Tostilocos

Super friendly service and great snacks. We got Tostilocos and they were so good!!! They have ice cream and Mexican food. So many items to choose from.

Has more vegetables than meat!

If you're wondering why a little Mexican seafood joint in Tulare, California, has a perfect 5-star…read morerating, I'm about to tell you. That rating was enough to bring me in the door and the place definitely lives up to the hype. We came in because we were visiting town and needed to try a new experience. Just the thought of shrimp, much less drunken shrimp, has my mouth watering. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall but is very nice inside. I was immediately impressed by the service. The woman who helped us was very nice and patient and answered all our questions about our to-go order. SHe even came over twice while we were waiting to clarify details in our complex request. The food took a while to come out, but when it did there was a gentleman who opened each box and described the contents to make sure we were satisfied with both the quality and accuracy of the order. They really went above and beyond in making sure we were happy. As for the food, it was a home run. The shrimp, seafood and birria tacos were all very tasty, especially when paired with the house salsa and the very hit but delicious creamy green salsa. My wife absolutely loved the giant wet burrito with chicken that she ordered. I've had plenty of hit-or-miss experiences with so-called authentic Mexican eateries in this area. Most don't live up to the hype. Mariscos El Camaron Borracho does thanks to great food and even better service.

So, I had high hopes for this place, but overall it was a bit of a letdown. I ordered 8 tacos (6…read moreasada, 1 chorizo, 1 chicharrón), 1 burrito, and 1 crunchy asada taco. The asada tacos actually had decent flavor -- although the meat was a little on the salty side. Not a deal breaker, but noticeable. The chorizo taco? Honestly, tasted just like the kind you buy at any grocery store and cook at home -- nothing special at all. I was hoping for that rich, house-made taste, but nope. The chicharrón taco was probably the most disappointing -- it was basically a cuerito taco. No real meat, just soft skin, so not what I was expecting. But what really killed the experience for me was the salsa situation. They gave me just two small containers of salsa for everything. The red one was tasty, and the green one was basic but good -- but come on, two little salsas for 8 tacos and a burrito? No limes, no radishes, nothing to help bring the tacos together. We ended up trying to ration the salsa, and without enough, the tacos felt dry. Everyone knows a taco needs to have that salsa dripping down and a good squeeze of lime to really come alive -- otherwise, it's just meat on a tortilla. I'm giving it 3 stars because the asada tacos had potential. But the overall execution, especially the lack of salsa and sides, really brought the meal down. Probably won't be rushing back.

Theeeee place for tacos, period. Everything is so fresh and homemade. Don't walk, run to this…read moreamazing Taqueria. Never disappoints!

The avocado salsa was the perfect topper. The set up was great! The had everything from cilantro to frijoles and grilled onion. My tacos were nice and hot fresh and juicy. Asked if this was new development and the lady at the counter said it's all up in the air and there was no chicken yesterday. Due to religious reasons, I can't eat any other meat and they have no vegetarian options like nopales, so I got a cheese quesadilla that I ended up throwing half away because it would have definitely clogged my arteries with all the oil and cheese stuffed in there. It also lacked taste. Rice was mediocre - required lots of salsa to be edible. We came in before the lunch rush, but watched as they called out numbers and the customers would be confused because they had no numbers. Asked for a cup of water and was told we'd have to buy a water bottle. And ambiance has changed as the tables are now adjacent to the truck with music blasting on your ear. Bathroom still clean. But just feeling let down.
