I was looking for authentic Mexican food and found this restaurant with very good reviews so I decided to come here for a late lunch. My first impression was very good. The restaurant seemed spacious and nicely decorated. To place an order the customer has to order at the counter but the food is brought to the table. The menu has a variety of items. There is an English and a Spanish menu available and all the dishes are explained in the menu. The food tasted really good. I had the 'Carne Asada' and my husband had tacos. The portion size was good and the price was a good value. My husband said that his tacos were very good. The tacos here a served in a "naked" way so that you can top them up with your own selection of toppings from the salad bar. The salad bar is exceptionally good and has a lot of items to pick from! I loved it! I also really liked the salsa that came with the chips. We did not get the chips right away as in most TexMec restaurants, we had to ask for them but then they were quickly delivered. The only reason why this restaurant is not getting the full 5 stars is because I hope that the service improves a bit. Everything was fine but I wish to feel a little bit more welcoming, a little bit of more excitement and attention. But I will definitely return for some food! read more

This place is overhyped. I question everyone on here saying it's the best authentic Mexican food they've had in the area. Just no, I cannot. The tortillas were cold and you can tell they weren't even placed on the grill long enough and they were hard and chewy like rubber. I had Al pastor tacos, and the meat flavor was slightly okay, but add the chewy rubber tortilla and well it just wasn't what I would call a pleasant Taco Tuesday experience. I first had don like few weeks ago while at work since I worked right beside international I went there's to place an order the food was hot and delicious!! Needs more room to wait to pickup food- it is pretty small and the service was so so from the cashier.. the ambiance was good but needed some improvement. I visited them yesterday after craving food from there all day and was disappointed by the service and the prices the price changed three times after I said it was to go she wasn't pleased when I told her it was Togo though it was only Asada fries and nacho supremes, I still remained calm and was told it was gonna take 10-15 minutes so went to the car because there's no room to wait for my food. Came back in 10 minutes later food was there! So that was good then I went to my car to start eating and was greeted by freezer burnt fries Chewy oily mystery meat it didn't taste like chorizo or beef !! The nachos were not how I had them last time the chips were stale the portions were pitiful and the lettuce was sour I was highly disappointed because it was a waste of 30$ maybe it was a bad day for them or they were tired but it was down right pitiful!!! I want to give them a better review and will probably try them again. 3 stars for the very uneven experience. I got a carne asada gordita, a lengua taco, and chips and salsa. The chips and salsa wasn't great. It was one handful of chips and some pretty tasteless salsa that was probably just tomato sauce with chili powder in it. I'm all for trying different styles of salsa and this was different, just not in a good way. My carne asada gordita was dope. Really really good. My lengua taco had tepid meat and I remarked to my dining partner, "this is going to make me sick" and it 100% did. It's not a thing people order frequently, so I'm sure it's made it batches and kept in fridge. This is located dead smack in the middle of an international plaza-type shopping center. That simply adds to its appeal in my case. You walk to the counter and order and they bring the food to your table. It definitely helps if you, or someone you're with, speaks Spanish. I got the Burrito Regulare and it was delicious. The taco orders were small but the food was very good. The service is prompt and everyone is friendly. I'd definitely come back for a quick lunch, but this isn't a dinner kind of spot in my opinion. What a hidden gem!! Located right at the top of my neighborhood, Don Beto's was a discovery by my neighbor and I recently went to check it out. Half taxes, half tacos this place has it all. It is pure no frills Mexican food. Their menu is almost completely in Spanish but the owner/workers are so friendly they will explain to you what is in each dish, give you recommendations, and help you garnish your meal if you are extra nice! I had the Beto Quesadilla which has Mexican sausage, chicken and grilled onions. It came with Spanish rice that was perfectly cooked. I added some sauces and salsas to make it perfect. All that for $6!! I added some Horchata (if you haven't had it, get it!) to round out my perfect dinner. My other friends had tacos, Al Pastor (yum!), goat bbq (I was told it was absolutely delish!), and fish tacos. We also had very fresh tasty quac that was a steal at $3 or less. I would say this is my favorite taqueria in Raleigh, but that's an understatement, it's actually my favorite restaurant in Raleigh, period. The staff are super friendly and always provide excellent recommendations for new things to try. I have yet to try a single thing here I didn't love love love. Outstanding Chilaquiles, Cemitas, Tacos, and Salsa (and I'm sure all of the other things I haven't tried yet too).
