Venus II should stick to pizza and leave the functions to the venues that know what they are doing. I attended my fathers Wedding reception and everything was messed up from the get go. The entire bridal party was rushed to get in line to be introduced, the event "coordinator" did not let herself known and did not tell anyone where to stand after being introduced. Once the bridal party was introduced and the bride/groom had their first dance the bridal party noticed that it was not even 6:30pm (cocktail hour start time) The cheese/crackers display was almost gone. The staff were a little overzealous with clearing the tables when guests were not there to say they were finished with their food and drinks. After the cake cutting was done it took over an hour for cake slices to come out and even then I only saw about five slices on the bar. If the Venus II wants to succeed in running a function hall they should really re-evaluate the max guest count and staffing. The layout of the room really could not allow for the 100 guests that were there, you had to squeeze by chairs to get to the bar and bathroom. read more

They're pretty cheep, on the weekends they have a lot of college-aged kids. The DJ's play music with drops in every song which annoys me but apparently other people like it, otherwise it wouldn't be the norm for music right now. When I was drunk here, the waitress neglected to bring me back change, probably thinking I wouldn't notice because of my intoxication. I'm guessing she does this to everyone who's drunk. Watch out for your change here. I'd recommend Haddad's, the place next door- though they don't have DJs that I'm aware of and there's no dancing going on. read more

After a not too relaxing day at the beach complete with hours of traffic and a dog peeing on our stuff, we decided to try Venus II for dinner hoping to salvage the trip. The staff were great. The bartender was prompt and friendly, the hostess was on the ball. We waited about a half hour in order to sit out on the deck. Big mistake. Apparently they allow all the other people who are waiting for tables to just hang out on the deck. There was a whole family with 4 kids squealing and staring at us while we ate - the dad talking loudly on the cell phone and blowing smoke at us. Several groups of people seemed to be swarming around us willing us to eat and get out so they could have our table. Then as dusk came, it became apparent that Venus II is a biker hang out. Who knew? Several loud bikes pulled up and people filed in. Only one biker came out onto the patio to keep watch for other passing motorcyclists who may not know that Venus II is biker heaven. He would flag them down with a piercing whistle and wave and yell to them. Whoever Pickles is must be awesome because he was REALLY excited to see him. "PICKLES! PICKLES!!!! OVER HERE, PICKLES!!! COME ON IN!!!" The biker stopped to comment on my food on his way out - "That's a big sandwich! Are you going to eat all that?? Next time get the Captain's Platter." Went to enjoy the 4th of July with my friends. First time going to this place. I just moved to MA so I don't have my ID here yet. I brought my passport as my ID. The guy working the door look at the picture and me about 10 times then asked for another item with my name. Didn't have anything else on me because I brought cash, and my clutch, not my full purse. They wouldn't let me in. Mind you I get on planes with my passport. And I'm 26. Not like I just turned 21. Everyone else I was with are 25 and 26. It was a joke. read more

What? I can't give zero stars... that's just wrong. They don't get points just for being there... or maybe they do, I guess the decks are nice. I was here for a function, and quite plainly - they got it all wrong. They allowed guests to enter the hall one hour early - and started the bride and groom's 4 hour reception time clock at that time... had the photographers kept the bride and groom away from the place for the entire cocktail hour - and not attempted photos on the deck, they would have had to wait.. instead, as soon as they arrived, the bridal party was lined up - introduced, (though they missed some people) and then dinner was served! Mind you, it was still technically the cocktail hour... some guests unable to make it to the church service had not arrived yet, since they had planned to arrive during the cocktail hours. Then, staff made a habit of clearing tables entirely if all the guests happen to be up visiting, meaning half full beverages disappeared from tables. The barkeep made good on this when notified, but that simply should not happen, there were coats and bags at the table, we clearly had not left. After the cake was cut - people had to ask where it was because it didn't make it out of the kitchen until well over an hour later... and then, only was received when asked for - and it was served on plastic plates with plastic forks... sorry if we're keeping your dishwasher here a little late! The DJ felt so rushed to keep things moving along that the last song was played while the groom was in the restroom... The food was okay - though I don't understand how it was ready an hour ahead of schedule. And I will never understand why they allowed the arrival of guests to determine a change in the schedule without consultation with the bride/groom or anyone associated with her. Bad move, Venus II. You really should skip the functions, or get someone in who knows how to do it right. read more

I miss the original Venus with the warped floors and crooked booths. Even remember the pinball machine in the early days at the old Venus. Place has changed since the sons took it over. Do not bother with the pizza anymore but they still make an awesome Italian spukie! read more

My wife and I visited the Venus II last Friday evening and as one would expect it gets busier from 5pm on. The hostess brought us to a table and my wife prefers a booth so when she asked the hostess about the booth behind us that was empty the hostess said it was reserved for larger parties. We sat at the table with the uncomfortable chairs then within minutes the hostess had a nerve to walk by us with a party of two and sat them in the booth. It seems this may have been a case of favoritism since it appears she may have known them along with a waitress. My wife asked the hostess why she seated them in the booth and her reply was sorry its really busy. Ok, it was busy when we walked in before theses other people and its busy at the time she seated them and its going to get busier ! That's why we showed up a little earlier only to be slighted by this hostess. The waitress then brought us popcorn that was stale and when we asked about it she said it was last popped in the morning ? The nachos were ok but they lacked cheese. I don't tend to write negative views since I worked in restaurants when I was younger and its a difficult job but this situation is absurd. So maybe its time for management to review their policies and procedures with the staff in Marshfield. Thank You. I am writing in reference to the event space upstairs at the Venus II. I got married there this past New Year's Eve, and everything was perfect! Janie, the event organizer was amazing! My husband and I did not want for anything all night. The tables were set up nicely, and Janie helped me figure out my place settings when I was freaking out at the rehearsal dinner. I had a party of 150, which is the max for a buffet dinner. The food was excellent, (thanks Paul and kitchen staff)-baked stuffed chicken, garlic green beans, roasted red potatoes, stuffed shells, and salad. I was personally worried about guests eating too late because it was a buffet and the line can be a bit slow for that, but after talking to my guests, they were happy because the food was hot and fresh when they got it. As I mentioned, I did not want for anything. Janie made sure I had champagne in the back room as I waited for the ceremony. She also brought me in some appetizers when they came out and made sure I had at least a bite (a bride on an empty stomach can turn into a nightmare)! She helped with the timing of the ceremony, made sure everything ran smoothly, and every time I had an empty hand, she hand delivered me a fresh drink. Oh, and of course we had our food first, served up and delivered to our table. And let me just say that for a wedding of 150 people, our cost was under $10,000. I am certainly not complaining about that! We also had to do a lot of coordinating over the phone since I recently moved out of state (originally from Marshfield, though). And trust me, I made a lot of calls and had a lot of questions. All were addressed in a timely manner, and all details were worked out. FYI there is also an elevator for handicap access, which was great for our cousin in a wheelchair. read more

I have never written a restaurant review before because I know friends who own restaurants and have many friends who work in restaurants, and I know there are good days and not so good days. However, I was so dissatisfied with Venus tonight I had to write a review. I had been to Venus many times in years past and finally got so sick of the same menu I decided to try other places. Tonight I decided to give it another try. I ordered a dirty martini and as it came I said to myself, that's not the right drink, then I had to ask for olives. I took a few sips and felt like I did straight shots of vodka. When I sent it back I heard the bartender making fun of me because I said it was too strong. Nope, sorry, you're drink was just nasty! My food was cold. My dad just left my house thinking he might be sick on the way home. I'm writing this because this restaurant is in a beautiful area where it could flourish, however with the food and drinks I had tonight I know I'll never go again or recommend it to anyone! read more

Generally, the Venus II is not an actual " Biker Bar" . However, the restaraunt welcomes people of all groups wether it be a motorcycle riding group or a quilting group. Most of the dishes are "made to order" , therefore any patron can request regular french fries on a fish and chip dinner or even rice pilaf if one so chooses. I have dined at a million and one restaraunts. I have found that most establishments can accomodate most any request; it is up to the patron to make the request. After all, bar and wait staff are not mind readers. By the same virtue, a kitchen staff does not know if there was a problem with your meal unless you bring it to their attention. If you are unhappy with your meal, send it back! At the very least you will have something that better suits your pallet or the undesired meal taken off the bill. BUT, keep in mind that the waitstaff is simply the "messanger"..so dont shoot 'em! The state of Massachusetts has banned smoking in all public establishments, eg. Restaraunts. Anyone dining outside, by definition is in the "smoking section" and the "non-smoking" section is inside. There is little the host staff can do about people smoking on the deck, in the parking lot, or on the sidewalk. So, if you have a problem...tell someone If you want to amend a menu choice to better suit you...tell someone If you dislike how your meal was prepared....tell someone Dont gripe about it on a forum or internet page. Nearly ALL restaraunts will bend over backwards to please...they NEED you to be a repeat customer. BUT, dont use that as a weapon to be impossible, obnoxious, abusive, or an outright a-hole...everyone is human and everyone has a breaking point. read more

Went here for a late lunch/early dinner this past weekend...the place itself is sort of dingy, but the location is great - it's right off the beach, and there is outdoor seating. We sat indoors because there are tvs in the booths and we have a toddler who needed entertaining. He got a burger, and devoured the whole thing, so it must have been good. They let us sub his fries for veggies, which I always appreciate. We got an underwhelming salad, which was served with to-go containers of dressing, but the pizza made up for what the salad lacked. We got the buffalo chicken pizza and it was awesome. This place is clearly known for their pizza, judging by the amount of takeout pizza boxes that were being picked up while we were there, and rightfully so. I wouldn't go back for a salad, but the pizza was worth a revisit! read more

VERY VERY disappointing service experience! We sat for 15 minutes before we were approached. Then waited another 10 for our drinks. In between this time, we approached the hostess stand & asked for a different server as ours was clearly overwhelmed! THAT never happened! We finally placed our very simple order, it was served 10 minutes AFTER the table that sat 20+ minutes after us got their food. The food was actually decent...with the exception of the Chicken Caesar Salad which clearly sat under the heat lamp for way too long! Server told us she'd take that off our bill. Before we got our check, we gave her our credit card. When she gave us the credit card receipt to sign, we asked her to see an itemized bill. she then told us she never took the salad off! WHAT? So then she had to VOID our check & re-ring everything in again! there's got to be a better way! Only reason I am not scoring Venus 2 a 1 is because the food wasn't that bad AND there was a young bus girl who busted her butt & definitely did what she could to try to make it better! read more

I have always loved the food at the venus my whole life. I recently went with a party of 9 (my family) after my sisters confirmation. I ordered chicken broccoli and ziti, and it was the BEST chicken broccoli and ziti I have ever had. I have recommended it to several people already. Blows Mama Mias out of the park! Went in for a couple of draft beers. No food, few games of keno. I am a pretty good tipper but I just received my credit card bill for $48.44. Should have asked for a Coors Light Bottle. I had to stop coming here with my wife 6 years ago because of the food, now never again. BTW, I am a 3 minute drive away. Will never go back. read more

I live right near here and I go to the Venus every Friday night. We are regulars. We know all the staff there and they are very nice. We have our own table reserved for us when we call in. A little tip: if you want a good seat, like outside or something, CALL AHEAD!! It will make your life so much easier. Trust me. I love the Venus. They have great food at great prices! read more

Last weekend was my first visit to Venus after hearing rave reviews about their pizza. Myself, boyfriend and two friends waited 40min for a table outside which was fine it was a Saturday night. While waiting we went to the bar to have a few drinks. I don't know why this place had great reviews ...it was dark, dingy looking, and the AC didn't seem to keep up with the heat and humidity on this particular day. Two bar tenders behind the bar, who seemed irritated, annoyed, and really shouldn't be working with people. When asked what to order by one of the disgruntled looking bar tenders, taking legit a few seconds to decide, I got a "ay or nay"? As in hurry up and decide whether I wanted a drink or not... now this girl looked young. Being talked down to or disrespectful is not a way to get a good tip. The bar was not by any means packed, and neither of them seemed to want to keep everyone's glasses full. Their attitude sucked...nothing about their service was inviting to make me want to go back. Their Pizza was mediocre at best..but our waitress was very nice and accommodating unlike the bar tenders ..I don't think I'll be returning here again. read more

Visited the bar last Saturday with husband for a couple of drinks and take out meals. Atmosphere was upbeat and bustling. Staff was very attentive and equally pleasant. Beer on tap was ice cold and refills were prompt. There were 3 ladies handling the entire bar for food and drink and they were excellent! Would visit again based on their customer service. Unfortunately the take out meals left us not so thrilled. Seafood is not a great option here. Fried scallops plate was greasy and not best quality. Fishermans platter was of same quality. Shrimp raviolis were lacking in shrimp and buried in heavy cream. Fajitas were very good and recommended. Small cheese pizza appeared to have meat on it. Not totally a bad pizza but not great for vegetarian. I will give menu another visit as I enjoyed the workers and the establishment. Thanks for a pretty good experience. I would recommend trying this spot as it has a lovely beachside location and excellent staff. read more
