Staff greeted us promptly and were super helpful informing us about the $5 build your own burrito special for the day. Holy frijoles Batman! We indulged in chips with queso and salsa, all delicious per usual. The grilled chicken burrito was awesome too, and I had to take half home because its a lot of food to chow down in one sitting. The staff who assisted me was pleasant. The tacos are reasonable priced and flavorful but the meat was cold. I tried the beef and chicken. Not much to write home about here. Perhaps I should return right at the opening time for fresh food. Rice and beans were the same as the tacos. read more

The tacos are delicious. It also came with free chips and they had a salsa bar. The birria tacos were packed with flavor and ingredients. They had a good amount of birria in them. The service was quick here. We were one of the only ones in the restaurant when we ate, but they got the tacos out within 5-10 minutes. There were booths and high tops to sit at, so a great amount of seating throughout the restaurant. You place your order at a counter and it is brought out to you. Salsa is self-serve, so you can get as much or as little as you want. DO NOT EAT HERE!! I sent my employees here for their lunch break and it has to be by far one of the worse if not the worse Mexican restaurant we have ever been too. The peoples attitudes, and Service was just as disgusting as the food, and they call themselves authentic. I don't even have to say much look and read the other reviews. I hadn't been to Chubbys in a couple years. Man have they changed. Went in expecting the football size burrito per usual. Not even close. Super small with a higher price. Which the price I don't mind paying. Just keep up with what you have been know for. The taste was still there, and the sauces were still great as well. Disappointing experience. We sat at the bar for about 20 minutes without being acknowledged. When we finally went to the counter to speak to anyone, we were told someone would be with us shortly because they were working on a large party. The "large party" was eight people, on a Friday at 1:30pm. No one else was in the restaurant. After waiting another 10 minutes with no one coming by, we decided to leave and went elsewhere for lunch. The tacos and service are outstanding. If you're vegetarian you've got to try the black bean and sweet potato taco, so good! We live out of town and drive through Raleigh on our way to visit family at least monthly. It's a go-to, halfway stop for us, better than fast food but just as fast or faster on a Friday night. The Tacos here were very solid. We enjoyed what we ate, but we also feel like we've had better tacos at other places around the city. They were very tasty, but the meats in them were not bursting with flavor like they are at some places. We felt the same way about our queso dip as well. The best thing about this place was that the employees were very helpful and kind to us. The interior decor, was nothing that drew us in. It was somewhat darkly lit and the advertisements printed on the table made it feel cheap. I walked in and there's a section to walk over to for takeout orders. I was directed by one of the patrons to go down to the other end that the gal was there. My order had made its way to them but she couldn't figure out how to input the order into their computer system to start making my food. Waiting 5 to 10 minutes for my burrito and two different taco items to be prepared I had a false expectation that my food would be hot. I got out to the car and decided to eat immediately. I got a spicy carne asada and a pork taco and the meat was dry and overcooked and lukewarm. I should have known that when I opened the container and the tacos had spelled all over the place to lower my expectations about the food taste and quality The inside of the restaurant is and what would be expected from a popular taco place in an extremely busy shopping center. They are a chain and I'm assuming that when they earned best tacos in RDU it was either not at this particular location or the reviewers announced their arrival so that the food could be specially prepared for them. I'm not trying to say that it's easy making good tacos or burrito, but serving lukewarm food and charging $27 for an oversized order so I knew I wouldn't leave hungry, I really expected more. Now I gave two stars because enough people of apparently enjoyed this place that maybe I just came at a bad time at 2:15 in the afternoon on a Thursday. Maybe I need to give them another shot. But there's a hell of a lot of competition out there and I would really have to feel inclined to roll the dice a second time on something that failed epic the first time around. Those of you who follow me on here are aware that I rarely slam a restaurant and that I've been around and trying many different types of cuisine. For me to be so taken back by this meal it should speak to how disappointing it was. Located off I-440 and Lake Boone Trail. I posted the current menu. They give you a free basket of tortilla chips with some Mexican seasoning on them. They do have a good selection of salsa and pico de gallo, see photos. The spicy chicken tinga burrito and chicken quesadilla were excellent. The quesadilla was as expected and the burrito was large. The people next to us had an order of nachos which was gigantic. I did not want to take a picture of it but the plate was large. They also have a bar with tvs. So might be a good option to watch some sports on the weekend. Recommend the burritos. read more

Consistency is key! I've visited several times and ordered to go several times. The biggest concern is the consistency. On average the food is good. Today, the Baja fish taco was underwhelming. The fish was not fresh and portion was under 2oz. The drinks were delicious. Service was great. The ambiance is confusing. Really cool spot. When ordering a meal you get chips and salsa and they have an awesome salsa bar with a lot of different varieties you can choose from depending on preference. The food was on point. I ordered the enchilada meal (admittedly it was so good I went two days in a row), and it was excellent. The dive bar atmosphere make the overall experience really cool. Chubby's has upgraded since the pandemic, it's expanded into a larger space. It features a much larger outdoor eating area as well. The food is how I remember but the portion sizes are smaller and the prices are a little higher. It is as authentic as you will find outside of a food truck. It's still a solid place for a fast lunch. The one star reduction is for the salsa bar. While still boasting a large selection of delicious salsas, they are now kept in squeeze bottles. This was to improve hygiene during Covid...BUT....they likely haven't been wiped down in forever. Every single bottle I touched was absolutely coated in sticky old salsa. It was gross but add to that the food served is predominately hand-held...just yuck. Sad because their salsas are rockin. read more
