I drove 80 miles one way because my vet in Oshkosh referred me here. My 20 month old kitten had crystals and stones but this time he seemed very sick but was not blocked. They did the appropriate tests and kept me informed well. Every single doctor and vet tech was kind and listened to my concerns. I got at least three updates a day while he was hospitalized. It looks like he's going home tomorrow after 3 days inpatient. I won't go into all of the kittens conditions and issues because that would take a book to list. I seriously will return here if he ever needs ER care. There is a Bluepearl ER a bit closer but I will never set foot in there after waiting 5-8 hours to see a vet. read more

We found ourselves back at the UW Emergency Room over the weekend because our kitten found her way into eating a lily plant, which we learned are cat poison, basically. We brought all three cats who had potentially been exposed and ER Tech Kasey and Dr. Anderson received us at close to 1:00 am and stuck it out with us until last 3:15 am. They took care of all three of our kids, making sure that the kitten threw up and we could flush out the toxins as soon as possible. They understood the need to treat and examine the other cats and they were upfront with information, costs, procedures, injections, etc. I'm so glad they were there when we needed them. On recommendation, I returned and brought two of them for follow up bloodwork and Dr. Taylor helped us out, again treating our kids with so much care and making me feel better as a cat mom. This a review for Alexis Davidson, DVM - UW Veterinary Care. We went to the UW Veterinary Care in July on July 25th, 2024 because my 3 years old rabbit Pineapple has a clear discharge (like tears) from the left eye since November 2023. Our family veterinarian referred me to the University of Madison to get the CT Scan done. The day of the appointment a nurse asked me lot of questions to recap 10 months of history of my rabbit problem, even if my veterinarian sent a complete medical record for two times. After the visit Alexis Davidson came to talk and she proposed a skull CT scan without contrast, a culture from the liquid used to flush the left eye. I accepted. At the end of the day after the CT Scan done, Alexis Davidson said my rabbit was fine, no issue, maybe a chronic condition (Culture results was pending but they didn't find growing). I received the discharge letter. My veterinarian talked about an error on the discharge report as they report the tear duct of the right eye was clogged that day, but the problem of my rabbit was the LEFT eye not the right. Some weeks later we went to see an ophthalmology and she had several questions to redirect Dott. Davidson: - Is she an exotic specialist? - Why we went to the oncology and not to the ophthalmology? - Why the doctor didn't do the CT with contrast to be sure the tear duct was closed (I was open to use the contrast - ultimate decision to the Doctor). How the doctor performed the CT Scan? With a camera inside the mouth of my rabbit or from outside? All questions that this eye specialist will never get answered. - BUT especially why on the report they tipped the right duct was closed as the problem was on the left eye. I could not answer to these questions, the ophthalmology tries to reach out Dr. Davidson to then UW Veterinary Care, but she didn't find anyone with this name so, she though Dr. Davidson has left the University. Yesterday I had another appointment with an ophthalmology, I have started 10 days ago to try to reach out Dr. Davidson at the phone to get answered the questions listed above and to understand why it was impossible to find out Dr. Davidson on the website of the university. The lady at the phone told because she is an interim. I was really surprised because I was looking to meet an experienced Veterinarian and considering we paid over than $1115 for the appointment I was not expected to meet an interim clinician. The lady at the phone suggested to ask at my veterinarian to send an email to Dr. Davidson... For 10 days I have tried to call, left several messages, asked a recall before yesterday at 2 pm (time of my appointment with the ophthalmology) but it was literally impossible to talk with Dr. Davidson. While I was at the phone with a front desk Dr. Davidson asked to send me the discharge (3 times in a row). But all the Doctors already had the discharge report of Pineapple. So, Dr. Davidson didn't want to talk to me for 5 minutes, but she had time for the report? At the appointment the ophthalmology said like the other doctors the report was confused and wrong as the problem was the left eye not the right. I would like to recall attention and ask why Dr. Alexis Davidson didn't want to talk to me before my appointment? Why were we meet by an interim and not by a veterinarian with experience? Why the information on the discharge has been incorrect? Which eye she treated the day of the appointment? I have decided to post a review on the website of UW Veterinary Care about Dr. Davidson and the nurse who talked to me to me saying the Dr. did not use the contrast because I refused it. That's not true, it has been a decision of the Doctor, not mine. Yesterday I have received a call from the university from the office and after the conversation my feeling is even more consistent. The lady at the phone said the case of my bunny has been considered not complicated, that's why we met an interim. She also said that an experienced veterinarian has review the Dr. Davidson evaluation, but I have never seen or talked with this Doctor and he never took my calls while Dr. Davidson was not available to grab the phone to talk with me. On the discharge, there is not any other name over Dr. Davidson listed under Clinicians. The main question is how they decided the case of my bunny was not difficult before to visit her the day of the appointment? My rabbit since 11 month is dealing with this discharge from the left eye, she had bacteria like MOREXELLA and STAPH high resistance, she has been seen from the top of the specialists with 30-40 years of experience, but nobody has found the cause of the problem. If it has been a non-complicated case, why Dr. Davidson didn't find the cause? She said Chronic Condition, but this is not a diagnosis, it is a consequence of a problem she has never understood. My feeling is that Pineapple is a bunny, not a dog so we were good to go with an interim with a limited experience (maybe not in Exotic). Very Sad ! read more

We took our 16 year old cat to the UW ER vet last night at 6:30 because he had stopped eating and seemed to be in pain- he was growling when we pet him, which was highly unusual. After asking us some questions they took him in back and said it would be at least 20-30 minutes, and then we sat in the waiting room for 3 hours with no word. When the vet finally spoke with us she said she wasn't able to do a full exam because the cat was growling, and that further tests would require sedation, which we didn't want to do. Today we took him to Oregon Vet and they did a urinalysis, bloodwork for liver and kidney values, blood pressure check and x-ray, all without sedation. They also noticed that he had 3 claws that had gotten so long they had actually punctured his toe pads, and that one of those wounds was infected. The UW vet didn't even see this. Their report actually states 'no obvious lameness' and 'unable to perform oral exam as patient muzzled for exam'. It also says that they were unable to take his temperature, 'unable to do a CRT test' (due to muzzle), 'unable to evaluate BV sounds due to growling', and 'unable to access CN with muzzle'. They were able however to charge us $234 for an incomplete exam which failed to notice an obvious problem and some overpriced gabapentin which cost almost 10x more than it would at our regular vet. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

Wanted to take our tortoise there but because we had received antibiotic in the past from a different vet they decided to bill us as a referral for 2.5 times the cost and were unwilling to discuss. Just not caring or understanding people and don't care about animals' well-being. read more

We brought our sweet 6.5 year old boy dog here for an MRI. It's with a heavy heart that the results from the MRI didn't go our way, and we made the difficult decision to do what's best for our pup. I had an awesome experience coming here with our 8-year-old Shitzu. All the staff were incredibly friendly and you could tell LOVED animals. Their faces lit up at every dog/animal they saw. They were very thorough with their treatment plan and we felt as though they really cared for our dog Snickers. They walked us through every single procedure and test they were doing and kept us informed at every step of the process. It was quite a drive for us to get here but it was worth it and would highly suggest this place for conditions or problems that are too specialized for your normal vet! read more

My cat and I have always had the best experiences here. The breadth and depth of care available is amazing. I've had interactions with Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Cardiology, and Nuclear Medicine. All of the doctors seem very knowledgeable in their fields. It's a teaching hospital, so sometimes I feel like I'm repeating myself a lot. But I understand that the residents are learning their craft, so patience is necessary at times. Overall, this is probably the best veterinary hospital in the Midwest. read more

After $7200 in treatment while they had our Lab and a pharmacy full of drugs since early to mid December they still as of January 9th have not made a definitive diagnosis nor will they communicate with our primary care vet. One of those "Oh we think it is" diagnosis. They had him for a week. And at this moment he is as bad if not worse than when we took him to UWVC. And they won't communicate with us either. Our pet Beardie Dragon Lizard (Diamond) was taken to the UW for an emergency as she was not breathing well, her color was off, and she was very lethargic. During the visit we were asked if we wanted to do extensive testing on Diamond to determine the cause of the illness. Such testing would be about $1,000.00 for a CT scan in addition to the emergency fee which was quoted as $200.00-300.00. However, we were advised that Diamond's chances looked slim and was suggested by the vet that we allow Diamond to be euthanized. We elected not to euthanize and pick up Diamond so that our 9 year old son could say goodbye and give a proper burial on our property. Upon pickup Diamond was not released until we paid the vet bill which was 50% more than what was quoted to us over the phone. We paid in the hopes of getting Diamond home in time for our son to say "goodbye". The vet team lost track of Diamond requiring me to make another call into the office for Diamond to be released. Payment had been made and along with Covid procedures I was left waiting in the parking lot for our pet for an additional 20 minutes after receiving payment to return Diamond to me. The extended wait was too long and unfortunately Diamond failed to make it home for our son to say goodbye. We are forever hurt that the staff at the UW Clinic could be so insensitive to push services for animal which clearly was not able to be saved. Furthermore, having us wait for pickup knowing the animal was dying is cruel to a little boy who is waiting to say "goodbye". Last but not least the misquoting of service costs and excessive charging of service cost at such an emotional time makes one feel violated. We never found out the cause of death or the treatment. The bill just indicated visit. The front desk receptionist did say "sorry" for the delay and the misquote. All in all, the services at the UW did not live up to the standard we've come to expect at the human clinics and the low level of sensitivity feels almost criminal. We were told that next time the fee would be $85.00 for a visit and sorry for the misquote. Pets are family members who we entrust to others for care. Please make sure you have selected an organization which cares about your family's feeling in your time of crises and not one that holds your dying family member hostage. read more

Amazing staff from the receptionists, techs, oncologists, and surgeons. Our Chester had a mast cell tumor on his lip in July 2015 and a team of oncologists and surgeons worked tirelessly to walk us through the procedures in plain, layman terms. The chemotherapy treatments and surgery was a success. Three months later we discovered another mast on Chester's lip around the same area as the first time. We didn't think twice about bringing him to UW again. We went through the same process as before, they laid out our options, their recommendations, and the estimate for each treatments. Chester had his surgery for the second battle against cancer. This time he will need 18 treatments of radiation therapy following surgery. Articles have said again and again that UW has the country's most advanced equipment and innovated treatment approaches. We feel so fortunate that Chester will be treated with the latest radiation therapy at UW. A special thanks to Jean who goes out of the way each time to greet us and showing general enthusiasm during a difficult time. Thanks for making us smile! read more

My husband and I had a great experience at the UW vet. We were very unsure about whether we should bring our brand new kitten in or not, but we ended up so glad that we did -- even though he ended up not needing emergency care. As brand new pet parents, we were Googling our kitty's symptoms and reading about horrifying potential diagnoses. I called UW first, and they gave me some general advice over the phone but also said we were very welcome to bring Preston in if we wanted to. I decided that it would be better for my peace of mind to take him in and I was so glad in the end. The people on the phone were friendly, professional, and helpful. They clearly explained procedures and pricing. For this emergency visit the cost was $110. The office, waiting rooms, and exam rooms were spotless. As a person with animal allergies, I can appreciate the cleanliness and noticed that the student was conscientious about keeping Preston in a circumscribed area so she could clean up after seeing him, since he had an upper respiratory infection. Dr. Eitzer and 4th year student Sarah Levine put us completely as ease about Preston's health and taking care of him. They really clearly explained things and made me feel confident that Preston would be ok and that it was ok that we brought him in. They also clearly explained other things we needed to do to take care of him (first vet visit, clean his eyes when they are runny) that made life much easier. They gave us plenty of time and let us ask questions. I really felt comfortable and felt like my newbie questions were respected fully. Shortly after the visit, I received a copy of the medical records in my email, and when I called the office forwarded them to Preston's new primary care vet. Great experience overall. read more

I found a stray I wanted to keep and care for but I wanted to make sure it did not have a chip first. The dog was healthy, well trained and a very rare breed. When I took it to the UW clinic, the nurse ran a chip reader over the dog and claimed he had a chip. She even went so far as to state that there was a phone number she was reading on it. The next day a woman who had just adopted the dog from the Humane society for an insane amount of money (WITH UW's ADDED FEE FOR AN OVERNIGHT AND CHECKUP) called me to let me know the dog was ok. I asked why the owner that chipped the dog had given it up. BOTH she and the humane society, I called later informed me that the dog had no chip. The Humane society worker informed me that UW vet clinic does this regularly when anyone wants to check an animal for a chip. They make money from the animals on MASSIVE overnight and check up fees that they are compensated by the humane society and any person wanting to adopt the animal later. They even make money if the animal is killed. read more

Love. That is what lives in this facility. Love. Love for animals and love for their owners. We live in the Chicagoland area and our vet recommended that we take our 3 1/2 year golden retriever to the veterinary at the University of Wisconsin Vet School to see a dermatologist. Our furry guy had very uncomfortable itching. We tried a few different things with our vet, but had no luck. We called their office and made an appointment. It took a few months for the first available dermatology appointment. They were very pleasant and made sure we had all the information we needed before coming. We made the trek to Madison. Our furry guy couldn't be happier. First of all, our guy loves car rides. Second of all. We had to take off work so he got extra human time. Third of all, he loves going to the vet. Any vet. When you get there, you do need to be careful where to park and to get a pass so you don't get a ticket. They give you information about that before you come and it's posted on their entrance door. It is a teaching school, so you have your regular staffing as well as lots of students around. Our furry guy just thought this was awesome-more people to pet him. Some animals were struggling coming in. So the staff was awesome about helping them. Of course, we didn't have that problem. Ours didn't want to leave. We had a short wait in the lobby. Always good when you have lots of different dogs waiting. We were taken back to a room by a lovely student. The room had 4 different students and a vet tech. They were very thorough in gathering information from us. After that compress done, our two dermatologists came in. They were both very professional, extremely knowledgeable, and affectionate towards our guy. They received the information from the students, asked us a few more questions, went through a problem solving cycle with everyone, and answered our questions. Finally, we left with a through medical plan, medications to pick up at the pharmacy there, and hope that our guy would be much re comfortable in his skin. They asked us to call or email to check in since we didn't live close. They have been great about guiding us and returning our calls/emails. They truly are there to support you. We'll continue our treat with them for our guy. I hope we don't need to visit them in the future, no offense, unless our furry guy just needs more love then from us. But if so, we won't hesitate to go back. Love! read more

I tried UW for my small terrier bc he needs surgery on his left join due to a Legg-Calve-Perthes. As I'm speaking with the tech on the phone, I asked to make the appointment but was told that they need to see the scan first. I contacted my original vet's office to see if they send the scan as he's to be cc on the emails they send them and I have received it immediately, called the tech she said they haven't received it, back and forth a week later. This didn't seem right plus the tech need some manners bc I'm trying to again explain that I'm copied to the email it the I received it, finally when I send her she asked for a diagnosis from the original vet, I told her that's why I send her the scans for them to give me a second opinion not to just repeat what was written. They don't do that she said, only when I come in and they need to put the dog with anaesthesia that's $800 and there's a long wait two months. This didn't seem right, so I asked how much is the procedure she didn't know and couldn't tell till the vet sees him. The entire time two weeks later I have no answers, meanwhile I call other vets the same day they receive the scan and vets call me with the amount and diagnose which is roughly $4000 no scans needed bc I have them. The UW tech finally decided to call me with a price $3900-$4900, wow plus $800 for the scan, I was told this place has lower prices but they are double the price in my area. two weeks lost. I don't recommend this place, from the tech that was snobby on the phone told me she didn't revive emails from my prior vet to telling me the scans need to be done again, nothing made sense. Found a vet by me for a fraction of the price under $2000 had amazing reviews and the same day within an hour gives me all the answers. I had scheduled surgery for my dog in a week, not two months. Don't waste your time these kids need to wake up that work there, they're not vets yet and a bad attitude. read more

we have cared for rabbits over the last 20 years. bases on our experience my wife and I knew the differential would be gut stasis. they wouldn't prescribe the medication all our rabbits have had success with in the past. so, they had to run all the to test and send us home with some anti-inflammatory med that didn't address our bunny's issue. Of course we had to go back the following morning in hopes we'd get a different vet, as there was no poop or urine in the litter box. We hope to get a different vet, which we did, who listened to us and valued our experience. The other vet just graduated vet-school, was too proud to say "she doesn't know much about rabbits" and wouldn't listen. the medication itself would have cost no more than $75. but for the two day visit and all the work done it cost us $1100. read more

Their negligence nearly resulted in the death of my cat. The vet offered me a choice between very expensive care I couldn't afford an an antibiotic. I chose the antibiotic. The vet said my cat had a 50/50 chance. I said I don't want her to suffer extra if she might not make it. The real problem was the vet tech. I asked if they anesthetized my cat. She said no (they did - she was wrong). I asked how to tell if the antibiotic wasn't working since the vet said it might be pneumonia but might be cancer. The vet tech described symptoms that are also symptoms of recovery from anesthesia. I asked how to tell if the drug was working. The vet tech said it wouldn't- my cat was dying 100%. I got angry because I had been very clear to put the cat down in that case. The cat looked like she was dying based on the vet tech's advice. I was freaking out. My baby was suffering. The next day I took my cat to the North Side vet clinic (BEST VET EVER). I asked them to put my poor cat down. Dr. Brooks told me my cat wasn't dying. She gave her a bunch of inexpensive treatments for a fraction of what UW wanted to charge. My cat lived. She's fine. But she nearly died because of the vet tech at UW who said they didn't do anesthesia and misled me that the post-anesthesia symptoms meant she was dying. read more

When our Aussie of 12 years became sick, we were referred by our regular vet to a cardiologist. Living in the Chicago area, there aren't a lot of options for cardiologists, and they tend to have a long wait time to get in for an appointment. We could not wait to get our girl in so we drove up to Madison to have her seen. The vet staff in cardiology were amazing, thoroughly explained what was wrong and what the treatment plan was. They answered all calls and emails, and worked with us to help keep our girl as comfortable as possible. They clearly explained that the disease was degenerative and that they could help keep things from progressing as quickly as if she was on no medication. Then they continued to work with our regular vet to continue her treatment and check-ups. Their treatment plan really helped make her more comfortable. Last night we sadly had to say goodbye to our girl, but I will be forever grateful for the compassion, caring, and expertise offered by the cardiologists at the clinic. read more

Back in October, I unexpectedly had to rush my Holland lop to the emergency clinic. The staff was so so so kind and understanding through the tough circumstances that took place. I felt heard, and although I was quite distraught with the state of my rabbit, the staff was calm and caring with her. Our dog was known to our vet as the dog who had all the oddities. Funny but true. Too long to list but when our vet wanted a second opinion they sent us to UW. They always properly diagnosed him and he had illnesses that weren't common at all. He passed from cancer that the UW pro longed for us. They gave us every option --even the cheapest--and what they'd do if he was their own pet. The staff at front is kind too and with the chaos I've seen happening I am amazed how calm all are. Our house rabbit Lily Cheeseball has been suffering from an ongoing upper respiratory infection. We'd taken her to our local vet multiple times over the past months; nothing was helping and we were running out of options. During her last visit, they suggested UW Veterinary Care in Madison. I'm so glad they did. What a wonderful place with incredible resources. We felt so welcome, from the moment we walked in. Cheeseball is fawned over wherever she goes so we're used to a warm reception when in her company, but they definitely go the extra mile here. They were gentle and thorough with their examination while also making sure they had clearance from us on each and every procedure that they performed on her. Afterward, the diagnosis and treatment was laid out for us in clear language that we could follow. Sometimes veterinarians will forget that you don't share their knowledge base and they'll talk fast, leaving you with unanswered questions. This experience couldn't have been more opposite. I suppose that's a perk of going to a university clinic--this is a place of education after all. The examining room was full of thank you notes and pictures of fluffy patients, so I know we aren't the only ones who appreciate the professionalism and compassion of those who work here. We've been on the treatment program for several weeks now and are so relieved to be seeing signs of improvement in our little bun. read more

It blows my mind that I am a first reviewer... I think there must be another on here that I can't find. Nonetheless- 5 star review, watch out. We went to a specialist in Chicago for our dog's juvenile cataracts and could not have had a worse experience... so driving to Madison seemed a little crazy, but worth it. 300+ miles of driving later, half the price, twice the service, and a completely different diagnosis later I am glad I went. Getting there was easy, parking is available. The waiting room was what you would expect, very clean for the amount of animals in there. I waited all of about 4 minutes before I was called back. A number of students came in and saw Cora (my dog) before the attending ophthalmologist came in. With 3 different opinions on the line, 2 of them full-fledged and well practiced vets... I trusted what I heard. We left, it was well worth the drive. I urge others to go here! read more

I'm amazed at how much she remembers about them each time we come in. I've also had only positive experiences with others I've come in contact with including the front desk and vet techs. As a student myself, I appreciate it being a teaching hospital and giving students the opportunity to directly interact with the pets and owners. My dog came down with a couple of hot spots (I heard of them but never seen them before). I went to work when they were about the size of quarters and when I got home the largest one was the size of a grapefruit and her hair was no longer white; it was brown and matted into the wound. I called my vet and he is on vacation. I called numerous vets in my area and none of them would see her as they didn't have openings until late August or later. I called UW emergency room as I was in tears trying to find some comfort for her. From the time I called and to the time I was able to pick up my dog the people were extremely understanding and made me feel at ease. In the future when my Vet is on vacation I know that UW ER will not give me the run around and they will be my 1st call. Can't give enough praise to the people I dealt with today. read more

I took my best friend, my 15 year old Pekingese to UW with a tumor on his Adrenal gland. I found the Oncology department to be excellent and very caring. After their extensive testing, it was their opinion Bernie would benefit from surgery and we were referred to that department. The surgeon we dealt with there was Dr. Leonard, who also was a caring person. Their plan was to combine 2 surgeries they said were needed, the Adrenal Tumor and a node on his Parathyroid gland. The surgery did not go well and my dear friend died a few days later. To my deep regret, I found out later 20% to 25% of dogs do not survive this surgery. Had I done more research, Bernie would have eventually died from his tumor, but at home in my arms. I blame myself for going ahead with this surgery that resulted in his demise. I can't describe the pain I feel at subjecting my Bernie to this surgery. Bernie's post surgery experience might have been better had I come up with a lot more money. We first came to UW Vet Hospital for our beagle Mia who was having recurrent urinary tract infections. They confirmed she had transitional cell carcinoma, a type of bladder cancer. The staff was great, especially Dr. Fernandez, in explaining everything and what the options were. Mia ended having to have a stent placed and then she started chemo. Everything was explained well during our visits, we would get follow up phone calls to make sure things were going well and detailed write-ups via email. It was always easy to get in touch with someone when we had a concern. Mia did really well at first but unfortunately, as is typically the case with this cancer, the chemo stopped working and the cancer metastasized. Mia was on palliative care for a while after that and sadly we said goodbye early this February, she was 13. While the outcome wasn't what we were hoping for, the UW staff were so helpful and attentive through the entire process. I can't say enough about how much we appreciate everything they did for Mia. read more

I cannot say enough good things about the UW Veterinary Care Clinic. From the phone staff to the receptionists to the students and doctors themselves, everyone has been incredibly friendly to me. I take my cat there for primary care services and recently took him in suffering with sneezing and coughing. Although a minor, non-life threatening illness, the staff worked me into the schedule on short notice, the doctors took ample time to explain what could be wrong and the options I had, and then took the time to call a week later to check in, even though one was on vacation. They are kind, professional people who care about you and your animal. And it's very affordable! My primary care visit was $25 and my sick visit was $45. I would absolutely recommend this clinic to anyone looking for primary care services or help with a sick pet. read more

I have always thought very highly of UW Veterinary Care, until today. Over the weekend my dog was diagnosed with cancer. As any pet owner can imagine, we are absolutely devastated. My dog is a patient at UW Vet and called to get him in with an oncologist to review his diagnosis and come up with a treatment plan. I spoke with someone by the name of Mandy in emergency care. Mandy interrupted me as I was explaining my dogs symptoms and said "it does not sound like your dog will qualify as a candidate for our oncology department. You can bring him into emergency for surgery or we may have to euthanize him". Truth or not, that is no way to speak to a patient during such a difficult time. Furthermore, she would not help me schedule an appointment even with our routine vet. The only option I was given was to bring him into the ER when I kept saying he was currently stable. I'm absolutely appalled by the lack of empathy that I received. read more

I don't have enough good things to say about them. Their level of compassion and expertise is top notch. Everyone there has been very friendly. Dr. Katelyn Marlowe who is an oncology resident is fantastic. She's our dog's primary doctor and always goes above and beyond. Dave the receptionist has made difficult days easier with his great attitude and making sure you are taken care of. The surgical staff does an EXCELLENT job as well! Jean the CVT always greets us with a friendly smile and is great at what she does. My dog is in great hands at this clinic- I wish this could be our primary vet clinic! read more

From setting up appointments to front desk to the veterinarians: FANTASTIC. These folks love animals. They are very compassionate and intuitive. Blake at the front desk quickly recognized Cleo's anxiety and offered to put us in an exam room so that she could relax. Dr. Barry-Heffernan takes care to explain things clearly and openly. They took time to ask us questions and really get to know Cleo. We also received a visit summary outlining everything we discussed. They have been working with our local veterinarians at the Antigo Veterinary clinic to help minimize our trips (6 hours round trip), saving us money, time, days off of work and MOST IMPORTANTLY helping Cleo. They have been very communicative and collaborative. They've thought of everything they can to make chemotherapy easier for our dog and our family. Dr. Barry-Heffernan advised us of some financing options should we need them. They know treatment is expensive, however, it is not out of line with other costs I've read online. We believe we are getting top notch care to keep our girl happy and comfortable for as long as she is with us. read more

Made 6 hr round trip for dermatology issue with my cat. Very glad I did! Spent hundreds on care with local vet and was going no where. Thought the staff and vet students were nice and caring. Leonard loved the attention of 2 vets & 3 students because Leonard LOVES attention. The more he can the better! Leonard ended up having a RARE feline dermatology issue. The vet listened THOROUGHLY to my concerns & my observation of my cat before rash developed and while it was going on something my local vet wasn't doing. INSTEAD OF maybe this maybe that try this try that, he got a definitive diagnosis of acute insect bite hypersensitivity reaction with 1 shot of a special long acting steroid used for dermatology issues. 1 shot, 1 month. No rash. No problem. She explained the problem & care thoroughly. The UW vet clinic expertise unbeatable!! I only gave 4 stars because I agree that registration/scheduling can be a bit of a "muddled""experience and agree with another reviewer about problems with particular person in scheduling or with scheduling in general, somewhat negative, unhelpful, & do everything to impede you. Don't know why either. Other areas aren't that way at all & do help you get the care & appointments your pet needs. Not sure what's going on there. Be patient be persistent. It's a vet school at a state university (govt run with all that entails) with STUDENTS. It's purpose is veterinary care but with a RESEARCH and TEACHING focus. I personally think the vet care here is tops. read more

The vet techs/students here are absolutely amazing. Everything else about this place blows. The vets talk to you like you are stupid, they talk fast and don't explain anything. they don't have any idea what your price is going to be. One minute they tell you one thing and the next it changes My mom called Tuesday morning and they told her her bill was at 3500, then she called called Tuesday night and they said 2500 then Wednesday morning when we picked up it was 3300. The price isn't what bothered us the most; it was the back and forth and no one having any idea what's going on. How sad. read more

Vet care for our bulldog was great, but pharmacy service was terrible; after 2 hours on hold for an NSAID refill; I gave up with the elevator music still ringing in my head. Next time I'll get a written Rx and take it elsewhere/online read more
