My fiancé and I stopped here on a whim on a bike ride to Minnehaha Falls. We were going to grab a snack at Sea Salt but we should have guessed that the line would be too long. Luckily for us we looked at the map for the best way to get home and slotted Venn Brewing (my maps knows me so well). Conveniently located off the bike trail and next to a public transit station, Venn Brewing is off the beaten path but easy to get to. They have a decent size tap room with a good outdoor seating area that they look like they're expanding. As any good brewery in the Twin Cities should be, they're dog-friendly. For food they serve a few small snacks like pretzels but also have food trucks at night for your full meal needs. Non-alcoholic beverages, including kombucha, are available for your NA drink needs. They're not a stranger to the events scene, with a whole month of Batman movies planned for August and have a shelf of games for brewery activities. Gender neutral and changing table friendly bathrooms, because it's 2019 and this should be a norm. Service is spectacular. Friendly bartenders that really make an effort to make your time special. Nothing but good things to say about that. But let's get to what you're really here for: the beer. My fiancé and I both built two small flights of four but you can pick as many as you want if you want to go the flight route. Here's what I went with. * Strawberry Cucumber Gose - I almost got more of a watermelon flavor but it was a super refreshing, tart brew, great for enjoying on a hot summer day with tacos. * Don Oishi Yuzu Rice Lager - I knew I had to get this because it was so unlike many other beers you can get in Minneapolis. I know Urban Growler did one at one point but you don't see it too commonly. Dry and crisp and pairs well with a lot - especially with the ramen food truck that was outside! The flavor is very subtle but I'm also not super sure what to expect with a rice lager. * Solarising - I'm a big fan of coffee beers so I was very excited to try this golden ale with coffee, chocolate and vanilla. It's a lot smoother than Modist's First Call (sometimes that one can taste like coffee grounds v. a coffee beer to me) but also quite a bit sweeter. This would make a great dessert beer but I'm not sure that I could do a full pint. * Vanilla Milk Stout - This toasty vanilla milk stout also have semi-sweet chocolate notes so it's basically like drinking an alcoholic chocolate milk - minus the stirring or the dairy. It's a lot like the Leinenkugel's Snow Drift Vanilla Porter. I'm sure I'd enjoy a full pint of this later in the year. My fiancé ordered the Berlinner Weisse, Venn Pils, Smoked Red Ale and Rye Pale Ale. I focused on my flight so I can't speak much to his but in his words, "they were fine, nothing special." I would somewhat agree with that statement. I would come back if we were looking to make a stop on a bike ride or if there was a movie they were playing we wanted to watch but the beers weren't super impressive; good enough to check out but not impressive enough to come back for a beer I was craving. They do have a very expansive list that would be great to bring friends or family that like trying new beers or for just a good laid back environment. read more

Large, bright tap room with lots of room and a wonderful outdoor patio space! I've loved every beer I've tried there. We've gone several times for Trivia on Sunday, and it's always very busy. If you're planning to participate, make sure you come early! The line for beer goes really fast and the staff are very quick to clear empty glasses. The parade of pups is also pretty great! I have been passing this place on the Metro for a couple years now, wondering how good it is. We finally made some time to try it last night, and we were super impressed with their beer selection, their beer taste, and the brewery as a whole. We decided to try a sampler, which is available in almost any quantity (as in, you don't have to choose a minimum or maximum number of beers to try). They have a lot of summer beers on tap right now, which means mostly lighter beers and sours (although they had one IPA, one pale, and two dark beers). I was really impressed with their Key Lime Gose: it's the perfect companion for sitting out on their patio on a nice summer evening. Their sours were also quite tasty. They have a large inside as well as a smaller outside (get there early on nice days/nights if you want to sit on the patio, it does fill up). You order at a counter, and while there was a line, it went fast. They don't really have any food (besides a couple bar snacks), but there was a food truck there, and you can BYO almost anything (lots of people had Pizza Luce, they must deliver here regularly). They have a HUGE board game selection. One of the best features of this place is its location. Not only is it right next to the Blue Line Metro station, but there is a giant bus hub right next door as well, with at least a half dozen bus routes stopping there. So, you will likely be able to take public transit here and away and not worry about driving. It's also close to a few bike trails. read more

Cool space, only minus is parking can be tough in the lot. Easy light rail access. They are expending their 16oz cans in distribution, so watch for that too. I came here with my sister after a long bike ride and we got their cucumber watermelon gose, and mango sour. Especially in the summer, they have a bunch of really unique goses, sours, and seltzers which keeps me coming back to try them! This is probably one of the most boring taprooms I have been to - everything seemed so sterile and boring. Yet the place was FULL of dogs so obviously not sterile at all :/ Look, I have nothing against dogs in most cases, but I do not want or need them in an INDOOR establishment. I am obviously in the minority on this (at least it seems based on all the dogs) but I will still complain. It causes places to smell and taprooms are often loud enough without a bunch of dogs barking. To make things worse, apparently they were throwing a doggy birthday party, which, ok fine I get it you guys like dogs, but it also meant they were taking up a bunch of tables that money spending, beer drinking HUMANS (me) could have been sitting at. I will say that I did have a couple tasty beers - I think the breakfast stout and the Dark Mexican Lager (always appreciate a Mexican brew!) Parking is atrocious. First visit here after riding past it on the train everyday. Great spot for dogs! We did have to look around for water, but I don't expect every place to have a bowl set up. It's just nice to find a place, period, that let's dogs indoors. In these cold bitter weeks of winter the pooches get cabin fever just as much as we do. We tried the breakfast, triple, and the oatmeal stout. All very good. The crowd was also really nice, so many dog lovers! It's nice to go out and chat with other patrons just to chat. Absolutely adore this Brewery so far. My date and I stopped by to check it out after enduring a super long line at Sea Salt down the road. It was the end of the evening so we only had 1 brew...but tried a good handful before deciding on our selection. We opted to sit right up front at the bar. The cute, attentive (seemed to be all female that night?) staff was on top of getting us served and checking on us. She was more than patient with us on letting us try a handful of brews and making a few suggestions. I ended up with the double tart Cherry sour. IT WAS PHENOMENAL!! THE BEST IVE HAD YET! Sours have been a hit or miss with me so far- more miss then hit. This one was perfect for my selective taste buds. Not too sweet, pleasantly tart, and the viscosity of it was dreamy!! I was kicking myself the next day for not buying a growler of it. Dang my mouth is watering right now just writing about it! To boot- it was loaded with dogs inside the brewery!! Venn has a nice facility, great beer, good variety, and an awesome food truck parked out front. What more could you want! There is plenty of seating inside and outside on the patio. Inside features a large screen TV which they screen various sports games. They had a large variety of beer including saison, ipa, and stouts. Prices are good and service is friendly and fast. The food truck they had outside that day was a pizza truck and it was perfect with the beer. I'm thinking they have pizza often because there was a designated spot for pizza boxes in the facility. There's a small parking lot and street parking. Venn Brewing is even locates next to a nice walking/biking. This is definitely a brewery I would recommend to other and I'll probably find myself back here again soon. read more

Their beers are delicious (shout out Cosmosis: Triple Berry and Sexxxy Delicious Imperial Stout with chocolate and raspberries), the space is very dog friendly, great for doggy socialization, and they host some of the best food trucks around. I researched on their website and saw they had Kolsch. I was in Minneapolis with my dog and saw dogs are allowed, yes! I sampled Loral Pils and Kolsch. Ordered a Kolsch and the glass is tall and huge for $6.00. The place is very clean and sterile. There is a fox mural but no real ambiance but watching light rail trains. Parking was scarce so I parked a block away in a residential area. When I returned my glass, I sampled Venn Fest and they filled my growler with Kolsch. Seriously. Square. Truth be told my main squeeze really deserved a frosty reward for doing his partner due diligence today. Fortunately for me their beers are somehow gluten free. They even said the beer doesn't bother with celiac so there ya have it. My Diana Summer Shandy was deliciously light and fruity! A perfect refreshment. The boo had the popular option house beer...he can't remember what it was called. Don't blame him he was paper wrapping cut glass dishes for 6 hours. He earned that cold delicious herbally brew. I loved seeing dogs indoors and also enjoyed the peppy music and families hanging out. It was an up beat scene...opposite of my entire day in a 2nd floor garage throwing away every piece of art I created from my formative years. Parking is difficult. They have maybe six reserved parking spots and three of them are taken up by a taco truck. Street parking is a hike. If you're not coming on the light rail, don't bother. Indoor space is nothing special, patio is unprotected. I heard the beers were just okay, but couldn't tell you as they didn't accept my out-of-state ID that every other tap room in Minneapolis has accepted. I'm in my 30s and look it. Before we get to the beer, let's talk about the other things first. There is a big parking lot outside and it is near the light rail, so you have plenty of options for getting here. There is "reserved" parking, but it seems like that is more to keep the neighbors happy more than anything (when my husband told them he parked in a reserved spot, they just gave him a high five). The bartenders were nice and had a good sense of humor. It is clear they are still getting their feet under them, but they are good sports about it. They will work it out. Good system for doing a flight too. You write down what beers you want and they will put them in the order you wrote them down. So much better than trying to guess which one you have or being limited to a certain preset flight. Also you can choose up to 8 beers! The space is big and dog friendly! You can sit at the bar, tables, or on the patio. It feels big while still maintaining a good sense of community. Now for the beer. I judge a brewery on its ability to do one of two things. Either they brew the classic beers but do it amazingly well, or they swing for the fences and go for bold choices. Venn is a swing for the fences brewery. They make some beer with interesting combos and flavors. Not all of them were a hit with our table, but I would say 90% of them were a big hit. Looking over their beer list (and online you can see what they have done in the past) it is clear that they are always changing and pushing themselves. My personal favorites were the apricot wheat and the blueberry vanilla stout. The apricot wheat tasted like fresh fruit and was very refreshing on a hot day. The stout would be perfect on a nice cold winter evening, so I hope it sticks around. I was impressed by how they were able to develop flavors in their beer without compromising the style of the beer or overpowering another flavor. I am a big fan of this place. 20/100 read more

Welcome to the neighborhood, Venn! Norwegian for friend, Venn is a fitting name for this watering hole. A huge bar, wooden picnic tables on the patio, a pile of board games, and tons of inside seating options- Venn is welcoming and warm. A Thursday night out there with my husband was buzzing with life- tons of people, a bit of a line at the bar, and a raucous din of noise. We loved the atmosphere and even more so loved the beer! We tried a few, but our favorite was the grapefruit IPA. We liked it so much that we came back for a growler that same week to share with our neighbors! I've been back two more times since then. There's usually a food truck parked in the 46th street station lot and they welcome outside food brought in. I was surprised to see the entire beer lineup changed my third visit. Gah! What to drink without the grapefruit IPA as an option? I tried a few more beers and found another favorite. Get your butt to the most annoying intersection in all of Minnesota, because Venn is brewing up some greatness in south Minneap. They usually have at least six different varieties tapped, and I really love the space. It looks like it'll have a patio feel in the summer (since it just opened in December, we haven't had a chance to test that yet.) As with most breweries, they usually have a food truck outside on busier nights, and trivia mafia at 6 on Sundays. Only reason I haven't put 5 stars is the service has been lacking a bit the 5-6 times I've been there. Nothing that'd ever keep me away though. The beer is just so good. read more

I was on a bike ride with a few people and we were running behind. We made just at last call and they let us in and we're very gracious as we straggled in from a long ride. The bar staff, especially Sarah went out of their way to make sure we didn't feel like we were an imposition. They even suggested we bring the bikes within the fenced off beer garden for a bit more security. All that said, the beer was great, I had the American Brown Ale and I plan to go back and sample more of their beers. I would highly recommend this place for their beer and service. read more

Brand new shiny brewery in the hood. Actually to be more precise it's the only brewery in the current area. Which is an amazing thing for the folks living in the area, as it gives them a new option aside from the local restaurants in the area. Even luckier are the folks living in the building above the taproom, as they have some craft brews literally right downstairs. I hope to see more breweries open up within the area as it will drive more people to the area. The taproom is right off the light rail, so it makes it easier to grab a few pints and then head on home via the rail. Pretty cool logo and back story behind the name. Will eventually have to pick up some merchandise from them, which can be found on their merch wall to the right of the bar. They have a surprisingly expansive beer list for a new brewery, roughly 18 or so if I recall. I tried a few samples and end up going with a sour (raspberry to be exact). They do have quite the variety of choices in beer styles but the flavor profiles could use some tweaking. The beers are decent but not amazing. I'm hoping with time this changes. I can't wait to see what these guys come out with, plenty of potential. I'll definitely be back. Parking spots are limited in the lot, due to it being majority for the light rail customers. The brewery spots are marked out, so if you are lucky you might snag a spot. They are dog friendly, so don't leave your furry pal at home all alone. The thing I like most about Venn is its proximity to the light rail. Easy spot to meet friends and hop on the train. I've only taken an Uber here but parking looks like a challenge. Just look for the signs that are labeled Venn Brewing and you should be fine. I've enjoyed most of the beers I've had from here, some great sours and IPA's. Their Cosmosis sour series is fantastic! Their other styles are just ok in my opinion which is why I can't put it in the top tier of breweries in the Twin Cities. Certainly a solid option if you are in the neighborhood. read more

It was my first time at this Brewery and was excited to see a new sour I haven't had before, a Watermelon Sour! Standard brewery with dogs allowed in the space and open seating ranging from high tops, low tops, and booths. Great mix. They usually have food trucks outside and perk of it being right on the light rail line it's easy for anyone to get there. If you are driving, just have to park a block away if the lot is filled but doesn't matter with being right off Hiawatha. They also have board games. Check it out. read more

I rather enjoy the fact that this place is at a convenient location, close to home, and close to light-rail. However, like many locations they can come with consequence - the area has its share of transients. The atmosphere is well open and diverse, not seemingly over crowded. Your groups here and there playing some board games while enjoying a flight of crafty brews, the old town drunk stirring alone muttering words to himself, but polite and respectful of others. Let's not forget the friendly servers - they are helpful should you be like me, unable to make up your mind. Why not try a flight? They do as many as you'd like. Prices are very fair as well. No food is served, and rightfully so as people bring their dogs in, which I really enjoy because I am a dog lover. There may or may not be a food truck outside - so regardless of vendor you can bring it inside. Overall, I enjoy coming here and will continue from time to time. read more
