I have used their FTP, Internet, and networking services. I have found them reliable and able to deliver technology services to small businesses like mine as needed. If you have a small business in RVA or need Internet and TV access for your multi-unit dwelling, I recommend Access Technology 100%.

I had dial-up service for over a decade, because DSL was not available at my address. Access Tech was always a quick, local phone call away, and I always got a live technician. Only once were they not able to completely solve my half dozen problems in twice as many years. And then the tech completely diagnosed my situation, and his prescription, upgrade from Win 95 to Win 98, completely fixed everything. After I graduated from VCU, I needed my own high-speed internet service at home. Access Tech set me up with Clear, which was only down a few hours, during thunderstorms, maybe 3 times in 5 years. Then Clear was bought out by a big cell phone company, that kicked them off their network for more cell service. Now I have hosting for my web comic site through Access Tech, and they even created an updated, improved version of my site for me. Their service has been everything I've ever wanted.

I was visiting my mother in my home state, so we stopped by to transfer ownership of her account from me into her name. The rep was pleasant and took care of it right away, while also securing her a lower rate. Since I was there already, I asked if there were any discounts for my own account. Yes - he locked me into a lower rate as well. I was careful to say that I wanted to retain my existing services. Instead, he canceled my flex tv box and I didn't notice the line item difference as I wasn't necessarily looking for it given our conversation. I wasn't aware until I drove home to Virginia and couldn't connect to my TV. I contacted a chat agent first and got absolutely nowhere. I explained the whole situation and they replied by asking me to explain the situation. Oof. So I requested a call instead. The phone rep was lovely and spent 15 minutes working to restore my access. However, since the Jersey rep had turned off my flex box and it was an older model, she told me I'd need to visit a Comcast store to attain a newer box. That brought me to the Xfinity store in Short Pump last night. After a decent wait, the overworked, clearly exhausted rep helped me swap out my box. Just now, I tried to install it and guess what? Xfinity provided me with the dustiest, hairiest (yes, human hair) old Xumo box. That didn't include an HDMI cable as the box claimed it would. Sorry, but where's the quality control? Luckily I know someone who has an extra HDMI cable and can give it to me tomorrow, so Xfinity won't feel my immediate rage but seriously? So many screw ups, nothing easy for the customer. If I had to drive another 40 minutes (there and back) to get a freaking cable, I would've lost my mind. None of this should have happened. And their prices shouldn't be so dang high that we have to negotiate a lower rate every couple of years either. Not to mention, remember when companies would offer credits for issues like these? Ha. The good ole days. Of course I may need to get a new box regardless if they gave me a refurbished junker. If so, I'll be sure to update yall. TBD.

This is a fire hazard. I have called every week over 10 times and get scripted information from the customer service representatives with no results. After the last call I was credited 1penny, yes 1 cent, .1 to my account. For what? I even went to the physical store and was told we only do sales, we can't help. Now when I check the ticket number on their website it states not available. When you need repair from Xfinity, they are the worse and just leave the customer hanging.

We came in looking for a new laptop, and while the associate did ask if we needed help, the interaction went downhill from there. The laptop we were interested in was a sale item, and instead of respectfully helping us compare options, the associate made belittling comments. He insisted he would never buy an older model, since he only purchases newer ones. When I asked why manufacturers continue to produce and sell older models if they were not reliable, his response was dismissive--essentially saying that only the bigger, more expensive ones are worth buying. We always do our research before making a purchase. Sometimes you need the most powerful product, and other times a more affordable option works--especially if it comes with a warranty or trade-in program. The truth is, older models are still widely used and even bought back by the companies themselves. What ultimately made us walk away was not the product, but the poor customer service: the rudeness, the unwillingness to listen, and the pressure to spend more money based solely on his personal opinion. In today's economy, customers deserve respect, honesty, and guidance--not condescension. This experience left a very poor impression, and I strongly suggest more training for employees on professionalism, listening skills, and understanding customer needs.

Price match became a fight each time even with a membership. It is because of the horrible customer service we will be shopping elsewhere. The no can do attitude I encountered with several customer service line level and management level employees shows me nobody cares. It is a shame it appears another company will soon lose more business in this economy.
