    Big Guy pre surgery
    Tori D.

When your everyday vet says "You need an orthopedic vet." It's scary! Luckily there is VetSurg. From the first visit which was so much more thorough than I could have imagined to the every follow up and freak out after they're kind and supportive. Our big dog (I'm talking 165lbs+) had TPLO surgery which was so scary. Dr. Holsworth took the time to explain EVERYTHING! His team was always the sweetest and most welcoming. Even as they moved locations they didn't skip a beat. Thank you to everyone at VetSurg for creating a welcoming environment that we knew we could trust the care of our dog in.

Initially I had a great experience... but that was 2 weeks ago... and now everything is different. My Corgi has a dislocated ankle, and I had just recently adopted him. Mind you, I haven't had a dog in 3 years, but that shouldn't matter. I have been proactive to get my pet the medical attention he needs. I only adopted him 8/15. Dr. Webb told me two weeks ago that my dog needed a fusion, that's the only option we were given, and we just needed to get him healed. He's an energetic pup, 11 mos old, and the Trazadone they'd been giving him seems to have amped him up. He got a splint and we were told to bring him back in a week. They gave me other medication to help to actually sedate him, and we were off. Unfortunately, his splint was dirty when we brought him in last week, as he had been active... and the front and back yard is dirt... so not surprising. We have been doing our best to keep him calm, but had not always been easy. Dr. Webb called me to tell me that our dog's splint was disgusting, and that we would have to take a step back on whether we would be having the surgery. I was surprised. I said that he had stepped in the pee, and I knew it was dirty, but it wasn't wet or anything. She was adamant that we needed to take a step back, and said that if we weren't diligent, he would need an amputation, if things weren't taken care of after the surgery. I mentioned that my husband had said "There's not much we can do to harm when it's been a month and a half since it was injured, before we got him" and so he had been more lax than I would have liked, and she said "Well, if your husband isn't on board, we should really take a step back." I never said he wasn't on board... he just wasn't as concerned about creating more harm... we just wanted to insure he was healing, which he has done beautifully! I have been really upset about this, and so when we visited today, I let the tech know that I'd like to talk to Dr. Webb, as she simply spoke to me on the phone last week. He called me later to tell me she would call me later, and that we would schedule the surgery in 2 weeks. Healing nicely, he said. The Dr. eventually did call, and all I can say is "No Bedside Manner"... It started off cordial, and then went into discussion of my discomfort with the direction of her pulling back, and with her pointedly saying it was because of the ONE dirty splint. She later added on "this isn't the first time..." which, in fact it was... we have only seen them for 2 weeks, and that "from what the staff tells me he has not been properly crated and he's been left to run around at home... I asked her where she got that information from, as she hadn't asked me anything, and that isn't what had transpired over the last week... She then said "perhaps we aren't the right place for you and your dog". That they were only interested in what's best for my dog. I was shocked. She was basing her decisions on one dirty splint, and hearsay... and my expressing concern about her pulling back, and not wanting to do his surgery... If you want to work with someone who will communicate with you, get the facts, and be a partner with you in planning your success, then don't use VetSurg. I felt set up for failure, and when I tried to explain that I had been working to get a cart for him to insure his success, she had mentioned that that was great, but that she would never have suggested it because it was too expensive. You think $8500 for surgery isn't expensive? Carts are offered for loan, so WHY NOT tell someone...? I had planned for his success, knowing he was an 11 month old pup... Why wouldn't she have...? Thank you for releasing me, as I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt... unfortunately that was more than you were willing to give me. Never working with VetSurg again.

My dog, Charley, an American Staffordshire Terrier mix had torn both of his ACL's back in the spring of 2022. He couldn't go for long walks anymore without limping. I was worried about his condition, being only 5 years old at the time. As a resident of Santa Barbara, I knew the vet bill would not be cheap. I was recommended Advanced Veterinary Specialist (AVS) being told they were the best. They did an initial evaluation on his condition which cost me over $600 just to look at him! They then quoted me $8,000 to perform the TPLO surgery just for one knee. Sharon Shields at AVS told me that doing one knee at a time was her preference over both knees at once because it was too "hard" on the dog. The next knee surgery would have cost me an additional $5,000! This was WAY out of my budget and felt they were price gouging me. I proceeded to look elsewhere and found VetSurg in Ventura. Courtney Campbell did the initial evaluation and explained Charley was young enough to have both knees done at the same time. I was apprehensive after what Sharon Shields told me at AVS, but Dr. Campbell assured me that it was not uncommon for him to perform double TPLO surgery on most dogs. The upside was the cost was much lower AND it meant Charley would only have ONE surgery and ONE recovery. I went with his suggestion and with a price quote of $9,000. This was much more affordable. I decided to go ahead with some worry on my end. It has now been over 7 months since Charley's surgery and I am AMAZED at how well he has been doing. Charley no longer limps after long walks and appears to have a lot more energy and seems happy. He even has a bounce in his hind legs which he never had before. He is happy and healthy and had no complications after surgery! I am thoroughly pleased with Dr. Campbell's expertise, as well as the staff at VetSurg. They did a professional job taking care of Charley and would highly recommend all dog owners to go to VetSurg if their dog is suffering from torn ligaments. Thank you, Dr. Campbell, and everyone else at VetSurg. I am so happy my dog, Charley, is back to his normal self and even more so in his health and well being.

    Dogs cast with her name

If I could give Vetsurg a million 5 star reviews I would. The over the top customer service to not only me but to my pet was incredible. My pup had knee surgery yesterday with Dr Webb and they went above and beyond to keep me in the loop of what is going on, how she's feeling and even sending all the updates X-rays and aftercare papers before I even came in to get her. The aftercare instructions were so detailed that it's hard to mess up what to do! My dog is truly my life and always nervous to leave her somewhere but I felt incredibly comfortable and safe with Dr Webb and the entire team at Vetsurg. I can not recommend them enough. They even decorated my sweet pups cast with some Palm trees and her name. HIGHLY RECOMMEND and thank you to the best team!

We want to take the time and this opportunity to thank Dr. Webb and the staff at VetSurg. We were referred here by our specialist veterinarian for a specialized surgery that our Whoodle needed. Turns out our dog needed surgery to correct her digestive tract. It's been a heart wrenching month working through our dog's issues. Dr. Webb was wonderful to work with. Communication was excellent throughout, the doctor always kept us apprised of our dog's progress and we were encouraged to contact the staff for updates on our dog's post surgical care. I'm not sure we would have had such a positive outcome if not for the doctors and compassionate staff at VetSurg.

My malinois is 11 weeks out from TPLO surgery and I have nothing but compliments for everyone at VetSurg. From the staff to my surgeon Dr Webb, my girl received the very best treatment and outcome. They were patient, kind, honest, and proactive, everything you'd want when trusting your beloved pet with a surgical veterinary group. Every question and refill of a script, but handled efficiently and quickly. I highly recommend them.

We met with Dr. Campbell for my American Bulldogs spindle cell tumor on her ribs. He has a great bedside manner [covid protocol, we spoke on the phone while my dog was inside the hospital]. He mentioned how much the stuff was enjoying my gentle giant of a dog [and her pearl collar], which I always love hearing! He recommended a CT scan and biopsy for a definitive diagnosis, which I agreed with 100% - I believe it took about 3 weeks to get in for this procedure. He called me 6 days after her procedure with results, which unfortunately found additional cancer in her heart and pancreas. Dr. Campbell was very empathetic and thorough on the phone. I greatly appreciate his time and expertise! My only complaint would be when we picked her up from her procedure she was covered in her own urine [I'm a veterinary technician at a small general practice] so I'm sure she urinated in her kennel and laid in it. But a quick wipe down would have been appreciated so she didn't soak my car in urine and smell so strongly for the 1 1/2 hour drive back home. We had previously met with Dr. Holsworth about 2 years before for her arthritis and he was also amazing, knowledgable and very thorough in her exam and diagnosed her with sciatica, which had gone undiagnosed until his exam. He prescribed a new medication for her which has helped her move around so much more comfortably that the average person would never know she has arthritis, sciatica and a bad back. As a very picky pet parent, I highly recommend both of these doctors and this practice! Olive Oil and I thank you so much!

Love this place! The people are very supportive and helpful. No question is ridiculous. The doctor, Dr. Ian, has been so kind, thorough and wonderful. His analysis of my fur baby's situation was perfect. The surgery went so well. They communicate the whole way. They keep you informed of everything. We are on the road to recovery and couldn't even happier. And the cost? Quite reasonable. Love VetSurg doctors and staff. Thank you so much for taking care of my big baby

And they tenderly helped me care for him in his final time on this planet. They are compassionate, knowledgeable, and genuinely seem to care. It was important for me that he died at home so that the other two pets could know that he was gone to assist in their grieving. Dr. Pasek comes to your home for veterinary care, eliminating the difficulty and stress of schelping senior dogs to the animal clinic. At almost 16 years old, Scout's health was declining as she started to have a lot of medical issues that are common for older dogs. It became nearly impossible to transport her to our Vet's office. Scout weighed in at 60 pounds, she could barely see or hear and was so stressed when in the car. Thank God for Dr. Pasek who could examine and treat Scout in the comfort of our home. Over the past few months, Dr. Pasek advised us on how to assess Scout's Quality of Life and when to determine the 'right' time to let her go. She and her staff were kind, caring, professional and patient making this difficult time more manageable. When the time came to end our darling Scout's life, Dr. Pasek and her staff provided a beautiful ending to a beautiful life. In our serene backyard where Scout frolicked her whole life, she was put to 'sleep' surrounded with love and then taken away for Aquamation. Afterwards, Dr. Pasek presented us with a book she wrote about grieving for your pet. It was well-written, heart-felt and offered great constructive advice on coping with the loss of a pet. The next day, a single rose arrived on our doorstep in memory of Scout's passing from Dr. Pasek. We highly recommend her services. Dr. Pasek is a top-notch vet and a really nice person. A family came late with their two dogs, and Smiling Canines tried to squeeze them between other dogs' appointment times, but it was a hassle for both the family and business. After I filled out and signed some paperwork, the staff immediately took my little dog in to have his teeth cleaned. The whole appointment lasted maybe 30 minutes. They also have a small store pet you can look in while you wait for your dog; otherwise, you can stay in your car or sit in a chair outside. Unfortunately, I paid $250 because I had not kept on my dog's teeth, and he had a lot of tartar buildup. So he will need to come back in another six months for another cleaning, and my good boy deserves the best. Thank you, Smiling Canines, for vastly improving my dog's teeth - and breath!
