My husband dropped off his vest for patchwork two weeks ago and scheduled for the pick up today. I walked in to pick it up at 12:30, the woman was the rudest person I've ever encountered. She told me to come back in the afternoon. I pointed out that it was the afternoon and that my ticket said today, she proceeded to go on a rant that it was prom season and that I wasn't a priority. Again I asked ok but what time because despite her attitude it was a gift that we needed so she said one hour and looked at the vest and then said never-mind I don't like you so take it somewhere else and snatched my ticket. She hadn't even started on it for a delivery date of today. Terrible terrible customer service, no commitment to follow through on a promise to complete the work. read more

She's a rude and vile person, who is a liar. She told me to pick any Saturday when I dropped off my vest to have 10 patches put on 2-3 weeks ago. I needed it by 4/30 so I gave her until 4/26 because I live far away in the city. I called and asked why it wasn't ready at 12:30P on 4/26. I was rudely told it's prom season and I wasn't a priority. She lied and said I was told that it would not be done until the afternoon on that date. That was nowhere on the receipt and she never told me that. Now why would I drop it off 2-3 weeks in advance and not expect her to have it done by noon on the due date? She makes the rules up as she goes and decides whether or not she's going to do the work regardless of what she's said initially. Just look at her responses to people on her. I got help at a dry cleaners to do the sowing. It's not like it's some time-consuming and complex alteration. read more

Actually No Stars! Adel...she is very rude. I brought my wedding dress to Adel to have it altered for my upcoming wedding. I went into the dressing room to try it on, along with the shoes that I would be wearing. Adel came into the dressing room and looked at it and immediately told me that she couldn't alter it and that it was too small. I didn't understand because she never even bustled the dress in the back. She continued to say it's too small and that I should have got a bigger size because she could fix. I asked her as I'm holding up the dress, if there's anything that could be done? She said no and it was impossible. She suggested that I go to "Sylvia's" shaking her head and working on something else. I'm like who is Sylvia and where is she. I left feeling sad. My wedding was less than a month away. I immediately panic and head to David's Bridal to find another dress because I trusted what she was saying. She would know better than me. I called my fiancé while I was in David's Bridal and told him everything. I was in the process of purchasing a new dress. With alterations it would have costed me over $1000. My fiancé told me to leave and get a second opinion. To make a longer story short I came across "Sylvia's" in Arlington Heights. I tried on the dress, they bustled me in and the dress fit perfectly. The only thing they needed to do was take in the area under my armpit. They also shortened the length. I kept asking the seamstress, "it's not too small?" She laughed and said, "no honey!" "Why do you keep asking that?" I told her that another seamstress said it was too small. She laughed and asked why would she say that? I kept asking myself the same question. So I went back to her after picking up my beautiful altered dress and asked her. She continue to say it was too small and that the dress that I purchased was her size. LIES!!! The dress is a size 16. Adele! You don't wear a size 16. I told her thank you for suggesting Sylvia's because they took care of it. She tiffed and pretty much blew me off the way she did during my last visit! I believe we were just taken back by the fact that as a seamstress she was not able to listen to her customer's request and then to body shame a young lady...but looking at the photos of the business this is the RIGHT PLACE! We agreed on a method to repair a tear in my boyfriend's leather jacket (two elbow patches to make it look even and cover the one rip). When I picked it up, there was a huge patch of fabric on one sleeve and nothing on the other, which destroyed the look and feel of the jacket. It was a keepsake piece which he has treasured for 30 years. I went in to speak with her about it; she was very rude and refused to accept the fact that she should have called me first to discuss the approach if the agreed upon one did not work due to fragile leather. Tried to give me money for it while guilting me about how much time she spent on it. Then told me to buy a new jacket next time as I left. Very unprofessional. Do not recommend. EDITED: Please note how the owner blamed the customer and lied about the agreement for two black leather patches in his response. They accepted a job, did it poorly, did not communicate to me about it (she said she was too busy to call me), and then blamed the me after they had already ruined the jacket. Adel was very nice and did a great job with my dress. I went to her last year. I needed my dress altered for an early December wedding I was attending. The bottom and straps needed to be shortened. I also wanted to add cups because there was just light padding. I tried it on for her to put pins in to get the right length. I picked it up 3 weeks later, but I think she said it would have been ready in 2 weeks. I did a final try on to see how the alterations looked and it fit perfectly! $50 for my alterations, which I didn't think was bad because the fabric was tricky to work with. read more

I ordered a dress out of state and it required measurements, I went to Adel tailor based off of proximity and ratings and she was so kind. She didn't charge me for measurements and wouldn't accept a tip. I was grateful for her time and help. I will definitely come to her for my tailoring needs in the future. read more

I wanted a prom dress for my prom in May (it's March). I found the exact dress I liked and I was hoping that Adel could replicate it. I showed her a picture of it and asked her if she wanted me to send it to her, and she said no and started drawing out the dress instead. I came in for my first fitting and immediately noticed that it was fitted, while the picture I showed was of a flowy dress.I called her back the next day asking to come in and show her my concerns. I came in and explained to her how I liked the flowiness in the picture I showed, and that this dress was too fitted. She started telling me that it was impossible to fix. I said I was willing to buy more fabric or anything else if needed. Keep in mind that this was the one and only time I came in to evaluate the dress. I made sure to try my best not to offend her but I also believe that part of the process is listening to your client. Suddenly she started untied the dress, told me to go somewhere else because she's not changing what is already done, and said, "You're never gonna be happy with what I make," and , again, THIS WAS MY FIRST AMD ONLY FITTING!And I asked for one thing to be changed. As I was changing out of the dress, she told me I'm skin and bones and need a tighter-fitting dress. I came out of the room with the dress; she grabbed it from me, told me to leave, and gave me my money back for my fabric. I just think this was handled very unprofessionally. I cannot believe in this day of age that one would even think of body shaming someone. If you're going to be a seamstress, I believe it is a process and changes could happen... not a one and done deal. I should've just given her pictures of the dress regardless of whether or not she would take them to have a better understanding of what I wanted. I realize that one can never get EXACTLY what the picture displays but this was not even close to what I asked. When all is said and done, I was finally able to find my dream dress at the same cost. Adele is simply amazing!! I called her on a Saturday morning at 8am pleading for a same day dressing hemming and needed it by 3pm. I had a wedding to attend that evening (life got busy and I completely forgot to do it earlier). The dress was a 3 layer floor length gown. Not only was she able to turn it around in record time but she only charged me $45 (rush included) She is so sweet! I will definitely be going back to her for any of my alteration needs and will recommend her highly! Five days later (could have been four but I chose five) my pants were done. They were exactly like the picture and fit on me perfectly.
