My daughter kept eating my dish but we should have split it as there was plenty. My son and husband split a fish tacos- was told it was good as I didn't get a bite. Got the garlic shrimp tacos (with rice and beans) which were amazing!!! The shrimp were so flavorful and both tacos surprisingly filled me up. The rice was a bit disappointing- dry and lacking the "citrus" flavor they claim to have. Overall, I would say this place is overpriced. It's an interesting Hawaiian-Mexican fusion but just another bougie/bourgeoise Mexican food joint. So if that's your cup of tea, this is perfect. But if you want a hole in the wall, affordable, authentic Mexican restaurant, go somewhere else! read more

Really good house Margarits, but hard to get a traditional lime Margarita. Tacos made with flour tortillas, which is something that does not exist in Mexico, as tacos are always made with corn. The beans I think are from a can, and the guacamole tasted like the stuff they sell prepackaged. Chicken with adobo is not good, and the beef is also bad, it had unwanted nerves and yucky fat. Highly recommended because of delicious food! My family and I tried this for the first time this week while on vacation in Kauai. I would love to go back! The Garlic Shrimp Burrito was superb -- packed with flavor and busting at the seams in size. I ordered it "Christmas style" which has both red and green sauce -- highly recommended. The mule drink was "so-so", nothing special (the reason for 4 stars instead of 5 stars). But the food was fantastic!! My kids and wife enjoyed it too. Horchata had a weird taste to it. Almost no cheese in their enchiladas. Salsa not worth it at all; tasted canned. Not even salt on their pico de gallo. All for $40+. The specialty iced tea was really sweet. Liked that they used local ingredients from nearby farms. We went on a Wednesday night during the holidays. They charged me $5 for the nuggets of dry fish then brought no tortilla?? Or cilantro. When we asked could we have a tortilla (for her taco) that we ordered they asked how many and charged me for that. (It took 10 min after the fish and multiple requests to get the tortilla (for my taco) ‍. Then the cilantro. (.50) My blackened fish taco was awful. Like the fishiest taste I've ever eaten. I still have the taste in my mouth after one bite. Kids nachos. Like three chips had cheese on them. The only reason I even gave it two stars was the fact that they were super friendly. When we were addressed at times we were super polite and they still couldn't get it straight. It took over 10 minutes to get chips and salsa. What few small things that we would requested we had to ask or twice. The staff would not look up or around when out and about at other tables to even see that we were trying to get their attention to get things such as water, silverware, chips and salsa. We were not sat at a table. We were directed by point of finger where to go which apparently our server told us is not supposed to happen. We were never provided a menu. After several minutes I gathered one for myself. Food: we had the ultimate chicken burrito. We ordered it with green sauce. The sauce was more brown and not good in our opinions. Mexican food brought to you by the prepackaged section at your local Safeway! But worse. The disappointment started the minute we stepped into this "award winning" "Mexican" restaurant. The atmosphere that other Yelpers have raved about seemed on par with Baja Fresh circa 2007. Chips came out stale and flavorless, salsa tasted like Pace Picante, and the guacamole...oh god not the guacamole. Unless you like your avocados straight out of a food processor, mixed with something nasty that coats your mouth (mayonnaise??), and DEFINITELY pre-packaged, save your $7. Now, on to entrees. I was just fresh off of making a comment about how you can get great ahi anywhere in Kauai, but I hadn't been here yet. To be fair, though, the fish tacos came coated with the "guacamole" that I loved so much earlier and some mayo-based sriracha sauce, so I might have not actually tasted it. The cilantro rice was partially cooked sushi rice with some dried cilantro tossed in, and the refried beans definitely came out of a can. One of the main reasons we were drawn to this spot was that others (and the website) had highlighted the solid gluten-free and veg options, touting fresh, island-grown produce. The stacked veggie enchiladas proved this to be a lie. First off, props to whomever wrote the review calling out that the "green sauce" was brown - on point. The "fresh veggies" stuffed inside the store-bought tortillas were fresh from the frozen section at your local grocer. All in all, lunch for two (including two drinks) came out to $78, and we weren't even able to eat half. Hey, at least the drinks were pretty decent - I'd recommend the Cultured Mule (made with kombucha!) and the Daytime Sangria to get you through your meal if you're forced to eat here. read more

We live on Kauai and have never been to the Kapaa location. This review is for new location in Lihu'e. We went at 11:30 for lunch. Super crowded and noisy. Seated back by workers station and bathrooms. Staff very friendly but overworked. Took 15 minutes to get beverages and one hour to get food. Our lunches were excellent. I doubt we will go again due to the wait for food and beverages. No view of course since it is in a shopping center. Cost was approx $50 for two - both a la carte items, one soft drink and one 9.00 beverage. read more
