Veterinary Medical & Surgical Group (2199 Sperry Ave, Vta,CA)
I Returned home from an 11 day vacation, first stop was to m friends house to pick up my 5 yrs old cocker Spaniel from family friend. 'Roxy' did wag her tail profusely she was glad to see me but as soon as in the car I realized all was not right, she was collapsing in my arms not able to pull herself up to stick her head out the window. My heart fell, it was Sunday afternoon and I had no idea where to take her. My Son looked up Veterinary Medical Surgical Group, the only 24/7 pet emergency hospital in Ventura. The lobby was empty except for the lovely young Ladies at the counter, as soon as I crossed through the doorway they went into immediate action with kindness and concern in their eyes they whisked her into the back to be examined. In a short while I was called to the back to speak with the Veterinarian. He said she needed an emergency hysterectomy and cost could be between $5,000-6,000. I was mortified I knew I couldn't come up with that kind of money but at the same time I couldn't abandon my 'little girl'. The Vet, with compassion explained they wanted to help and to give them a few minutes. Shortly, Mandy, a Veterinarian Intern, appeared and said she had been making calls around to some of her vet colleagues that were a little closer to full fledged Veterinarian status at a vet hospital in the valley. She had negotiated on our behalf to get a price which she hoped I would be able to handle. I was ecstatic. When it comes to the love of a family member money should never factor in except when it does.
That was 2 weeks ago and she is now almost back to 100% health. I've had a chance to reflect back on the encounter. First I can't explain how grateful I am that this facility exists - the facility itself, the years and years of schooling and training each and every person there has been thru, THE HEART all the team members put into their work. They had even called a few times to check up on her recovery. So this Sunday I baked a (hopefully) delicious banana-peach coffee cake and am taking over to them along with bouquet of flowers from my yard and of course, my bouncing happy Roxy as a visual representation of my gratitude. I'll try to take a picture and post it along with this review - gonna need my Sons help on that one. read more
