They definitely left a lot to be desired. I have to admit that my expectations were high when entering the restaurant, but they somehow managed to drastically underdeliver. Why? You may ask. Well, they recently changed their menu. To start off, the salsas for complimentary tortilla chips were flavorless. I hate to say it, but one of the salsas tasted like water. To make things better, I moved the salsas and chips from the center of the slightly large (for two people) wooden table to comfortably reach the food. Then the waitress decides to come to the table and place them back to the center. In their defense, the restaurant was completely empty, and they probably had nothing better to do. I also felt rushed to order as they were just hawking over the table.
Anyways, I also ordered a "Tejuino", a traditional alcohol beverage to the region. However, they managed to over complicate the drink since it tasted nothing like a true Tejuino. They use to serve a decent Tejuino, but they decided to change that as well.
Up next, I ordered the refried beans with pork belly and "panela" cheese. It was more like a soup and probably anyone can make something better at home.
For the main dishes, "carne en su jugo" and "queso fundido con picaña" were ordered. If you want to taste authentic and flavorful "carne en su jugo", go to a restaurant named Karne Garibaldi were you can have and amazing "carne en su juego". Not only that, you can also order refried beans and "queso fundido" at Garibaldi's which are significantly better. At Veneno, the "picaña" was overcooked as if I was eating beef jerky.
Overall, I believe they are over complicating their dishes and sadly taking away the greatness of these Mexican dishes. read more
