Pistachio vanilla cupcake
Susan H.

This is a cute cafe specializing in cakes and cupcakes. The staff was friendly and I was served promptly. The cafe was very cute and would be great to hang out with a friend. I bought the Pistachio cupcake. The taste was good and flavourful, however I prefer slightly less icing on my cupcakes. Overall, this appears to be pretty affordable for a cake shops and I would be open to trying their mid size cakes in the future.

Cute spot for dessert and coffee. Great service. Got my dad's birthday cake here: vanilla pistachio. It was delicious. Not too sweet and you really got the pistachio flavour. A bit pricey but worth supporting a local business rather than get a grocery store cake.

Ordered this beautiful cake from velvet lane for my friends birthday. It was vanilla & strawberry cream cheese & she absolutely loved it. Not too sweet! They also have the cutest cupcakes & so many flavour options

If you like cute and girly cakes that is sweet and moist, Velvet Lane Cakes is the place to go! For my birthday this year my boyfriend surprised me with a cake and it is the most beautiful cake I have ever seen. It was a small sized letter "M" vanilla cake decorated with golden chocolate, real flowers and macarons. I can't wait to order more birthday cakes from them.

My phone was dead and I needed coffee, so I went here. It was nice, the food was cute, the coffee was ok. I wouldn't say there is any reason not to go here. I think I would want to try more of their food in te future. They seemed pretty fine. Nothing I would write home about.

I was invited to try Velvet Lane Cakes as part of a Yelp Elite Perk. We were offered a a pair of cupcakes (red velvet and vanilla). I ordered a second pair of cupcakes for a friend. Their location is on Carlton, just east of Sherbourne. I used to live in this neighbourhood, and loved being back. The store front is in an old house and is very cute. Due to Covid you have to ring the bell and wait for someone to come with your order. They placed it on a chair outside. The employee explained that they use a lot of butter in their buttercream. So if I wanted to put the cupcakes in the fridge for later, I should let them sit out for a bit to let the butter soften. I assured her that I would be eating these shortly, so no need! lol The cake was a a bit more dense than cupcakes that I've had recently. I don't say that as a bad thing as they were still delicious, but a bit more hearty as opposed to light and fluffy. The flavour was perfectly sweet. My favourite was the burnt caramel frosting on the vanilla cupcake. They were beautifully packaged and decorated. They do custom cakes as well. So think about them the next time you need a cake for a special occasion, or a Saturday night...haha

This place makes magic, yes! Because usually foods are either too pretty or too tasty. For me it's never a blast for both together. But the cupcakes that I tried from Velvet Lane is just amaaaaaaazing! The sponge is very soft, tasty but not overly sweet, then it comes the topping in the same way but with a bit more sugar to balance it out. All the colours, decoration and sprinkles gives a cute and sophisticated finishing. Thank you Yelp Elite and you guys, for partnering and giving us the opportunity to get to know such an amazing business. Lovely! I will definitely come back and try another flavours and items too!

I was able to try Velvet Lane Cakes with the Elite perk offered this month and I'm glad I did! First impression, the space was located in a quaint house style storefront in Cabbagetown. I couldn't see inside but judging from the outside, they focus on the clean elegant details which was exemplified by their cupcakes as well. They are open for pickup only due to lockdown but they were very quick and attentive. The staff member who brought me my order was very kind and explained that the cupcakes were best eaten room temperature as their icing was buttercream with lots of butter. The first thing I noticed was how pretty the cupcakes were. Gold wrappers and beautiful gold decorations on top of the carefully designed icing, it's very inviting to the eyes. First bite was of the red velvet and all I can say is wow, very good chocolate flavour! I did enjoy how smooth the buttercream was. As a fan of chocolate and buttercream, this was the best part. The cake itself was a little more dense and dry than I expected but had lots of flavour as well. For the salted caramel vanilla cupcake, I got an instant hit of the caramel and that was super delicious. The cake itself was a little lighter and moist than the chocolate. What I liked was that they were both not too sweet and were beautifully created. If you ever want to treat yourself or someone else, I'd definitely say these cupcakes are definitely worth trying. They also create beautiful cakes for any occasion.

Velvet Lane Cakes is a small cake shop located at Ontario and Carlton in Cabbagetown. They specialize in cakes of course as well as cupcakes, both which can be customized based on their customer's specifications. Due to the pandemic, they only have takeout where you have to preorder ahead of time on their website in order to pick up your goodies on a certain day/time. When you show up, all you need to do is ring the doorbell and staff will be there to greet you. I was able to try Velvet Lane Cakes due to a special Yelp Elite perk event. Velvet Lane Cakes had partnered with Yelp Toronto to celebrate Womxn's History Month in March in support of local woman-owned businesses in the city! I got 2 cupcakes - salted caramel and red velvet. Both were decorated beautifully and looked delicious that I wanted to eat them right then and there. Onto the cupcakes, the salted caramel was a delight. Not overly sweet but just the perfect amount. The salted caramel flavour was present throughout and the cupcake was moist and not dry at all. The red velvet also was moist and had a delicious chocolate buttercream on top. Overall, delicious cupcakes! Would definitely be interested in ordering from them for a special event in the future (their cakes look pretty amazing!). Hope to also try their other offerings when dine in is available as well. In the meantime, do check out their offerings online to preorder!

Velvet Lane Cakes is an adorable storefront bakery in Toronto's Corktown neighbourhood. Although the shop was closed for walk-ins due to the pandemic, I was able to place an order online for pickup. The shop's point of sale system made it easy to view the yummy treats and place an order with an assigned pick up time. And, the pickup process was seamless. I ordered some salted caramel and red velvet cupcakes, both of which were decorated impeccably and tasted like cupcakes should! The buttercream frosting tasted as good as it looked and complemented the cake. If you're searching for a bakery that's in the downtown vicinity, I recommend checking out Velvet Lane Cakes. Whether you need some cupcakes for a birthday party, or perhaps a larger celebration cake, this shop has you covered.

Two gorgeous cupcakes

I got to try two cupcakes from Velvet Lane today and wow were they beautiful! I had the vanilla and caramel (that was my favourite for sure. I loved the gold decorations and the caramel was really yummy) and the Red velvet with chocolate buttercream cupcake. If you're looking for something foreground go here for sure. Personally, I'm not a butter cream lover so I didn't love the icing but if that's your thing it's very creamy and smooth. The cupcakes itself was a little dry but again, they are beautiful. They also have gorgeous, mind blowing cakes. They can make a cake look like any theme you want. So impressive!

Earlier this week I decided to take advantage of an Elite Yelp Perk I received for 2 cupcakes from Velvet Lane Cakes. I arranged for contactless pickup of my order for 2 pm and when I arrived my cupcakes (red velvet and salted caramel) were ready. I've had them both and they were quite good; quite flavourable - especially the salted caramel, which I liked more - and I could tell from their appearance/presentation that quite a bit of care goes into the making of their cupcakes. Of course due to the situation with COVID I couldn't go inside the venue but I checked their website beforehand and their interior looks quite elegant and inviting. I definitely recommend stopping in if you happen to live in or visit the Cabbagetown area.

Yelp collaborated with this fabulous business to celebrate International Woman's Day/month. What better way to show your support for that day then to eat delicious cupcakes! The bakery which is located in Cabbagetown was located on a main road and was easy to located. Due to covid-19 protocols I didn't get to go in the store. I called ahead and they said to just ring the doorbell when I got there. I rang the doorbell and it was promptly answered by a very friendly person who was following the proper covid protocols. He took my name and asked me to wait a few moments while he got my order. It smelled amazing every time they opened the door! While I was waiting (which was a very quick minute or two) I looked in the window and spotted fabulous cakes along the wall. The guy quickly returned, handed me my order and told me to enjoy and that he hopes to see me back again soon! The cupcakes themselves were delicious! I'm normally not a fan of red velvet cupcakes but I appreciate how light and fluffy these were. They top portion was full of flavor while the cupcake portion was light and fluffy. The caramel cupcake was my favorite of the two. The base cupcake was light and basic in flavor which paired wonderfully with the caramel on the top, they definitely balanced each other out! I would definitely order both of these cupcakes again, but especially the caramel one!

Drinks I tried: Maple Goguma Latte - Slightly nutty, lightly sweet, and super comforting. I added a shot of espresso, which made it perfectly balanced and not too sweet. Dalgona Latte - A really fun drink with great texture. Just make sure to stir it well since the sweetness settles at the bottom. They're known for their creative, seasonal drink menu, and I'm already excited to come back to try what they release next season. Definitely a must-visit if you love cozy cafés, unique drinks, and supporting local artists.

Opted for their new seasonal mango sticky rice matcha latte which was really good and loved the bits of sticky rice in my drink. But it was on the sweeter side of things. Would've been perfect if they scaled back on the sugar content. Overall, delicious drinks with a rotating seasonal menu. Worth checking out, especially their new space is great for enjoying your cup of caffeine.

It was also huge, and I had to take half of it home with me. The focaccia bread is excellent, and serves as a sort of bowl for this deconstructed kebab. My husband had his usual Cobb Salad, which he thinks is particularly well done at Landwer's. Our other dining companion had schnitzel, which came with some angel hair pasta. He enjoyed it very much.
