On recommendation from friends and our vet, when we knew it was time for our Max, we called Journeys Home. From the first phone contact with a very kind receptionist to the very end, we experienced nothing but compassion and empathy. My fur baby had been sick for a good while. When it became apparent the end was imminent I called Journeys Home for help. I did not want his final memory to be a car ride - which he hated, and a cold steel table with bright lights in a sterile environment. Saying goodbye to a pet isn't easy; Journeys Home Pet makes it about as easy as it can be. From the moment I talked with Dr. Laura on the phone, even though I knew this was her job, she gave me personal attention and was very compassionate. I'm grateful for their extended hours, and a 5:30 afternoon appointment allowed all the members of our household to be present. When Dr. Laura arrived she may have been a bit surprised to find five adults sitting around our cat, but took in the scene and put us all at ease. She was kind with both the people in the room and the animal, explaining everything thoroughly but not so much that it got technical or overwhelming. I had not considered home euthanasia before, but it was SO comfortable for both the animal and the people involved. We got to sit in the cat's favorite window seat in the evening sun, with familiar smells and people and surroundings. Like I opened with, this was about as easy as it was going to get. We had our dog put down yesterday. Katie was able to meet with us in our home the same day we called. She was very compassionate, understanding and made our dog (Abbey), and our family, comfortable during Abbey's last moments of life. Our dog was sedated before being euthanized, letting her go peacefully and with dignity. The other dogs we've had put down seemed to struggle at the end, so this seemed like a much more humane way to go.
