It is not very often that I give five stars. There is almost always some sort of crippling drawback to a place. But I have given these guys five stars, and now I will tell my story: I originally ordered from Verdugo Pizza around the time I moved into the area, which was about a year ago. Back then I wasnt vegetarian, just picky. The pickiness hasnt changed, but people accept it because my dietary restrictions have a recognized name. Anyways, I ordered a chicken and olive pizza. What can I say, I liked that sort of thing. The pizza wasnt awesome, but not great, and I didnt go back for a while. I actually dont order pizza very often simply due to the fact that I get it rather frequently at work (yes my work feeds us). Somehow I got a big pizza craving about a month ago, and began checking out the local pizza joints, seeking one with the ultimate trifecta: price, selection, and of course quality. I tried the other places, and they had their pluses and minuses which you can read about if you look at my other reviews. Then I came across the Verdugo Pizza page here on Yelp, and proceeded to go to their website. They had some coupons up which was cool, with some very decent prices. But what really got my attention was some of the ingredients that they offer: Eggplant, Artichokes, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Fresh Spinach. I thought to myself: "oh.... my... a-god!" I couldnt believe that a pizza place had any other veggies than the standard Olives and Mushrooms (which I am quite fond of) and Onions and Peppers (which I am not fond of). So I ordered a large pizza with sun dried tomatoes and eggplant. First, let me say that if you have never had eggplant on a pizza, you havnt lived! Needless to say the pizza was amazing. The crust was crisp, not too thick, not too thin, not dry but not soggy. One large pizza with two toppings for take out wound up being $10.80. Seriously, most other places would charge double that! Which is one of the reasons why I dont order pizza often: it doesnt go very far in regards to what you spend on it. Today I had another craving. I ordered another large pizza with eggplant and artichoke this time. Absolutely fabulous! Good job guys, I am a fan! Their pizza is a little on the pricey side when you go custom cause it ended up being 25 dollars for one large pizza with around 5 toppings on it (mushrooms, olives, onions, bell peppers, and cilantro. Their large is pretty big in size, and crazy how they have a XXXL option haha. The staff inside was friendly, how most small family owned businesses are. Such delicious pizza with fluffy crust. Nothing disappoints me more than a greasy, overly butter tasting crust, but Verdugo Pizza knows how to satisfy my picky pizza needs. Cooked to perfection and always a generous heaping of toppings. Meat lovers and Armenian pizza are our favs beside a good ol' pepperoni (and jalapeño). Cheese has a good pull, but not too much where you have shoelaces hanging out of your mouth. Everything I have had from here is delicious. My favorite is the fettuccine alfredo with chicken and broccoli. We always get delivery, and they are usually much faster than the suggested delivery time. I especially enjoyed the Mexican style pizza - the chorizo they use is amazing and tastes great on pizza. And that crust! Crispy chewy deliciousness, I haven't had crust this good since leaving Brooklyn. The mozzarella sticks were crispy and gooey on the inside with the coveted cheese pull, we ordered 8 and on the first bite wished we'd ordered more. My favorite touch was that they included a little container of pickled jalapeños with each pizza. Perfect for those of us who like it spicy (and love jalapeños on literally everything). In L.A for the weekend and wanted to end Saturday night with some good pizza and Netflix. I made an appeal to ditch the chain gang (Papa Johns, Pizza Hut, and Dominos) and get pizza from somewhere local. After reading Yelp review after review, we decided on Verdugo Pizza and the rest is history. We ended up ordering the XL Alfredo Pizza without the mushrooms. Called it in and they said they weren't able to deliver to our AirBnB (8 mins away ... weird) but we rallied and drove there ourselves for carry out. Now I don't know what I was expecting, but definitely not the place I imagined. It looked old, a little run down, but as though Verdugo Pizza had been around for centuries from the outside and placement of the store. However, we never judge a book by its cover, because hole in the walls tend to be our favorite. There was a lot of confusion regarding our order, for some reason they didn't write down our names or anything and said we didn't call in an order. WEIRD. Our saving grace was we were the only ones who happened to order an XL Alfredo pizza without mushrooms (they have to do better) Okay, for the grand finale (drumroll please) that pizza was worth all the searching, confusion, driving, price EVERYTHING because it was honestly so delicious. My first Verdugo Pizza pizza was a pickup and it was 5 star good. The dough was delicious and was the perfect amount of soft, crispy, stretchy. The toppings were also excellent, a notch above what pizza chains offer. The second order was a delivery and it was more of a 3.5 - 4 star experience I tried their thin crust and was hoping that it would be thin and crispy, instead it was just a bit thinner than their regular crust and floppy soft. Oh well. I'm thinking this is due to the pizza sitting in the box a bit too long by the time it got to our house. Still, everything was tasty and ingredients were excellent. Bottom line. We don't eat pizza that often, but when we do, it will be Verdugo Pizza. Now to counter some other nay sayers. The service I personally experienced both times was great.
