this review is skewed, I live in SF and can already get modern decor, good/cheap mexican food anytime i want. this restaurant seemed to cater for tourists, the decor is modern, the food (while good) was pretty expensively priced. the service was friendly, the drinks good/strong. frankly, i don't come to hawaii looking for mexican. only came here after uncle aaron (hawaiian blizzard) recommended. if you are looking for an authentic experience (either hawaiian or mexican), this is not the place. the food is good, so if you only care for that, then this would be a fine choice. read more

I am a regular diner here and when I brought my off island family in for a quick drink I was turned away from the bar because two open seats at the bar were suddenly no longer for use by customers. Great service every time. The Food is a different kind of Mexican but in a good way. Very tasty and unique. Sometimes it is noisy but that's not their fault. It's small, quaint, easy parking and never a wait. Lunch can be in and out on a Sunday (like us) after the beach to top off your day. Their iced tea is also phenomenal. read more

I've come to realize that Mexican is one of those cuisines I really have to be in the mood for to enjoy properly. I wasn't particularly in the mood for Mexican when I visited Verde but was impressed that they had some vegetarian and even a vegan option. We had a monstrous basket of chips to munch on while we waited for the food to come out. I ordered the stacked veggie enchiladas which were okay. I didn't care for the green sauce too much and thought there was way too much cheese. Hubby on the other hand loved the sauce and devoured his ginormous mahi burrito. 3 stars for the food, 5 stars for the service. Waitress/cashier was excellent. She managed to service a full room, cashier, and check on everyone timely. Very personable and attentive. Margaritas were also yummy. They didn't have one single light beer available! Another great find through Yelp! Had our first lunch on Kauai here. I got the seared ahi tacos and they were wonderful! They are a bit on the pricey side (I want to say $14?) but for the quality and freshness, it's totally worth it. One tip: If you aren't a big fan of spicey, maybe ask for the spicey sauce on the side. It got to be a bit overwhelming for me. We went to dinner here. It's a small place so just know you might have to wait. We were seated in about 15 minutes. No worries. Ordered their special margarita with jalapeños and fresh juice. Highly recommend. It was so good. I could drink those every day and not care about my liver enzymes. Service was good as well. They were good with my kids. I had fish tacos with the catch of the day. Very tasty. The ONLY reason for -1 star is because the salsa. I think every Mexican restaurant needs a star chips and salsa. OMG. This was the worst restaurant salsa I have every had. Oh my goodness I love you Verde. Coming from California I may be somewhat of a Mexican food snob. Aside from the delicious burrito I inhaled, I love that from the outside you'd never ever expect what you will find inside. Their green salsa was amazing, I was practically drinking it. Truly amazing food experience! It is Hawaii's "New" Mexican Fastfood healthy eating! I have never been a fond of burritos or tacos but as soon as I tried Verde's Ahi Tuna Tacos, I was sold! I also ordered their Stacked Enchiladas. yum yum!!! I went to Kauai Island for my honeymoon. My husband and I ended up going to Verde 3 times in our 4 day stay! hahaha! The owner/cook and his wife (behind the register) are just wonderful. The cook busily prepares your food with much gusto putting a sensational mix of flavor and spices on your dish for a salivating experience while his wife attentively delivers your orders to your table with a sweet smile to match. This place has a thing for chili so they like to put some chili flavor on lots of stuff. I personally thought that's a great touch. Don't let the strip mall scare you, this place is pretty legit - one of the better places that we ate while in Kauai. We actually ate here two nights in a row because we wanted to try a couple of different things. The bean and cheese tostada was my favorite. It was perfectly spiced and the portion was plenty for an entire dinner. My friend added meet to it, but she said it wasn't needed - just stick with the bean and cheese and save a few bucks. Also tried the Verde Verde burrito, which was pretty awesome. It was a unique burrito with broccoli, asparagus, potatoes, and spinach. The sauce was kind of creamy and runny, but overall I really enjoyed it. You really shouldn't eat more than half - the potatoes make it a heavy meal. The chips and guac was a HUGE portion. The chips are pretty good, too! The best combo is to split a Verde Verde and a Tostada with a friend. Phone in your order if you are in a hurry - this place gets crowded at dinner time. Verde is a foodie must while you're in Kauai. I think we ate there 2 or 3 times during our week long stay. It's in the Kapa'a strip mall on the Eastern side of the island. You'll be able to find it around dinner time because there will be a line of people out the door. Unless you get there before 6, it will be packed well into the evening. We sat at the bar and were well taken care of by our waiter, Dylan. The owner was really friendly, too and stopped frequently to see if we needed anything. We all had chips and guac (amazing) and also ordered different burritos/tacos -- el pastor, fish and garlic shrimp. The garlic shrimp was my favorite. It seemed strange to us that adding rice & beans was extra...until we realized how big the portions are. If you order a burrito, trust me, you don't need to add rice & beans. If you can save room for the Sopaipillas & Honey, those are awesome too. But don't be surprised if you're too stuffed for dessert. read more

We went to Verde during the lunch hour on Friday and the service was really great. They knew we were in a rush and even offered to pack our sopapillas to go for us to make sure we got out of there in time. The food was great too! I loved the stacked pork enchiladas in red sauce and the stacked chicken enchiladas in green sauce. Totally reminds me of my favorite places in New Mexico. In a sea of Mexican restaurants in Kapaa town Verde is one to make sure you go to! The food is actually less Mexican and more Tex-Mex, but it is amazing! The place has been newly renovated so it is very cool inside, water served in mason jars and lots of cool motif. It is a small restaurant and can get very crowded during dinner rush, so go early or be prepared to wait. I absolutely loved the Al Pastor Burrito, the meat was so incredibly tasty!
