Food is a little pricey, but not out of line with everything else these days, and it is quite good. I got a Teriyaki Chicken on a stick with my fries the other day for lunch and it was very good. White meat chicken with a glaze of...maybe honey and teriyaki? It was good anyway. Don't look for health food, but for a Maine variety store, it is good.

It's mostly a convenience store and gas station stocked full of all kinds of junk food, pastries, milk, breads and some unique Maine types of weird things. But over on the side of the store is a small grill that manages to produce a whole range of different things. All kinds of cool breakfast stuff, some traditional like several varieties on bacon and egg and toast and other rather uncommon things like breakfast burritos and even something call breakfast pizza. They also have some absolutely gigantic freshly baked cinnamon rolls that smell fantastic and of course the ubiquitous Maine blueberry pancakes. But there is a lot more here than just breakfast. All kinds of pizzas are served throughout the day as well as various sandwiches, fried chicken, burger type things and sea bugs like shrimp, scallops and of course some great lobster rolls. In fact they even have live lobsters and crabs that they will cook for you or you can take them home and kill them yourself. Just an amazing amount of different foods prepared so many different ways. You or course can fill up with gas for your vehicle or get caught up on the latest local gossip too. Not a whole lot of stores around here so they make the best of what they have. A very cool and old fashion type of do everything store. The type that makes Maine such a cool place.

Simple exterior belies rich sumptuous flavors and farm to table freshness to put chez Penisse en garde. Went looking for affordable lobster roll, but switched to 10" wood fired pizzas. Leave your NY pizza attitude at the curb. Your favorite local never fail pizza joint is probably fine, but don't let that put you off trying this spot. We had a Pesto pizza with garlic scapes and zucchini from their own certified organic garden, and a chorizo, feta, and kalamata olives pizza, both on the lightest, thick and fluffy pizza dough in irregular shapes. This is not thin and crispy, but neither is it the thick, pasty, lazy dough you might fear. As I said, it's an unassuming place to look at. Our picnic table was in what looks like a car shed where the wood oven is installed among some other equipment. Pizzas were about $13 each and were not small. The three of us brought back left overs. Ppl very nice. Don't expect linen service, just expect the best pizza you'll have in this county.

Last summer when I ordered a lobster roll, I found that it was different from years past. Instead of using small chunks of meat (from the body portion of the lobster, I believe), they are using the more traditional Iarger chunks of claw and tail meat. I chose the mayo based dressing. It was very tasty. The other choice was a drizzle of melted butter I enjoyed my lobster roll, but I did really miss the old recipe. The price has gone up significantly. I have not had a chance to sample the wood fired pizza. I absolutely love their whoopie pies.

Crock of onion soup is made with Beal broth and was super delicious. My wife had the Waldorf salad and she loved it - she said the dressing needed something, probably salt. I had the fried chicken dinner with garlic mashed and roasted carrots. They fry a whole breast from a small chicken, delish!, black pepper gravy on the side and the mashed potatoes were scrumptious. After visiting the gardens, we weren't sure we wanted to drive 30 minutes the other way for dinner, but we did and we were very happy about it! Everything was outstanding from the drinks and appetizers to dinner and dessert. They say their clam chowder is award-winning. Two in our party had the clam chowder and agreed that it was the best chowder they've ever had. These two order chowder wherever they go. They also had the calamari which they said was excellent as well. The scallops appetizer was GF and was unbelievable. I have a gluten allergy so I had the haddock without breadcrumbs. It was very, very good. I did not get sick, so they get five stars for that. The service was excellent. The vibe was relaxed and friendly. We enjoyed our visit immensely.
