Seafood Platter
Jovonna D.

First time here and we were pleasantly surprised. Driving pass and just pulled into the parking lot. Not real busy on this particular Friday night, so that was a plus. Nice size place with a bar. We were greeted and seated right away. Our server was very friendly and helpful. We ordered just entrees and a couple drinks on special. We had the whole fried flounder and seafood platter. Both entrees came with a side and a salad. We got the house and a ceaser salad and fries. All of the seafood came out hot and fresh and was seasoned well. The flounder crust was the right amount of crisp and the fish was white and fluffy. The seafood platter was equally flavorful. It came with catfish, shrimp, oysters and a stuffed crab, all fried nice and golden. The stuffed crab was a surprise bonus, very delicious stuffed inside the actual crab shell. We washed it down with a traditional Margarita and the special of the day, a blueberry lemon drop. I think we spent about $57 for everything before tip. Well worth it. Great food, great price. Will definitely be back!

House Salad with Remoulade Dressing and added Grilled Shrimp

A long long time ago in a previous life, I lived in Slidell, LA for about for about 4 years and in NOLA for another 6. While I lived here, I learned a few things about where to go and what to eat! Vera's is tucked away in a little strip mall off the beaten path. It's not a place tourists would ever find. But let me tell you the food is exceptional. I started out with a cup of seafood gumbo. It was good, but not great. The choice for dinner was either the fresh grilled speckled trout or the fried whole flounder. The trout was amazing. It came with the fresh veggies, and they were perfection. Now you also about the other dish in the photos. That is their house remoulade salad with 5 grilled shimp added, and it was exceptional!

Chargrilled oysters

Today I have to give them a 3 star because of the food. Food: The pasta dish with the catfish and shrimp was conflicting. The fish and the shrimp was tasty, seasoned really well, but the pasta was not pleasant tasting. It had no taste, kinda watered down taste. This will not get ordered again. I love their chargrilled oysters, but today they were almost burnt. Not buttery but they gave extra bread that was drenched in butter so it made the bread a little cold. Server was nice, friendly young lady and very attentive The gumbo needed some file' maybe..something was missing, can't put my finger on it.

Seafood ravioli special.

I really liked the atmosphere. I had the special seafood ravioli and they were delicious. The bread was the most amazing that I have ever had, melt in your moth good. We also had the chicken strip and it was an enormous serving with really good ranch. The waitres was great and seemed to really want to make sure that I was satisfied, when I didn't eat the salad because the lettuce was brown.

Scallop Platter, which also included a salad.

Vera's Seafood is currently located in an unassuming location in a strip mall. Doesn't look like much from the outside at all. However, once you go in, you'll feel like you have reached the dockside. The maritime decor suits their menu, which as the name would suggest, features fantastic seafood dishes. I am told that Vera's was once located right on the north shore of Lake Ponchatrain. Unfortunately, flooding devastated this original restaurant. After this occurred, Vera's set up shop in its current strip mall location, and just remained there. So, seafood is the focus, and all of it is fresh and well prepared. The daily special is always a good choice, and sometimes includes my personal favorite, the stuffed flounder! Many people enjoy their shrimp dishes, fried, grilled, or in a po-boy. All are excellent choices! I also recommend their scallops... Vera's is one of the best seafood choices in Slidell, and is well worth the short drive from the downtown area. Don't let the plain exterior fool you, there's a great restaurant hiding in this strip mall.

Everything is made fresh and cooked to order--always hot and full of flavor. In the five years we've lived in Slidell, Louisiana, there hasn't been a single time that the food wasn't absolutely delicious. The fish is perfectly seasoned, and the shrimp always tastes fresh and seasoned just right. Outside of the food, we also come for the sweet tea. I don't know who's making it back there, but it is consistently good every single time. The customer service is another reason we love this place. The ladies are always kind, welcoming, and attentive. They bring your food out to the table, check on you to make sure you have everything you need, and are more than happy to pack your food to-go if you can't finish it. For two people, we typically spend around $55 for the Impeccable Seafood Platter and two drinks--but honestly, it's enough food to feed about four people. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for fresh, flavorful seafood and great service.

But every now and then, a meal grabs you by the taste…read morebuds, smacks you across the face with flavor, and makes you say, "Lawd have mercy, this is what eating in Louisiana is all about." That was our night at Gallagher's in Slidell. We started like locals do: I had the chicken and andouille sausage gumbo, while my grandmother went straight for the turtle soup. Both bowls hit the table with the kind of depth you only get when somebody's been stirring that pot with love, patience, and a wooden spoon seasoned by a hundred Sundays. That gumbo had the holy trinity preaching, and that turtle soup could have converted a non-believer. Then came the knockout round. For me: an 11 oz filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes. For my grandmother: pampano fish with mirliton stuffing. Now listen, I've had a lot of steaks in my life. But this filet? This filet was different. This filet was butter-kissed, seared on a 500-degree plate, and cooked so perfectly it practically sang "When the Saints Go Marching In" with every bite. Melt-in-your-mouth good, eyes-roll-back-in-your-head good. I would've licked the plate clean, but with 500 degrees of molten butter, I'd have left Gallagher's looking like a crawfish boil accident victim. Worth it? Maybe. The pampano and mirliton stuffing? Out. Of. This. World. Seasoned like somebody's MawMaw was back there in the kitchen making sure you didn't leave without remembering what real Louisiana food is supposed to taste like. And then there was Desiree Faith. Let me be clear: the food at Gallagher's was phenomenal, but she was the reason the night became unforgettable. Desiree doesn't just serve. She elevates. She embodies. She executes at a level that turns dinner into an experience and guests into family. Serving, when it's done with this much purpose and precision, is not a job. It's a calling. And Desiree is the benchmark. The gold standard. The one every other server in Louisiana should be taking notes from. She read the table like a seasoned conductor leading an orchestra. Every move, every check-in, perfectly timed. She anticipated needs before they became requests, delivered everything with warmth and grace, and carried herself with the kind of presence that makes you feel cared for, seen, and valued. She wasn't just part of the meal. She was the heart of it. Exceptional doesn't even begin to describe it. She made such an impression on me that when the check was signed and the plates cleared, I hugged her. That is the kind of impact she leaves. Gallagher's should be proud beyond words to have her. She is not just a rock star, she is the lighthouse, the benchmark, the living definition of impeccable service. Gallagher's isn't just a restaurant. It's a front-row ticket to Louisiana flavor, hospitality, and soul. You leave full, you leave happy, and you leave knowing you've just been part of something special.
