I took my wife to this high-end restaurant for a birthday dinner under the stars. The entire evening was spoiled by swarming flies at our table. Once our main course was served, we were swarmed by hundreds of big black flies. We told our server, who apologize but said he could do nothing. We talked to the manager who also said he could do nothing. He told us to send him and email explaining what had happened. I've heard nothing from this very expensive restaurant. We were offered a free birthday cake, but refused it, told them to feed it to the flies. read more

Francesco was possibly the most wonderful serving person I've ever had. I am in a wheelchair, go to restaurants daily, and he was so incredibly accommodating and helpful. He recommended the out-of-this-world calamari, Pinot Grigio, and more. David is also wonderful and helpful. I am writing this review for people with serious food allergies. I have no doubt a difficult one: alliums (onion and garlic). We contacted Veranda E in advance to ask about my allergy and they made it sound like it would be no problem. Long story short, after explaining the allergy to the waitress, figuring out what I could eat and confirming with her that she would make sure that the kitchen was aware of the allergy, I was poisoned. After one bite of the beef fillet I noticed that my mouth was burning, my lips were tingling and on inspecting the food I found small pieces of onion. Fortunately, my allergy is not anaphylactic just very bad food poisoning and respiratory symptoms. Although I only ate one bite and took benadryl, it was still enough to keep my up sick all night. The waitress said she wrote a note on the order about the allergy that was not seen but did not verbally notify anyone in the kitchen. This seems like lack of training. Employees at fast food restaurants are well trained in handling food allergies, I know Veranda E can do better. They did give us free dessert that we did not order and which I could not eat as my stomach was starting to turn. All in all, it was a rather expensive bout of food poisoning. read more

Veranda E is THE PLACE. A+ 5-STAR SPECTACULAR! We came here to celebrate a dinner after Alex B+ bought herself a new car, and I mighty nice car indeed. Her uncle has come to this place quite a few times now, but this was the first time he brought us. It was 8:45 at night on a Wednesday and the place was packed. Car buying took longer than expected, so we had to push back the reservation, twice. They were extremely accommodating and the reservation changes were no problem at all. You enter through a brick circular driveway. The restaurant is located poolside at the Hotel Escalate. The ambiance is comfortable and relaxing and elegant. SO LOCAL, SO FRESH, SO AWESOME!!! Keep in mind, the food is very pricey, but everything is well worth it. Both myself and Alex B+1 got the Ginger BBQ Boneless Beef Short Ribs, Maui Onion Rings & Garlic Mashed Potatoes. We did not share, we each got our own. We were starving and this was a celebration! The food was pure AMAZING. I can eat a lot, and I was starving, and I ate it all, but holy cow was I filled up like a jelly doughnut when I finished. It was a bit uncomfortable to finish because my stomach was so full, but the food was just so damn delicious that I continued to stuff my face. Alex B+1 is not as much of a trooper when she gets full, and is wise enough to take some home. If she still has some left over in the fridge when I get home from work, I might seriously finish them. Other notable dishes from our party included the Heirloom Tomatoes, Mozzarella di Bufala and Aged Balsamic and the hite Stone-ground Corn Grits as a side. The grits were described as so smooth and silky you could hardly tell they were grits. Also, recommended is the Hot-n-Crunchy Black Grouper Sautéed with Almonds, Sesame Seeds, Ginger and Chili Flakes with Mango Chutney Sauce and Tropical Rice. Be warned, so much stuff comes from local markets that it is possible that the food may come out a bit inconsistent, but our meal was night was had more consistency than the Republican Party's hate of Obamacare! Everybody was very pleased! Next time we are in Naples, I am definitely finding a way to make it back here. And once we get to Veranda E, we are going to try the Crispy Whole Red Snapper (3lbs+ for Two) with Spicy Lemon Grass Citrus Ginger Sauce. The snapper comes from Hawaii (according to the staff). They literally deep fry a whole fish and filet it right at the table for you. Alex B+1's uncle said he was a little squeamish at first, but once he sung his teeth into it, it was immediately apparent that this was the BEST FISH HE EVER HAD! I am intrigued and cannot wait to come back to try. We closed down the restaurant and despite our lingering, the staff remained extremely friendly and hospitable. Veranda E truly deserve a 6th star and about 10 more plus signs after my A+ grade above. read more

Well here we go again. Ordered the snapper and our other guest ordered the scallops both were well prepared, so then the story begins. My wife ordered the filet $48. It was ordered medium it arrived with two 6 oz filets one well done the other rare. It was brought to the attention of our waiter and he took the meal and said it would be remedied. 15 minutes it comes back, well both pieces bleeding very rare. By then our dining experience was over, and our meals were finished. It was returned, no apology no offer to comp her meal until I told them we weren't paying for it. No visit from the manager until we cornered him and said he would speak to the chef, really? Believe me there are some very good restaurants on 5th Ave this one isnt, don't risk your evening. read more

IMHO, there are 3 elements to a great dining experience. The food is of primary importance, followed by service and completed by ambience. Veranda E hits it out of the park with its entrees. All three of our selections were exceptional. One relative weakness was the lobster bisque starter. The presentation was strange, in that it was cup sized but served in a huge bowl. My wife commented that it looked like they ran out of the proper serving bowl. But that was the only minor complaint. Our server, Molly, was pleasant and informative. I commented that our table wobbled. She apologized and immediately figured out a way to shore the legs up. No mean feat on the brick deck of the beautiful pool dining area. The balance of the meal she seemed to magically appear whenever we needed her, and vanished to allow us dining privacy. The ambience of the restaurant was perfect and perhaps the best non-water dining we'd ever experienced. High recommendation. read more

Do not eat here. We made a reservation, weeks in advance for Christmas eve. A special night with our whole family. Turns out, they had a limited menu from what they usually serve and sold out of their best entrees and appetizers before our 7:30pm reservation. Very odd. This already was a red flag before we even put our order in. After that disappointment, they made us wait 2 HOURS (no exaggeration) for our entrees, all the while abandoning service to our table- my guess is because they felt ashamed and didn't have the professionalism to face us, or even refill our water glasses for that matter. After the brutally long wait, the food wasn't even worth the time wasted and tasted like a meal delivery service, something out of a BlueApron box. Bland. They call themselves french/thai food, but there was no evidence of either of those cuisines at all. They GOUGE you with extreme prices for bad quality food and bad service. Everything was so terrible we had to just laugh and joke it all off to claim our night back. We left that place feeling totally and utterly ripped off. read more

What a beautiful spot! I visited for a family members birthday and had the most wonderful experience. The service is slower, but in a good way. You really want to take in the atmosphere and be able to chat with your table. I had the short rib tortellini and almost wanted to ask for seconds. It was to die for. I tried another persons at my tables short rib with onion ring on top and it was unbelievable. I do not eat seafood, but the rest of my party all had seafood orders. They loved it! My husband and I are staying the weekend at Hotel Escalante. We went to the Veranda E for dinner and the food was even better than the service, which is saying something. The waiters cater to your every wish and the experience along with the food is 5 star. We had the Kung Pao Calamari, it was exceptional. This place is a hidden gem. Don't tell all your friends, or you'll never get in the place. Calamari was quite sweet, but a restaurant of this caliber gives the customer the benefit of the doubt, and our patience was rewarded with a wonderful salad of aged blue, carmelized walnuts, baby lettuce and figs. The scallops were perfectly prepared, and the rice was complex and rich with a variety of mushrooms. Boneless ribs are so tender that they barely stay on a fork. Yummy too. DISHONEST BAIT AND SWITCH - DO NOT GO!!! Firstly, I must state up front that I did not get to eat at Veranda E, for reasons that will soon become apparent. My mother had enjoyed a meal she had there during restaurant week, during which their early bird menu had been advertised. When we checked their website yesterday this menu was listed and looked great. When we showed up and we were given drink menus to encourage us to first order drinks. We were forced to ask for food menus and were only brought the dinner menu, no early bird. After we specifically inquired we were told that they were no longer offering that menu. In its place was a dinner menu with the average entree priced around $50(more than the entire cost of the advertised two course early bird.) It was then evident to us that this restaurant is trying to perpetrate a bait and switch in which they sell people on the promise of an early bird, get them to order drinks before even seeing their actual food menu, and then hope they are shamed into ordering OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced food. This is not the finest restaurant in Naples, but their food is more expensive than Cafe Lurcat, Nemo, or any other restaurants in Naples recognized nationally for their cuisine. UNLESS YOU HAVE A WEIRD FETISH FOR PRICE GOUGING DO NOT GO HERE!!!! read more

Amazing atmosphere BUT the food was overpriced and so mediocre. Service - Terrible. The waiter was obnoxious and at times- rude. He asked us to hang on to our forks after the appetizers/salads because they were running short. He was difficult to understand and spent so much time reading the menu to us rather than offering additional information. I ordered scallops for $42 and was quite surprised that I only received three medium size scallops over a bowl of risotto- not a lot of imagination or creativity for sure. For dessert I ordered fresh berries with an orange cream. I received for $10 a tablespoon of berries over a teaspoon smearing of some sort of paste that looked and tasted more like hummus. Our waters were never refilled and we were even asked by another staff member to leave because another party was waiting which was unbelievable to us since our waiter was gone for long periods of time and we had to wait a long time for the check. Had to give one star, there was no option for ZERO! Dinner was adequate. When we were ready to leave no one could find the keys to our car, which was valeted and no one could even find the valet. Finally a waiter found our keys, to our dismay the car was unlocked, someone had drawn a large sad face on the trunk of our Jag. The glove box was open, the trunk was open, auto head lights were shut off and the drivers seat would not move. One of the wait staff gave us Mary Brandt business card saying call her. After calling several times she call back and said to speak to Ken, he is in charge of valet. Had to pay $360.00 to have car seat fixed. Ken said he is not going to do anything about it. Unique restaurant tucked away in the Escalante boutique hotel, made us feel like we were in Europe. The Chef uses farm to table as much as possible with a nice garden right on the property. Every dish was seasoned to perfection, tender and flavorful. The short ribs were a favorite. And the lemon ginger dessert a perfect ending. Limited bar-wine and beer. Great staff. I was extremely disappointed at a recent dinner at Veranda E. The waiter was inappropriate, loud and intrusive. I thought he'd be more suited to a job at Fridays, not an upscale restaurant such as this. Halfway through dinner, he disclosed his name, Michael, and urged us to write him up on Travel Advisors. Then, when presented with the bill, we noticed that the bill was padded on 3 items!!! We were horrified, and when we asked to have our bill fixed, the waiter disappeared! After15 minutes, we asked to speak to a manager. Instead of a manager, some one appearing to be a busboy appeared, hardly mastering the language. He directed us to call the manager, giving Ana Maria Fioresco's name and email. We left our name, telling them to call us the next day. To this day, we have never heard back from her! Despite the high prices, Rich, my hubby, loves this place. I'm speaking of Veranda E. It's located at 5th Ave. & 3rd St. on the SW corner. It opened February 22, 2013. The restaurant is part of the complex of Hotel Escalante. The hotel has recently gone under new management. To me, it still is one of the loveliest spots for open air dining in Naples. There are no Gulf views but that of the hotel courtyard & their swimming pool. The new chef, Michael Kang, is from Taiwan but raised in southern California with numerous restaurants to his name. He was at the door when we entered at 7:00. I asked if he was the chef but he demurred & gave credit to the staff sweating away in the kitchen. Later, he came out again to ensure that we were happy with his food. His Asian heritage is reflected in the food in a tasty & refined way. The food is the epitome of Continental, American & Asian fusion. If you have been to the previous restaurant here, you know that there is not a lot of space. That's fine by me. It had been rainy during the day so all but one of the canvas walls had been lowered. There were about ten tables in the covered space & an additional 3-4 tables outside. Because of the chill in the air, they had heaters scattered about. These were really cool heaters. They had a tall, skinny pyramid shape. Inside there was a glass tube from top to bottom in which a 3 - 4 four flame rocketed upward. They were even more mesmerizing to look at than a fireplace. I doubt we will see them again until next winter. We had a wonderful bottle of Malbec from Argentina by Pascual Toso. Also, no bread was delivered for any table. This turned out to be just fine as there was plenty of fabulous food to come. This included an 'amuse bouche' from the chef. To the Food! All of the presentations were gorgeous but my appetizer was the most beautiful. I had the goat cheese wontons with a raspberry coulis. The coulis was encircled around my entire plate so that it looked like a red pond with the wontons floating in the center. The wontons were very crispy - just the way I like them. This appetizer was a bit 'dessertish' because of the coulis but it wasn't sickeningly sweet, either. Rich had the tomato & Boccocini (small bites) Buffalo cheese salad because they didn't have a Caesar salad, his normal app. He thought the salad was excellent & that the marinade made it outstanding. The only other salad offered that evening was an Asian pear salad. Veranda E does not have a large menu and only eight entrees. Also, the chef likes to change the menu on a regular basis.On the night that we were there, five of the entrees were about seafood. One was a duck & the remaining two were beef. We had fish. Rich devoured the whole red snapper which they filleted at the table. It was a huge amount of fish. Rich told me that it had a delightful Asian sauce. It included cilantro & lime which Rich declared a perfect marriage of all the ingredients. I had the sushi blue fin tuna with spicy Chinese eggplants. Yes, the eggplant was spicy. I was amazed at the amount of tuna on my plate. Usually, with a sushi dish you see little slices. This tuna was like large beef medallions. I loved it! Hhmmm... what else. Our server was wonderful & doted over us & the food like he was a proud papa. Getting there - is tricky. This complex hides behind large hedge bushes so you can't see it. The driveway is on the 3rd St. side a tiny bit south of the light at 5th Ave. They have valet parking but you could park on 3rd or 5th if you like.This is an establishment that I urge you to go to soon so they don't disappear before we all can give them a chance. My girlfriend and I were visiting Naples for a few days from the West Coast and had one of the most wonderful dining experiences at Veranda E. Where we live, a prix fixe meal of this restaurant's caliber would cost at least a few hundred dollars--not including the wine flights. The value, quality, service, and atmosphere of our meal were absolutely extraordinary. We didn't have a bad glass of wine or bite of food, which were honestly comparable to some the Michelin-rated establishments' we've been to back at home. This was a birthday celebration for my daughter hosted by a good friend. The food was excellent, the service outstanding. The three of us sat on the patio and had a grand time. Starting with a good bottle of wine, we shared the apple pear and beet salads--both were tasty and delicious, especially the cheeses. I had the uku, a Hawaiian fish. All of our meals were perfectly prepared and elegantly presented. The highlight of the evening was the Bananas Foster dessert. The table side building of this amazing dessert was dramatic--and informative--as we learned what each ingredient was and then watched as the concoction was set ablaze and flames tumbled from pan to pan. And it was so good, fruity and spicily flavored, but not at all overly sweet, the glazed bananas with ice cream were superb. A splendid meal! read more
