I needed some light weight slacks taken in. I can sew myself but my machine is messed up right now. She seemed nice enough and it wasn't what I consider a big job at all, -I was in no hurry either. We couldn't come to a price point where I was happy w my quote, so I just caved and agreed to pay what I considered to be high-- for what was needed. Had I done this myself it might have taken me maybe 15-20 minutes; it was that easy. The pants fit ok but left much to be desired. She could have made them more fitted as I had requested her to do, several times. I would/might have become a steady customer but with her high prices and lack of attention to what I'd asked her to do.. It was the most simple job ever. Nah. I wouldn't go back. This is a long overdue review for Venus. She is a miracle worker! I needed a bridesmaid dress altered for my sister's wedding last summer on very short notice (due to poorly-executed alterations at another shop) and Venus was able to accommodate me. She completely remade my dress to flatter my body and made recommendations for proper bras and foundation garments. This woman really know her business and explained what the other seamstress did wrong, as well as what aspects of the gown were not complimentary to my figure even before the alterations, and how she would fix them. Venus did such an amazing job altering my wedding dress. It had to be taken in, the lace removed and put back in and hemmed. She worked closely with me and fixed/changed everything I asked for. My daughter and I both had some alterations to be done. Venus agreed to do the work on my daughter's garments for an extremely reasonable price. Then mine. She wanted $10 per pillow case to shorten them from king to standard, Upon writing up my daughter's receipt she went from $12 to $15. When I questioned her about that, she gathered our garments, pushed them towards me and told me she didn't want to do the alterations. I was quite taken aback at this. Venus has done alterations for myself and other members of my family. Every time I bring something in, it is altered exactly how Venus and I have discussed. I have taken items to different tailors in the past when purchasing a new suit and alterations are free with purchase. Those tailor's always have a set way and they wont listen to my input. It was my first time going to Venus shop in Niles where I live . All I wanted was to get my long casual dress hem put up 3 inches from the floor length. This older lady suggested other ideas to have it done which would have costed me twice as much but I declined and asked for the hem up .. I purchase the dress for 30 ! She was charging me 35 . I went along with it . A week later on a raining day i came in with the receipt. The same lady couldn't remember where the dress was at first but eventually found it on a unkept table filled with fabrics . She handed me the roll up dress to me .. no hanger , no bag nothing ! It was still raining out ! I was shock and disappointed, I left in a hurry .. . Once I got in my car I got so mad at myself for not saying anything ! I should have been warned to check how the place looked before entering because I did read some reviews that mention how dirty and messing it is and it really is ! read more

So I went here to get an estimate of how much it would be to trim like 4 inches off my Vera Wang bridesmaid dress. The lady insisted I pay a very high price and I kept saying I'll think about it and if anything I'll just come back to get it steamed.. she just kept insisting I had to get it done and that it's already a bargain price.. (spoke to another bridesmaid she got it at a wayyy cheaper deal) and she said I should just get my dress steamed somewhere else. Absolutely horrendous customer service! The shop looked like a shack as well! Not a place I would expect to get my clothes cleaned. read more

Hidden gem; incredible talent. I tore a stupid hole in the sleeve of my custom suit. Venus was able to take out the entire sleeve starting at the shoulder and redo it from scratch using extra fabric that I had leftover. Masterful! She saved me from having to buy a whole new suit again. In fact, I think the sleeve fits better now than before. I'm so grateful to her and her precision for detail. So good.... read more

My dad took my suit here to have it brought in, the pants and sleeves shortened and to open the back. They completely ruined a brand new suit! The seams were terrible and visible throughout. The suit wasn't even pressed after it was tailored so it was all wrinkled when it was returned , which was the least of the issues. My dad had to take the suit to Jos A Bank to fix the work, otherwise the suit is ruined. I don't know if they're better at altering other items, but the suit alteration was terrible. read more

Guy all i have to say is stay away from that lady. I took 6 high end suites for alteration and she completely ruined all of my suites. She also said that she was going to shorten my jackets and when i can to pick them up, nothing was done, and she kept saying that i didn't pay for the shortening of the sleeves and length of the suite jackets and demanded more money even though the price that she gave me before was for the shortening . She talks a lot but her work is garbage. She has her own tricks how to fool people and charging extra for the work that was to be done in the first place.
