I woke up to find my boxer puppy covered in hives with a swollen face, which was really scary. We called ahead since they're about an hour and a half from our home, and they were ready for us when we arrived. I was greeted immediately, and both the vet and technician came out to assess him right away. They recommended a steroid and Benadryl, which helped bring the swelling down. What really stood out to me was how the vet personally greeted us upon arrival--it felt much more attentive and reassuring compared to other emergency vet experiences I've had. While we were waiting for his medication, a customer care representative even came by to offer snacks and drinks, which was such a thoughtful touch during a stressful time. So I cannot speak to their skills with animals, but I can speak to how I was treated. I was traveling through the area when my dog was attacked. It was early morning, and by the time I got to the emergency vet, it was around 8 a.m. on a weekday. They quoted me a bill that was a bit too high for my budget but offered to help me find another vet with an opening for surgery that morning at a lower cost. I felt very respected and relaxed it was a smooth and calming environment. **Highly recommend the people at this office. I've never used an Emergency service for my pup before and I had to recently. My veterinarian/clinic highly recommended VEG and I am so glad I went. My 16yr old chihuahua mix had her first episode where she collapsed on her side, peed on the ground while frozen and had shallow breathing. At one point she stopped breathing and I thought she crossed the rainbow bridge, but she took a deep breath and came back. I had never seen anything like this before and I thought she had a seizure. The episode lasted 2-3 minutes. I called my Vet and they told me to take her to VEG so I did. Immediately, the team welcomed me to their open space and I heard "Triage!" and their team was ready to check out my pup, Roxie. They took her weight, temperature and asked me what had happened. By the time Roxie was checked out by Dr. Jacobs, we suspected Roxie might have had seizures. Roxie was pretty normal/back to herself and did not display any other symptoms that day. They told me I could come back if anything changed. Roxie ended up having another episode later that evening (after barking). She was back to her normal self after the episode passed. However, the next morning, she had another episode and her breathing was more shallow. I ended up taking her back to VEG. I was able to share a video of her most recent episode. Immediately, Roxie went in for x-rays and blood work. I was able to watch everything the team was doing. Roxie was comfortable. She was given several medications through her vein catheter. The assistant at the time (Katie) kept checking in on us, provided a blanket for Roxie to be comfortable, and they offered coffee, water and snacks. Dr. Jacobs let me know Roxie had congestive heart failure and let me know different options (medications) and it's been 6 days on the medication and Roxie hasn't had another episode. Everyone was so kind and compassionate. I saw how they were taking care of other families, cats and dogs while I was there. Dr. Jacobs also took on medical inquiries over the phone (lot of pets consuming things they probably shouldn't have over the holidays). They were also able to call in a specialty person to schedule an ultrasound for 2 cats while I was there. I also appreciated that Dr. Jacobs put together an estimate of the services they would provide before going forward with the procedures/meds. I HIGHLY recommend VEG. They are open 24/7 and also are available by phone. I am so glad I went and would go back again. Thank you so much to Katie (Vet Assistant) and Dr. Jacobs (Vet) for your care and compassion for my Roxie. She's much more comfortable and has a better respiratory rate. read more

Beware of such a place taking advantage of people at a vulnerable time. My 12 year old dog with a heart murmur was coughing, uncontrollably at times, for a few days. I checked his heart rate and took his temp. Both were normal. Knowing it could be a sign of heart failure, I brought him in to have him checked out early in the am. Upon arrival they took his temp (2X and quite aggressively I might add..), listened to his heart and tried, but failed, to get his O2 rate. We then waited - and waited - and waited. I thought maybe something was lodged in his throat - but they never looked or felt the area. I then decided to leave since I couldn't wait any longer and my dog had not exhibited the cough. When I mentioned I was leaving and asked if I owed anything, one employee told me no, yet the front desk woman informed me I owed $230 - for taking a temp and using a stethoscope! WOW! I paid it and left. My dog began couching in the car - I took a video of it and walked back in VEG to be told to sit and wait again. When a vet came to speak with me I showed her the video, she recommended an x ray. She then told me she'd get back to me with an estimate (?) - the estimate - for one x-ray...over $700. Needless to say I left. My dog is fine - I believe it was allergies. read more

Last month we brought our dog in for HGE. She spent 34 hours at VEG and we were billed nearly 6 thousand dollars. When I went to check on her because she wouldn't eat for them, she was terrified, covered in her own feces, was in a cage with feces all over the wall, and she had uncleaned wounds. In short, not the level of care we would expect at a place that charges significantly more than other emergency vets in the area. To top it off, as we left we requested to switch to Carecredit, as we were promised that we could, and the discharge person refused and said it was too late to do so. We took our dog home and she was later admitted to another emergency vet with continued HGE. The contrast to how she was treated there was night and day. At that hospital she stayed for a slightly longer time, she was happy and excited each time we visited her, she was returned completely cleaned and groomed, her wounds were well cared for, and the cost was less than half of what was charged by VEG. When they called they never once pushed for more money, just talked about how things were going and assured us that we were still well within estimates. When our dog was discharged, they quickly helped us apply for Carecredit and we were on our way with a dog on the mend. After discharge we filled out a survey and that got the attention of VEG. Over the last 40 days we have held off on writing a review as we worked with them. They seemed genuinely sorry, wanted to prove to us that they would change and do better, and then this week we received our resolution. 10% off our bill, and corporate was no longer willing to share what changes they planned to make in order to avoid this in the future. In that 40 days we have also learned that vets around the community have heard similar stories to ours with VEG. They all had heard about it, but were reluctant to talk about it, they would seriously lower their voice when talking about it. At this point, while I appreciate the efforts of the local medical director and people in customer service, it's clear that the larger corporation has intervened to limit how much they can make this right. I cannot in good conscience stand by and let others go through what we did. I hope they make changes, but their refusal to have continued transparency doesn't give me any confidence in that happening. read more

Greedy and money hungry. They don't care about your pets only $$$$. No compassion when it comes to pet parents dealing with a stressful situation. Ran out of medication for my cat, for an illness they diagnosed. All other vets are closed, so of course, unless I PAY to bring him in for an exam and tests, they won't give it to us. They rather me pay them $300+ than give my cat his $24 medication that could result in a hypertensive event if he doesn't have it. Just money hungry assholes. I brought my cat a little over month ago, and they "don't feel comfortable". Seems to be a common thing nowadays where vets are forcing you to spend money and pushing for tests you don't need. They know people will do anything for their pets, and they feed off of that. Greedy and disgusting. My primary vet gave my cat a prescription you should be able to fill it. & don't even get me started on how it took 5+ hours for care and tests, while I was there in August. Staff was sitting around eating, laughing, having a good time while I'm distraught at 3am waiting HOURS. It's ridiculous. Extremely expensive for mediocre care. There was one lady there that I feel actually cared and was nice. Absolutely not a welcoming atmosphere. read more

Provided good care, however was SO EXPENSIVE. I have had bloodwork for my cat done elsewhere for $50. Here it cost $670, and they were unwilling to work out any sort of deal for low income or because I was paying out of pocket without insurance. I understand increased prices because it is on demand instead of by appointment, but a 1300% increase seems ridiculous. read more

This clinic is top notch. When I came in they triaged quickly. They medicallly supported my injured cat. They emotionally supported me. Caring and compassionate all the way around. I hope you never need emergency care for your pet, but I recommend VEG if you do. read more
