Best pizza in town...great service.... Hidden gem for sure. Looking forward to coming back

Decided to t try this place out! When I walked in it took a decent amount of time to have someone help me. I stood around for a bit before even seeing someone. Looking at the pizza case it looked pretty good! I decided on the 4 Cheese Whole Pie to go. Once I ordered I started looking around. I noticed pretty much all around how dirty in every corner and nook. I wasn't to excited about it at this point. Pizza looked really good however it was very difficult for me to trust the cleanliness of it. I don't typically like to leave these type of reviews. But if so much is visual I don't want to know what isn't. Overall I ate one slice. It wasn't too bad but use discretion and own judgement. I know they are moving is what they said.

Great Pizza! Great service! Can't say enough about this quaint spot. Seriously good deep dish pizza. Caesar salad is very good too. Will branch out and try other items next visit but hard to pass on the pie.

Atmosphere: Small spot with a few tables for dine in Food: Decent but not standout. Might be better if the pizza is fresh but if you order a slice, they just reheat an already-made slice Price: Prices are pretty reasonable. Wednesday they have an AYCE slice deal that is worth it. Service: Friendly staff Parking: Street parking

The best Chicago deep dish pizza you'll find on the entire west coast! The great thing about this place is that if you don't have people to share a whole pie you can order by the slice which is perfect if you just wanna swing by for pint and a couple slices of deep dish heaven! Staff is always friendly and it's just a chill joint. It's tucked away in the historic Alberta neighborhood.

Sold me raw pizza. The entire middle is raw. I'm from Chicago and you can't rush deep dish no matter how busy you are. This place used to be good now it's gone downhill.

Deep dish pizza is the way to go! Parking: During peak hours, it can be challenging to find parking. You can park in the residential areas (be aware of the no-parking signs). Service/Ambiance: We were greeted when we walked inside, the lady at the counter asked us if we had any questions. There is limited seating inside but there is some outdoor seating at the back. Food: The deep dish pizza tasted great! I personally wouldn't say its the best pizza but I heard its certainly the best in the Portland area. I barely finished two slices and had to save the rest for later in the week ( I couldn't finish it the next day, the pizza was so filling). A whole deep dish pizza can be easily be eaten by two, but if your a pizza lover might as well have the whole dish to yourself ;)

Where's the cheese?! Here. You'll find the cheese under the sauce. It's so cheesy in the best way. Small cozy neighborhood pizza joint serving up Chicago style pizza. Garlic knots & marinara were devoured. Friendly staff. Loved that they had games to play while you wait. Also had single slices available.

The first time, we had a pepperoni pizza, a side of meatballs, and grape sorbetto. We liked the meatballs so much that, the second time, we had the Alley Kat pizza and, again, the grape sorbetto. The pizzas were both excellent--good crust with a great chew, good proportions for the toppings, and a cheese that tasted like cheese. (reductive? Maybe, but so much mozzarella is bland and rubbery that it seems worth mentioning.) The grape sorbetto was an excellent way to finish the meal both times: sweet, but not too sweet, and very bright to cleanse the palate.

Unfortunately, this was both our first and last visit. I don't think I've ever disliked a pizza before, but this may be the first one I would genuinely call bad. I enjoy wood-fired pizza and don't mind a little char, but somehow this pizza tasted noticeably bitter despite having very little visible charring. Whether it was the lack of sauce, the sauce itself being quite bland, or simply an imbalance of flavors, the end result just wasn't pleasant. The biggest issue is the value. A $25 cheese pizza doesn't need to be life-changing, but it should at least taste better than Costco's. In this case, unfortunately, it didn't. If your goal is to enjoy great pizza, I'd recommend one of the many other pizza spots in the area instead.

The bartender (Ryan!) was super friendly and made me an incredible Añejo old-fashioned with El Tesoro tequila. It was now happy hour, so I ordered a gluten-free spicy salami pizza. It was one of the best thin crust pizzas I have ever had! I thought about saving some of it for later, but I inhaled the whole thing. The sauce was perfectly proportioned. The spicy salami and cheese blend was incredible. I highly recommend this pizza! It up to you! Don't forget to ask about the daily pizza pie they are currently offering. I am gluten free. I am not celiac. I actively avoid gluten. Their GF crust is a great option. I remember the first time I got it I asked the server if this was the GF crust and they said it was. I was like amazing! Note to self: Yelp does not support emoji in reviews. The Shaker part of the restaurant name For me, the craft cocktails here are spectacular! There is a half page menu with 9 well thought out drinks. It changes regularly. Is it seasonally? I don't know. There are tasting notes and even the actual recipe for the drink! I've never seen that before. If something doesn't suit your fancy, ask for something off menu. Portland is a tough place for pizzerias since the variety & quality is so good throughout the city…read more But for 25+ (35?) years, this little slice-or-whole-pie place in NW 23rd has churned out the tied-for-best pizza in the city. It's true NY style, thin enough to fold if you're walking, the perfect amount of oily, with only the freshest of mozzarella. Slices are available at the counter (and a few stools if you're just having a quick lunch) all day. For a whole pie, call ahead to schedule (503-22-SLICE has been their number since I moved here decades ago) and they'll give you a time generally 20-35 minutes in the future depending on how busy they are. Staff are just like NYC: no suck-up, extra sarcasm, and if you stand at the register for 5+ minutes fumbling with your wallet, they might make a snide comment. But it's endearing grouchy, not really mean, and it adds to the "flavor" of the whole place. Parking in NW 23 is usually very hard. Being a friend to run in while you drive around the block, then enjoy how your car smells HEAVENLY on the way home!

Since we were going to be sitting at a table outside, I said we were sitting out there and didn't know what that was considered. The guy on the other side of the counter said something like, "You think the city puts those tables there and keeps them clean?" and some other rude remarks. Maybe they are trying to be New Yorkers and play the part? I don't know, I was jut put off by it. I waited for them to heat up the slices and then went outside to eat with my wife. The pizza was just "ok" and nothing like I remember. Between the attitude and the quality of food, we will not be returning.

For example, when the Arugula Salad is made well, it is fantastic. However we have had repeated experiences where the greens are not fresh, or the dressing is forgotten, or there is no cheese. We have had repeated issues specifically with takeout orders, over many years. Additionally, if you dine-in, there is an entire bottle of oil on the table that you are encouraged to use on your pizza. It is delicious, and really completes the pizza flavor profile! They used to automatically include two small containers of oil per pizza if you ordered to-go. Current policy appears to be to not include any oil with the pizza (unless explicitly asked) and to only provide a maximum of two oils (even if multiple pizzas are ordered). I don't know if there is an oil shortage or what, but this is silly for a place that charges so much for their pizza. Life of Pie is a typical Portland restaurant that expects you to tip before you receive your food (and also expects you to bus your own table). To me, this expectation alongside with the inconsistency of the food for the price, is disappointing, and does not encourage people to go out of their way to return. When the food is good it is a solid place, however I would expect much more consistency for the price they command.
