This was definitely a surprise last minute dinner date with my wife. I searched for a French meal in Jersey and the Verve came up. I was especially interested in the Pan Seared Duck breast with the mushroom Risotto. (Which as Fantastic) which ultimately was the contributing factor in us picking the restaurant. Upon walking into this restaurant, you feel welcomed as the staff greets you with a smile and a warm welcome. The overall feel of the restaurant is cozy and intimate. For me, a little too dark at times as you can't see all the magnificent pictures on the wall of various customers I assume. My wife ordered the cocktail from the bar which said was also very tasty and smooth. The Bread and the Dip was our downfall as it was exactly like having bread in a French Bistro in France. We ordered both the Mama verve crab cakes and the House Made Bang dumplings with the roasted pork and shrimp. The sear on the Crabcakes was perfect as the flavor of the crab underneath the sear. The Dumplings themselves had a nice crunch to it with the perfect blend of Pork and shrimp in it. We moved on to our Main Course which consisted of the Crispy Chicken breast and the Pan Seared Duck Breast with Mushroom Risotto. The Crispy Chicken sear was also perfect as the lemon content in the chicken simply amazing. A Bright and brilliant Chicken Dish. The veggies on this dish had the right amount of seasoning also. The Pan Seared Duck was cooked to perfection in a medium rare and the Mushroom Risotto had the right amount of seasoning. The Portions of the food were excellent as it was all we could eat. We did not have any leftovers to take home. We cleaned off all our plates and left nothing behind. My only complaint about this restaurant is that I didn't have enough room to in my stomach to even try the deserts. Will make another attempt another time. We will definitely make this a special place for us to come for our special date nights. Can't wait to try other dishes. read more

First time sitting down at a table (usually sit at the bar with hubby getting a burger and a craft cocktail). And it's definitely not the same experience. The fettuccine and the duck a la orange was ok. The lamb chops got the thumbs up. Service was ok. Waiter did a good job whoever got aggravated when we asked him to reheat the Irish coffees that came to the table cold. I have dined at Verve since Rick St Pierre opened it 25 years ago. It could have been named Rick's Cafe just like Bogart's place in Casablanca. The ambiance is New York cool vibe, especially in his upstairs and downstairs rooms. I have held Birthday, Bar Mitzvah parties and company team meetings there. He will create a custom meal to your budget and preferences. Always a hit and he doesn't gouge you on room fees. He serves an excellent Dinner menu with authentic French and Asian dishes. The crab cakes are the best I ever had and can be ordered for an appetizer or main course. He has a terrific array of Asian dumplings and Korean duck rolls as appetizers plus many other choices. Main courses include a great steak, duck l'orange, salmon other dishes including le hamburger. Desserts are awesome and include a crème brûlée to die for plus many other choices like fig tart with pastry cream or chocolate ganache cake. Bring insulin. The brunch has many standard hits like eggs Benedict, chicken n' waffles and steak n' eggs plus other delicious perfect choices. Coffee is good and they have a solid wine list. I love this place! Has a great vibe, they make fantastic drinks, and service is very friendly! This is not a place to get a beer or a wine, go for one of their fancy cocktails - they have so many good creative ones. When entering, the bar area is VERY narrow so navigation can be a little difficult. Tables are in the bar area and in the back and downstairs is the bathrooms and party room. Be careful going up and down those stairs after a few drinks! Shared some apps a while back and they were very good. When in Somerville, this is a place you should go to! read more

Really cute, fun bar in downtown Somerville. It has nice outdoor seating which reminded me of a French cafe. Inside is dark and dimly lit. It has an Alice in Wonderland theme, with some themed drinks. Definitely speak easy vibes. The bartenders provided great service (bartender with mustache and girl with tattoos were super nice!) I only came for drinks but the food looked amazing. It looks like they have a lot of fun events every week. There was a Drag Queen show when I went. read more

Calamari Came with tarter sauce, We asked the food runner for marinara sauce for our calamari and he looked at us like "really", said ok and never came back. We were sitting at the bar. Drinks are great and they have lots of specialty drinks. The food is awesome and the stAff, especially Jamie is a great addition to the staff. I recently moved to Somerville and Verve has become one of my go-to hangout spots. The cocktails here are wonderfully crafted (current favorite is 50 shades of pink) and the bartenders are fantastic as well as super friendly! They're educated on cocktails and I always come out of the bar learning a new cocktail fact or trying a new cocktail drink! Before the pandemic I used to commute to NYC a lot and would love going out to jazzy bars similar to the Verve vibe after work so it's nice to see this bar here in NJ! Perfect place to meet an old friend. Has always been an oasis during difficult times. The bartenders are always engaging and interesting, the mixology is second to very few, and the food is always on point. The octopus here is as good as it gets, and the crab cake was as rich as you'd hope. The crab cake is served on a bed of corn salsa that was an elevated touch. read more

WARNING:CHECK YOUR BILL. We recently had an event at this restaurant. We had open bar and the restaurant agreed to give us Happy Hour prices. At the end of the evening we received the bill. While the drink prices did not appear to be happy hour prices (ie martini $16) we accepted that. It was the open pouring of wine that we were charged for that astonished us. Not only was that not agreed too but they were open pouring $70-$80 bottles of wine. When this was addressed with management they thought nothing of it. How can you take it upon yourself to open pour and do so with expensive bottles of wine. This is blatantly taking advantage of patrons. They should be ashamed of this business practice. There are many great places to eat in the area. Please spend your money in more deserving restaurants. read more

Drinks came out after 30 min took our order nearly an hour later and then hour and a half Iater found out after I ate my salad that my husbands meal hadn't been entered in the system. Not sure if it's because we were Spanish or had our child with us but service was horrible. We traveled one hour for crab fest. And would never go back hungry. We had an 8 person group for a birthday celebration at Verve last weekend, and everything was splendid. We sat downstairs which does seem to offer more space, but still has the dim cocktail bar atmosphere. I think everyone enjoyed their food- I personally had the Branzino which was cooked well and had a delicious sauce. The table ordered a mixture of cocktails, wines, and beers as well as a couple of desserts. The service was good and we definitely weren't rushed at any point. Came here for dinner on a Friday night and really enjoyed ourselves! We went to Verve and sat in the bar area after hearing talk about the burger being one of the best in the area, but honestly, the burger was our least favorite thing we had! The cocktails were awesome- I can't remember the name of what I had, but it was incredibly refreshing and just tasted very balanced. My husband had a couple of different cocktails too and really liked his choices. This is definitely the kind of place where you can feel confident in trying their cocktails and knowing you'll get something good no matter what you order. The appetizer that we shared, the Korean fried chicken bao buns, were also awesome. I could've easily eaten 2 plates of them. The burger was just...very average. For being so expensive ($20 + extra for cheese and extra for the bacon jam), and not coming with anything like lettuce/tomato/etc., it just tasted a bit plain for me. It was definitely decently cooked and seasoned well, but that's not what I would recommend Verve for. I'm the future, I'd probably just sit at the bar for cocktails and appetizers! Tried placing an online order today, especially since some items were 10% off and I was looking forward to trying them. Wanted a later pickup as to avoid the crazy dinner rush in Somerville. Got to the end, priced at $55, went to pay and got a "restaurant is not connected to the website" error at payment. Fair enough. Called to place an order, got to the end and before I could even get the words out of mouth that I wanted it for pickup later she said "15-20 minutes and hung up." So I fought for about 10 minutes trying to park, got to the restaurant and handed over my card. Bill was $10 more than the website, and the bartenders took an eternity to run my card. Was constantly being pushed out of the way by incoming patrons and waitstaff while I waited to overpay. Got the dumplings, and the chicken breast dinner. Neither were good enough to warrant another star for the atrocious service, overcharging, and wait time. I'll still come back for the cocktail lounge upstairs. Is and again, but the restaurant has no chance of redeeming itself. Fix your website if you're going to offer online ordering in advance. read more

Came here on a Sunday night for dinner and sat at the outdoor seating area. The inside looked more intimate and would be good for a romantic date night. It was dimly lit and had a nice bar area. I ordered the boneless short ribs - it was good overall but a little bit dry. We also ordered the cheesesteak and the fries that came with it were very good. Okay... Okay. Fancy drinks with weird names, plush seating and dim lighting? I'm hooked. I came here with a group of friends for after dinner drinks and was blown away at how cool this place was. We went straight up to the upper level and managed to snag a table to fit all nine of us. I absolutely never knew this place existed and can say the vibe is wonderful. It's swanky and cozy and feels very upscale. I ordered the O.D.B Kool Aid and must warn you, tread lightly if you aren't head over heels in love with ginger. I, personally, am head over heels in love with ginger. But this drink is potent, spiced and realllllly good. Priced at $12 a cocktail, it's a pretty fair price for an interesting place and a good drink. There was one thing that threw me off. Not a negative by any means because a couple people in my party were actually really into it but Avatar the Last Air Bender was playing on a projector screen on one side of the bar. It seemed out of place but, like I said, was not a big deal. Just something to wonder about. The people that were Avatar fans requested subtitles. I requested a different movie/show because I am all about being able to watch TV at fancy bars. read more

Verve is very cool restaurant located in the heart of downtown Somerville. I came on a Saturday night and the place was packed. Very nice atmosphere that tilts towards the date night vibe. They also have a cool bar towards the front of the restaurant where they apparently focus on mixology. A really nice place. Foodwise, the experience didn't meet the attractiveness of the restaurant. I shared different dishes, all of which were just ok. The strip steak, while looking good, was very underwhelming. The lobster risotto was fairly bland and came out luke warm. The lobster bisque was way too thick and only had a hint of lobster taste. The cauliflower soup was a little better the rest of the dishes, but still just ok. The cocktails (I ordered a rum old fashioned) was also just ok. I definitely had higher expectations for this place given some of the reviews and the vibe I got when I walked in. The service was good and the restaurant itself was very nice, but the food left a lot to be desired. read more

Stay away if you have food allergies. I have celiac. I was dismissed and questions unanswered around clarification of what was gluten free and what wasn't. We asked if the baked Brie could come with vegetables and we were responded with a head shake and a uh uh weren't sure. Very disappointed as I previously called the restaurant the afternoon before the reservation and was rest assured of the kitchen confidence around gluten allergies. In addition, my boyfriend received the incorrect beer and was told he was wrong around him questioning.
