at home. The service was decent and the drinks were good. Ordered the steak n eggs on this sat for brunch. When we walked in no one was there yet. But it got pretty steady during our time here. We sat in the bar area which was a good choice because no one else sat there and the vibe was really nice. We sat in a very sun lit area by the windows of course. We had this area to ourselves and our server Dakota was awesome. Very good energy and vibes. Loved the music. My sister got the salmon sandwich which was very good. It was a beautiful evening to sit on a patio and enjoy some pasta and drinks. We started off with cocktails. My friend ordered their version of the espresso martini called Baristo. I ordered the Cloak and Dagger which was a tequila drink. The Baristo was an absolutely perfect looking Espresso Martini. I did get an opportunity to taste it and it was one of the best espresso martinis I have ever had. My cocktail was good but but it wasnt anything special. I totally regretted not ordering the Baristo. As my entree I got the Carbonara . I was curious because I have never had it. The food came out very quickly. The Carbonara was fine but it didn't have much flavor. I once again tried what my friend ordered and I preferred her gnocchi . It had a lot more flavor. When I return I will definitely be trying some other items. But I will definitely be getting that Baristo. read more

Finally tried this place a few months ago Honestly, this place is SO cute inside, but I think it would be a better place for drinks as opposed to dinner AND drinks. Why do I say this? The cocktails were DIVINE. You know when you drink a cocktail and you're like "oooh these are dangerous" bc it tastes like juice? Yeah, these are those. They're delicious. For dinner I ordered the chicken parm. I was blown away by the portion size. For the price, I think the size alone is worth it. However, the quality of the food is what surprised me. The restaurant itself seems to be quite elevated, but the food was subpar. When I lifted my chicken off the noodles, there was mozzarella melted on top but it looked like the good & gather shredded cheese in a bag from target. The center of the pasta was also cold and it looked like they poured store bought sauce from the jar on top. The chicken was really crispy and tasty, but I feel like the spaghetti portion I could have easily made by myself at home (and I could have also made it better) One of my friends ordered the margherita pizza and she liked it/said it was good. My other friend ordered cacio e pepe with shredded chicken. She liked it but a few hours later she couldn't stop throwing up which we assumed was food poisoning as she did not have any other foods or drinks between consumption and her vomiting episode. Our foodie group came to Vicino for brunch today and it was very delightful. The ambiance is beautiful and very modern with a gorgeous patio that goes all around the restaurant. Our server, Sophia, was a ray of sunshine and had a bright smile and a warm, friendly personality as soon as she came to our table. We did not have to wait long for anything at our table. The brunch menu was very good and has a good variety of items. The regular menu was terrific and had a good variety of gluten free/vegan items which made our group very happy. I decided to go with a mimosa for my beverage and the breakfast Panini for my entree. The Mimosa was very refreshing and tasted excellent. The bartender prepared it very well. The breakfast Panini was fantastic and tasted amazing. The fried.egg, mozzarella, tomato, and sausage with foccoa bread made for a perfect combination with excellent flavor. The side of pesto also contributed to the flavor of the breakfast Panini. It was a great breakfast and filled me up quickly. Vicino is an excellent brunch place on Mass Ave. and the prices are reasonable, so it is very well worth while to come here with friends or family for brunch on the patio. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, perfect for a dinner out on Mass Ave. I started with a delicious cocktail and shared the meatballs and calamari for appetizers. Our group tries different restaurants when we are visiting Old National shows, monthly- and last month, we walked by Vicino- having never heard of it, we checked out the scene and knew we wanted to try it next. It did not disappoint! We even said we plan to visit when we don't have shows! I am not a fan of downtown bc of the busyness and traffic, but now I have a very good reason to drive there! Kevin- the best server was absolutely wonderful to our table, and the whole staff greeted us, even servers walking by! First, the ambiance and atmosphere was perfect! The music was upbeat without being annoying, the colors and artwork gave such a calming presence! The food- man, we are foodies! I ordered the Brie appetizer and none of the girls had had that combination- so it was a perfect introduction to them! Drinks were exceptionally balanced and that bartender was BUSY!!! Every single vegetable that came to our table was flawless bc they weren't soggy and an afterthought- they still had all the crunch and nutrients in them! (Vegetables are not supposed to be mushy- that is for every other restaurant, not here) Recommend the lamb ravioli- it was delicious but we found out they make their own gelato in house!!!! I was able to make reservations for 7. We were celebrating 3 birthdays, so I noted this in the reservation as well. We started off with cocktails. Standing on bananas is a rum drink made with a coconut wash. This reminded me of clarified drinks which removes the toxins that make you hung over. It's a process for the restaurant, but every clarified drink I have had is extra smooth and delicious. For appetizers, we tried everything! We got the oysters, meatballs, calamari, and watermelon salad. Nice selection to nom nom nom on. Everything was fresh! The oysters were baked so don't worry about oysters in the Midwest. The calamari wasn't chewy and the watermelon salad was so fresh. For entrees, I ordered the brazino. The rest of the table ordered the salmon, scallops, lamb, and steak. I really enjoyed my brazino. After perusing the Devour Indy options a friend and I met here for lunch. Parking on Mass Ave was fine and we were both able to find a spot within a block of the restaurant. I had made a reservation but for lunch it wasn't too busy so you could probably just walk in! It is a beautifully decorated and airy spot yet with a feel of Europe. We loved the various color palettes and table options. We sat at a smaller rounded booth that felt rather luxurious. The waitress was amazing and helped us think through options, but we both decided on the Devour menu. So many great choices and such a value able option! My first course was arancini followed by gnocchi and a pear pastry. The flavors were bright and perfectly balanced and every time we got a dish we stopped talking to exclaim over the food. It was actually a mind blowing meal! My favorite was the gnocchi as it had some richness to it yet also not heavy. It was soft and pillowy with a delicate pesto sauce that coated but wasn't greasy. Just writing this is making me hungry! We loved this restaurant and I've already told several others to try it. The Devour menu was amazing and a great way to try a new spot and a tasting menu. My mimosa was quite delightful, I loved the pulp and flute it was in. We ordered the breakfast panini and the cannoli waffles....we always share so I typically order the sweet and he the savory. It was so nice outside on the patio. Very good area and the music was great. Rico brought our food out and wow the presentation was amazing. I couldn't wait to dig in! The cannoli waffles are absolutely amazing! The creme and pistachios were so delicious complimenting the whole dish. I love that the fresh fruit was accompanying it as well. A perfect solo dinner at Vicino! I had the most relaxing and enjoyable solo dinner at Vicino. The service was absolutely wonderful--special shoutout to Sam, who noticed I had added a single ice cube to my white wine earlier in the evening. When she brought my next glass, she had already included one perfect giant cube, just the way I liked it. That attention to detail really made me smile! The picante pizza was absolutely delicious--spicy, flavorful, and just what I was craving. I paired it with a fresh, crisp Caesar salad that hit all the right notes. I got the oysters and why do they have so much salt. Firstly, since the light was dim I thought it was bread crumbs so I got a big spoonful and put it in my mouth. That was disgusting, no dish needs that amount of salt. The waiter was so friendly and recommended the chicken Marsala, like 6 of us got it and we all thought it was just okay. First time here for brunch and I have to say, I'm impressed. Cute place on the corner of Mass Ave, where Hedge Row used to be. I has the Omelet Italiano and is was delicious. I'd described it as apple cider meets pumpkin spice, with visual elements of Christmas. The arancini was just ok. I've had ones with very satisfying, thick crunchy crisp exteriors. These were more of an oven baked crispness. The chicken marsala was unfortunately a bit underwhelming. The sauce wasn't as marsala forward as I'd like, not sure if it needs more marsala or maybe a little lemon juice to brighten it up. The olive tapenade also darkened the flavor considerably so it just wasn't the profile I was hoping for. The chicken could also use a little more seasoning. I ordered a lavender Italian soda and my partner ordered the Yuzu cocktail. I stole a sip of it and it was so refreshing! We split the bread and herb oil small plate. Originally we were going to order the bruschetta board, but I appreciate the waitress letting us know the bruschetta board is really big and she normally recommends it for groups of 4-5. She let us know that she would be more than happy to box up any left over if we did go with that. For our main we ordered the panzanella salad and the lemon ricotta pizza. GET THIS PIZZA! I will dream of it! Me and my partner split the salad and pizza and it was perfect! I was really happy with the meal because I feel that some Italian places really carb load you but this place had carbs, and refreshing flavor! For birthdays you get your choice between a tiramisu or cannolis. I went with the tiramisu and it was delicious! A classic! They put a little candle on it for me!
