We recently had to put our elderly cat down. It was a heartbreaking decision, and our vet suggested we may want to consider in-home euthanasia. We utilized Journey's Home to come to our home in Baraboo. The vet who came was kind, gentle and made sure to explain the process and what to expect. We felt supported that we were making the best decision given our cat's decline in quality of life and had done everything that could be done for her comfort. He gave us plenty of time and space to say good-bye, and prepared a clay paw print for us to keep in her remembrance. I appreciate so much the compassion that was shown and the dignity with which our cat was treated. I absolutely would use their services again when we reach end of life for our remaining pet. read more

the vet jabbed the needle aggressively in Libby's back while she was standing up barking and I wasn't ready for her to do it. she wouldn't let me hold her and just went for it with the needle with no warning, at a time when Libby was not relaxed. Libby fell asleep and it was too late for me to have a good goodbye. read more

On recommendation from friends and our vet, when we knew it was time for our Max, we called Journeys Home. From the first phone contact with a very kind receptionist to the very end, we experienced nothing but compassion and empathy. Dr. Megan came to our home, greeted deaf and blind Max, and kindly explained the procedure. She even encouraged our other dog to be there. The entire process was calm and quiet, as I held him in my lap, on his chair and on his blanket. Everything about Dr. Megan was respectful and empathetic. She made a paw print of Max and asked if we would like some little bits of his hair to share with our kids. She even knew that we needed a hug! About a week after, we received a lovely sympathy care from Dr. Megan. How I wish I would have had this option with my previous two dogs! read more

Saying goodbye to one of the great loves of your life is beyond difficult. It's devastating and heart breaking. "Journeys Home" team of professionals was amazing from the first phone call, quick response, caring and loving treatment of my family and our precious boy! I have so much gratitude!! Thank you! read more

My fur baby had been sick for a good while. When it became apparent the end was imminent I called Journeys Home for help. I did not want his final memory to be a car ride - which he hated, and a cold steel table with bright lights in a sterile environment. The Doctor came out within hours after I called and was so kind and gentle. I was able to be with him and she let me stay with him until I was (barely) able to let him go. She did not rush me, and allowed me to take him to her vehicle for transportation to the crematory. I highly recommend this service should anyone be unfortunate to need it. read more

Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia - Clay paw print, fur, Pet Lovers Code, Urn and Certificate. Also included a Pet Loss Resource guide. - Veterinarians Near Me

Follow up to terrible experience. Took them to small claims court where I represented myself. They hired expensive lawyer and probably spent thousands to dismiss my case. In the process one of their vets lied numerous times under oath. Apparently from the judges decision since they only provide euthanasia services they are not held to the same standard as regular vets. Buyer Beware Save a lot of money and go to a regular vet to have your pet put down where you are assured of receiving all pertinent information. read more

Saying goodbye to our pup could not have been more beautiful. Dr. Laura was so soothing to our dogs, gentle, respectful, and even cheery when it was appropriate. We know that having Journeys come to our home was the right choice for the dog we lost, and for the dog that remained. The ability to have everybody together, at home, made our saddest day feel like we all got what we needed. Thank you Dr. Laura, thank you Journeys. read more

I can not say enough good things about Journeys. When I first called, they provided a clear and complete explanation of their process and thoughtfully answered all of my questions. When Dr. Braithwaite came to our home, she was very gracious and caring. She made sure all of us were able to express our love to our kitty who was able to pass while resting in her favorite spot, my lap. She treated our girl gently and respectfully, and she patiently waited as we grieved and said goodbye. Our kitty passed in the most calm and loving environment I could imagine. I would highly recommend Journeys if you are hoping for a peaceful, loving moment with your pet. read more

I just watched my housemates put down their beloved cat, Maggie in the living room of our home. Maggie had been ill, but condition had deteriorated rapidly these last couple of days. My housemates wanted to do right by her and have her final send off where she was the most relaxed -at home. Dr. Laura arrived to our home and was so empathetic, professional and just a nice human being. She was comforting without being disingenuous; she was medical without being cold. She was super respectful and very calm. She explained the procedure in such a way that it felt zen and almost reinforced their decision to euthanize their pet. Obviously, no one wants to do this, but this service is so much more calming for not only the animal but for the people as well. I would highly recommend Dr. Laura and her team if you ever come to a place where you need someone with calm compassion to help your pet. read more

I can't say enough about the empathy, care and professionalism used by this company as they put down my 130 pound Newfoundland. This is one of the hardest things anyone has to do in their life, and this group understands what we are going through. I've had to do this a handful of times in my life, and they made the process much easier, and didn't extort money from my sorrow. Great business doing a tough job. read more

I'm forever grateful to the staff at Journeys Home and cannot recommend them enough. Our cat was declining and in obvious distress. We had an euthanasia plan with our vet, who was in surgery the whole day. I tearfully reached out to Journeys Home desperate for someone to help. Dr. Kitt came out that day on an early Friday evening. She was professional, kind, caring, patient. After Ruby passed peacefully she took a clay paw print, wrapped her in a baby blanket and offered us some privacy to grieve and say our final goodbyes. There was a cozy pet bed in the back of Dr Kitt's SUV waiting for her. She also assisted with cremation arrangements including taking Ruby to the facility for us. The attention to detail as well as their extremely kind and compassionate care took a weight off my shoulders and my heart. The service they provide pet owners and their pets is truly a gift. read more

One of the hardest things a pet owner will ever have to do is make the decision to end the suffering of their furry friend. We had to make that decision last week. Dr. Laura was amazing - so kind and gentle and compassionate. She came to our home because our puppy could no longer walk and he was too heavy to lift into the car. Dr. Laura walked us through the process, explaining what she would do and what to expect. She helped us through that difficult time with such caring and understanding. Would highly recommend her services for others in need. Thank you, Dr. Laura! read more

This was the first time I had to put a "pet" down, and I'm really happy and thankful we found Journeys. They made it VERY easy to schedule a date and time to be at our home to help in the process. Dr. Katie was extremely professional and caring. The price was well worth it. The pawprint was perfect. My cat, Nesbitt was my best friend for 10 years as he spent every night snuggled against me while I slept, every warm day in the garden with me, and would greet me when I got home by climbing onto my shoulders. Thank you so much for doing what you do and doing at such a caring level I couldn't have imagined. I highly, highly recommend Journeys for animal euthanasia. read more

The decision to put down our 16 year old Bichon, Presley was excruciating. I called 3 times, always greeted with care and knowledge. When the time came, Dr Christine was so kind and soft-spoken. She was so patient and caring. It made the whole process so much more bearable. We can't say enough about the service they offer,it made the process so much easier and less stressful for Presley. I would recommend to anyone who finds themselves in need of this service. The price they quote is the price you pay, no unexpected fees. read more

Words cannot express how much we are grateful for Dr. Laura. Making the hard decision for our furbaby, was made easier with the information on your site and her guidance. Also, having Dr. Laura cone to our home and have those last minutes where we all can say goodbye, to include are other two cats. Was a blessing. read more

I'm not sure I like Yelp's 5-star rating of "Woohoo! As good as it gets!" for this type of service, but that's what we have to work with. As hard as it was to make the call to Dr. Hilst, it was absolutely the right call to make. She was kind, professional and let us take all of the time we needed to make sure that we were ready to say goodbye to our Abby. Not only did we not have to travel to the vet, but honestly, having this done by another vet that we didn't have a long term relationship with was kind of a relief. I have referred at least three friends to her as well, and each of them said that she made the worst day of their lives a little better with her care. read more

These people are truly angels walking the Earth disguised as people. I deeply admire and respect what they do and had only respectful, positive interactions with them. They bring a lot of heart and compassion to a very difficult moment in our lives. Thank you, truly, for helping our loved ones pass peacefully surrounded by family. read more

I am so thankful for Journey's in-house euthanasia service. My dog was so much more comfortable at home rather than being dragged to the vet office. The doctor was so nice, caring and calming, she made this terribly sad experience as bearable as it could be. I'm going to deeply miss my girl but I know in my heart that we did the right thing. Thank you to Journeys Home, you helped us through a very sad process. read more

The hardest part of owning a pet is when you have to make the decision to say goodbye. I had an elderly cat that's health started to decline rapidly. It wasn't an easy decision and to be honest don't know what to do. I reached out to Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia on a Wednesday night. They walked me through the process and what to expect. I wasn't ready to say goodbye that day and they said I could call back when I was ready. 3 days later it was time. I called around 9am on Saturday and they again were very compassionate and said they could come out right away. My two kids wanted to be present and they were able to ask any questions. She let us take our time and give extra hugs and kisses to our sweet Buddy. I am so thankful of their service. I would highly recommend them. read more

Saying goodbye to a pet isn't easy; Journeys Home Pet makes it about as easy as it can be. From the moment I talked with Dr. Laura on the phone, even though I knew this was her job, she gave me personal attention and was very compassionate. I'm grateful for their extended hours, and a 5:30 afternoon appointment allowed all the members of our household to be present. When Dr. Laura arrived she may have been a bit surprised to find five adults sitting around our cat, but took in the scene and put us all at ease. She was kind with both the people in the room and the animal, explaining everything thoroughly but not so much that it got technical or overwhelming. I had not considered home euthanasia before, but it was SO comfortable for both the animal and the people involved. We got to sit in the cat's favorite window seat in the evening sun, with familiar smells and people and surroundings. Like I opened with, this was about as easy as it was going to get. Dr. Laura was patient with our tears and final goodbyes, and was clearly in no rush. I really appreciated that. At the end, Dr. Laura asked if we wanted to share a hug with her - I personally will never turn one down - and I really appreciated that too. I have nothing but good things to say about both home euthanasia and Dr. Laura. Thank you for making a difficult time warm and pleasant. read more

Dr. Kristi Arnquist of Homeward Bound was out of town when the time finally came to say goodbye to my two precious Shih-Tzus, so she put me in touch with Dr. Katie Hilst and Dr. Catie Hawkins of Journeys Home. (As an aside, Dr. Kristi is wonderful. Based on how helpful she was during multiple phone calls, I am certain she would be a terrific choice too if you need to put your pet to sleep.) My dogs were almost 16 years old, and clearly struggling, but I had such a tough time with this decision. I miss them so much. But I know it was the right thing to do. Dr. Catie Hawkins came to my house and she was great. She took her time and did not rush the process at all. It was so much less upsetting to my dogs than going to our regular vet's office would have been. She was patient, gentle, and respectful. I wouldn't wish this heartache on anyone. But if it is that time for your pet, Dr. Catie and Journeys Home are wonderful, as is Dr. Kristi Arnquist and Homeward Bound. read more

Such a kind, caring professional group. As hard as it was to have to put our pet Molly to sleep. Journeys Home did it with such compassion and professionalism that I can't say enough about them. Highly recommended and forever grateful. read more

We had our dog put down yesterday. Katie was able to meet with us in our home the same day we called. She was very compassionate, understanding and made our dog (Abbey), and our family, comfortable during Abbey's last moments of life. Our dog was sedated before being euthanized, letting her go peacefully and with dignity. The other dogs we've had put down seemed to struggle at the end, so this seemed like a much more humane way to go. Also, having this done at home made it seem much more relaxing as our dog didn't get nervous about going to the vet and waiting in an unfamiliar room with other distractions/stressors. Katie's services go beyond just in home euthanasia though; she also arranged to take care of the cremation process and will be dropping off the remains once the process is finished. She also made 2 clay paw prints of Abbey for us to remember her by. We will definitely use Katie's services if the time comes again. read more

Having to put Remmy down was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but I couldn't imagine having to do it with any other vet than Dr. Katie. She was warm, compassionate, kind, empathetic, comforting and beyond caring. She came to my home (over an hour a way) knowing what needed to be done, interrupting her Easter morning with her family. She even brought treats for Remmy's final moments and clay to make an imprint of Remmy's paw for us to memorialize. So, even though I hope none of you are ever in the position to have to make the decision to put one of your beloved pets to sleep, I know that some of you will and if you are local to me (or in Southern Wisconsin) I want you to know that I felt blessed having Katie there, she made it easier and was far from intrusive. read more

We had our 15 year old poodle put down earlier this year. Katie came to our home and was great. She is very understanding and compassionate and knew what we needed emotionally. It was very peaceful and gentle, with him first being put to sleep with sedation and then euthanized. It is always an extremely sad experience but knowing how nervous dogs can get at the vet, it made the whole experience so much better. read more

Our beloved 13 year old dog Ruby gained her angel wings last night in the comfort of our home, surrounded by all of us who loved her. Dr Laura was so kind & caring, she made the experience very calm & peaceful. I will never do this any other way & would highly recommend this service to anyone & everyone who want their pet companions to leave this earth with grace & dignity. I've already received Ruby's ashes, she was away from us less than 24 hours. This is top-notch care & service from people who love animals & understand how to respectfully deal with the most difficult day of a pet owner's life. read more

A service such as this is a blessing. Our old kitty went downhill very quickly on a weekend. I was able to do a phone consult with Dr. Katie Hilst on Sunday morning and arrange a time for her to come to our home that afternoon. She was flexible with her schedule as my husband was trying to get off of work to get home in time. She was a very calming presence and helped our kitty pass peacefully at home instead of enduring a scary car ride and last visit to the emergency vet. She transported him to Memorial Pet Services for cremation on our behalf. I cannot imagine the level of compassion someone has to have in their heart to help pets and their people in their time of need. We were so thankful for this service. read more

For the last few months, we have known the end was approaching for our nearly 15 year old Wheaten Terrier, Preston. When it finally came time to make the difficult decision, we were so thankful to find Journeys Home Pet Euthanasia. We really appreciated the Journeys Quality of Life Scale which helped us to confirm that it was the right time for us to say our final goodbye. From our first interaction with Dr. Katie, she made the process as smooth as possible. We are comforted knowing that Preston was at peace through to the end. He fell asleep while eating ice cream and cheese whiz. Dr. Katie was so gentle and kind with him through the process. We will miss him dearly, but are thankful that someone like Dr. Katie was here to help. We would highly recommend her to any other pet owner facing this difficult decision. read more

Dr. Katie Hilst is a wonderful, compassionate and well credentialed doctor who made sure our cat Brockie was comfortable during the entire process. Very judgmental and will charge a ridiculous price if she doesn't agree that you should euthanize your pet, even if the pet is putting the health of infant in jeopardy. read more

We put our beloved pet down today and Dr. Katie Hilst turned this traumatic event into a peaceful, beautiful experience for us. She was kind, compassionate, professional, knowledgable and clearly experienced. She told us exactly what was going to happen. Our dog was given some treats to distract him while Dr. Hilst sedated him and then he gently fell asleep. She administered a second med to stop his heart but he was completely unaware. She covered him with a beautiful blanket after she made paw prints and then put him on a stretcher to take for cremation. We would never have made it through this with our her and recommend to everyone to use this service in your time of need. read more

Simply put, Dr. Katie is wonderful. She has an angelic, calm demeanor and couldn't be more professional from that horrendous first phone call we had no choice but to make, to the moment we had to say goodbye to our little guy, Auden. Our family is quite devastated by this loss but calling Dr. Katie and Journeys Home to come to our house and shepherd him to the next chapter surrounded by love and compassion was the best possible end to a life we really, really didn't want to give up but were given no choice. Our three other dogs were witness to his passing and judging by the way they laid down next to him to pay respect and say goodbye, well, this awful situation could not have gone better. Dr. Katie has landed in life exactly where she should be. Thank you for easing our searing pain. read more
