Overview: I had two pairs of pants hemmed and a button put on a jacket. Everything looks good so far. Details: When I arrived, I was pleased to find a spacious parking lot in back with the back door clearly marked. I was impressed by the soft fabric feel to the interior, with nice rugs over a light wood floor. There were several changing rooms with curtains and benches/chairs. I was greeted as soon as I entered and after going through what needed to be done, I was told how much it would cost, which was written down for me. I thought the price seemed fair for what was being done - $40 total for the two pants and the button. read more

my experience with them was terrible. I needed a dress for a wedding. I brought in a bunch of items and told them I needed the dress by the day before the wedding and all the rest of the items I did not need. The day before the wedding, I went to pick up the dress and all of the items were done, except for the dress. In addition to that, they lost one of my casual dresses that I was supposed to wear for my daughter's graduation. The woman had to alter my dress for the wedding overnight and one other fancy dress. One of the dresses was way too long. Two of the items were not done well at all. I will never use them and would not recommend using the . She denies losing my dress. read more

While they are not inexpensive, they are really great at what they do. I often need my pants tapered to a an 8" bottom because I buy larger man's sizes. They al great. I'd trust them with anything. read more

My daughter and I brought in a prom dress for alterations. Took about a week and a half to shorten the many layers along the bottom and adjust the shoulder straps. The dress now looks lovely on my daughter (she tried it on there before and after - remember to bring in shoes and undergarments) The same 3 people were working each time we went in. We were charged as quoted ($100 - cash only, no credit cards accepted). Good quality work. I asked for quotes for alterations on a men's suit on my way out ($65 jacket, $16 pants) and she showed me a suit that she just finished altering. She said that most of her customers come from referrals. That's a pretty good sign. Plenty of parking in the back. Closed on Sundays. read more

I have been going to Sewing Masters Alterations for many years now. I've had formal evening dresses altered and pairs of pants hemmed by Ms. Young. A couple of weeks ago, I had a zipper of a winter jacket changed. Before I went to her, I called a couple of different places first to ask how much they would charge. Ms. Young is very pleasant, nice and straightforward. There is a private dressing room to get changed and also a small platform in order to get the right length and measurements for long garments. I have written a very good review on this place 6 months ago. Today, I went back to get a dress hemmed, it was a very simple hem job just to cut 2.5 inches shorter, the owner wanted to charge me $40 for it!! She also didn't want to tell me upfront with the price when she handed me the receipt with no price mentioned, then she told me the price was $40 until I asked. I was shocked and asked why is it so much for seemingly a simple job? She said because there were a base layer that needed to get cut. I negotiated a lower price and settled at $30. I walked away thinking that i should've just taken my dress elsewhere. I don't think I will go back again! I also thought the owner looked different from the one I met 6 months ago. Perhaps they have a change of ownership as well. read more

Similar to the most recent review... I have been using this alteration business for 3 years and send everyone I know there. Most recently I went to pick up a simple dress that she simply made maybe 2 inches shorter. When I called to ask how much cash to bring I thought she said $16. Which felt cheap but fine. I took $40 out of the bank. I showed up and she said $60. The dress cost $90, I couldn't believe $60 for alterations. I told her I had $40 and there's no way it was $60. She brought out two other people who told me they were giving me a deal only charging $60 and not to tell my friends how cheap they were charging me. I felt really blindsided and wish they would disclose their prices at the beginning of service instead of when you show up to pick it up. I won't be returning :/. Can't believe I sent my sister in law there for her wedding dress, my mother in law for her gowns, and all of my dresses over the past three years. read more

My child dropped off her prom dress at Sewing Masters to have it shortened by an inch. The owner failed to quote her a price initially. The next morning, my child returned to ask for the price for which the owner stated she didn't know yet, and told her to come back another day. A week later, the day before prom, my daughter went to pick up her dress, and the owner wanted $250 in cash! My daughter was shocked at the outrageous price. My husband and I thus went in to have a discussion with the owner. She stated she has to pay all her workers, that's the price. We started to call the police, so she immediately asked how much would we like to pay? My husband handed her $100 bill for which she continued to haggle, "How about $150? Prom is tomorrow." I said, "No, enough is enough! You are taking advantage of a child. We are going to report you to the Better Business Bureau." This is a total highway robbery. This business is a disgrace to our community. They need to be shutdown. read more

Mrs. Young altered my tuxedo flawlessly. What makes her awesome is that she knows what looks good and doesn't. Many other places do only what you want, which is nice, however, getting an expert opinion is valuable. Most people walking in to see a seamstress are there about a pair of khakis, get a suite or dress altered. I took in a pair of motorcycle over-pants. She didn't pause for a second or throw me out... I like that! Everything looked great when I picked them up and for the amount of work being done, I felt like it was too cheap. I may have to go back and pay her some more, seriously. I love service with a smile and I got that from all their employees. Just doesn't happen as often anymore. So next time I need "normal" clothes done, I'm headed back to Sewing Masters! read more

There are many things I miss about living in Glenview, now that I am in the pacific northwest, and Young at Sewing Masters is one of them! Young has been hemming pants, fixing buttons, etc for years a couple of years for our family. Young is super nice and friendly and she and her team of seamstresses do really nice work. They can handle tricky jobs as well as basic ones. Last summer I brought a maxi dress to her to remove the straps -the dress was beautiful but the straps looked kind of lame. The fabric was a really nice heavy rayon-type material - not the easiest fabric to make a strapless dress out of - but Young was able to remove the straps, re-sew the neckline and add a bit of stiffness to the fabric so it wasn't falling down. It was exactlly what I wanted. Also, one bonus of going to a stand-alone tailor is that you won't be standing at the cleaners getting pinned up in your clothes while customers waiting to pick up their drycleaning are watching you :) If you are looking for a good, friendly tailor, try Sewing Masters. read more

We shopped and shopped for a dress for my daughter's eighth grade dinner dance. Wanted young and fun. Found it on the clearance rack at JCPenney. It was on clearance and probably left over from Christmas (we bought in May). Anyway, it was cheaply made, had a zipper that was pulling away from the dress and was ill-fitting, but still super cute. We paid $23 for it. On a friend's referral, we took it to Sewing Masters. They rebuilt the dress by taking it in (evenly all around), shortened the straps, resewed the zipper, etc. We picked it up and it was perfect, pressed and ready to wear. For $35! A steal!! We will be back and will recommend Sewing Masters. read more

Wow... They are pin whispers and can do complex alterations or simple button replacements. I have taken many items to be altered and have been impressed with every alteration. They altered a cashmere coat I purchased which was a bit too large and made me look larger than I am. They took it in and you can't even tell it was ever changed but it fits perfectly now and looks slimming. The prices are very reasonable too. read more

We had our wedding outfits tailored here - a ladies' jumpsuit, a men's three-piece suit and dress shirt, and a dress. The jumpsuit, suit, and dress shirt alterations were pretty straightforward, and the work was done very well. We came in for one fitting and were able to pick up the garments several weeks later (we tried them on at the time of pick-up and everything was great). The non-traditional dress was a lot more complicated, with several features needing to be added, in addition to several alterations. The seamstress was so helpful and came up with excellent solutions to all of the "problem" areas of the dress, and the several fittings that the process required showed the attention to detail and desire to get everything right. In the end, the dress was absolutely perfect (and it had started out being simply okay). We are so happy we chose Sewing Masters for this work - we felt amazing on our wedding day because of the masterful work this business did. read more

Back in Aug '14, I bought a suit online but didn't realize the pants would have to be tailored. I had a week until heading to Toronto for a friends wedding so I started looking around for tailors in the area. Yelp, you are a lifesaver! I found Sewing Masters and headed right over. I parked in the lot behind the building and saw a door but it was unmarked and I didn't know if that was a back entrance or not so I walked back to the front. Once you enter the building and up a few stairs, you're met with two doors, Sewing Master is the one on the right. I opened the door and was greeted by a nice, older Korean woman asking me what she could help me with. I told her what I needed done and she asked me to go to the changing room and put on my suit so she could see how it fit. After changing, she led me to the mirrors and then took all my measurements. She showed me different lengths and made sure I was happy with the final decision (trim pants to my inseam, take in coat) before making it official. I told her I needed the suit in a few days at the latest and she said that wouldn't be a problem. Fast forward a couple days later, I get a call saying it is ready to be picked up. When I arrive, the same woman asks me to try on the suit again to make sure I was satisfied with the work. Everything fit like a glove and the stitching was very well done. When it came time to pay, it only came out to $25! I was shocked! She originally gave me an estimate of $35-$40. Sometimes speaking Korean has it advantages! If you need work done, I highly recommend taking your clothes here for a job done right. read more

My daughter needed a prom dress shortened. She didn't need any other alterations done. I took the dress there because my friend recommended this place to me. The place I bought it from would have only charged $60. Silly me... I thought that was a lot. I have three daughters and have had prom dresses done many times in the past and have never paid more than $60. So it is my fault that I didn't ask what Sewing Masters would charge. But imagine my surprise when she told me the charge would be $130. More than double of anyplace else. Very very disappointed. Her price for this is outrageous. I feel robbed. And here is the kicker...she will only take cash. I will never go here again nor would I recommend it. Unless you have tons of money and money is no issue for you. read more
