Slightly underwhelmed by this place. I went with their Say What combo which includes two tacos, a side and drink. For tacos, I got Quesa Birria, the meat was a little dry, and their WTF (weekly taco feature) the Korean Fried Chicken, overall this taco tasted better. The fried chicken flavor and the slaw were really good but the pieces were large and it was hard to eat. As a side I got the red curry coconut queso, I really wanted to love this because I love coconut curry, but I didn't really feel the curry, it was just spicy queso. And the margarita just tasted like premixed juice concentrate. The service was quick, it seems like the food is made to order, you can see the kitchen but it didn't come out that fresh hot temperature. It's right in the heart of North Hills so I'll probably give it one more shot. read more

They just opened a couple of weeks ago. I bought all three of the vegetarian tacos. Unfortunately, the flavors don't come together nicely like they did in Dallas, TX. They were out of the corn elote side. The employee alleged that there's a shortage of corn. I had the same experience at the Charlotte NC location. The flavors didn't come together nicely like they did in Dallas, TX. One of their credit card tap machines is already not working. Surprising considering that they just opened at this location. Instead of moving to the other cash register, the lady wanted my credit card number to enter. Umm, no! I'm NOT going to give you my credit card. Velvet Taco taco never disappoints. I love the creative tacos and have tried a variety of them. Each visit has been consistently delicious...my absolute favorite is the grilled salmon taco, which is the one I keep coming back for. The staff is friendly and the restaurant is always clean. There is an outdoor area to enjoy on nice days where you can sit and people watch near the water fountain. read more

Nice establishment with great tacos! My family came in for dinner and we had a good time. Staff were friendly, there isn't much seating considering how packed it was (they just opened recently) but we came early enough to get a table. The tacos were all great- plenty of options on the menu, my favorite was the quesabirria. The only thing we did not love were the chips- they were stale and kinda flavorless. The frozen marg was yummy, and so were the guac and queso. Overall, a pretty good taco place that isn't too expensive. We enjoyed our time and will be back to try more. read more

Enjoyed my recent visit at Velvet Taco! It's a convenient and busy location. It's casual which I enjoy as well. They have a rotating monthly taco. And they provide a free queso when you sign up for their wards program. I ordered the veggie rice bowl. It was loaded with season veggies and queso. It's light and very filling. I also had the standard queso, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The chimichurri takes it up a notch! I look forward to checking them out again soon to try their tacos. They are larger than most places too. All in all, def worth trying. read more

Velvet Taco has creative and tasty tacos. I had the rotisserie chicken and the buffalo chicken in a combo with salsa as my side. The salsa was served warm which was new for me! I liked the rotisserie one as it was very flavorful. My husband did not enjoy his as much. He hates onions so asked for his shrimp one without corn pico. I guess they thought he just didn't like corn because they piled regular pico in it in a massive pile. His queso side was delightful and I brought it home to go to enjoy later. They have both plentiful inside and outside seating and the atmosphere was pleasant. When your order is ready they call your name and say "it's taco time"..LOL! read more

Definitely not what I expected. I'd seen some content creators post about the new Taco spot in North Hills so I decided to go in for a late lunch on a Monday. I walked in and though there were several team members standing at the front, behind the counter and what appeared to be a manager sitting down beside the door, no one looked up to greet me. Not a huge deal, but definitely a note of concern. I'd ordered online, which made it a lot easier and my food was ready as soon as I got inside. I ordered the WTF Combo with the Chimichurri steak taco and the Chicken Tikka taco. The steak taco was pretty good. I can tell the meat was seasoned really nicely and I loved the toppings. I wouldn't get the Chicken Tikka taco ever again. The flavor was overwhelming and the meat might've been a little undercooked. Something was going on with the texture but I couldn't put my finger on it. The best thing on my plate was the queso and chips. I would definitely go back for that (especially because I think I have a free reward to use in 30 days) along with the guac. The guacamole looked solid and I should've ordered a side of it. Overall, I'd give the food a 6/10 and that's mainly based on the queso and chips. I doubt I'd go back aside from getting some more of the queso and chips. read more

I tried Velvet Taco at North Hills and ordered the lunch special with the rotisserie chicken taco, Mexicali shrimp taco, and a side of queso. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming across the board. The tortillas were a major issue. They tasted baked or overcooked, giving them a stiff, crispy, almost cardboard-like texture--more like an old tortilla than something freshly made. It immediately took away from the tacos. The rotisserie chicken was especially disappointing. It was extremely watery; when I bit into the taco, a large amount of liquid poured out, making it messy and unpleasant to eat and leaving the chicken itself lacking in texture and flavor. The Mexicali shrimp taco was the highlight, but only slightly. The shrimp itself had decent flavor, but it was held back by a very tough flour tortilla that was difficult to chew and again felt far from fresh. Overall, this is a very mediocre taco spot with very inflated prices at $6 a taco. In an area with strong competition, Velvet Taco will have a tough time standing out--or surviving--unless there's a noticeable improvement. read more

Came for the spicy chicken tikka taco (priorities) and maybe a mexicali. Ended up getting the combo -- the only logical choice. The flavors were bold, spicy, and perfectly messy in the best way. Everything tasted fresh and packed with flavor. If this is the standard, this spot is going to be on my regular Raleigh rotation. read more

I am genuinely so impressed with these delicious tacos and guacamole! I first walked in and was greeted by one of the employees telling me the concept about Velvet Taco. Anything you eat can be creatively put into a taco. So fun! The tacos were the perfect size and flavored so nicely. I ate outside on the patio and it was the perfect vibes.
