A Family Affair Catering provided exceptional service for my friend's 75th birthday celebration,…read morewhich I hosted for 105 guests. The food was absolutely delicious, with a wide variety of flavorful options that truly pleased the crowd. The presentation and overall setup were beautiful and added an elegant touch to the event. Chef Darryl was professional, organized, and a pleasure to work with throughout the entire process. The pricing was very reasonable, and he even offered a wonderful tasting prior to signing the contract, which gave us great confidence in our decision. I highly recommend A Family Affair Catering for any special occasion.

To consider this a legitimate "business" is laughable, just like their food. Arrived over an hour…read morelate to an event and instead of being apologetic, had an attitude. Dinner was for 25 + people and there was barely enough food for 12. Not that this mattered, as EVERYTHING was inedible and there were no plates, cutlery or napkins provided. I take that back, the store brought $2.00 (price still on) cornbread and $16.00 cake were the ONLY items edible. The Mac and Cheese was dry and bland. I will give them credit for it being both overcooked and undercooked all in the same batch. I'm still trying to make sense of that! The only adjective that even remotely describes this Mac and Cheese is "disrespectful". Like, seriously, the disrespect was 10/10. The chicken was undercooked and bland. How do you make jerk chicken bland and soggy? I'm actually curious. The "blackened" salmon was overcooked yet not blackened, creating another "make it make sense" moment. I immediately spat out the greens. They were undercooked, not under-seasoned but literally "not seasoned". Wait, I take that back too, if you count the dirt and grit as seasoning. They should be ashamed of themselves for ripping people off. Pictures don't lie. The fact that they were sent pictures and still stood behind their product tells you all you need to know. Please, please, PLEASE do not let these people ruin your event and more importantly your special moments and memories. There are so many other respectable and legitimate Black-owned catering companies i.e. Ohhs and Ahhs, Henry's, Hitching Post.

It's very frustrating to see that the other reviews are "not recommended" when they say positive…read morethings about Bennett Caterers. That is not fair to them. My first interaction with the owner, Joanne, was wonderful. She was incredibly helpful in not only deciding on the wedding menu, but in matching colors, suggesting decor, and offering advice for planning as she was aware that I was planning my own wedding and had no idea what I was doing! She helped me afford the full-service buffet catering by working out pricing that worked well for my budget and worked out ALL the buffet options I wanted! I was super excited and incredibly happy with the menu! It hit all food options, meats, seafood, vegetarian. We scheduled a tasting during our meeting with the venue representative and Joanne provided all the needed documentation for catering. The tasting was all of the entrees/sides that we put on the menu, AND additional tastings of other options and iced tea that I wanted. Since we didn't really have "tasting" time at the venue, she packed it up into take-out boxes and let us take so much food home! It was as if we went to a restaurant and got take-out food for dinner! I hired Bennett Caterers for my wedding ceremony/reception, all located in the same lodge. Set-up time was scheduled from 12:00-2:00pm, with the ceremony supposed to begin at 2:00pm. They were already at the location when we arrived for set-up and setting up table linens. In that time frame, I threw the decor onto the tables and ran off to get ready for my wedding. By the time I came back up for the ceremony, all of the tables were beautifully covered with the plates and silverware. Everything was set-up and the buffet was warm and ready on the side. During dinner, the food was very good and everyone seemed satisfied. With my nervousness, I kind of forgot to eat during my entire wedding, but at least the guests enjoyed it! The bar was also great! The waiters were incredibly respectful and Joanne's team was great. If there was anything I could have changed, I probably would have pushed a couple of late night (after party) snacks that could have gone around during the dancing, as I didn't get the try any appetizers during cocktail hour, since I was off taking photos. :( To any brides that plan their own wedding, you SHOULD have breakfast, because I thought I'd get to try some of the food and I didn't... :(( But I'm so happy the guests enjoyed it all! Just a side note -- I didn't quite know this was universal for caterers, but to avoid liability issues, they cannot leave you leftovers (especially since the food sits out for a long time), so don't be surprised if you don't get to keep everything that you saw after dinner. Thanks, Joanne!

Joanne was fantastic! My wife and I were planning our wedding in the early stages by ourselves…read morewithout a planner, and Joanne went above and beyond her role as a caterer and really helped us with other aspects of our event (timeline, layout, etc.). She really listened to us when it came to food selection and what we wanted. She was extremely professional and my wife was VERY pleased! The food was plentiful, tasty and our guests made multiple comments about the high food quality. When the venue tried to upcharge us for items they originally said they would include, Joanne had our back and helped us get what we were owed. We will definitely be using Bennett Caterers for house gatherings in the future!

SO...I'm going to start by speaking positive. This young man has the POTENTIAL to have a great…read morebusiness going. I did not know him before, I got his information on yelp. I asked him to help me cater a BBQ for 50+ people. 1.) He provided me with an initial tasting. 2.) He offered to roll the costs of tables, chairs, and chaffing dishes into his fee, which was very convenient for me! He even offered to come the day before to help setup. 3.) I asked for a second tasting to fine tune the menu Items I was having for the BBQ he stated that he would cook the chicken on site the day of... I explained to him that BBQing chicken on the grill takes SKILL and that I prefer the chicken be baked, or parboiled and then placed on the grill. He assured me that wasn't necessary. Here's what I asked for, and what I got: I ASKED FOR: I told him that I did NOT want chicken or any meat in my pasta salad and wanted it to be a veggie pasta salad. I also requested that the HUGE pieces of cheese that he put in the pasta salad either be left out or cut smaller or replaced with a less dry cheese WHAT I GOT A "Veggie Pasta Salad" with chicken and HUGE pieces of cheese...after my vegetarian friends found meat in the pasta. I ASKED FOR: General Tso Wings and Medium Spicy Jerk Wings WHAT I GOT: Wings that looked the exactly the same and were under cooked and had to be put back on the grill and into the oven the next day. (RAW WINGS ON THE GRILL MEANS UNDER COOKED INSIDE AND OVERCOOKED OUTSIDE. I ASKED FOR: Nice hamburgers...I SPECIFICALLY SAID I did not want the cheap thin hamburgers WHAT I GOT: A big pile of cheap thin flying disk hamburgers that were dry. The deviled eggs were completely doused in paprika and were not served to the guests and remained in the fridge until someone asked about them...the same for the fruit salad that looks like it prepared days in advance and not fresh. After the food was setup we were spinning around digging through the dishwasher looking for serving utensils because the caterer that I paid 4 figures to did not bring serving utensils. THE MAIN ISSUE HERE I am a small business owner myself...I called Mr. Chase and asked to meet with him to talk about how the event went. I texted him not less than SIX TIMES and each time he would give me a date and then either not respond or came up with a reason not to meet. I am assuming this is because he is aware that the event did not go to plan. He has avoided speaking with me (see photos) and THAT is the sign of bad business practices. I even had a church that wished to hire him and still never responded. A business like this survives off of word of mouth and referrals. I was hoping that general feedback and a conversation would provide some encouragement and opportunity for growth. This is apparently something that Mr. Chase is not interested in. My suggestion: PROCEED WITH CAUTION!
