There are also lots of other interesting things in the store as well. Though I wouldn't shop here if it weren't for the supplies I need as a Chinese medicine student. They also won't sell needles to the general public, which I like. You can, however, buy whatever herbs you like, but you should always have either Chinese medicine training or have a prescription from someone who does, because otherwise you won't know what you're doing. You can't just pick an herbal formula labeled simply for "stress" like you can in Western medicine. It doesn't work like that. I've never received any treatments from interns so I can't vouch for that, but I hear they're awesome. Their staff is very friendly and know me and my friends by name because we frequent there so much. :o) Plus! Every day they have a deal going on. I know Monday their herbs are 10-15% off, but I can't remember what the other days are.

This is an odd place. The service is sometimes snotty, sometimes good. But it's a really good place…read moreto browse for Buddha-ish accoutrements for your decor or altar if your a meditator. I got some really cool stone carved elephants on the cheap, and a neat wood happy Buddha. They have some good flavors of Dagoba bars that I can't find elsewhere (chai) and sometimes some cool zenish clothes. I also like the one on Anderson for post Korea-house sushi shopping. I know they have all kinds of herbal medicine but I have not delved as of yet.

I TRIED to attend a class at Mangia's pizza on Sunday. Since there were only 2 of us there, class didn't go on. Luckily I have another month to take a class, unlike the other woman who showed up. She was very upset, as she had called earlier in the week and was told that this class would be happening. When said class didn't occur, she was understandably very upset since her court date was the next day. In a nutshell, don't go expecting to take the class. Class enrollment for this place is very low, and whether or not the class goes on is contingent upon the number of students that show up. Too bad, I would have liked having Mangia's for lunch.

Win, Lose, Win!! Well, let me set this up for you..... I…read morenever win anything! But, on this beautiful fall afternoon I finally won something! You see, I was driving by myself, radio thumpin, and windows down in my teenager taxi, AKA swagger wagon (mini van.) I looked over at the driver to my right, while idling at the red light. The young man in the sports car beside me, looked at the red light, then back at me, and gave an ever so gentle nod with his head, which everyone knows is the universal signal for "Let's do this"! So when the light turned green I hit the gas..... I felt so free and young, dong 48 MPH in a 45 speed limit! Wow, what a rush of adrenaline! As I approached the next intersection the light was red and he was clearly seconds behind me! We made eye contact again, he nods, the light turns green and we're off!! I'm in the lead again, we're both side by side inching our way closer to the next intersection. I'm pushing 52 MPH and he's gaining on me, so I put the petal to the metal and hit 55 MPH! Yay, I'm in the lead..... I'm winning the race.... and then..... I see the Big black and white Austin Police Suburban turn his lights on and pull behind me! What an immediate FUN-KILL! I lost! (doing 55 MPH in a 45) Now, it's time to face real-life consequences for my joy ride, (speeding down Manchaca rd.) Nothing about this is fun! I paid the courts an arm and a leg to allow me permission to take defensive driving class of my choice, UGH! Then, there's having to squeeze the course into one of my busy hectic weeks (who has time for this stuff, anyway?) AND.... by the way, there's multiple defensive driving school choices, 6 hours can be really long, or fly by. I could have taken an online class at home, but really how much fun would that have been? My children would have interrupted me every 5 seconds guaranteed: mom, ma, mom, maa-aaa, maa-aa-am, mom, mom, mom, maaaa.... imagine a bunch of goats, you get the picture! I'm a Winner again! I found Terry Lee's, Wide Awake Defensive Driving School on the internet. He sold me on the FREE Mr. Gattis pizza buffet on your second night of class! I thought to myself, I'll be away from home for 2 nights, surrounded by other pizza-loving, fast-driving adults, information I obviously need, and best of all....no goat sounding children to bother me! Choosing Wide Awake was the BEST adult decision I've made in a while! Terry Lee is a great facilitator! He comes dressed in these adorable suspenders, he has a unique belly laugh (the best), and a genuine passion to give information to keep people safe! Terry Lee has so much information to give there's barely enough time to present it, but he does and before you know it, it's time to go back home! Listen, you eat pizza, you watch a couple of videos, listen, discuss, and take a test! Easy Peasy! I also received my certificate in 2 days, which was great considering I procrastinated until the last possible week, I don't recommend this! Terry Lee also gives you FREE Capital City Comedy Club tickets as a complimentary gift for completing his course. (That's going to be my next Super Cool Date night with my husband.... Thanks, Terry Lee!) *But, I do have to add...... I was downtown not too long ago after my class with Terry Lee and happened to run into him, you guys are not going to believe this.... his adorable signature fashion statement (suspenders) is not a costume he wears as part of his comedy act....oh no, he's devoted in a good way people! First, I hear his laugh (which is real too) it makes me turn in his direction, then I see his outfit and know it's him! I shake his hand re-introducing myself to remind him I took his class recently. He remembered me and we politely exchanged some chit-chat! I love this guy even more now! Take his class, you won't be sorry!

I was qualified for student loans and grants, all of which meant nothing after graduation... I worked extremely hard earning a 3.96 g.p.a and finished with "Honors." My family was proud. I was proud. All of my hard work earned me high praise. Suspiciously, at graduation at a local hotel conference room we were provided caps, gowns and tassels with our graduation year on them. Upon hearing my name called to walk on stage I was handed a rolled up piece of paper with a ribbon around it in a bow. "The paper was BLANK!" I never did receive a diploma until I had to call and ask so that a potential job opportunity opened up. Please keep in mind I am male. The recruiter at their office went on and on about males becoming a dominant part of this type of industry. WRONG. I'm a very clinical based person. I like getting my hands dirty. After graduation I learned very quickly that females ran the show and if I wanted a position it would be clerical... After a year or so, pay was not that much different. People at fast food chains earned ** DOLLAR(S) ** an hour more than I could. To do what I was interested in doing in the medical field I began my local county EMS EMT-B Program. In less time to graduate and test out for my certification I could of repeated my MA course 2-3 times over. My first interview as an EMT at a near-by Emergency Department as an EMT designation, which was titled Critical Care Technician I was hired. I got to finally do what I was great at. Granted, there was some clerical duties all the CCT's had to do but for the most part I got hands on emergency patient care. My position as a CCT was vital under the nurses oversight. I was finally happy but still under paid to a small point. 90% of my "technical school" credits were not transferable to standard colleges nor university. I WANT MY TECHNICAL MONEY BACK!!! Though, I know it will never happen or occur, especially since the school went out of business. If only I had done more research I later discovered that with slight, slightly more tuition and time I could of received an Associate if Science as an LVN it RN... My pay rate would of tripled if not quadrupled from the point of being hired to a 5 year mark! What a shame and disgust I felt later on due to being "Lured In" by this technical school. The school had a saying that Medical Assisting was becoming a "MALE" dominated field and that I would not have a problem finding employment as a clinical medical assistant making a nice living wage. This was a straight up lie told to me face to face by a recruiter. People looking for a higher education at a private school if you can not afford state college or university, PLEASE research much, much more than I did! I was still paying off my Frderal Loans for several years after graduating. I would of been better off at a community college (which only offered Associate Degrees) at that time. NOW LOCAL COMMUNITY COLLEGES OFFER BACHELOR DEGREES IN CERTAIN FIELDS LIKE NURSING... Signed, - Disappointed-
