These people at Edgewater Veterinary Emergency Group are amazing, kind, loving, caring, the list goes on and on! Both times I took my Toby Bear in for emergency services I received the utmost care. They are so personable and loving, they allow you to watch what they are doing and let you know exactly what is going on through the process. The first time we went my Toby had been injured on his paw and it was broken; they set it and gave me instructions on how to take care of him and to contact my vet for follow up. The next and last time I took him in the middle of the night they found a mass in his lower spine, and we had to euthanize him so he wouldn't suffer. Toby was an amazing soul; I got him when he was 7 and I loved the years I spent with him and will never forget the love and care I received from them. Wow, this place was great! Our Vet referred us here as our dog (Jazzy) was in need of emergency care. Our Vet sent all of our dog's records over to Veterinary Emergency Group (VEG). We were greeted immediately by name & seen right away by a Tech to assess our dog's situation.The Tech was friendly & sweet, she met Jazzy on the floor to evaluate & brought over a bed for her to lay in. We had a little bit of a wait until the Vet came over. The Vet was very knowledgeable & kind - she spent a lot of time examining Jazzy, explaining recommended procedures & pricing. She worked within our budget & applied a common sense approach to what services should be done. Everyone we met at VEG was awesome. My wife brought my rescue bulldog into VEG Edgewater on a Saturday evening because my primary vet was closed. We were concerned about an abdominal / intestine blockage. VEG'S sonographer/ X-ray technician gave an "inconclusive" diagnosis after we spent over $750. This was scary and frustrating. We took our bulldog home with the hopes whatever it was would just pass. The next morning I recognized something was very wrong, not eating, pacing and dehydrated. I rushed her to my primary vet and their sonographer immediately identified a two connected blockages in her stomach and intestines which literally had her intestines bunched up like an accordion and within hours my bulldog received life saving surgery. Whomever VEGS sonographer / x-ray technician is they need to go back to school from the very beginning. $3,800 + for absolutely nothing! I cannot understand how they missed two solid objects plus the intestines bunched up like an accordion! Little Bulldog is not out of the woods yet and we lost an entire day because of either laziness or incompetence! I don't blame the nurses or the doctors but their sonographer and X-ray tech STINK. I WILL NEVER PUT ANY OF MY DOGS LIVES IN VEG'S HANDS AGAIN !!! read more

My experience at the edgewater VEG was shockingly poor compared to VEG Colfax. I thought I would give edgewater a try thinking they might be less busy, but everything about it was a nightmare in comparison. Avoid this location and go to VEG on Colfax. Edgewater staff pretty much ignored me and my cat for a couple hours. Nobody checked on us, and despite the open room setup all the staff avoided eye contact about as intentionally as it gets. Doctor Meyer presented options in a cold way, "it's going to be very expensive and you can pick one of these 3 things" and would not give any recommendation for what is best for my pet. The most frustrating part is that she told me to return for an ultrasound the next day, but never told me I needed to fast my cat for that so when I went to Colfax the next day they couldn't do the ultrasound due to stomach contents. This is a massive mistake for a pet having a critical issue. Edgewater also told me that they had higher pricing on the weekend. After my poor experience there I went to Colfax the next day, and they told me their pricing is the same all week. They quoted me lower than Edgewater price. They told me I should have been told to fast my pet. After waiting 1.5 hours for simple blood draw with no update from the 8 staff members sitting on their computers, I asked for an update from the front desk and they had a staff member tell me they don't have enough hands to draw blood yet. The blood draw took 2 people, and about 2 minutes. Keep in mind they couldn't do that for nearly two hours, while Colfax had it done in minutes. They were not even busy there. The doctor did a handheld ultrasound probe and said she found nothing. The next day they did the same at Colfax and immediately identified pancreatitis and other inflamed organs. I unfortunately wasted quite a bit of money getting absolutely nowhere at VEG Edgewater, and made my cat extremely stressed in the process as they made no effort to keep him away from loud and foul smelling dogs. NO ONE SHOULD TRUST EDGEWATER WITH THEIR PETS. I never leave reviews but this experience was horrific. Edgewater is much more cramped, the staff is very cold (a cat even panicked in a kennel while we were there and the staff was just laughing about it), they apparently charge more than Colfax, and they give poor medical advice. AVOID THIS LOCATION, VEG COLFAX is astronomically better. They are awesome over there. Edgewater, you need to do a lot of work to improve to the standards of Colfax. read more

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I feel other pet owners should be aware of my experience. I brought my 14-week-old dachshund to VEG in Edgewater because she suddenly became lethargic after a trip to the park. As any pet owner would, I was worried and wanted to make sure she was okay. During our visit, I felt pressured into expensive testing and treatment recommendations that resulted in a bill far higher than I expected. After evaluating my puppy, the staff ultimately told me she was okay and discharged her. Shortly after we left, I received a call informing me that the clinic had overcharged me and that I would be receiving a $300 refund. At the same time, I requested copies of all of my puppy's test results, and I was told they would be sent along with the refund. Unfortunately, I never received the test results, and instead of the promised $300 refund, only $100 was returned. Despite my requests, I have still not received an explanation for the missing refund amount or the medical records I was told I would receive. Mistakes can happen, but transparency, accurate billing, and timely communication are essential when people are trusting you with both their pets and their finances. I hope VEG addresses these issues so other pet owners don't have a similar experience. read more

This was not a good experience, we brought our kitty in with an absess and she was misdiagnosed that she had kidney failure. The Vet would not listen to us because they said there was not enuff bacteria in her blood. So just diagnosed as a kidney problem and gave us some meds with no antibiotics and sent us walking after they even told us we cold do a payment plan. Front desk said no such thing could take place and charged the full amount of $600.00. A terrible waste because Munchkin had to be put down from an absess that could have had early detection and could have saved her life. Such a heart breaking waste. Second time at this place and both experiences were horrible. First time, our dog suddenly lost use of his front legs. Quickly, after arriving we were lectured on quality of life, so on. They assumed finances were an issue, which money was not an issue. We left, our regular vet was open at this point. She had no clue but recommended a neurologist visit. After MRI we're told he should be ok, but give him a couple weeks. Sure enough he was walking and fit within a week. Jelly in a disk had ruptured, but if we had listened to this place we would have lost him a few years back. This time, our dog suddenly went lethargic, and stopped eating. Unfortunately this was late on a Friday and our only option was to hospitalize him as he needed, per our vet, for overnight fluids and care to stabilize him. We were told we could be with him and keep an eye on his. Immediately upon arriving we were told there would be no overnight care as he was dying. If we wanted to be with him when that happened they handed us a list of hospice places that would come to our home. We didn't know what to do and there seemed to be a disconnect between our vet and these people. Frantic, I did make this appt and he gently passed at home with us. We did not want him at this very loud chaotic clinic. One big area, dogs barking, surgeries being performed with animas in cages watching. The staff seemed nice, but again money was mentioned, I said were willing to pay for an overnight stay at 5k, but again, we were told there was no hope. No idea if this true as our vet seemed to think he could be stabilized overnight. No other places were available late on a Friday afternoon with weekend admittance. This might be the place to go for obvious injuries, such as hit by car, broken bones, that type of emergency, but not for a very sick dog needing hospitalization. I would not ever take a pet there again. read more

I went there today because my 7 month old kitten looked very sick, they tried to get blood work done and couldn't they still wanted to charge me 4,829 dollars without even being able to find out what was wrong with her, after I told them I didn't have the money they did not want to keep looking for an answer and suggested to put my 7 month old kitten down me thinking they now better i decided to go with their word and I am regretting my decision after reading reviews they still charged me 300 dollars after not doing anything just putting her down in my opinion this is the worst place and so cruel that you still are charging people more than rent cost when you couldn't even save a life and decided it was best to put her down I will never go back ever. read more

The whole concept of being allowed in the treatment area and staying with our pup the whole time was so different from anything we have ever experienced. The place is so professional and well run. My baby rat dusty was not breathing well. The staff was all SO amazing they got him in almost immediately and we decided the best route for him was medication. We ended up spending 250 for everything. You may think it's a little pricey for a rat but he truly is my baby and I would go back there in a heartbeat knowing the amazing care he got. The price is in my opinion worth the care he got there. Watching them all work on every type of animal during my short time there was so amazing. I'm a little late getting my review up, but all of the staff here were AMAZING. My dog got very sick over the course of a day, and she ended up being at VEG for ~17hr I think. I was able to stay with her the entire time which helped a lot with how scary the situation was for both her and myself. They were all so friendly and did so well with my sweet girl. They made sure I was fully informed about all of the medications and care plan, and especially the associated charges. They give you a high and low end estimate, and while you have to pay for the high end up front, they refund you for anything that did not happen from the high end of things. It was really nice being able to know (roughly) what the highest cost was going to be going into things. I absolutely recommend VEG to anyone who needs urgent, thorough care for their fur babies. They diagnosed some heart problems that other clinics had missed entirely and prescribed appropriate meds. She has recovered most of her vitality and has rejoined our family. If you're in an emergency right now, don't think twice--go to VEG. My dog was so sick at 2am. I called VEG because they were so close. They advised me to bring him in. I'm so glad I did. We were there for 15 hours, saw 3 staff changes, and everything was seamless. Everything is above and beyond at VEG. My dog was getting sick from both ends, and once even in my lap. The staff immediately cleaned everything up, showed me their shower and gave me a pair of scrubs to change into. I came out while they were cleaning up my pup and they offered to machine wash my shorts! They checked on my dog AND me multiple times--offering me water and snacks, a break, and a chair to sit in the kennel with my dog. They even got my dog a pillow for a head rest. VEG is open concept, which means you can usually stay with your pet as much as you want. My high anxiety dog was so grateful. I was legitimately working from my laptop, in their dog kennel, with my pup laying in my lap. All while he was getting great care. Everything is very collaborative at VEG. They offer recommendations, alternative options, and really considered my input on what I thought was the best care for my dog. And listen, any emergency care is expensive. Get the pet insurance now. Don't wait. VEG's prices seem very comparable with other emergency care. The staff genuinely cares about your pet's wellbeing so much. I watched them interact with so many owners and pets. Always met with compassion, never judgement. Even in situations that were very challenging, they were taking an educational approach vs shaming. And their care is so comprehensive--immediate action to relieve pain, intermediate steps to build up strength, and longer term preventatives. Thank you, VEG!! Dakota is already doing so much better. I have been feeding the neighborhood kitty for about 18 months and the other day I noticed he had a bite on his hind leg. He came back over yesterday and the bite had not been taken care of so I decided to take him in to get some help. The team at VEG was so helpful with me bringing in Peaches. We went to a room right away because I couldn't get him into a carrier and the vet came in within minutes to see him. They were very transparent about the cost of these sevices and thankfully helped me out a bit as Ive been out of work for a few months and wasn't expecting to have an emergency vet bill for a stray kitty. The entire team was so kind and I appreciated that I was able to stand next to peaches while they gave him his antibiotics and healed up his wound. This place is amazing. I arrived after midnight with a kitten I suspected broke her leg. Immediately a team surrounded the kitten and they took care of her with no delay - they even let me be there while she was taken care of. This emergency vet clinic is WAY overpriced. The doctors and vet assistants were kind and attentive, BUT: We brought our dog in who had eaten something, was vomiting and was in pain because she was having trouble moving it through her system (this has happened before). We decided to try them, because it was after hours and near our home. The X-ray alone was more than $700. They said there was a possible obstruction.Then they gave us a quote for keeping our dog overnight with an IV to monitor her, some nausea and pain medication and giving her an ultra sound in the morning if she had not improved. Cost? More than $4,000. They charge an overnight stay by the hour. We politely refused and took our dog to Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital. At WRAH, we paid a $198 office visit fee, $162 for the anti nausea medication, and around $150 for pain pills. This doctor reviewed the x rays we brought in said there was no evidence of an obstruction, but that she did have some fragments of foreign material and she was backed up. She sent our dog home with us, and told us to bring her back if she started vomiting again. She didn't. She was able to move everything through the next day, and she was not in pain. So, my advice is to go to WRAH if you have any emergency with your pet. They have common sense and reasonable pricing. read more

We cannot thank VEG enough for the help they recently provided us when our sweet Lila had collapsed and was unresponsive. After being unable to have our regular vet help us and after calling a 24-hour hospital we've used in the past, I called VEG "in an act of desperation". I was immediately put through to Dr. Gadson and explained that we were unable to pick Lila up to bring her to them (she was a 65 pound yellow lab). Dr. Gadson immediately sent two employees - Cynthia and Jessica - to our home to help us. They arrived within minutes. They helped us soothe Lila when it was clear she wasn't going to make it to the hospital. They were so kind, allowing us time to say goodbye. My dog had an abscess in her paw over the weekend and luckily I was able to get into Veterinary Emergency Group at Edgewater Sunday morning. We called ahead and filled out paper work online. Walking in the staff welcomes you into the back room where all the action is. You can sit there and be with your pet the entire time. She had to be sedated to have the abscess cleaned out and it was nice to be able to hold her while they gave her an injection. Staff was very informative and kept me up to date the entire time. It was so nice to be able to be in the back where your pet is. It puts everyone at ease. Lobby has snacks/drinks while you wait. Very clean and I was surprised by the amount of staff (probably because you don't normally see them all) Price is not cheap but it is an emergency vet so you have to expect high costs. read more
