Honda/Vern Eide: huge fail. Our Pilot has 6700 miles on it and has been in the shop 4 times for safety systems dropping off. Today they offered to buy it back for trade in/wholesale auction price. How very big of you. Zero follow up. Honda corporate is stonewalling me. I think I will make a huge lemon sign and go park in front of the dealership for like a month. read more

I took my vehicle to Vern Eide to get a check on an issue with the dash. When they finally texted me with the issue of the car, they said it was the front camera. However, to fix it, they said I need a whole new windshield, camera, and bracket. When I tried to find out if there was a way to fix my car without getting a new windshield and having to pay roughly $3,000 for said windshield, they said it wasn't possible, as the camera is a part of the windshield. I'm a young, female college student and I just took my car to someone local to look at it. When I told him what Vern Eide said, he went out to my car and, from the inside, took the camera out of the bracket in less than a minute. They completely tried to take advantage of me and get more money out of me than needed to be spent. I will absolutely not return. Beware if you send your college student here for repairs, as they absolutely will try to do this again to someone else. read more

I submitted an application... I don't have the best credit, but their ad said they work with all credit types and that's why I did everything online, so I wouldn't waste my time getting rejected in person. A few weeks later they contacted me to come in, they gave me an option of vehicle that they said I'd be approved for on an agreed down payment. When I got there they sat me down with their finance manager, who made me feel judged and embarrassed over my credit report, then told me to sit down and wait while they discuss - came back and said they "missed" something on my credit report and told me they wanted $7000.00 down for a $12500 car!!! They made it right and then some on an issue that likely was not even their fault. On 7/6/2022 I brought my 2018 Accord in for an oil change and tire rotation. The have a 'fast track' service which is pretty convenient....it starts when they open and you can come in first come first serve without an appointment for routine services. I was there before 0730 and got right in. Asked for oil change and tire rotation, handed my keys over. Very polite. So far,so good. In the customer waiting area I enjoy a coffee. The service attendant comes in and says they are done.....everything looks good. I ask about the tires too.....it just seemed pretty quick. Was told they forgot to do them. Was told I could stay and get them done but now other customers are in front of me so "it will be awhile".... I am leaving town so just said I would get them done another time. I drive down the street to Hy-Vee gas station and I just had an intuition they didn't fill my wiper fluids (which is listed as something they check and top off w oil changes) and wow.....it was less than half full. It was not done. At that time I called back to speak to the manager of service and explained the whole visit screw ups .....he was apologetic, gave me his direct line & offered to have me drive back there and he would make sure the tires were done quickly. I did not feel at that point any faith that that would go well and I had other things to do before I left Sioux Falls. At that point I was even wondering if they had actually did the oil & filter change. Did anyone even open the car hood? That's not a good feeling to have. Staff were polite, coffee was good......but that's not what I came for. Sadly, Very disappointed in the service stop that day. read more

I am from out of town. I called them for an appointment on my Honda Pilot for Friday morning. It needed break work and they told me it would be done same day. The car was in the shop early morning. I received a call at 4:30 pm same day and was told that the car had not even made it in the shop. They said it would be done the following Monday. Best cars on the road, worst service in town. The service department doesn't take appointments or walk-ins. You schedule a day of the week to leave your car there (open to close) where they diagnose the issue. Then you schedule a day in the future to leave your car (open to close) for the repair. You absolutely must have a spare car and multiple free days to get even the simplest repair performed here. 6-12 update: Waited 5 minutes to check in and then the guy slammed the clipboard onto the hood of my $30k V6 Accord to copy down the VIN for an oil change...why do I keep coming back?! Update: Had the rear brake pads on my Honda CR-V replaced. $200!!!! That's double the price of any reasonable repair shop. read more

I first went to Vern Eide Honda 2 years ago after hearing about some great lease offers. I traded in my '07 Camry and got me into a 2013 Honda Civic. $0 down $0 due at signing they also paid for my taxes and first months payment I was amazed. About a year later after realizing I wanted something bigger they really worked with me and were able to get me out of my lease and into a '14 CR-V. My payment increased but only because I was breaking my lease 2 years early. Now this year (2015) I got a call saying they wanted my '14 CR-V back (hail damage and all) and got me into a 2015 CR-V with $0 down and actually lowered my payment about $12/mo AND threw in a prepaid maintenance card so I don't have to pay for ANY of the normal service. I own a 2013 CRV. I tried to buy it from Vern Eide. We went in with a firm price from an out of town dealer. Test drove the car and told the salesman we would buy it on the spot for that price. He basically said we were lying. It was not possible to buy it for that price. We got back in our car, called the other dealer from Vern's parking lot, bought the exact same car for the price we had in hand and drove there and picked it up the same day. It was almost 10% below Vern's price. In January, the AWD light came on after the car had been parked for about 4 hours in 9 below temps. A quick internet search revealed this to be such a common problem that Honda issued a service bulletin about replacing the AWD relay and the resulting computer code the relay failure would trigger. The next morning the light was off so I chose to wait until a few weeks before the warranty expired to take the car in to have any warranty items fixed. Today was that day. I made the appointment a couple of weeks ago and explained to the appointment maker why I was bringing it in. When I got there today the service advisor asked why I didn't bring it in earlier. I explained. He said they would check for computer codes but, if there was no code, it would cost me $100 for the diagnostic check. I showed him the service bulletin number, he looked it up and said yes there was such a service bulletin but they had to pay their service techs and if they couldn't bill Honda, it would be up to me to pay the $100. I left furious. I called the general manager. He was "unavailable." They routed me to the service manager. He asked me what I wanted. I told him I wanted my car checked for the AWD code and have it fixed under warranty. If there was no code, I wanted them to thank me for being a Honda owner and send me on my way. He said he would check into it and call me back. It's now 5 hours later. He has not. Unfortunately, since I bought the car, Vern Eide bought the out of town dealership where I bought it. I've decided I have no trust in Vern Eide Honda and will not entrust my car to them no matter how this issue is resolved. read more

Recent unpleasant experience with the service department. I brought my Certified Pre-Owned Honda in to get the lamp on the heater/ac fan control knob replaced. One of the service advisors told me that it was not covered and then quoted me $100 for what took me ten minutes to replace. Revised 10-22-2009. Exchanged emails with the service manager and he assured me that they are not out to gouge customers and that the service advisor must have quoted a one hour charge based on the fact they don't replace many of these bulbs. Go figure, me, a non auto mechanic did it in ten minutes. Took my vehicle in for the 60K service. Pleased with work minus getting charged for an air filter that was not replaced. The service advisor removed the charge right away. read more

Got a recall notice on my wife's 2012 Accord. it said right in the recall notice it was a 45 minute job to replace the inflator on the passenger side. I have owned Hondas since my 1983 Prelude in New York. When I moved to Sioux Falls in 1996 I started going to Vern Eide. Since that time I have purchased 3 cars from that dealership and had every bit of maintenance done there. I have never had one iota of trouble from anyone there, salesmen, parts department or service department. Everyone has always been polite and helpful. I recently took my car in for maintenance work that would take a number of hours and they made an appointment for me to come in. One gentleman took me home and when the work was done another gentleman came to get me. In fact, I ordered a set of floor mats and they installed them at no cost. I will never go anywhere else to purchase a car or to maintain it. read more

Seems like all they care about is making money and not having satisfied customers. I had to replace a tire less then a month ago and went there since I bought my car there. Now it popped bumping a curb at 15mph and I have to pay more than the first time to get a new tire! Explain to me how my back tire that bumped the curb and is a year older didn't pop, but my brand new one did. They ridiculous and don't care about the people or the cars just the bottom line. read more

I brought my car into Vern Eide Honda for it's 90,000 mile service, when I called into check to see if it the service was complete I was told that the water pump was going bad and it would cost $135.00 to replace it. I agreed to have it replaced. After work, I came into pickup my car and found out that it cost $600.00 dollars to replace the water pump. Labor and coolant wasn't included in the price they gave me. My car still needs tires and brakes I called Tires Tires Tires and their prices always include the cost of labor and parts, the only way they do business. So I think Vern Eide deceived me out of a lot of money. They also replaced my wipers with out me asking to have them replaced. Also I have been doing business with them since 1999. I'm disappointed in their lack of giving me all the info I need to make an informed decision and when I tried to discuss this with the Service Tech, he was less than helpful. He blamed me! Vern Eide is not the place it use to be where the customer was important to them. read more
