I think this was quite possibly the worst Mexican food I have ever had. Nice restaurant but the food was tasteless and borderline not fit for consumption. Chips and Salsa-taste like it came from a jar or can with diced onion added to cover that up. Appetizer sampler-beef and bean nachos looked like slop. Ground beef was grayish and tasted tangy?! Egg roll was very doughy, unmelted cheese stick stuck in the middle, and chicken wasn't pleasant. Nacho cheese had film on top and was concession stand cheese sauce. Someone missed the mark on the chipotle ranch. Right idea but terrible execution. Fried jalepenos-bland. You can't even tell what you are eating because it tastes like absolutely nothing. Chicken quesadillas-chicken was okay. It was bland but at least it had a grilled flavor. The cheese was shredded cheese that never melted, at.all. Fish tacos-fish was bland. Piled with so much bland toppings. The saving grace was the green crema it came with. Rice was good, black beans were good. Waitress/bartender never returned after serving my drinks. My husband and I recently decided to try this restaurant for the first time, and we were both very impressed with the food--it was absolutely delicious and definitely the highlight of our visit. Unfortunately, our dining experience was overshadowed by the service we received. Our assigned server (the only male server on staff, though I don't remember his name) took our drink order, but another employee brought our drinks. After waiting about 15 minutes, I had to get his attention just to order the guacamole appetizer. He quickly walked away and didn't return for another 25 minutes to take our entrée order, then left again. Throughout our time waiting for our appetizer and entrees, two other servers were the ones checking on us, refilling our drinks, chips, and salsa, and making sure we had what we needed. Despite ordering the guacamole, we never received it. We tried several times to get our server's attention, but it felt like we were being overlooked. Our server never checked on us again, brought our check, or handled our payment--I was able to wave the manager down instead. We explained what had happened, and while the experience with our assigned server was very disappointing, we made it clear that we plan to return because the food was outstanding. read more

The location is great and the inside is nice and spacious. Service was fantastic, we had some chips and salsa as soon as we sat down. We got some queso dip, it was probably the highlight of the visit. Piping hot and super flavorful. The rest of the meal was a little lacking. I had the Chile Rellenos and it was unique to say the least. The flavors were unlike any rellenos I've had before. They were cooked well, and they weren't bad, it was just middle of the road. If I was to go back I'd get the tacos. They had some good seasoning and had more flavor than any of the other dishes. Great service, good food! read more

This was my first time trying this restaurant on a recco from another family member. The food was really good. Had it to go with my family. The food was still nice and hot when I arrived home. Appreciated the chips and salsa to go as well. The place was clean and people lookedliked the were enjoying themselves inside the restaurant. Will have to dine in next time. I took off one star as it is a little pricey and substitutions cost extra. But since it was good, I will be back again next time in town. read more

On our way to see the blue bonnets in Ennis and stopped off for a bite to eat. Food was great here. The bottle caps were delicious, the chicken chilaquiles were excellent and great chips and salsa. Mexican rice was super heavy on cumin And needed a little more salt. Traditional rice is garlic, onion, tomato, chicken stock and salt. Could have cumin but it was just over powering. That said I would definitely stop here again. Come by and see if you agree on the rice. read more

This was my first time here, we were looking forward to come and get margs on the balcony, coming from the restaurant industry I typically expect water to be on the table within 2 minutes. We waited about 15 minutes before finally someone made an attempt to come give us service, at this point we were standing up walking out... came up the street to give Jalapeño Lemon Tree a try and nothing but excellence. Be careful with the menus. Twice now we've gone during lunch and they only gave dinner menus. Weird that it happened once but twice now...and I'm talking like 12-1pm (definitely lunch time). We arrived for lunch during the week, the place looks inviting and we were seated right away. We got our drinks right away, with warm chips and red medium heat salsa. We didn't get an appetizer but the menu looks appealing, may try some next time. I ordered the Pipian Chicken, it wasn't great, the pipian sauce is served over chicken filet, but the flavor was lacking salt and the plate and food was not hot, not even warm. I do have to give you a star for the salad, it's a cabbage salad with crunchy tortillas thin strips, the rice is tasty but the portion of rice was "tiny", you could easily give double that amount on each plate. I would ask that your server tells you that you are getting a vinegar dressing for your salad, and provided other options. My other 3 coworkers had the beef filet that comes with sweet fried plantains. Hope to come back and try other choices. read more

I freaking love this place. I've only had one dish here and I'll never get anything else. The Pescado Xanath is a seafood stuffed fish, two cheese Enchiladas, brands the fish is unlike anything I have ever had before and the flavor is amazing. I've tried this dish at a few of their locations and it's consistently good. The Midlothian location doesn't have quite the ambience that the desoto location has, but the food and service are very good. read more

Vera Cruz is always good! We've tried several dishes and all have been good. I especially love their sour cream chicken enchiladas and birria tacos! All of their seafood dishes I have tried have been cooked well with generous portions and large shrimp! Food is always out quick and hot. Their queso is huge!! We love the blue corn tortillas, and their salsa has the perfect heat. We love their top shelf margaritas. Service is always good, but last time we went our waiter was out of this world amazing!!! Service was great. Food was delicious. Only two problems. 1. The glass that my beer was in had a strange odor. We had a similar problem in our home until we installed a water filtration system. Smells like a wet dog. 2. Portion size was like a child's plate, I seriously thought they accidentally gave me a kids plate. 3. If I paid $8-$10 for that lunch, it would have been ok. But I paid $17 for two tiny little enchiladas and a tiny serving of rice and a tiny serving of beans. 3 stars because my wife and kids liked it. read more

This is our go to Mexican restaurant in Midlothian. The food is consistent with the exception of one time, which is the reason for not giving this restaurant 5 stars. We love their queso fundido and typically share it with one entree. Portions are generous here. The frozen margaritas are excellent. Highly recommend trying one when you visit. They are a bit on the strong side but the flavor is amazing! The staff is attentive and does a good job when the restaurant is busy. We ate out on the patio recently and enjoyed that very much. The restaurant is tastefully appointed with a good vibe. read more

Their food is always delicious! I especially love all their blue corn items and their cactus desert soup. It is also a great patio spot for warmer weather approaching.
