Great little bakery and breakfast spot. Their pan dulce is Central American style (as best I could tell) so their concha's (my fav) were a little different than what I'm used to but still very good, and most importantly, fresh. Their atole de elote is thick as pudding and well spiced. My breakfast was ready SO FAST and it was great.

Went to Veronica's bakery today in Springfield. Very neat and clean inside and we were seated immediately. The server was pleasant and took our orders. The food came out after a short time but it was evident it was freshly made. My friend and I both ordered meat and cheese papusas, my friend ordered a tamale and I ordered yucca in addition to the pupusas. The pupusas were some of the best I have had in the area. Good size, plenty of filler and cooked just right. Just the right amount of cabbage and thin tomato sauce to go with them. Very good. About halfway through eating my pupusa the yucca came out. Golden brown, hot, fried to perfection. I finished by pupusas and dug into the yucca, delicious! Good food and service what more can you ask for?

Let me start by saying I've only had their 3 Leches (3 milks) Cake. I went to a birthday party years ago and someone said, "we got this because it's the best 3 leches in the area." My curiosity peaked and I was not disappointed. A lot of tres leches cakes in the area are watery or they add canned fruit that takes the quality down. The 3 tres leches cake here is on point! And if you could see my face when I asked if if i could special order a Chocolate 3 Leches and they said yes!

Where a regular person sees "Grand Opening" and thinks 'hey, I should check that place out', a Yelper sees that sign and thinks 'FTR FTR OMG FTR!!!'. And that is how I came to be lunching at Veronica's today. Located on the backside of Springfield Plaza (near the rear door to Hard Times), I would probably never have happened upon this place if I hadn't been running an errand next door. My first blush having handed over $9.90 for the Flauta platter and a bottle of water was 'Um a tad pricey'. (There isn't a price to be seen anywhere in the place for anything so you'll have to ask if you want to know any.) But when my piled plate came and I began to tuck in, after one bite of chicken flauta it was 'Holy cow! That's tasty. Going to have to come here and try some other stuff.' Not often one bite of food at a new place will do that to me. My platter consisted of 3 crispy chicken flautas, rice, a little refried beans, pico de gallo, and a salad. After having to stare at the pastry case the entire time I ate, I couldn't resist and went back up to the counter to get a deliciously flaky palmier to have on the way home. Oh so delectable - who cares if I got covered in puff pastry crumbs. A very satisfying lunch. And I will be back.

This review is based on the carne molida con tajadas that I thoroughly enjoyed. This is a classic Honduran dish and was delicious. I was honestly not expecting much because many salvadorean/Honduran places I've eaten around the DMV serve okay food but not really great. This right here hit the spot!! I noticed that they also serve Mexican and even Peruvian dishes as well but I can't speak on those items.. I've yet to find a place that can make all dishes from various countries really great so I'm curious to try. My kids ordered the chicken flautas which were good too. This is something you really can't mess up though. They are served with "crema" instead of sour cream which is essentially the same thing but some people might not be accustomed to it. Consistency is different, slightly runny and has an off-white cream color. I love it with refried beans. The place is pretty big and is also a bakery as the name implies.. In the back of restaurant there is a playroom for kids which I thought was pretty cool. The bathroom was also pretty clean. I'm definitely coming back.

Getting there around 8AM, they weren't very busy. Tried their cinnamon roll, honey chicken w/egg biscuit, and their breakfast potatoes. Unfortunately, they only serve Starbucks coffee, which is far from a fav of mine, but it can be tolerable (it's usually too "burnt" and bitter tasting)... In this instance, it was actually decent. The food took about 10 minutes to prepare and came out piping hot. The cinnamon roll was room temperature, as it came from the display case and it was excellent! Lots of great flavor and it resembled croissant dough - Not sure if that's what they use to make it, but it's amazing! The biscuit was nice, but crumbled too easy... fortunately due to the size, I decided to use fork & knife to eat it, so the biscuit's inability to hold everything together didn't matter to me. The flavors were great! Definitely very nicely done. Those breakfast potatoes were VERY tasty - yum!!! Service was very nice... the clerk who took our order was friendly and helpful.

We tried three items: the red velvet cake, the mocha cake, and an apple pastry (not sure of the exact name, but it reminded me of an apple turnover/empanada). Let's start with the red velvet cake, so good. Moist, flavorful, and honestly better than I expected. Red velvet is one of those cakes that's easy to mess up, but they executed it perfectly. What impressed me even more is that we bought it right before closing, didn't eat it immediately, and it still tasted amazing hours later even after being refrigerated. The mocha cake was well-made, soft, spongy, and clearly high quality, but it just wasn't for me. It has a strong coffee flavor, so if you're a coffee person, you'll probably love it. For me, it was about a 6/10. Now the real star: the apple pastry. This was everything. Perfectly flaky, lightly crisp on the outside, and filled with fresh, flavorful apples. It melted in your mouth! could've easily eaten multiples of these!! Service was also a highlight. Even though we came in right before closing, the staff was kind, patient, and efficient. Nothing felt rushed, which I really appreciated. The shop itself is cute and quaint. Perfect for a quick stop or a casual treat. Overall, Paris Baguette delivered. Some items may come down to personal preference, but the quality is there. I'd absolutely go back, especially for that red velvet cake and the apple pastry . The garlic cream cheese bread was AMAZING - unbelievably soft and fluffy with a warm, creamy center. At first glance it looks like it would be heavy, but it's actually really light and easy to eat. The garlic flavor was perfect and not overpowering. The garlic sausage block was also delicious, buttery and savory with the sausage baked right inside the bread. For something sweet we got the chocolate cream donut, which was the perfect level of sweetness - not overly sugary at all. For drinks we tried the iced matcha tiramisu and the iced jasmine green tea. The matcha was really good quality. I couldn't taste the tiramisu flavor too much (probably because we mixed it), but the matcha itself was excellent. The iced jasmine green tea was exceptional - super refreshing and hydrating. The cashier was also very patient and helpful with my indecisiveness while ordering, which I really appreciated. The items we asked to have warmed up came out pretty quickly too. The space itself is really nice as well - lots of seating and plenty of natural light, making it a great place to sit and enjoy your food. Tons of seating now as they have a front & back section which I think is newer. Several big-screen TV's playing soccer - super foreign and cool. All Latino customers here which is a good thing as far as authenticity. Staff did speak OK English enough to ask us about options in our order. You order and pay at the counter, then they bring food out to your table. All disposable tableware here. And beware - portions don't look filling but they will make your stomach explode. *Pupusas: We ordered the "mixed" which is a set of 3 pupusas, I'm going to assume a pork, a cheese & beans, and a chicken - based on my tasting of them. They are fresh tasting, lightly greased, encased in corn flour. They aren't the most filling-loaded pupusas I've, had but the quality is still very delicious and excellent for the price. *Tacos de carne: YUM!! Corn tacos with beef, and plenty of fresh chopped veggie fixins in the tacos. They are very generous with lime wedges that are actually almost half a lime each, and you get two lime pieces with your order of two tacos. This made me feel like I was down in California again. *Yuca con chicharon: Fried yuca strips with humungous chunks of pork rinds and Salvadoran pickled slaw. The pork chunks are lightly yet beautifully flavored with a tough outside and a somewhat juicy inside. The slaw here has more of a tomato flavor which seemed overpowering - I usually like a more tart sour slaw to complement the savory pork. Nonetheless this dish was excellent. Multiple ladies on Yelp have complained here about the men who stare. I'm a man, came with a man friend, we're not Latino, and we got stared at quite a bit - but it was only from an old couple. In my culture (Vietnamese) many older folks will stare at the non-Vietnamese customers because of our amazement and curiosity that they enjoy our food. I would hope that this old couple at J&S meant the same thing. Just give them dirty looks and glares when they stare at you and they will turn away. No biggie, what are they gonna do to you? And I'm so coming back here, so glad I live just a few blocks away from this gem of an authentic Salvadoran cafe.

The worker at first looked confused when I mentioned the weekend special platter, and after I showed her the Instagram post from Jummah Bakery about the special, she at first said that it was a breakfast item only. The Instagram post listed a time from 10am-1pm, and it was noon when I arrived. When I pointed out the time, the worker seemed to make excuses again to say that the item wasn't available that day. This was despite signage in the restaurant mentioning about the weekend special. Also I was weirded out by the fact that there are burgers on the menu, it seemed really unnecessary. *Wraps: We ordered the chicken kabob wrap and beef gyro. I suppose they were edible, but very lacking of the level of depth and flavor typical of Afghan food that you'd find in the typical Afghan kabob restaurants in the area. The chicken wrap even contained ketchup which turned the flavor into basic American!! *Desserts: We also ordered multiple pastries / sweets that were behind the very inviting glass displays. My favorite was the baklava, the remaining ones I tried were just okay. As usual with this type of cuisine, the desserts are quite sweet. *Tea: They have multiple types of chai tea, I ordered one, it seemed to lack in actual tea flavor and had a weird egg flavor that didn't balance well with the tea. I wouldn't order it again. As much as I want to support a neighborhood ethnic-owned business, the questionable customer service and watered-down food makes me hesitant. It's really sad because the bakery looks very beautiful and has so much potential, but I think it's not managed well, the customer experience ends up feeling bizarre and inauthentic.
