My first visit for dinner so I choose a "make your own combo" with a chicken burrito and a beef chimichanga. The combo came with refried beans and rice. Chips and salsa were brought out first. Both the chimi and the burrito were smaller than some places but were stuffed with meat...just meat. I added some of the salsa for some flavor. They are not a large place, but could handle a large group. There was only one guy that I saw doing everything but he did a good job of keeping up with both take out and the few dine in people. This sucks. We used to come here on a somewhat regular basis and it has really gone downhill. I don't know if ownership has changed or what. So we had a bogo coupon and we decided to get 2 burritos and an order of guacamole to go. My so called shredded beef burrito was $11.99 instead of the advertised $8.99 ...Okay. Pandemic and all. Price increases. I get it ... but for $11.99 I would expect to actually get some meat in my $11.99 burrito. What I got was about 2-3 ounces of nasty ,fatty roast chunks that had no flavor. Even with the two leaves (bay leaf ??) in my burrito it had zero flavor. Just blah. I expect more than blah for $11.99 The guacamole was half the size it used to be. Literally..4 oz instead of 8 oz. Same price though ...Okay. Pandemic ,etc ,etc. but guacamole should be more than an avocado and two pinches of cilantro. No lime juice. No red onion. Again no taste. We will not be back ... coupon or not If you want some decent Mexican with actual taste , go to salsa fresh in morrisville or maybe a chipotle.. because tacos Mexico is no good anymore. WOW, impressive great service and food. Greeted upon entering, seated promptly, ordered beverages, and before I could take off my jacket ... complimentary chips 'n salsa. Fantastic! Chips were warm and fresh.... awesome! Our food arrived quickly. Look at these pictures .... everything was fresh & delicious and we will be back for more!!!! I could barely finish the chicken salad my lunch was spot on and satisfied my hunger. I will try to save room for dessert next time! We've only had delivery, but the food is so good! It always arrives hot and delicious. I always get the quesadilla especial - shrimp, mushrooms and spinach. It's normally a little soggy, but that's understandable considering the ingredients. Still delicious! My husband always gets the shrimp fajitas, and always comments on how generous they are with the shrimp portion. California where we had great Mexican restaurants all over, my experience in the #Triangle has been hit or miss - Tacos Mexico is a definite "hit"! Used to be my favorite Mexican restaurant. Not any more. The food today (1/25/22) was bland, but still ok. HOWEVER, one worker, presumably the owner, came out and sat near the door watching something on his computer. His volume was so loud that I couldn't hear the TV I was facing that was only a couple booths away. When the check came, we were charged for water - something we were never charged for before. There was also a surcharge on the check. When I asked what for, I was told it was for my credit card. The check was prepared before they knew I was using a card. In summary, there are plenty of Mexican places around. Pick a different one! read more

Holy guacamole! This place is awesome! Let me break it down for you - Authentic, well prepared, fresh food. While the service can vary (if they are busy it's a little slow, if it's slow then the service is amazing) the servers are always friendly. Inexpensive. Very inexpensive. $5-10 per person. Complementary bottomless chips and salsa. Chips are warm, salsa is OK. The pork tacos are my favorite. The meat is always spiced perfectly. The outside looks a little dumpy but the inside is always clean. Just get past the outside and you'll have a great meal! read more

This has been our local fix for Mexican food for several years. Tacos Mexico has a comfortable atmosphere, a helpful wait staff and a comprehensive menu. They specialize in fantastic, fresh and authentic food. I've been through several phases where I repeatedly order the same dish starting with the Bistec en Salsa Verde moving to the Sopes and now on the Chilaquiles (verde with chicken). My wife does the same having gone from the Enchiladas Verde to the Chilaquiles (verde with egg). Those are some of their best dishes. If you go with one of the more generic combo plates, I'm not sure they're truly able to show their stuff but if you go with something a little more authentic, they really shine. This little place looks like a dump from the outside, but inside you're pleasantly surprised by the brightly painted maize-yellow walls with floral plates providing nice tropical green accents. Service is very quick and the food is of good quality. Naturally I stuck with my traditional taco salad because I'm boring, but forgot to ask for it sans beans...c'est la vie! I was pleasantly surprised that their beef for their taco salad was fajita beef mixed with peppers, which was delicious and slightly less greasy than regular ground beef would've been. My husband and I went here on Cinco de Mayo. We both had a margarita. They were the same (original, on the rocks), but his was noticeably stronger for some reason. But they were cheap so that was good (maybe they were on special that day). My husband ordered carne asada. His dish was good. Nice and flavorful. My dish on the other hand, was not good. I ordered a beef taco salad. I thought it would be ground beef, but it was shredded. It was so soggy! It lacked flavor/seasoning. I also order a soft chicken taco (flour tortilla). First visit tonight, and my wife and I both found the food and the welcoming staff to be excellent. The shrimp in the fajitas were fresh, and perfectly cooked. Very limited oil, no artificial spice - quite good. A vegetarian combo was balanced and flavorful, not heavy. The sense is that the people who cook the food truly care about the nuances. This has to be the worst Mexican food I've had in the area ever - well, if not the worst, then REALLY close... and I frequent Mexican restaurants and like to try new ones. For some reason, every time I go by Yelp ratings regarding Mexican food, I'm disappointed... No idea why. My cheese dip was chunky (not fully melted, barely warm) and didn't really taste like cheese/cheese dip - no real flavor except jalapeno juice for spice. The rice... Another one of those places that has what looks like to me to be Mexican-Fried Rice... It had a good consistency, but not flavor. Is it just dye that gives it it's yellowish-orange color? I don't mind the peas and carrots in it, it just always strikes me as odd when I've seen it (and other things in it), and every time I've seen that, it's been horrible and flavorless rice. If it just had a good flavor it would be great, since it's the perfect consistency. My order was wrong. I ordered a side of rice, because my combo was supposed to come with beans and I wanted a bit of both. My combo was given to me with rice, plus my side order of rice. Response? I could order and pay for a side of beans if I wanted to, despite the difference from what the menu stated and what I received. This is another place that if you want Chips and Salsa with your to-go order, you have to pay extra for it. There are much better places that include that for free with your order. My Chimichanga's were piled high with all kinds of stuff I am used to seeing on the side and being able to decide how much of each I want (of the "Mexican Salad"). I don't care for my food to be drenched in guac... a little yes, not tons of it. Also, no sour cream, however the pile of guac, lettuce and the single tiny tomato slice that was on top of my food, was then covered with cheese... and not the other way around? I'm sure this is a personal preference thing, but I've never seen it done this way and again, I prefer to be able to apply the amt of stuff I want, myself. And I wasn't going back for an order of beans ... considering the rest of my food... but I generally like some beans on/with my food. I wanted this to be good. It's not the worst I've ever had, but sadly it's really close. Next time I want Mexican fair, I will go back to the Cary Los Tres Location where my food is always great. :-( I feel like I just wasted a bunch of money on food that is edible - sure, but bland, and not appetizing, not to mention the mistake with the rice/bean side, that apparently despite what the menu states, was my issue for not knowing they weren't going to go by the menu? This place came highly recommend to me. It was a pleasant experience all around but there was one major flaw that will keep me from going back. I order a taco whenever I eat at a Mexican restaurant. This USED to be my favorite Mexican restaurant. Yes, it's a bit of a sh*t hole, but the food and service has always been amazing. Until yesterday. There was some confusion about my order, and I guess I really made the server angry. I asked for #8, (enchiladas and a chimichanga combo)but was brought out a taco salad (#8 on the lunch menu.) The server was visibly very perturbed and told me should have specified combo, and that it was a problem. I apologized and specified that I wanted the dinner combo. I could tell that she was really mad about this. Five minutes later, my server came out happy as could be with the correct order. I wasn't really hungry at that point, and took the meal home. Later that evening, I warmed my food up. I couldn't eat it though. That's because the following items were in my food: A tree leaf A large chicken bone And a tree twig. At first I thought it was just a bay leaf or something. But after finding those three items in my food, I trashed the whole thing. I have eaten here several times, and never had an issue.
